Pegas Talia
Name: Pegas Talia
Age: 23 Race: Hylian Sex: Male Hair: Brown, long (down to his shoulder blades) Eyes: Blue Weight: 150 lbs. Height: 5’9” Weapon: None, but can create energy weapons using PEM (Positive Energy Manipulation) Armor: None Strengths: Pegas is very intelligent and faithful. His skill with divine magic is very high, and he is a powerful healer. Dark/Negative energy has little effect on him, due to his positive energy aura. Weakness: Pegas’ physical build is quite small, due to extensive holy studies. As such, he is not very physically strong, offensively or defensively. His robe also makes him fairly slow, due to its shape and material. In addition, since his only weapons use PEM, he cannot deal damage to any living creature without punching or kicking said creature. Skills/Magic: PEM (Positive Energy Manipulation): Pegas has the ability to create a weapon using positive energy. This weapon will heal any living creature, block attacks, and deal damage to any undead creature (Gibdos, Stalfos, Poes, etc). This weapon can be any variety of items, and whichever weapon he chooses acts like a weapon of the same design made of metal or wood (for example, having a PEM claymore would be just as heavy as a regular claymore). He favors the boomerang because of its range. Healing: Pegas is a prominent healer besides, and uses the power given to him from Farore to heal his comrades from illness and injuries. Farore's Wind: A staple for all devoted to Farore, this allows Pegas to warp to a recently visited area. Appearance: http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/903/pegasyc0.png Pegas appears as an average Hylian. He has a long-sleeved white robe that goes down to his ankles with a green belt. He also wears white boots and leggings underneath his robe. This is all accented by a green cape with a white symbol of Farore. Personality: Pegas is a very optimistic individual, always giving people the benefit of the doubt. If something’s going badly, it’s only temporary and will soon pass. Pegas does not like fighting, and would rather talk to sort things out, but knows that battles happen at times. He will fight for what he believes is right for the common good. He believes in the three Goddesses, and prays to them every night for strength. His patron deity is Farore, and he is a proud member of the Church of Farore. During times of rest, he enjoys playing his lyre and singing songs about life, love, and (of course) Farore. Biography: Pegas briskly walked towards his next class. He had just finished his first day of Hylian Lore and was now on his way to his third class. He looked at his schedule: First Hour: Healing 300 Second Hour: Hylian Lore Third Hour: Combat & Defense Fourth Hour: Music Fifth Hour: Prayer Session Sixth Hour: Prayer Session Seventh Hour: Seminar Observation He stopped. Combat & Defense? Why would any cleric of Farore need to battle? That was usually left to Din and Nayru. He never did like fighting - he had fought a friend once when they were young, and his friend had almost perished. Pegas didn't know how to heal him, and from then on decided to devote himself to Farore and helping the sick and injured. But now he was faced with a dilemma - the Farorian Church was making him learn how to fight with weapons. He continued to his class, though much less briskly. "Maybe this won't be as bad as I had thought," he told himself as he walked through the doors. "Alright, kids - go grab a weapon." The instructor was a muscular Hylian, larger than any of the students (who were all around the age of 20). He had long, dark hair, and penetrating green eyes. He looked as though he had never laughed in his life. "My name is Marak, and I'm going to teach you kids how to fight." Pegas disliked him instantly - why did he insist on calling them kids? Marak couldn't be that much older than them. The students went over to a weapon rack with a short sword for each of them. Each student picked one up and went to the middle of the field to try them out. Pegas walked to the rack and picked up a sword. He looked at it carefully. It gleamed in the sunlight, but all Pegas could think of was that this weapon would be used to harm others, and would likely not shine again. He put it back, disgusted at the idea of swordplay. "Hey, are you coming or not?" It was Marak. Pegas looked at him and said "Why do we have to learn about this? That's what the Din and Nayru clerics do - go out and fight or protect cities. We're supposed to heal and save people." "That may have been the case in the past, kid, but nowadays, everybody has to fight. There's no getting out of it. Dark times are upon us. Now get a sword and join your classmates." "I... I'd rather not, sir." Marak looked at him disapprovedly. "If you do not learn to fight, you will not survive. You will be of no use to anybody if you cannot defend yourself." "What if I can heal the other combatants?" Pegas was determined to stick to his ideas about fighting. "Just get a sword, kid! I don't have time for this crap!" Marak was looking even more annoyed. "That's enough, Marak." It was the Healing Professor, Routian. "We cannot train all of our clerics to be Paladins or Templars." "Do you really think that this kid isn't going to see any battles? Without a weapon to defend himself, he's going to be shot in the head by some archer or backstabbed by a soldier." Routian thought for a moment. "Let me handle it, Marak. I can teach him a way to defend himself that may be more... suitable for him." Marak stared at him, then turned, grumbling. Routian put his hand on Pegas' shoulder and said, "Don't worry about him. Come. I will teach you something that saved my life - and that of many others." -------------------------------- They went to his classroom, where Routian took a book off of his shelf, opened it up to a page, and gave it to Pegas. "'Positive Energy Manipulation'?" Pegas asked. "PEM for short. It's an art that allows you to shape your healing magic into powerful weapons..." "I thought we weren't going to use weapons, sir." "...Weapons of HEALING." "...Huh?" Pegas was more confused than ever. How could a weapon be used to heal... anything? "Let me show you." Routian closed his eyes. A pale green glow surrounded him, and a large, white, glowing pole slowly grew in his right hand. The glow around him stopped, but the object in his hand, which had curved into what looked like a blade, stayed. "This," he said, holding the pole above him, "is a PEM Sword." Pegas looked at him, fairly shocked at his professor's ability to create weapons out of thin air. Routian must have seen this, and told him, "Close your eyes and picture a weapon - any weapon." Since the last weapon he saw was a short sword, he pictured that. "Got it?" Routian asked. Pegas nodded. "Good. Now, imagine yourself holding it." Pegas did so. He imagined it so vividly, that he could feel it in his hand. "Ah, very nice. Now open your eyes. Pegas did so. In his right hand was the short sword he imagined, only white and glowing, like Routian's blade. "Wha... how...?" "It's a fairly common ability that can only be used by Farorian Clerics with enough healing power. Most clerics don't use them because they have steel and wooden weapons to defend themselves and heal using their hands, but for you, this may be the best option." He looked at him. "Now, stab me." "What?!" "Stab me. Absolutely serious. You know that I can heal myself if you injure me." Pegas was shaking. Sure, Routian could heal himself without any problem, but he was still asking Pegas to stab him. "I... I..." "If you don't, I'll stab myself in the head with my own weapon." "AH!" Pegas stopped thinking and ran towards Routian, stabbing him in the arm so as not to cause any fatal injury. Routian winced for a moment, then relaxed. "Okay, take it out now." Pegas withdrew his sword. There was no scrape on his clothes. No blood either. "You just healed me. Or you would have, if I had had a cut there. I really have one here." He pointed to his right leg. Sure enough, there was a wound there. "I want you to stick your sword in there." Pegas trusted Routian now. He stuck his sword in the wound. Again, Routian winced, then relaxed. "Good." Pegas took out the sword. The wound had closed up, good as new! "You're doing very well." Routian congratulated him. "Wait - I'm confused." "You want to know how it works?" "No... somehow I understand that... I'm wondering why we're using weapons instead of just our hands." "Two reasons." Routian made his blade disappear as he walked around the room. "First, you can make a bow or a boomerang and create a long-range healing instrument, greatly increasing the amount that you can help your comrades - assuming you have good enough aim. Secondly..." he picked up a different blade - a real, steel one. "...for this." He swung the blade at Pegas. Pegas quickly raised his short sword in what seemed like a futile attempt to block the blade. Surprisingly, it worked. "Oh... I see now..." "Your PEM weapon will work like a real weapon of similar design," Routian told him. "You can block weapons, throw your weapon, shoot your weapon, and fence with your weapon as if you had the steel or wooden equivilent. However, you cannot harm any living creature with these weapons - you can only heal them. The undead are a different story - they are pure dark energy, so your weapons will obliterate them, often upon contact." Pegas stood in awe of his newfound ability. He closed his eyes and extended the blade. This not only made it longer, but also heavier, and he had to hold it with two hands in order to stop it from crashing into the ground. "You are learning quickly. You can also make the weapon disappear with just a thought." He was right - the weapon was gone the moment Pegas thought about discarding it. "With this ability, you can continue with the Combat & Defense class so that you can pass it. Marak is familiar with the ability, but, like most Farorians, does not endorse it." Routian looked at the clock. "It's time for your next class. From now on, go to Marak's class and participate. You'll still be able to spar and do target practice with PEM, so you won't be left out of anything. However, you will have to have private sessions with me after your classes are done to help you hone your skills." "Yes, sir. Thank you, sir!" Pegas was overjoyed, and ran off to his next class. -------------------------------- Many years later, Pegas had passed the clerical exam for the Farorian Church and was sent on a pilgrimmage to other lands to spread the word of Farore and help those in need. He had greatly increased his PEM abilities, even surpassing Routian. However, Routian told him that in order to really become a master, he had to put his skills to practice. Pegas walked towards the Aphitheatre, eager to prove his worth. If there's anything else you need to know, or would like clarification on, let me know.
