Cody (and his companion Jamba)

There was a big issue with Jamba in that everyone I approached for a battle had the same answer – that their character refused to duel a small cat, or had far too much of a difference in power to even consider a battle. Jamba makes a good RP character, but a bad solo BA character. So, after some feedback from Zorolo, I’ve decided to retcon the character a bit and make him a pet/traveling companion to my new character, Cody.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Cody Davies

Age: 29

Race: Human. No, really. I’m telling the truth. Not half-elven or anything.

Sex: Male

Hair: Brown

Eyes: Blue

Weight: 80kg. Not sure what that is in your crazy non-metric American weights.

Height: 5’11”. I think that’s the order the apostrophes go anyway, your American nonmetricities still confuse me.

Weapon: Cody has two short swords, with which he is fairly proficient. They aren’t “magical weapons called Bob and Larry” or anything like that, just normal swords. Swordy swords. A sword doesn’t need a cool name. Unless it talks back to you, in which case you should be in a mental institution anyway. The swords are light yet strong, and will not break easily. I mean, if you create some kind of magical sword-breaking genie that is skilled in breaking swords, sure, they’re probably going to break, but they’re not just going to mystically break in the middle of a swordfight because you’ve decided you want to cut off Cody’s head. He has no ranged weapons, but makes up for them with his ranged magical abilities.

Armor: Cody’s armor is light, because he likes to use his speed. He also has a magical defensive aura that he emits subconsciously that will deflect minor magickery spellcasting directed at him, such as a mind probe or an illusion.

Strengths: Cody is ambidextrous, so he can wield weapons/write etc equally well with either hand. His strengths are speed, dexterity and accuracy. He is moderately strong physically, with the power of any other fit young adult male, but not enough for it to be considered a strength. Pun unintended. His skill at magic is another of his strong points.

Weaknesses: Cody has no ranged weapons, and if he is for some reason unable to use magic, such as the aforementioned magical genie with magical powers stealing all his magics, or just too many spells having been cast already that day, he is unable to use or stop ranged attacks, leaving him wide open. He also has a bit of an ego problem, and may be swayed more easily then most by a skilled smooth-talker.

Skills/Magic: Cody is good at cooking. This is probably completely useless in terms of fighting, but when your character guy is sitting there starving and/or eating raw fish, mine is going to be sitting there smugly with well-prepared, tasty food. <:

Cody is also skilled with both some offensive and defensive magic. His magic isn’t strong enough to overpower one of those accursed magical genies that seem to keep popping up, but as with his physical prowess, his skill lies in the speed and accuracy of his attacks. He is a speedy caster, and can construct a magical protection barrier or fire a counter fireball very quickly, without any chanting or downtime. He can do many different useful things with his magic, but he doesn’t name them and call them out while casting them, because that’s a stupid thing for real people to do. He is stronger in some aspects of his magic than others, however.

Fire: Fire magic is meant to cause damage, and Cody is extremely skilled at this particular aspect. He can do things such as a simple fireball, or can rain fire down on his enemies.

Earth: Earth magic is control over the environment. Cody can make the land rise or cause roots to grow extremely quickly to trap someone, or other things like that.

Air: Air magic is based on protection. Cody can create a magical barrier to shield himself (or others) from attacks, and can also turn himself invisible, though this requires all of his concentration and it will break if he tries to use a second spell while this one is active.

Water: Water magic is the art of healing. He has basic knowledge of healing magic, and can deal with simple cuts and bruises. If your guy is some crazy super-villain that escaped from a Superman comic, no, Cody can’t counter the deadly Krypto-virus thing. But if someone cuts him, he can heal it.

His specialty is in multi-tasking spells, and he can combine spells by casting them at the same time, or just cast them in quick succession.

Appearance: Cody is, as you may have guessed from the first six or so sections, a brown-haired, blue eyed 29 year old male human. His clothes/armor are generally a reasonable shade of brown/grey/dark green, something that would blend in to a forest or just not make you stand out in a busy street. Because if you go around fighting people it’s a bit stupid to run around in fluorescent/bright clothes, attracting everyone’s attention. Yes I mean you, fancy British soldier guys with the funny hats that I saw on Mr. Bean.

Here. I drew him in Paint. I daresay it's a masterpiece.

Personality: Cody is generally a friendly person, who will greet people politely. However, that does not mean that he is not wary of them, and has trouble truly trusting people. He’s generally honest, but if need be he will lie to prevent someone from being hurt or any other reasonable reason. He is fairly intelligent, and in a battle will remain calm and think strategy, rather than rushing into things or going berserk.

Biography: Throughout the world of Veslia, a great war has raged for decades. The forces of the democratic VUFA (Veslian United Freedom Army) have been fighting against the cruel and ruthless CATS army, whose leader is enshrouded in mystery. Nobody knows what CATS stands for, either, except the mysterious leader, who rules from the shadows and has not yet shown his face to the world. The two sides are equal in terms of land and army, and the war ever-rages. Into this world, Cody was born.

Cody Davies was born in the town of Torlitia (pronounced Tor-lish-a), the eldest of three children. His sister, Jenna, was born the year after him and the youngest brother, Richard, was born another two years after her. Torlitia had been long taken by the CATS from before the time of Cody’s birth, so the Davies trio grew up in a hostile environment, with the CATS government taking most of what they made for the war effort. They grew up, learning to fight the rough way because of the abundance of crime and corruption, never able to take an unwary glance at the outside world in fear of losing what little they had. But one day, when Cody was 17, his parents and sister died of disease, unable to afford a cure. After this, Cody and Richard decided that it was time to leave this life of poverty, and planned to sneak across the border to VUFA territory.

Escaping was an easier task than they had first imagined. Most residents stayed in Torlitia simply because it was their home and there was nowhere else for them to go, or because they had family in the city, or for other similar reasons, so the guards weren’t all that tight on security around the perimeter. The brothers got past the barrier by navigating the large network of sewer systems, and eventually emerged on the other side of the barrier that separated CATS territory from VUFA territory.

After much traveling, the brothers reached Lanarath, a major VUFA city. There, they joined the army and were taught how to handle weapons properly. Richard was found to have an excellent strategic mind and after several years of tactical training, was elevated to a high rank in the military. Cody, on the other hand, was found to have strong magical potential, and was recruited into the ranks of the elite group known as the battle mages. Ten years passed and both of them made names for themselves, leading troops into battle and winning tactical victories. Unfortunately, this time could not last, and a terrible tragedy befell VUFA. The CATS army blazed through VUFA territory, defeating armies like butter and taking over their capital, Nebelti. Rumors abounded of a powerful new weapon that the CATS had manufactured, but though all the rumors agreed on

With their capital fallen and their leader captured or dead, the leftover VUFA forces panicked. The citizens of Lanarath fled every which way, hoping to escape before the powerful CATS army came for them. Even the military fell to pieces, many of them escaping with the civilians. Richard led a small squad of the remaining soldier, including Cody and several of his fellow battle mages, with the goal of doing what they could to stop or annoy the CATS with a guerrilla strike force. They decided to head first to the towns that the enemy had marched through to reach the capital, as small groups of leftovers soldiers would be far more sensible to deal with than the majority of the CATS army.

When they reached the town, a foul sight assaulted their eyes. The town hadn’t simply been conquered, it had been utterly destroyed. Fragments of buildings were strewn all around, as if the town had been hit by a hurricane, and the ground itself had turned black. If this was the new power that the CATS wielded, it was evident that nobody now stood a chance against them. Upon a search of the town, it was discovered that there were no survivors, or indeed even any corpses, but something far stranger was found. There was… what appeared to be a rip in the air itself, opening into a black void, as if this weapon had damaged the very fabric of the universe. Richard examined it thoroughly, overcome by curiosity. He then stood back and slowly began to insert his sword into the void, testing to see what would happen to an object that encounter this rip. However, upon touching the void, both he and the sword disappeared completely. Overcome with panic, Cody sprinted over to his brother’s former location and attempted to look inside the void for him. By the time he realized what he had done, it was too late, he was pulled into a sea of black and lost consciousness.

Cody regained consciousness to the raging sound of a waterfall nearby, his head aching. He didn’t recognize his surroundings – where was he? The sun was larger and yellower than he remembered. Was this even Veslia at all? Abruptly, he remembered the events that had brought him here, but that just brought up more questions for him. Where was Richard? Was he nearby? Cody tried to get up and look for Richard, but when he attempted to move a harsh pain coursed through his head, and his legs were too weak to move. He sighed. Looking for Richard would have to wait until he recovered.

After a while, Cody heard a new sound, a sound that could mean either his rescue or his death. The sound of softly padding footsteps. He gathered his energy to turn his head to the sound of the noise, and swallowed. A pack of dogs were approaching him, and they didn’t look very friendly. The pack surrounded him, growling angrily at this strange new figure who had trespassed on their land. Cody struggled, but it was no use. We was simply too weak to stand up, let alone fight off a pack of dogs. The dogs seemed to have decided that he was their new dinner, and one started to gnaw on his arm, too see just how tasty he was. Suddenly, a streak of white zoomed in on the pack and started clawing the dogs left and right. It seemed to be a cat, but it moved faster than any cat Cody had ever seen.

It was over in the space of a minute. The dogs retreated, many of them yelping loudly at the deep scratches that they had obtained. Finally, Cody got a good look at the cat, which padded up to him with a mixture of curiosity and concern in its eyes. It also had a collar with its name on it. “Your name is Jamba, huh?” Cody managed to whisper. “Looks like we’re going to be friends.”

Also, here is Jamba's personal profile.

>_>;; Great... Mod fighting... anyway...

*Checks Bi-laws*

*Checks Bi-laws bylaws.*

*Looks for a loophole*

Well... under section six b. of clause XII d. under subclause XXVI a. I can't rightly do anything about that.

However, according to BA loopholes:

Specify a bit more what kinds of magic he can use (fire, healing, but what else, just so there is a little better understanding on what kinds of magic he controls, ya know), then I can approve him after that. ^_^

Also, yay Kitty! ^_^

Re: Cody (and his companion Jamba)

Alright, I gave him 4 "ye olde elements" that his spells fit under.

Re: Cody (and his companion Jamba)

Just vague enough with a good enough weakness for me to say: APPROVED. Now then, got beat up some people for not wanting to RP with you.
