Kapitän Aya Seran

If you would notice the references to Captain Spade's profile, that's because this character comes from the same universe.

Name-
Kapitän Aya Seran

Age-
17

Race-
Human

Sex-
F

Appearance-
In terms of physical appearance, Aya isn't representative of her generation of officers. At 5'3", she's almost two inches shorter than the average Seranni female, and seven inches shorter than the average Seranni male. And at 105 pounds, one would be surprised how much power she can pack in a single punch, considering her about okay, not-quite-not-exactly-voloputous figure. You won't see men chasing her around, although an ogle every now and then isn't unusual (they'll stop doing it the minute they learn who she is, though). Her fair skin is a testament to her noble upbringing. Probably.

Regulation grade hair for most female officers in the Reichsmarine (Imperial Navy) is defined as 'almost shoulder length'. Aya's dark brown hair fits this to a tea, coupled with a bright yellow hairband that allows a small, but by no means conservative, amount of bangs... Regulations didn't say anything against wearing accessories, after all. Aya's eyes are difficult to define. Some would say 'hazel'. Others, 'gold'. The safest way to put them would be light brown, with a sort of vigorous, natural glow to them. Bright eyed might be another way to put it. If you payed attention, then telling Aya's mood isn't as hard as it is to tell what she's thinking. When satisfied with herself, she will invariably be wearing a victorious smile. Other times, she'll just be keeping a somewhat neutral, almost pouting, expression. And only when she's really pissed will she show any sign of anger. Believing she outwitted an opponent will instantly grant her a smug smirk. A confident smirk, on the other hand, will crop up when she gets into a fight of any kind.

She wears the standard uniform of the Reichsmarine officer. A snappy, custom-measured, set of bright red attire. The button down tunic is tailored to her measurements, resulting in a snug, but by all means non-restricting fit, lined with gold in several places. Up front, the gold lining goes down the button line from the top of the Mandarin collar to the hem of the tunic. The gold lining also extends from the left and right sides of the Mandarin collar, down the posterior side of the arms, and ends at the cuffs. Three gold shoulder straps on each side, aligned to the width of the shoulders instead of the lengths, give the impression of epaulets. Similar straps can be found on the posterior side of the cuffs, aligned to the length of the arm. Aya constantly wears white service gloves. The last notable feature of the tunic would be two lengths of gold, braided lanyards, one running from the right breast pocket (meaning there's a left one too, obviously), one running from the forward tip of the outermost amongst the three right shoulder straps, joining just below chest level and going under the arm to the back, and connecting to the rear tip of the same shoulder strap.

From the waist down, you get standard black uniform pants/trousers. The gold lining is still present on the outside of the legs, and goes well with either fancy black leather shoes for dress occasions, or the more utilitarian black combat boots used on a day-to-day basis. Aya wears a white leather belt, with a gold buckle sporting the image of the Seranni Black Eagle.

Weight-
105 pounds, not counting the heavy ordnance she carries. This weight is distributed in a balanced manner between muscle and... well... you know.

Height-
5'3"

Weapons-

Kolter Ein Mekanism Armee Silber, (Kolter Single Action Army, Silver Edition) - Standard sidearm for any line officer in the Seranni Reichsmarine, manufactured by the Kolter Corporation. A .45 caliber single action revolver that performs well in any weather condition. Aya has decided to up the ante by using Moon Clips. Although a venerable design, the Kapitän has always bragged about one day getting hold of the flag officer sidearm, the Kolter .432 Magna Anakonda, virtually the symbol of an officer's promotion to a flag rank.

Heinrich Karabiner, (Heinrich Carbine) - Standard primary weapon used by the Seranni Reichsmarinen (Imperial Marines) and weapon of choice by some of the more action-oriented Reichsmarine officers. A carbine version of the .44 caliber Heinrich Wiederholen Gewher (Heinrich Repeating Rifle). Its magazine can hold up to 16 rounds and could fire as many as fast as the lever could be worked. The best shooters get fire-rates of up to 28 rounds per minute. Aya can get up to 25.

A Megaphone - Granted, it won't be of any real use other than to call attention or maybe give somebody a tap, but really. Aya is a ship Captain. Normally, she would use it to yell at sailors she catches slacking off on the other half of the ship.

A Cavalry Sabre - Used as more of a set-up for Aya's grittier, close-combat style than an actual weapon. Sweeping below an opponent to get them to jump into a sucker punch would be a good example of that. Alternatively, if she does use it as a weapon, expect her to fight either dirty, or with seemingly random, power-filled strokes that would give one the impression that she might be mistaking it for a light axe or something. An upward stroke to the groin of a male opponent is not uncommon.

Skills and "magic-

Not 'no style', My style! - The various Seranni War Academies teach an equally varied number of fighting styles, depending on one's specialty, each following a strict set of codes and rules. Aya doesn't follow these rules, she utterly demolishes them and makes her own. Mixing up moves from multiple swordfighting styles in an apparently random manner with hand to hand moves loaded with power and a little bit of something she comes up with every now and then (read: dirty tactics), and you've got a formula for whining and complaining from hardcore fencers. Sometimes, she just hits in reaction to the opponent's moves, with strokes, thrusts, and what have you that are just full of power, leading some to accuse her of having no style at all. Suffice to say, Seran isn't as 'random' as you would initially think. This girl only gives you the impression of such, but each stroke and kick is part of a path, usually only vaguely thought out but solid nonetheless, to a hard hitting critical strike.

Never use a sword when a gun makes more sense! - Probably Aya's way of saying 'never bring a sword to a gunfight', the first thing she will do when things explode is pull out either her revolver or carbine (whichever is more suitable) and start shooting at anybody carrying a weapon who isn't wearing red uniform... even if it was the guy who she was just talking to a couple of seconds earlier. Over the years, she's gotten pretty good with the quick draw and the right way to use a gun. Forget aiming, just point it in the enemy's general direction and pull the trigger. Suffice to say, it works every time, and she does this more often than not, despite the fact that she's actually pretty good at aiming. She claims the reason for doing this is that aiming wastes time.

Strengths-

I thought it up on the fly! - In order to get what she wants, Aya consistently thinks up of schemes so harebrained (normally while on the move) that they almost never fail. At least, when it comes to ground battles. Using her adjutant's 'assets' to distract a bunch of guards, thereby allowing escape, breaking the family jewels of a fencing opponent with a kick despite it being a swordfight, and using arguments so absurd that an opponent in a debate would be completely and utterly confused are just a few examples.

The Little Fireball That Could - Aya is surprisingly strong for her size. Not that she could knock a guy to the other side of the room, or anything, but she could certainly give him a jaw soreness that would last for days on end. This, along with her relatively quick reaction time and high top speed come in quite handy in a bar brawl, or a chase across the deck. These can be attributed to her absurdly high energy reserves, effectively turning her into a little fireball. She would make a balanced athlete in the modern world.

Weaknesses-

What the hell is a Deuterium Core Reactor? - Nowadays, revolvers are for the hobbyists and collectors of 'classics'. 16-round Repeaters at 28 rounds per minute have been traded in for 30- 60- and 90-round fully automatic assault rifles with fire-rates going up to 750 rounds per minute, chambered for anything between steel-core armor-piercing rounds to tracers to high-explosive shells. What's a boring old cavalry saber against a Vibroblade, or worse, a Lightsaber? Hell, even her megaphone doesn't stand a chance against boom boxes with volume settings that go all the way up to eleven! Folks, Aya hails from the dark ages of firearms, where semi-automatic isn't even dreamed of! How can she possibly survive with these outdated tools?

Megalomaniac? Hell yeah! I even carry a card! - Aya, simply put, believes that everything revolves around her. It probably has something to do with the fact that her name has, at least in the New World, become a household name synonymous to 'craziest psycho princess to sail the seas'. She only knows that everybody knows about her, not what they know. Due to this, she ends up ignoring the needs, thoughts, and feelings of others, boiling down to 1) ordering her ship to charge straight at the enemy, getting it sunk (she'd already lost twelve ships this way), and 2) inevitably poor social skills. She treats her personal adjutant as a room decoration, 'tactical distraction', and walking tea brewing machine, more than anything else. A particularly savvy opponent could take advantage of this and intentionally inflate her ego to the point that she would pop like an overloaded balloon at the smallest needle prick. Cause a few missteps in her sword swings here and there, throw a monkey wrench in her crazy plans... no plan is perfect, no matter how crazy it is.

Only human! - No lazer vision, no cybernetic enhancements, no ki blasts from her palms, no 1337 ninja skillz, no magical sword of ass-kickery, no protective hexagon barrier. Aya is a one hundred percent human person. Granted, she might be physically gifted by normal standards, but still only human. Prick her, and she will bleed. Tickle her, and she will laugh. Poison her, and she will die. Wrong her, and... well, I don't have to completely paraphrase Shylock here to get the point across...

Personality-
Aya could best be described as a 'Cuckoo'. Not exactly stupid, but not exactly insane, either. Most of the time, she might have her head up in the clouds, thinking of absurd ideas to match up with her delusions of grandeur, not to mention thinking up of the silliest ideas... "Tea is good. Tea with milk, fine. But how's about we mix tea with milk, salt, vinegar and a little bit of cinnamon to taste?" She has an ego the size of a continent, if not a planet, and frequently refers to herself as the "Ultimate [insert title here]". Despite all this... childishness, she nevertheless has a somewhat sharp, if somewhat overly imaginative mind underneath all that, shown by the fact that on most written exams, her scores ranked at least, above average. When it comes right down to where things count, you can bet on Aya to go from giddily distracted, to seriously determined. She may still seem like a basket case on the outside, but on the inside, the gears of her head have switched from 'Looney' to 'Lethal'. Actually, probably to somewhere in between the two. We don't really know.

Biography and Backstory-

Aya Seran is the extremely infamous younger sister of Führer Katrina Seran, the authoritarian supreme commander and head of state of the technophilic Reich von Seran. In an age of flintlocks, muskets, and other smoothbore weapons, their nation sports revolvers and repeating rifles, amongst other things. Führer Katrina came to power soon after their father, Kaiser Alfons, died under very mysterious conditions. From that point on, the Reich could pretty much be described as Nazi Germany as a colonial power in the 1770's. These guys are practically a proud warrior race. Every facet of Seranni society is about fighting. Philosophy, art, science, cuisine, and of course, the military, are geared towards honour and glory on the battlefield. Naturally, the military controls every facet of the government. The ultimate testament to their mentality, however, is that every able-bodied Seranni citizen is officially part of the armed forces, regardless of age. Normal pejorative slang for the average Seranni would included 'redcoat', 'lobster', and 'wind-up/toy soldier'. You get the idea. Anyway...

As the younger sister of Führer Katrina, who, suffice to say, was practically an evil Mary Sue, considering her virtually impossible academic and career achievements, expectations were high. Very high. In fact, the various academies expected Aya to equal, if not outright overshadow, her sister's achievements. To this end, Katrina pestered their father, Kaiser Alfons (still alive at the time) to allow her admission to the Reichsmarineakademie (the name speaks for itself) at the ridiculously low (and record-setting) age of eight. She graduated five years later at the rank of Leutnant zur See (Ensign/Midshipman). That being said, five years was but the average length of time expected for a cadet to finish their course.

Her rank of Kapitän was certainly not the result of outstanding performance. No, Sister Dearest promoted her straight up from her graduation rank two days after she finished schooling, despite widespread (but futile) protest by the Admiralität, one of the ruling bodies of the Seranni military. Katrina's motives behind this are the subject of heavy speculation, but the most likely reason would be that she wanted to throw her younger sister into the fray, thus, racking up as much experience as possible.

Aya's mediocre-to-bad performance at the academy wasn't a result of any form of idiocy. In fact, she displayed raw potential to become an excellent tactician, which is the only reason why the Akademie, with its ever-rigid standards, didn't kick her out whenever she did something stupid. It was more of her easily excited and borderline overconfident attitude that resulted in such terrible grades for the practical examinations. Written examinations, on the other hand, were at least above average, and she probably would have excelled if she had been studying hard, instead of running around the campus shooting rats, or doing other 'idiotic things' during her free time.

The downside in practical application was easily mirrored by her performance during the war on the Kingdom of Avelion, the dominant power in the New World, particularly during the Eisenberg Campaign, wherein, despite the overall success of the Seranni task force and the conquest of the island, she lost every ship (a total of four) that she had been assigned to command. Perhaps, at the end of the day, it was all part of her plan to gain control of the island, say some of the strategists who are aware of her hidden skill. The main reason why Seran had taken control of the island of Eisenberg was because the Avelian fleet stationed there so easily destroyed Aya's fleet that they let their guard down, and made the lethal mistake of underestimating the next flotilla sent to fight, which happened to be under the control of then-Kapitän Elysia Schneider, one of the more tactically tenacious of Seran's officers. Nevertheless, this wasteful strategy was marked more as a loss than a gain for Aya's reputation.

Since then, rumors have started surfacing, whispers among the upper and lower echelons of the military alike, of the true reason why Führer Katrina had given her sister such a promotion: to have her killed in battle. Whether it was a benign move to 'spare the throne from somebody with the likes of her', or a more malevolent 'keep the throne for herself', is unknown. The Führer was a genius, and could have either reason just as likely.

Most recently, Aya has been sent off to do the dirty work of Reichsintelligenz, Seran's shadowy Intelligence Arm, which had been rumored to have already developed such things as plastic explosive. The highly-secretive Chief of Special Operations, Standartenführer Rhianna von Adolf, allegedly the officer who sent Aya off on this mission, has been mostly tight-lipped about the details. However, she was willing to disclose an explanation, claiming that Aya was off to close a secret business deal in Remus, with somebody she could only describe as "a man of wealth and taste".
