The Synchronizer

The Synchronizer

NAME: Kali Kairos

AGE: 16

RACE: Khyian (of the planet Khyia. Khyians look like humans in appearance, but are more advanced mentally.)

GENDER: Female

HAIR: Kali has straight, shiny black hair, which goes just past her shoulders in length and almost covers her eyes.

EYES: Kali has dark blue eyes, with a hint of bright silver when she has a positive attitude.

WEIGHT: Around 131 lbs.

HEIGHT: Near 5'11''

WEAPONS: Khyians believe that the best weapon is the mind. This is because their minds are advanced compared to ours, up to the point of being able to use telekinesis, among other psychic abilities both known to humans and unheard of. Despite this, Kali carries two small trapezoidal daggers which she hides in her pockets, able to draw them out exceptionally fast using telekinesis. Also using telekinesis, Kali can grab any item in the environment and wield it as a potential weapon. Of course, Kali can also use telekinesis directly on her opponents in combat.

ARMOR: Although Khyians don't usually wear armor, this doesn't keep Kali from doing so. Kali's armor consists of a shiny metal helm, gauntlets, boots, and greaves. The gauntlets and greaves are made with as many joints as possible, formed from small plates of metal joined together on black leather. This makes them flexible. The armor protects only her head, lower arms, and lower legs. The rest of her body is vulnerable to attack, but she can usually defend against that.

STRENGTHS: As most Khyians, Kali is strongest in mind. She can perform many psychic powers, and she can defend against most psychic powers. It's extremely hard if not impossible to read her mind, or to put her under any kind of mind control. She can also defend against any kind of spell against her mind, for instance a sleeping spell of some sort. She is also skilled in close combat mêlée fighting, and in knife combat.

WEAKNESSES: While Kali is strong in mind, she is not very strong in body. She is vulnerable to any strong blows and attacks. Also, her mental abilities can become weaker if she is deprived of food, water, and sleep, or if she cannot concentrate.

SKILLS/MAGIC: Kali can perform several psychic abilities, listed with their effects below.

Telekinesis- This ability comes natural to all Khyians, and is the first ability to be learned and mastered. Kali can perform simple telekinesis without even thinking consciously sometimes, sometimes instinctively.

Telepathy- Khyians can naturally communicate telepathically, especially among each other. Generally, however, Khyians cannot read minds.

Psychokinesis- This also comes naturally to Khyians, and is the ability to project mental energy into solid force. This force usually appears as a colorful energy, the color depending on the Khyian projecting it. It can be encompassed about the projector as a force field, or can be used offensively as bands or walls of energy. Kali's psychokinetic projection appears dark blue, with veins of bright silver running through it like electricity.

Levitation- Another standard Khyian skill, levitation is the ability to remain suspended in the air, by force without any physical contact. In essence, levitation is like flying, only using the mind rather than wings or such.

Insubstantiality- The ability to become insubstantial is one that is not mastered by many Khyian. Indeed, even the most skilled Khyian can only become insubstantial for a short amount of time. With enough concentration and mental energy, Kali can become insubstantial for a short period of time, so that objects pass through her; or indeed, so that she may pass through other objects. This can be used to phase through walls and such. Because her insubstantial form is made of energy, she cannot pass through other forms of energy (such as electricity) without harm (in this case, electric shock) and light still reflects off her, so she is still visible while insubstantial. Even so, her appearance changes slightly, blurring details and colors.

Teleportation- The ability to dematerialize, translocate, and then reform is one step away from insubstantializing, which is partial dematerialization. Kali can teleport to nearby areas by dematerializing into pure mental energy (which looks in appearance like the mental energy in psychokinesis) and then translocating and rematerializing. It takes a lot of concentration and energy to perform this action. Kali can only teleport to areas within approximately 2500 feet.

Astral Projection- Only masters of the Khyian powers can perform astral projection. A bit of a mixture between psychokinesis and insubstantiality, astral projection involves sending the mind out of the body in the form of mental force (which, in appearance, would look exactly like the mental force in psychokinesis) which is normally solid, but can become insubstantial for the purpose of phasing through objects. The projection can take any shape the projector wishes, usually the form of the projector but occasionally the form of an animal the projector identifies with, or favors. Astral projection, although harder to perform than insubstantiality, can be held for a slightly longer time. Because the mind goes with the projection, the body is left vulnerable. The projection can attack with physical attacks, but cannot travel very far away from the body.

=Chronokinesis=

Every Khyian learns a special ability, one that is not shared by the common race. This could be the ability to perform photokinesis, hypnosis, hydrokinesis, pyrokinesis, lithokinesis, transmutation or perhaps some other or unheard of ability. Although these special abilities are not necessarily unique (more than one Khyian could have that ability at any given time) it's not a common ability, and is granted to a select percentage of the Khyian people.

Kali's special ability is called chronokinesis. Although she cannot literally travel time with this ability, she can speed up or slow down her perspective of time. Speeding up her perspective of time (hyperchronokinesis) allows her to see things at a faster rate. To other's perspective, she would appear to be moving and reacting slower than normal. She can use this selectively, rather than effecting her entire perspective, to decrease the time it takes certain things to occur (for instance, she could use selective hyperchronokinesis to heal a wound faster.) The rate at which she can speed up time depends on the range she wishes to effect. At full range, effecting her entire perspective, she can speed time up to two times the normal rate. The smaller the range, the higher the rate, up to five times the norm.

Slowing down her perspective of time (hypochronokinesis) would make everything appear to move slower. This would decrease her reaction time to things, and make her appear to be moving faster than normal to others. She can use this selectively to increase the amount of time it takes a certain event to happen (for instance, she could slow down a timer on, perhaps, an explosive). The rate again is relative to the range. At full range she can decrease time at a rate of one half the norm. The smaller the range the greater the rate, up to one fifth the normal time period.

Using both hyperchronokinesis and hypochronokinesis together at the same time is a special skill called synchrokinesis. Synchrokinesis slows down Kali's perspective of time, while at the same time speeding it up. The result is that time seems to stop for about one minute for her, but she sees flashes of images of what will transpire within the next hour. This ability can be highly useful, but not necessarily in actual combat.

APPEARANCE: Kali Kairos is somewhat lanky, being tall and slim. She normally wears a black jacket and black cargo pants, with shiny metal zippers. Over that she wears an all-encompassing cloak, which is reversible; black on one side, white on the other. Normally she wears the black side out. The black side is decorated with silver threads, sewn in the shape of a circle. The same circle decorates the white side, only in gold thread instead of silver. The cloak has a hood on it, which she can cover her face with.

She also has an interesting set of armor. The first article of armor you would probably notice is the helm, which is similar in style to a sallet. The shiny metal helm covers the top of Kali's head, and has a gap for the eyes. It does not cover the front of the face or the chin, however. Thus her somewhat small mouth is clearly visible, as are her dark blue eyes through the gap. She also wears shiny metal gauntlets, made from small plates of metal sewn together on black leather in order to be flexible. They cover her hand entirely, and also the rest of her upper arm. It is usually hidden mostly by the sleeves of her jacket. She also wears shiny metal boots, that cover her feet. Extending from the boots, under her pants legs, are a pair of greaves, also made to be flexible like the gauntlets.

Lastly, her cloak is fastened with a silver circular brooch, which is encrusted with a blue sapphire.

PERSONALITY: Kali usually seems dark and mysterious to people, mostly because of the way she dresses. She is a quiet person, but not shy or timid. She isn't afraid to take action when need be, and doesn't go easy on people. Although she has a long fuse, when her wrath does get set off it's not a pretty sight. Even though she prefers not to kill people, she doesn't think twice about it if the need comes. She can be ruthless and merciless to people who choose to mess with her.

Despite that, she is a relatively good and nice person. She is loyal, honest, and responsible. If you don't mess with her, she won't mess with you. She tries to work for the greater good in any given situation, but only if it works out in the end for her personal goals.

BIOGRAPHY: Time froze. Around Kali the other many Khyian youth were suspended in action, some of them in midair. The Sun seemed to dim slightly, as even the light stopped moving. There was no wind, and she wasn't cold any longer, as the heat was no longer leaving her body. Plants, animals, everything all stopped. Then the world seemed to fade out, as flashes flew before Kali's eyes, taking up her mind. It was all over in about a minute, and then the world and time was back to normal. Kali's head was in pain though, and she fell on the ground.

The nearby instructor saw Kali fall, and flew over to her. Most of the youth continued their training, honing their mental skills. The training was mandatory, for the purpose of maintaining peace. An untrained Khyian was a dangerous person, to himself and others. The instructor called a couple of medics via telepathy, and they quickly arrived.

They examined her, and informed the instructor that she had fainted from mental exertion. Mental exertion happened when one used too much mental energy, and was normally associated with either too much usage (which normally didn't happen, as it would be painful to use mental abilities up to the point of exertion, and the training session was not long enough for such a thing) or from using a special ability that one was not used too. At around the age of 13 every Khyian gets their special ability, and when they first use it they are not used to it and will usually faint from the amount of energy it uses. However, special abilities usually are more obvious than what Kali had done and simply fainted. That is what puzzled the instructor.

Nonetheless, he knew what it was, and he told the medics to take her home to rest. They did so, carrying Kali with telekinesis back to her house, where they told her parents what had happened and to be wary of her special power. Special powers could lead to havoc and chaos if used wrongly, and they were usually used wrongly when they were first used. Kali's parents took heed, and sent their daughter off to bed.

The next day, when she was able to explain what had happened, the instructor was able to find a special tutor who knew about the power. Although the tutor didn't possess this ability, he had done some studies in it, and called it "chronokinesis." When Kali met the tutor, she thought she recognized him, in a sort of déjà vu. The tutor explained that she had probably seen him while performing synchrokinesis, and explained to her what the rare ability was.

Thus, she trained under her tutor for many months.

When she had finally completed her training, she was granted the ceremonial cloak, colored and designed to her liking. She wore the white cloak with pride, a token of her achievements in training. However, she didn't stop her training there. She continued to train, trying to master some of the harder abilities.

Darkness, decay, and death drifted down the streets. The Plague had come, and it hit hard. The Plague, the only name it is known by, is a virus that deteriorates the brain, and is spread through the air. Kali had foreseen the event an hour before it happened, but she'd been away from town at the time. Now she found herself walking down the streets, shielding herself with a dark blue bubble of energy. Her white cloak trailed out behind her, confined within the bubble of clean air she had around her. All about were the dead bodies of the people of her hometown. She found her house, and saw what she'd feared. Her parents had not made it out in time.

She retreated to where there was fresh air, and drifted into synchrokinesis. Everything stopped moving, and faded into brief images of the near future. All she saw was more death, as the virus continued to spread. She wasn't safe even where she was now. When time returned to normal, she decided she would leave the planet for good. She wouldn't be the first to do so, nor the last.

She gathered up as much air as she could in a large sphere of energy, and with a burst of telekinesis took off for the sky. She'd learned a little about how to navigate space rifts and wormholes, and used that knowledge carefully. There was one wormhole near the planet this time of year that led to another habitable planet. That's the one she traveled.

She woke up when she hit the atmosphere. It was a rough ride, and her psychokinetic sphere shattered from the force of the impact. Dazed, Kali fell through the clouds getting ever closer to the ground. Below her was a city, tall metal and glass buildings reached up to the stars, moonlight reflecting off of them. However, it seemed Kali wouldn't hit these structures. She was above an ocean of water. Still slightly dazed and confused, she almost forgot to brace herself for the crash landing. She formed another bubble of energy just as she hit the cold waves of water.

She woke up with her face to the sunny sky, on her back in cold water. Two men were standing over her, obviously concerned. She quickly came to attention, and rose to her feet.

"Are you okay?" one of the men asked. He was dressed up in a way that suggested he had been jogging.

Kali had learned a small amount of English in her advanced training, and was able to understand the man.

"Yes, I am...fine," she said.

"What happened?" the other man asked. He was older, and dressed in a way that suggested he had been fishing, or going to fish. The fishing pole he was holding also suggested the same thing.

"No...nothing." Kali slowly backed away.

"Are you sure you're okay? Medics are on their way now," the younger man said.

"I said I am okay. I do not need...medics." Kali didn't know exactly what "medics" meant, but she could guess based on the way they spoke. She turned around and began to walk away from the water. After a few minutes, she got to the city.

It was a very large city, with buildings taller than anything Kali had ever seen before. In order to be safe, she decided she would peform synchrokinesis before continuing. In doing so, she saw some strange images of the future. She saw first a building's exterior, then she saw it's interior. There was an image of a man, dressed in black with his face covered. Then an image of a weapon, a gun and then a knife. She saw people kneeling on the ground, fear in their eyes.

Then it was all over. The events to take place would be somewhere near, she knew. It was some kind of attack or robbery, she concluded. These kind of things happened on her planet, only differently. She could easily stop this one from happening if she used her skills.

She looked around for the building she'd seen, and finally found it. It was most obviously a bank. The hold-up was just starting as Kali walked in. There were five men dressed in black, all of them holding knives. One of them also had a gun and was pointing it at the people on the ground; one of them including the security guard the firearm had been taken from. The robber looked at Kali, and after a moment of confusion at the way she was dressed (or perhaps the fact that she was soaking wet) pointed the gun at her. "I've no idea what your problem is, but you get down with them! On your knees or I shoot!"

With a flick of her wrist, the gun flew out of the man's hands and landed next to the guard. Surprised, the guard picked it up and aimed it at the robber, who was staring at his hand in shock.

Not done yet, Kali also snagged the knives of the other four men; all of them sticking into the ceiling. As they began to retreat (save for the one with the gun pointed at him) Kali used hypokinesis to slow everything down, and quickly knocked each and every robber out with a swift kick to the head. When time returned to normal, they were all out cold on the ground.

She left the people in shock, and walked out. She figured that while she was here on this human world, she would learn as much as she could about their lifestyle, so that she could blend in. However, she would act as a hero to the people here as well, since their world was one of chaos...

Re: The Synchronizer

Technically, I'm not a Councilor anymore, so my approving privileges should disappear. Officially, that is. Unofficially, I'm still more than qualified, and I doubt they'll have any complaints. The Council could use a little help. That being said, on to your character!

Interesting... Are you a first-time RPer? If not, then kudos on a job well done. I have only two complaints.

1. In the appearance section, you describe her attire but not her bodily appearance. In particular, you should describe her facial features with greater detail. For instance: shape of head, size of mouth, position of eyes... That sort of thing.

2. The bio is excellently done and, while the excitement factor could use some fine-tuning, you weave an interesting tale without making it too long. Good amount of detail. There is one more thing I'd like you to address, though: family life. Knowing a character's childhood years can help the writer develop a closer connection with the character and write her more effectively. That, and it'll also help your fellow RPers interact with her more realistically.

Take care of these two things, and you've got your approval.

I am not technically a first time RPer. My first time RPing would be...April 18 of this year. So I'm not exactly an expert either.

1) Shape of head? Position of eyes? It seems kind of redundant to say "her head is round, like most humans, and her eyes are set above and on either side of her nose." Which is why I didn't say that. I did, however, edit the post to say her mouth is somewhat small. I don't usually think with much detail about the shape and size of my character's features.

2) This will involve some thinking on my part...I'm not sure where in the biography I can insert this. I guess I'll get working on it though.
