Reiha of the Flame Sword
Here is ma newest character, hope you all enjoy ^^ you may want to go get a soda and some food for this one, cuz its a long one
![]() Name: Reiha of the Flame Sword (Reiha[ray-hah]Ayame [eye-ahh-may]) Age: 20 Race: Human/Soul Reaper Eye Colour: Red Hair Colour: Red Theme Song:Dance With the Devil by: Breaking Benjamin Weapons: Reiha carries a long katana named Shakugan which is her Zanpakuto. This katana is light, the blade sharp, and its movement swift. Armor: Reiha has no armor. All she wears is a long black coat, a black shirt or a white shirt, a black skirt, and black leggings.(see description for better idea!) If you noticed, she doesn’t where the traditional Soul Reaper clothing Strengths: Reiha is very swift in her movements. She is a master swordsman or swordswoman. Her katana is light giving her movement a given advantage. She is very agile and only master swords men can even come remotely close to hitting her. Weaknesses: Although Reiha is agile, she is a girl and has a smaller frame then men. She can be easily hurt by strong blows to her midsection. Any strong blow can knock her off her feet. Although, it may be extremely hard for someone to land a blow on something they can’t see, let alone catch. Skills: Shikai: This is the first spell obtained by Soul Reapers. It is used to defeat evil spirits and rivals. This spell uses Spiritual Pressure to disable a foe however like Ban Kai, it has a set limit though it can be used much longer than Ban Kai. The more Spiritual Pressure, the longer and stronger the Shikai. Reiha’s Shikai is flames in the shapes of flowers swirling around her body and blade in which she can use both to her will. Ban Kai: This is a powerful spell that only high level soul reapers can use. This spell draws out the soul within the Zanpakuto and unleashes its strength. However, there is a risk to using this skill, once they use Ban Kai, they have an almost set time limit for how long they can use it, and once that time limit is up, the wielder goes back to normal. In doing so, the wielder becomes very weakened, and this is when most Soul Reapers die. The stronger the Soul Reaper, the longer the time limit. When Reiha calls upon her Ban Kai, fire swirls around her body and forms a massive flaming phoenix. With its wings outstretched, this winged creature takes flight, burning everything in its path, and leaving nothing but soot and ash of her enemies. Description: Reiha1 Reiha2 Reiha3 Reiha4 Personality: Reiha has a very fiery personality, she doesn’t let anything stand in her way. This sometimes gets her into trouble because since she is so hot-headed she doesn’t know when to back down. She has few friends, perhaps one or two that know her slightly. She is a very good asset in battles though, her swiftness with her blade and the sharpness of her movements make her a master in the art of battle. Bio: Was just a normal day for her. But then again, what was normal to her. She was a strange child, even when she was of younger age. She never had many friends, some looked at her oddly, and some just didn’t look at her at all. Perhaps this is why she is the way that she is. Perhaps this is why, she is Reiha Ayame. Reiha was born in a small little fishing village. Her father was a fisherman, and her mother, well her mother had recently grown ill and couldn’t go to work. She had an illness that was slowly killing her. Reiha was young when her mother had fallen ill, so she didn’t fully understand what was happening. Her older sister Sayuri knew what was happening, but her father had told her not to tell Reiha about the pain their mother was in. Reiha was only six back then, so it was only natural that she didn’t understand, but she was smart. She knew when she would go and see mother, and when she should leave her alone. Reiha’s mother had always been kind and gentle. She had a soothing voice that, from what Reiha could see, calmed even the most vicious of storms. She never raised her voice, never got angry, never seemed to even get irritated. She had light blue coloured eyes that were serene and beautiful to look at. Her mother was of the water element, cool and calm and graceful. Reiha’s father on the other hand was slightly stubborn, and didn’t like to give up. His voice was gruff and scratchy, like when someone has a sore throat. But he had gentle eyes, eyes of a caring man. His eyes were a soft brown colour with a bit of amber in them. Occasionally he raised his voice at Reiha or Sayuri, but he never truly got mad at them. He was the earth element for he was strong and sturdy. But in being the earth element, he did sometimes butt heads with Reiha, since she was of the fire element. Her sister Sayuri was a sweet girl, but she tended to do things that seemed on accident, like making food, she made it look like the food just cooked itself. Reiha’s sister was a bit spastic at times, Sayuri seemed to jump out of her skin at the slightest scare, and perhaps it was just her element. Sayuri was of the wind element, which made her jumpy and jittery and also quiet energetic. When Reiha’s mother died, her small family went into turmoil. Her father became an empty shell of a man, and her sister busied herself throughout the day that any time Reiha wanted anything, her sister was too tired to do it. Reiha was ten when this happened, so she had learned that her mother was destined to die. She was destined to die, I know this, but I still feel the terrible dread of it. . . Reiha went through this same routine everyday for a couple of years, however, when she was thirteen, she decided that that was the time to get out. Her father had become worse, he was an empty shell that did nothing, he barely even ate. Her sister was so tired, that she never had the energy to do anything. Reiha’s fiery nature led her to this decision, being as she is one that needs to be doing something, because when someone of the fire element is bored, their destructiveness comes out. Reiha looked to the sky, remembering her family saddened her, and how she left them. She did it secretively, running away in the dead of night while everyone was sleeping. But she figured it had been the right decision. Reiha packed her things swiftly, she was leaving her small home, and the memories of the life she had lived here. The good memories and the bad ones, she was leaving them both, she knew if she retained those memories, she would be struck with homesickness, and she didn’t need that. She grabbed her small katana, it was nothing special, just a steel blade with a hilt and it actually wasn’t even hers. The night was dark, the moon an eerie pale sliver of a crescent. She rushed out of her small home quickly and silently, not disturbing anyone. Her steps quick and agile, yet something didn’t feel right. The air was stale and the presence of something sinister was all around her. This night is strange, it’s ominous. Is it telling me to return? No, I must keep going. She felt a blade slip in front of her throat, and she almost let out a scream, it was the last thing she saw before complete and utter blackness. Reiha’s eyes widened at this past thought it was how she became what she was, or what led her on her way to becoming what she was . . . Reiha stirred slightly, she was cold, no she was beyond cold, she was frigid and numb. She couldn’t move her body, and she didn’t know why. She felt like she was tied up, but she heard a few voices. “Looks like she’s coming around.” “Let her have some space Untah!” “Mimori go get some water for her” “Okay Satsu.” Reiha’s eyes opened slowly, the voices were warm, not cold like she had expected. She looked around, the room was somewhat run down, but it had a “homey” feel to it. She understood why she couldn’t move, for she had on about fifty pounds of blankets on her. But she couldn’t understand why she was so cold. “Welcome to the Soul Society, I am Satsu. Who are you?” The woman named Satsu had warm, caring eyes of the colour green. Her long black hair was shinning beautiful if the light streaming down from the window, and her face was a soft round shape. “I’m . . . . I’m Reiha . . . why am I so cold?” “That because your dead!” “Untah! Get out of here!” Dead? There was no way. How could she be dead, where was she. This place was so strange, it was not bleak like her hometown but brightly coloured. “Why does he say that I am dead?” Satsu turned back to Reiha, unsure of what to say. “Well you see Reiha . . . you were killed but you were saved by what we call Soul Reapers. The Soul Reaper sent you here, to the Soul Society, where the souls of the dead and the Soul Reapers live. So . . . you are unfortunately dead Reiha . . .” Reiha couldn’t believe her ears?!? She hadn’t even left her village, she had only ventured a little ways from her home, and she was killed! What would become of her father and sister when they found out she was dead. “Here is some water. I’m Mimori.” Mimori was a short girl, probably around Reiha’s age. She had short brown hair and amber eyes. She had a small smile but a big heart and she was very kind. “And I’m Untah!” Untah had spiky blonde hair, and he was pretty arrogant. Though he was kind hearted and stood up for his friends in the time of need. But he was pretty blunt about things. “So I’m dead . . . are you all dead?” Reiha’s hands trembled a bit, she was afraid to accept the fact that she was dead. “Yes we all are. We are souls in the Soul Society where the Soul Reapers protect us.” “Yeah we found you on the outskirts of the society, you looked pretty beat up, and so we brought you here.” “I carried you back all by myself haha” Reiha looked at these people, they were strange but welcoming and funny. Although, she was dead, it almost didn’t feel like she was dead. Soul Reapers, how interesting . . . “Will you tell me more about Soul Reapers miss Satsu?” “Since you just arrived here, I suppose you wouldn’t know. Soul Reapers are dead souls just like us, however they have a higher concentration of Spiritual Pressure.” Satsu told Reiha of the Soul Reapers. They were defenders of the Soul Society and also of the living world. She told of how Soul Reapers travel to the human world in order to escort lost souls to the Soul Society and also to destroy the evil Hollows. She told Reiha about how there were twelve elite squads, each with their own individual responsibilities. She also told Reiha about their weapons, the Zanpakuto, and how each Zanpakuto is warped to the Soul Reaper’s Spiritual Pressure. The more Spiritual Pressure, the larger the Zanpakuto. Reiha found this all quiet fascinating, and wondered if she had the ability to become a Soul Reaper. “Tell me Miss Satsu . . . Can anyone become a Soul Reaper?” “You can stop calling me miss, Reiha. And no, not just anyone, only people with the ability to manifest their own Spiritual Pressure is qualified to become a Soul Reaper. But that’s just to get into the academy.” “What is Spiritual Pressure, and how does a person manifest it?” “Spiritual Pressure is similar to say a person’s strength. However it involves the mind and spirit instead of body and muscle. Spiritual Pressure is pretty much the presence someone emits when they are around other people, like a person’s vibe. If a person has strong Spiritual Pressure, you can feel it nearly radiating off of them, if a person has weak Spiritual Pressure, then not so much. Also, the Spiritual Pressure acts the way a person does, if the person is good, then they use their Spiritual Pressure in good ways, and they are evil, then of course they will use it in a bad way. A person who is evil and uses Spiritual Pressure is a threat to the Soul Society and its inhabitants and therefore must either be destroyed or detained.” The academy . . . how interesting this Soul Society place is. “Once you get in the academy, you learn the spells of a Soul Reaper and eventually, you take a large test that qualifies you to become eligible to become a Soul Reaper, fail the test, and you are sent back to the classes where you scored the lowest on the test.” “Yeah, but is a disgrace to fail, so usually either everyone passes, or anyone who fails disappears.” “Satsu, how do you get into the academy?” “Well, once a year they have trials where you test into the academy. The trials change every year, but they are centered around whether or not you can manifest your Spiritual Pressure, a written test and a physical exam. Now from what I’ve heard, there are pretty tough. And I believe you have to be at least sixteen” Damn. That was the only thing that came to mind. Reiha was only twelve, but there was a benefit to this, she could train for the next four years in order to get accepted in the academy. “Reiha, you aren’t thinking about training to join the academy, are you?” “I am Satsu, this whole Soul Reaper thing interests me, and I want to give it a try.” Satsu sighed, this girl was a fiery spirit. “Well, it’s a good thing all of us found you. I’m a retired Soul Reaper, and I’m training Untah and Mimori to get accepted into the academy as well, I don’t think having a third would be bad.” Reiha was amazed at this, she was to be trained under a Soul Reaper veteran. A person who knew what it was like, and who had gone through all of the trials of becoming a Soul Reaper. “But you should rest tonight, your body pretty much just went through hell. You’re probably feeling cold, and that’s natural, so rest young Reiha, and tomorrow we’ll start your training.” Reiha couldn’t help but remember Satsu’s warm face. She also remembered Unta’s kiddy smile and Mimori’s sincerity. They had taken in a complete stranger, a person whom they didn’t know, and they had helped her along her path. Reiha started out the window, the sun warming her face, now that she looked back on it, if she had not died back then, she would still feel trapped, trapped in the world of the living. “Reiha . . .Reiha . . . . REIHA!!!” Reiha’s eyes snapped open. “What Untah, what is it?” “Did you forget?!? Today’s the day Reiha! And we don’t want to be late!” Reiha practically flew out of bed and threw on her clothes simultaneously. Today was the day, she was sixteen now, and all those four year of hard training with Satsu were about to payoff. It was the day of the academy trials, and she and Untah were to test their. Mimori was not coming with them, for Satsu felt that she was not ready and that Mimori was also only fourteen. Reiha brushed her red hair quickly and washed her face. She also prepared a quick breakfast for herself and Untah, it was a light breakfast, but it would keep them going throughout their tests. “Good luck to the both of you! And keep in mind, these tests are very serious, so take them seriously!” “Of course Satsu!” Reiha and Untah downed their breakfast and rushed out the door as quick as they could. Luckily, the academy wasn’t too far from their home, but they still ran as quickly as they could. By the time they got there, both of they were out of a breath. They stopped for a moment to regain their breath and then walked up to the boards that listed their names. They had registered a few months prior to the academy’s testing date and searched for their names on the large board. “I found mine Reiha, have you found yours?” “Hang on Untah . . . I’m still searching . . . ahh, I found it!” “What are you doing first? I’m to have the physical portion first.” “I get the hardest one first . . . I’ve got to show them I can manifest my Spiritual Pressure.” “Well, you’re good at it Reiha, better than I am anyways. I guess I’ll see you at the break then.” “Yeah, do we have the written portion at the same time Unta?” “Looks like it, so you have your physical last ehh?” “Yeah . . . that’s going to be fun . . . not.” “Good luck Reiha.” “You too Unta!” Reiha and Unta ran their separate ways, but they did not realize that in going their separate ways, they would be separated throughout their entire training. Reiha realized she had not seen Satsu, Mimori, or Unta in quiet a while, she had been to busy with her duties as lieutenant of her squad. Perhaps I should go visit them one of these days . . . “Reiha Ayame! It is your turn, show us your Spiritual Pressure!” Reiha walked forward into the white chalked circle, watching all of the judges peering at her intensely. She held out her right hand, and began to focus all of her energy into manifesting her Spiritual Pressure. She closed her eyes, and began to focus all of her power. . . Focus the mind, without a focused mind you will loose all concentration. Focus on what you want, if you do not focus how do you expect to get it. Focus on your power, focus on bringing it to reality! Reiha’s eyes shot open, and in her palm she held an orb of bright white matter, her Spiritual Pressure manifested into reality. Those four years of training paid off. The orb was large and bright, her Spiritual Pressure swirling around. One of the judges began to clap, and even stood up. “Well done Miss Ayame. You have clearly mastered the ability to manifest your Spiritual Pressure. The best I have seen in a long time.” The other two judges stood up, the female speaking first, “Yes, you have clearly been training, but under whom I wonder.” The other judge cleared his throat, he was an older man with long white hair, “Under one of our own Soul Reapers from the looks of it, seeing as how that stance is used by none other than our Soul Reapers, tell me Miss Ayame, who was your teacher?” “Miss Satsu Sakudori.” “Satsu . . . the retired Soul Reaper?” “Yes sir!” “But how, she was injured, far too injured to train anyone?” “She not only trained me, but my friends Unta and is in the process of training another friend of mine Mimori.” The judge who had stood up first looked at the woman and then to the elder. “Satsu was a very revered Soul Reaper of ours, but we thought she had been mortally wounded by a Hollow a few years back, to hear that she is training students, it is wonderful!” The woman however, did not look pleased by this, “If she is training, then why did she not resume her duties?” “Well you see, she could only train us in manifesting our Spiritual Pressure, she can no longer fight.” The old man cleared his throat again, and eyed Reiha as if looking into her soul. “Where is this Unta and Mimori you speak of?” Reiha was unsure if to tell them where they were, but she decided to do it none the less. “Unta is currently taking the physical portion of the trial into the Academy, while Mimori is still training with Satsu because Mimori is only fourteen.” The three judges looked between themselves, a look of puzzlement on their faces. They were whispering to each other and Reiha could not make out what they were saying which only puzzled her further. Finally after about ten minutes or so, all three of them sat back down, with a bizarre look on each of their faces. The old man began to speak first . . . “Miss Reiha Ayame, you will be permitted into the Academy without the need of further testing so long as you tell us, does this Unta friend of yours know how to manifest his Spiritual Pressure?” “Yes, as a matter of fact he can do it better than me!” Reiha thought she saw the flicker of a smirk cross all three of the judge’s faces, but if it was, it was only for a moment. The old man called down a butterfly, which struck Reiha as an odd thing. That must be a Hell Butterfly that the Soul Society uses as a way of communication, what an interesting creature. And it’s black on top of it. The old man whispered to the Hell butterfly, and it was off in a moment, then turned his head back towards Reiha. “As I said, we are permitting you into the Academy, without having to further test you, seeing as how even if you were to take these tests, it would be frivolous to you since you already know so much. Follow me, we are going to meet up with that friend of yours.” Reiha followed the old man, and was surprised at how briskly he walked. He was quick for an old guy, and it had taken Reiha slightly of guard. Remember to keep you’re guard up, for you never know what might be around the next corner. She kept walking, following the old man as they rounded a few corners and went up a few flights of stairs to their destination, the front doors of the Academy. “The Academy, here you will learn everything there is to know about your duties as a Soul Reaper. Come, let us enter.” “The old man opened the doors with ease, and led her to the registry office. The lady there nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw the old man. Who exactly is this old man? “Sq-Squ-Squad Ca-Cap-Capta-Captain Nu-Num-Numb-Number O-One, wh-what do I-I-I o-owe thi-this ho-hono-honor?” Reiha’s eyes were wide, she had just been led her by the legendary Squad Captain number One? She couldn’t believe it! Amazing, why didn’t I think of it before? Of course he’s Squad Captain Number One! Reiha noticed the door open once more, and Unta walked in behind another man. “Untah!” “Reiha?” “These two are to be enrolled immediately into the Academy, they have proved that they do not need to be tested further however, the boy must show me that he can manifest his Spiritual Pressure.” Unta looked around, “Huh, you mean me?” “Well you are the only boy around, so yes.” “Oh yeah,” Unta began to focus his Spiritual Pressure, forming a small orb and began to make it grow by adding even more, he did this with some ease, easier than Reiha did that is and his orb was even larger than her. “Impressive.” “Indeed is it not Squad Commander.” It was the other man, he too was fairly old, but not as old as the Captain of Squad One. “I had him demonstrate it to me on our way here.” “Lieutenant Barbari, finish getting these two registered, I must return to judging the rest of the entrants.” The Squad Commander left them with the Lieutenant, who easily registered them with the secretary and sent them off to their classes. “I can’t believe it Untah! We’re finally going to become Soul Reapers!” “Well Reiha, that’s only if we pass all of our classes you know!” Untah looked at her with his kiddish grin, one that always cheered her up. “Well . . . looks like we part here once more Untah.” “You make it sound like we’re never going to see each other Reiha.” Reiha punched him lightly in the arm, “You know what I mean you goof.” “I know Reiha.” Untah smiled once more, and then gave Reiha a high five. They walked their separate ways to their classrooms and thus began there training for the goal of becoming a Soul Reaper. A Hell Butterfly floated down from her windowsill of which she was looking out of into the Soul Society and into her room. It whispered its message in her ear, it was straight from her Captain, the Captain of Squad Ten. “Of course . . . tell him I shall see him there tomorrow bright and early.” The Hell Butterfly flew back through her window to deliver her message to her Captain. “MISS AYAME!!” The ruler rapped on the desk of which Reiha was sleeping on, since her enrollment to the Academy, she had been limited in her time of sleep, with all the training and homework. “Yes Ma’am!” Reiha nearly jumped out of her seat, not expecting a ruler to be rapped across the desk and then her head. “You will either stay awake and pay attention, or you shall leave my room at once!” Reiha scribbled down the notes on the board furiously, not wanting to miss a word. Her teacher was pretty serious, but she knew what she was doing. The bell had rung, dismissing the class to their lunch break, however, Reiha was put to stay. “Miss Ayame . . . I realize that the Captain of Squad One admitted you to the Academy, however this does not mean you get to slack off. I will not take any slackers in my class room!” “Of course Ma’am, I understand!” Reiha bowed her head and exited the classroom, her teacher’s eyes still boring into her. Reiha’s classes went on like normal, first class of the day was learning all of the powers of a Soul Reaper and learning how to defeat Hollows and escort lost souls to the Soul Society. “Now take notes on this everyone! Hollows are souls, just like us, however it is a soul who either still has regrets or wants to get revenge still and has not made the passing into the Soul Society. The reason they are called Hollows is that in their chests, is a perfectly cut out circle and you can see right through it. Now tell me, does anyone know how the best way to kill a Hollow?” Reiha raised her hand, of course she knew. “Miss Ayame, would you like to hazard a guess? “The best way to kill a Hollow is to come from behind and attack its head, this way you do not see the Soul underneath the mask.” ”That would be correct.” Then it was off to focusing her Spiritual Pressure and manifesting it even further (and she was the best in her class). Then lunch, and after that, the rest of the school day was dedicated to Zanpakuto training. Of course they didn’t have true Zanpakuto, for they weren’t ready for it, but they were using something similar. She rarely saw Untah anymore, the only time she actually saw him was when they went home, and even then, she would either go straight to bed, or both of them would lock themselves away in their rooms practicing and studying. A few month’s passed, and little of this changed, the same routine day after day, wake up, go to the Academy, come home, study or practice, and then go to bed. Satsu still training Mimori and Mimori still trained her Spiritual Pressure in the hopes of being able to manifest it. “Today is the day young trainees, the day you wield your first and only Zanpakuto! A Zanpakuto will transform itself according to your Spiritual Pressure.” They all lined up, and luckily for Reiha, since her last name started with an “A” she was able to get hers almost first. She picked up her Zanpakuto, and almost instantly, it transformed itself into a long slender katana. It pulsed at her as if it were a living breathing entity. “Most impressive once again Miss Reiha Ayame. Your Zanpakuto has already taken its shape to your Spiritual Pressure. Can you tell me what your blade is telling you?” Reiha looked up, what was her blade telling her? It pulsed like a heart beat, as if it were truly saying something. She closed her eyes, letting all of the other sounds die away, only focusing on the beat of her sword. It was speaking to her, speaking of something that Reiha couldn’t make out. What are you saying to me? Please speak to me my Zanpakuto! You are my wielder . . . my master . . . what is my name? I do not know, please tell me your name? But you are my master, my wielder, you should know my name! Your name . . . your name is . . . Shakugan! Yes, that is my name! You have done well my young master! I am the flaming flower Zanpakuto Shakugan! Reiha’s eyes opened slowly, her teacher still looking at her intently. “My Zanpakuto spoke to me.” “And what did your Zanpakuto say Miss Reiha?” “It told me its name. She told me her name!” Reiha’s teacher widened his eyes a bit, obviously he was a bit shocked. “Already your Zanpakuto has shared its name with you?” “Yes . . . my Zanpakuto is Shakugan, the flaming flower sword.” “Most impressive Reiha. And now all of you, keep your Zanpakuto close, never let them out of your grip. They are yours to keep, and yours to forever keep.” Reiha’s face beamed with pride, she had her Zanpakuto, she was nearly a Soul Reaper, the only thing left was to graduate the Academy, and that day was fast approaching. Her skills had multiplied ten fold from what they were. She was seventeen now, she had been in the Academy for a year. She went every day except for the day of rest, Sunday on Earth, and Soul Reaper Holidays, but other than that, she had never missed a day of her schooling. She had demonstrated her skill in combat, her wits in trickery, and her power in her Kido. She was ready, ready for the day of her graduation. However, she had not expected that she would graduate straight into one of the thirteen elite squads. Satsu and Mimori showed up they day of Reiha’s graduation, but to her surprise, Untah too was sitting in the stands. Am I graduating before Untah . . . Reiha waved to them from her place and they waved back. However Untah looked almost annoyed, like he should be up there with her. She would ask him tonight when she got home. “Reiha Ayame, age seventeen, graduating from Soul Academy in just one year! We welcome you as a new Soul Reaper, and as a unit of the late Hitsugaya Toshiro’s Squad Ten!” (OoC: I’m sorry, but I couldn’t resist :XD BiC: ) Reiha’s face beamed with pride, and she couldn’t believe she was a member of Squad Ten! This was amazing, Satsu had told her of the former Squad Leader Hitsugaya and how he was brave and dependable. Hitsugaya’s son was now the new leader of Squad Ten, but everyone still called him Hitsugaya like his father. The surprising thing was that he looked almost exactly like his father, though he had shorter white hair. Reiha looked out her window, remembering that day, Hitsugaya actually was only the lieutenant back then, and got promoted to leader when Reiha was about seventeen and a half. He was pretty young for a captain, for he had only just reached the age of twenty but he had already mastered his Ban Kai. “Welcome to Squad Ten Miss Reiha Ayame. I am Lieutenant Hitsugaya Ino.” “And I am Squad Ten’s Captain, Hatsumo Qaeda.” “I am pleased to be part of this wondrous squad Captain Hatsumo and Lieutenant Hitsugaya. I am grateful for your choosing of me.” Reiha bowed her head for it was the respectful thing to do. Captain Hatsumo Qaeda was a very beautiful woman, more so than even Satsu. She had long flowing black hair and crystal blue eyes. She was powerful and very skilled with her might Zanpakuto Rapier. Reiha’s eyes filled with tears as she remembered her late Captain. Killed by a Hollow, ruthlessly murdered, and with no one to help her. This happened just before Reiha’s nineteenth birthday. Untah had finally graduated, and was assigned to Squad eleven, the fighters Squad and Reiha had moved up the Squad ranks quiet quickly. “Reiha, I hear by promote you to my third in command now that you have mastered your Shikai. And you Hitsugaya, I congratulate you on mastering the Ban Kai. You are now within the ranks of Captain. Reiha, you must work towards mastering your Ban Kai as Hitsugaya has done.” Hatsumo said it like it was an order, but Reiha knew it was for her best interest. “Thank you Captain!” Reiha bowed her head, for she was still a subordinate to Hatsumo. “And Reiha, now that you are my third in command, you can stop bowing your head.” “Thank you Captain, for congratulating me on my success in mastering Ban Kai.” Hitsugaya hastily walked out of their Captain’s room, which puzzled Reiha. “Reiha, stay a moment will you.” “Of course Captain. What is it you wish of me?” Hatsumo adverted her eyes away from Reiha and began looking around the room as if searching for the words to say. “Well . . . you see Reiha, when I am gone Hitsugaya will take my place.” “Captain! How can you say such things?!?” “Because Reiha, I have foreseen this. And that is the reason why I promoted you so fast. I want you to be Hitsugaya’s Lieutenant because I believe that you will lead Squad Ten to greatness.” Reiha couldn’t believe her ears, her Captain believed she was to be killed sometime soon? It was impossible. “But Captain, I do not understand.” “Reiha . . . I am not sure how to say this but from what I have seen, Hitsugaya has taken a liking to you, and for this reason I appointed you to my third in command as well. But that is beside the point, Reiha, when I am gone you must help Hitsugaya, and remember both of you will be young. When I am gone Hitsugaya will be one of the youngest Captains in the history of the Soul Society, but he is strong, but in order for him to run a Squad efficiently, he needs the support of his Lieutenant as well. Is that clear?” “Yes Ma’am . . .” Reiha still couldn’t believe what she was hearing but she knew that she would support her Captain, no matter who it was. “That is all I wanted to say, you may leave if you wish Reiha.” Hatsumo finally looked Reiha in the eye, but Reiha could not make out what she was feeling, but Reiha felt it best if she left. She opened the door slowly and exited, closing the door behind her, leaving her Captain to her thoughts. “Good bye Reiha . . . Hitsugaya, keep this Squad in its greatness . . .” Hatsumo grabbed her Zanpakuto and swiftly headed out of her room. The sun was sinking as she headed towards the forested region of the Soul Society. “Hollow, I have come for you!” “Hitsugaya, have you seen Captain Hatsumo?!” Hitsugaya lifted his head to find Reiha quiet flustered, her red hair in disarray, and her breathing hard, “No . . . has something happened?” “I’ve been looking for her all day, and I c-“ “Lieutenant Hitsugaya! Third Commander Reiha! You had best report to the Council Room . . . unfortunate news has . . . befallen us.” Reiha looked out the window to find a member of Squad One and then back to Hitsugaya. “Lieutenant . . .you don’t think it actually . . .” Reiha tried hard to hold back the lump rising in her throat but to no avail. Her voice cracked and tears began to form in her crimson eyes. “There . . . there is only one way to check. Come on Reiha . . .” Reiha followed solemnly behind Hitsugaya as they made their way to the Council Room. When they arrived, all of the Squad Captains and Lieutenants were present, and some other Squad members. “Hitsugaya, Reiha . . . I am sorry to say, but your late Captain Hatsumo was found this morning, her soul taken . . . taken by a Hollow.” “No! Captain Hatsumo!” “Reiha, get a hold of yourself!” Hitsugaya’s tone was harsh but not cruel. They both looked at the body of their deceased Captain, and Reiha fought with all the power in her body to keep the tears from flowing freely. “And what of the Hollow?” “We were able to capture it, and destroy it. It will no longer terrorize our Society.” Reiha felt her legs get weak, and she fell to the floor on her knees. Her mind was racing, her Captain knew all along. Reiha felt stupid, she should have stayed by her Captain’s side. She wasn’t joking, she knew it was going to happen. Why didn’t I take her seriously? I’m such a fool. “So who is to be Captain of Squad Ten?” It was a member of Squad Four, obviously new from the looks of it. “Hitsugaya Ino will be the Captain, and he may choose his Lieutenant.” “But he is so young?” “And after such a tragedy, are you sure Captain of Squad One?” “Of course I am sure! He has mastered the Ban Kai, he is strong, he is ready.” “Reiha shall be my Lieutenant, I am sure that is what Captain Hatsumo would have wanted.” “Squad Ten, run by kids, now this will be interesting!” “Captain Hitsugaya, Lieutenant Reiha, inform your Squad of what has happened, and then perhaps, it would be best if your Squad were to take a leave of absence to mourn the death of your Captain.” “Thank you sir, come Reiha.” Hitsugaya brought Reiha to her feet and walked her out of the Council Room, though she was still in a state of shock. He brought her to the Lieutenant’s Room, which was still his, but was also now hers. He set her down on the bed, though it was currently unmade and untidy. “Reiha, look at me, we’re going to get through this.” Reiha’s eyes were filled with tears, and she could not muster up the courage to look her new Captain in the eye. “I . . . I am sorry . . . Hitsugaya.” “There is nothing to apologize for Reiha, there was nothing we could do.” “But she told me, she told me she was going to die!” The tears began falling freely now, and she could not stop them. Hitsugaya grasped her tightly in a hug and they stayed like that, letting Reiha cry on his chest. “Captain Hatsumo told me as well of what was going to happen, that is why I left quickly so that she could tell you.” Hitsugaya ordered down a few Hell Butterflies to spread the message through the Squad and he got the reaction he was expecting, nothing but complete and utter shock. By now Reiha had fallen asleep, but he did not mind. He did not realize it before, but he actually enjoyed holding her like this. But he knew he mustn’t get attached, there was no room in a Soul Reaper’s job for love, no matter how much they longed for it. By the time morning had come around, the news of Captain Hatsumo’s death had spread like wildfire. Everyone was talking about, some even giving looks of sympathy to the Squad members. But in time, they learned to move on, and under both Hitsugaya’s and Reiha’s command, they were able to become the Squad they once were. Reiha looked out the window once more, the day she saw her deceased Captain still brought back painful memories, but Hitsugaya helped her through the rough times. It was two and a half years ago that she became the Lieutenant of Squad Ten, and still not a day had passed when her mind hadn’t gone back to the time when she was under the orders of Captain Hatsumo. Hitsugaya, after almost a year, had finally moved into the Captain’s Chambers leaving Reiha alone in the Lieutenant’s Chambers. But she knew this was for the better, he would have to move in there eventually, no matter how much it pained the both of them. Memories, good or bad, help make a person stronger, I have learned this. However, they are still painful . . . The sun was setting, and she had to be up bright and early tomorrow to receive her orders from her Captain. Reiha got up and closed the window, letting the last rays of sunlight reflect of the window. She drifted into sleep, holding her Zanpakuto like she did every night. The morning would bring a better mind set, which she would need to complete her orders. “GAH! I’m going to be late!” Reiha rushed out of her room, dashing up through flights of stairs and down the halls to the Conference Room in which her Captain was waiting. She stopped right in front of the doors to catch her breath, and once she had fully regained her composure, she walked in. “You’re late Lieutenant.” “My sincerest apologies Captain.” “I have orders for you Reiha, orders from head honcho.” “Ooh, do you know?” “Yes I do, you are to travel to the Human World, and destroy as many Hollows as you can. From what I hear, they are running rampant throughout the Human Society.” Reiha nodded, “Yes Sir! I will destroy any Hollow that crosses my path.” “Then you best be off Lieutenant.” Reiha nodded once more, and walked out the doors, her journey to the Human World was just beginning.
