Sir Maxwell of Lycia
Name - Sir Maxwell of Lycia
Age - Twenty-Two Race - Human Sex - Male Appearance - When you think of a young, adventurous knight seeking honor, glory, and perhaps a damsel in distress to save, Sir Maxwell, the Green Knight of Lycia, comes to mind. At twenty-two years of age, he stands five foot, ten inches tall and weighs 120 pounds(not including his armor, shield, and weapons which altogether add 80 pounds), which is rather short and light compared to your average knight. Sir Maxwell possesses short, light brown hair, that manages to be just long enough to need a grey headband to keep it out of his eyes. For some reason also, it always seems to be unkempt and uncontrollable, though it's debatable whether it's natural, or an attempt to impress the women he comes across occasionally. Behind the hair, he possesses warm hazel eyes and pale skin, showing he is of noble birth but, at the same time, a military man. This is because he has his fair share of scars, mostly on his arms, torso, and one on his lower right lip, but although he may exaggerate the details of how he got said scars, those listening will carefully note none of them came from actual battle, but instead training. Obviously this decreases their "badass level" dramatically, but combined with a devilish grin that never seems to go away and admittedly witty charm, it is not hard for Sir Maxwell to catch the eyes of the wenches. Now, being a knight, he must possess armor of some sort to ensure he doesn't encounter death too soon, and all pieces are his own, crafted exactly to his physical build and customized visually so he doesn't look like some generic, same-old boring knight in armor. As such, all plate armor pieces, his shield, and even his helmet, are colored hunter green with silver as a secondary color, and a notable gold trim. The coat of arms is visible on the center of the green shield, which shows a simple silver oak tree on a silver hill. His helmet is an armet, a typical knight's helmet with a couple of customized twists. It is bowl-shaped and covered the entire head, but has two hinged cheek pieces which can be locked at the front, and a visor shaped like a snarling lion's face. Eye holes and breathing holes are cut for ventilation and vision, with a slit where the mouth of the visor is, and the it is, unlike the rest of the hunter green helmet, colored gold to make it stand out from all the other armor. This customized visor contributes greatly to the intimidation factor of Sir Maxwell, and if an opponent is unaware of his actual skill level, it could also affect the fight in Sir Maxwell's favor. The pieces of his plate armor include a high-collared, light field breastplate, pauldrons for the shoulders, bracerless vambraces for the elbows and forearms in cavalier fashion, fingerless plated gloves, plates for the hips, and greaves for the shins including the knees. Now, of course, this means that his belly, groin, thighs and biceps are vulnerable, so underneath a black, long sleeved shirt and shaded pants he wears mail armor. Specifically, a chain mail byrnie for his top half, and chain mail chausses for the lower half. It must be noted that his armor is relatively spotless, betraying his inexperience in combat(either that, or incredibly good polishing skills). In a black scabbard with gold trim, on his left hip, is his iron bastard sword, while his shield is fastened securely, but still in easy reach, to his back. His iron war lance he'll usually leave with his trusty, brown steed, or take it with him on foot where he can use it as a spear. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the armor terms, or still don't have a clear picture, this is a picture of what Sir Maxwell roughly looks like. Hair - Sir Maxwell possesses short, light brown hair, that manages to be just long enough to need a grey headband to keep it out of his eyes. For some reason also, it always seems to be unkempt and uncontrollable, though it's debatable whether it's natural, or an attempt to impress the women he comes across occasionally. Eyes - Behind the hair, he possesses warm hazel eyes. Weight - He weighs 120 pounds, not including his armor, shield, and weapons which altogether add 80 pounds. Height - Stands at 5'10" Weapons - Standard Iron Bastard Sword, a long-bladed sword that can thrust and slash, and be used with either two hands or one, as the grip supports one and a half hands comfortably. It's a plain weapon, with no special metal or precious stones embedded into it. Standard Iron War Lance, seven feet long and a sturdy, but relatively light weapon that can also be used as a spear when on foot. Like the sword, this lance is rather plain in appearance, but then again, the point of both is to kill, not look pretty. Brom, Sir Maxwell's Steed, can technically be considered a weapon, if you note how it transforms Sir Maxwell from a rather slow, easy target with a bright green bullseye on him into a fast, dangerous warrior. Brom is a brown warhorse, possessing only bit and saddle, and is loyal, reliable, but he has a tendency to occasionally do what needs to be done with some style, better than Sir Maxwell in fact(much to his annoyance). Skill Mounted and Infantry Combat: It is true that Sir Maxwell has relatively little combat experience, but he has received extensive training on the subject, and he is at the very least good at the basics. His instructors have also commented often on the fact that he is a quick learner, and with patience, experience, and a bit of luck, Sir Maxwell has the potential to become a very powerful, cunning warrior. Strengths My boy, you will go far! As stated previously, Sir Maxwell of Lycia has caught the eyes of many an instructor for his near limitless potential, not to mention his almost unnatural ability at learning quickly if given the chance. Sure, he may lose the first battle with a weapon he's not used to, or against an unknown foe. But if he is able to escape, recover, and fight again on his terms, you'll note he's gotten remarkably better. Moreover, he's thought up of tactics and ways to outsmart his opponent, or use an unfamiliar weapon, that the so-called "experts" wouldn't have first thought of. Rinse, lather, repeat, he'll give the "experts" a run for their money before too long. Glory and honor to thy name! Sir Maxwell is an honorable man, which is obviously a plus amongst those who like to see good and justice be done. He is also quite tenacious, and has clear-set goals always on his mind, goals he is not going to give up easily. That's not to say he will follow a strict path to said goals. Rather, he will do anything and everything he can(provided it's at least semi-honorable and glorious) to achieve said goals, and probably form a few new ones along the way. And all this, for glory and honor to his name. Weaknesses Guns? Electricity? What sort of black magic is this?! Let's face it. Tech-wise, Sir Maxwell is far behind in the race and unlikely to catch up in time. His armor is no match for a bullet, let alone some laser-o-doom. His steed cannot match the speed of a car, and is not as powerful as a tank, and do you honestly expect an iron lance to pierce modern/post-modern body armor on the first shot? Didn't think so. Inexperience Self-explanatory really. Sir Maxwell has very little combat experience, and despite what he may say, training does not count. As such, his first couple of battles are going to be fairly rough for the poor guy, not to mention generally fighting unknown enemies, or fighting with unknown weapons... well, he's got to learn somehow. Orthodox Now, as stated before, Sir Maxwell is tenacious with goals, and will do what he can to achieve them as long as they're in any way honorable and/or glorious. That's fine and all, but the problem is the Green Knight is not the most imaginative person around. He will be relatively predictable and orthodox in his tactics, and will only very occasionally(usually when he's exhausted all other options) try something new. Don't be too hard on him, he's probably afraid of doing something monumentally stupid if he tries to be innovative. Personality - Sir Maxwell has been taught, since the day he was born, that honor and chivalry are above all else. As such, he follows that code of chivalry as best he can, and is somewhat naïve because of it. He frowns upon cheating and generally "dirty tactics" unless his life is in undeniable mortal peril, and nothing else will work. He believes in protecting and assisting the meek and the poor, being a pious, chaste man, and is what you would call honorable. Now with that said, life is a learning experience, and Sir Maxwell is slowly beginning to realize that it is next to impossible to follow the Code of Chivalry strictly while being genuinely happy. He does have his needs, after all. As such, he is more and more often at a crossroads in life, and it will show when he is confronted with a tough decision(such as, does he indulge his lust with a young barmaid, or refuse the impulse? Being the young, energetic man he is the choice will be quite difficult). Biography and Backstory - Sir Maxwell of Lycia is blue-blooded, born into a rather prestigious noble family residing in the Kingdom of Lycia. This family is known for turning out brave warrior after brave warrior, male and female, so it was to be expected that Maxwell would be no different. The first thing he could read was the Code of Chivalry, he learned how to ride a horse before learning how to walk, receiving fencing instruction as young as the age of three, the works. And Maxwell enthusiastically absorbed all this information and learned all these skills, partly fueled by the stories his parents and other family members told of past heroic deeds in his family, partly because he was a very energetic(almost annoyingly so) young man. Family members loudly proclaimed to their neighbors Maxwell would be a prodigy, he would grow into a legend, and they would do it often. Of course, as is life, there were very sharp bumps in this otherwise smooth road to adulthood. The most notable bump was the fact that at such a young age, the enormous responsibility and hard-training was none-too-healthy for Maxwell. Lack of sleep due to studying and practicing, disrupted eating habits, an increasingly short temper and diminishing patience level, and the occasional nervous breakdown, it would all add up. Only after one particularly nasty breakdown at the age of eight(which involved the death of a servant, the injury of two others, and the brief belief that Maxwell was possessed by a demon), were his parents convinced the training, the responsibility, it was far too much for a young boy that hadn't even hit puberty. So, they made it a more gradual process, giving the young knight-to-be a chance to recover, and give him more opportunities to live a relatively normal life. By doing so however, although they saved their son's sanity and possibly health, it made him look less like the prodigy in his early years, and more like an average, occasionally above average student, much to the displeasure of the rest of the family. Maxwell's parents held their ground however, stubbornly declaring that they'd "rather have a healthy, average son than an insane prodigy". So, time went on, and by the age of twenty, it was deemed that Maxwell, now Sir Maxwell, had completed his training, and was ready to begin bringing glory and honor to the family. Bidding a fond farewell, he set out with his supplies, armor, and trusty steed Brom, looking for adventure. He found none. This was due to the fact that all the powers on the continent were at peace with one another(a rare thing), and the best that could be offered were petty bandits and thieves. Not exactly the honor and glory, not even experience, that Sir Maxwell set out for. So for almost two years he travelled all over the continent, disappointed time and time again, until rumors bubbled to the surface: war was finally coming. A minor disagreement was transforming into a major quarrel rapidly, and this was an opportunity for Sir Maxwell to finally achieve his goals... But, while making his way to the inevitable sites of battle, he disappeared without a trace. Admittedly, he had decided to take a shortcut through the infamous Forbidden Woods, but it was the only path he could take that'd get him to the field of battle in time. What happened there was, and remains, a mystery... Last edited by Lord Grudzinski; 04-22-2008 at 04:01 AM. |
