Kai Chosen: The Lightning Dragoon
Name: Kai Chosen
Age: 19 Race: Winged Lightning Dragoon Dragoons are very similar to humans in most respects. However, dragoons have draconic wings that usually have colored scales to represent their respective element (Kai’s are purple because she is associated with lightning). They also have the ability to wield magic, though their actual proficiency depends on the dragoons themselves. This race is also rather long lived, able to live up to about 250 years. Lastly, most dragoon colonies prefer not to become involved with the outside world anymore; remaining quietly in their forest communities. Sex: Female Hair: It is light brown and kept short, about to the middle of her ears. It is also kept very straight. Eyes: Deep, Rich Purple Weight: 142 lbs Height: 6' Weapons: Raisen - A one-handed sword she found on the Isle of Waterfalls. Its iron blade is somewhat in an irregular shape, narrowing about halfway down, widening about a third down, and then narrows again to come to a point. This pattern gives the blade a S-shape to it. The guard has four bars that jut out in a X and they are pointed, meaning they could be used as a crude weapon if Kai had to. The handle has a spiral pattern on it and both th handle and guard are golden. Finally, in the blade near the guard sits an amethyst that can hold the lightning element. Kai salvaged this gem from her broken scimitar and implanted it into Raisen. Dragon Eye - A bracelet that Kai received from a mage known as Miguel. It is silver in color as has four rectangle joints that are connected by three rings, giving the bracelet an overall square appearance. On each joint are two stones, one for each element: blue and purple for water and lightning, white and black for light and darkness, light blue and red for ice and fire, and yellow and green for air and earth. Each stone holds a small amount of its respective element in it and this can be used to power up her magic, but only very slightly. However, using it for that would detract from its most important use. Dragon Eye allows Kai to see any magical enchantments on an object or person. This can help so she doesn’t trigger some kind of magical trap or attack an opponent who has a magical ward on them. Also, because she can see the magic, she can figure out a way to get around it. However, because magic would probably be considered her weakest ability, she really doesn’t have the knowledge to figure out an enchantment on the fly. Instead, she usually activates them and simply dodges whatever happens, if it’s possible to dodge. Armor: A simple shirt of chain-mail sits under her clothing. While it can stop swords and such, narrow weapons might be able to get through the links themselves. Also, blunt weapons such as clubs or hammers would not be slowed too much by this armor. Strengths: Speed is probably her greatest attribute. On ground, she could run circles around a normal speed opponent. In the air, her maneuverability is even greater and would probably only be slowed by things such as high trees or high wind. Also, since she relies on her sword more than her magic, Kai is fairly adept at swordplay. Finally, her ability to use lightning magic in a variety of ways can give her somewhat of an advantage in unpredictability. Because of her association with lightning, she can also absorb any lightning magic used against her and turn it into her own power. Weaknesses: Strength would be her weakest attribute. She couldn’t hold up against someone with more than normal strength and would be pushed down. Also, if her movement is somehow restricted, Kai would lose her greatest strength. While her magic can be used in a variety of ways, she still hasn’t quite master magical usage. Thus, her magic can end up weaker than she wants or even stronger than she intended. Finally, water is a great hindrance to her. If she gets wet, the water will eliminate her ability to absorb lightning magic. This means she could even harm herself with her magic. While she’ll tolerate water to take a bath or drink, Kai tends to avoid large bodies such as rivers, lakes, and oceans. One could almost say she is mildly hydrophobic. Magic: Lightning Manipulation: This is simply her ability to use lightning magic. She is hardly restricted by what uses her magic has, the only real restriction being how much she must put into whatever she wants to create. Kai’s normal manipulation is firing bolts of electricity at the opponent. She can also create a shield of lightning to ward off attacks. If the shield isn’t destroyed after stopping an attack, she can turn it back into raw magic for a different manipulation. She could even create a small orb of electricity to see in a dark area. Her lightning is colored purple. Static: A certain usage for her magic, Kai can generate a small electricity current through her body. Anybody that would come into physical contact with her would be shocked by the electricity. She generate a large enough current to really harm a person but would certainly be a hindrance to any opponent that focused on physical combat. She can also extend the current to Raisen so that anything touching the sword would be shocked, as well. However, she can’t keep the current up for more than half a day. The currently slowly drains her magical energy and keeping it up for too long would stop her from using her magic in other means. Ranarath: A summoning spell of sorts, Kai can call upon the spirit of the dragon of lightning. By doing so, she can manipulate her magic into the form of a dragon. This dragon can fight as long as Kai has the will to continue such a strenuous effort. Once her will begins to wane, the dragon will perform a kamikaze attack, hurling itself at the opponent and exploding in a mass of lightning energy. Any left over magic will be given back to Kai. If used while Kai is at full strength, this spell will drain enough of her magic that she will only be able to use weak and small manipulations of lightning. Even if some of her magic is returned after the dragon is gone, she won’t be able to continue a battle for much longer. Worst, if an opponent manages to completely dispel or absorb the dragon, Kai would be left in a highly weak and vulnerable state. This summon is meant to end a battle and is only used if Kai really doesn’t have any other options. Celestial Wings: While this spell was original given to her by a dragon scale during her training, it was awoken when Kai’s scimitar was split in two. With this spell, the scales on Kai’s wings grow into lavender feathers, reminiscent of feathered dragons. This transformation fortifies her ability to use her magic, greatly increasing that ability. Though, with her initial lack of control, this means she only has slightly better magical abilities than a normal dragoon. But because of her magical enhancement, she uses her lightning extensively and almost completely forgoes swordplay. It is somewhat hard to achieve this state, as the dragoon must calm herself completely before the transformation will take place. Once this spell has run its course, Kai is worn out afterwards since she normal cannot use her magic to such an extent. Sight: This ability uses a bit of dark magic to allow Kai to see in complete darkness. Instead, she is able to see heat signatures. The dragoon isn’t quite used to seeing like this so she can sometimes mistake one thing for something else. Also, if something has a very high heat signature, it can actually blind her and force her to look away. On the opposite side, if something has a very low heat signature or none at all, she won’t see it. All in all, it’s not the most reliable magic to use but better than being completely blind in the dark. Shade: Another spell used with dark magic, Kai is able to hide herself in darkness whether it simply be shadows or a moonless night. This magic only allows her to disguise herself so she can’t be seen easily; she doesn’t merge with shadows or become incorporeal. Movement allows her to be caught more easily so if she sneaks around, the dragoon shouldn’t move when others are nearby. As a result, she really can’t move while this skill is active unless she wants to give herself away. Obviously, shining light on her will immediately dissipate the spell. Appearance: With an initial look, one probably wouldn’t think too much about Kai. Her clothing consists simply of green trousers, brown leather boots, and an off-white sleeveless shirt. The clothing usually has some kind of stain on it, mainly mud splatters or grass due to her constant traveling. She also has a black cloak that, along with various stains, is also tattered at the ends and has a few holes simply attributed to travel. She hangs the sheath to Raisen on her back. The sheath is hard, brown leather and has a leather strap that goes around her chest to keep the sheath in place. The handle to the sword protrudes under the cloak, easily showing that she carries a sword. However, the sword handle does draw away from anything else hidden under the cloak. Kai keeps her wing close to her body when they aren’t in use so that their outline is hardly visible underneath the cloak. Outspread, her wings have a span of about seven feet. The scales are a shiny royal purple that seem to repel most dirt and grime. The webbing between her wings’ “fingers” is white and slightly transparent. The wing “fingers”, which there are three of counting the end one, end in a small claw that is slightly sharp. In the middle top of the wing, where they fold, is another claw that is slightly larger and sharper than the others. However, this claw is only on her right wing. The top of her left wing has a healed stump where the claw was cut off. Of herself, the dragoon has a bit of a slender figure. One can see that she has muscles but they aren’t huge or anything. She simply looks healthy. Her skin a little paler than one would expect from all traveling she does but it doesn’t make her appear ill or anything. Her light brown hair is straight and short so it doesn’t get into her eyes or interrupt during a battle. She doesn’t do too much to her appearance so she can seem rather plain in the eyes of some people. Her eyes are a rich purple and, when under high emotions, her pupil can become vaguely slitted. Awesome drawing by I)ragon11. Kai is the one on the far right. Personality: Kai is generally a happy person. Not the excited kind of happy where a person is always bouncing off the walls, though she can get that way around friends sometimes, but a calm happy where she has a fairly positive outlook and a smile on her face. She tries to see good in everything but has been unable to do so a few times. If something does get her down, Kai tends to mope and wander around in search of something to distract her. When it comes to being around other people, the dragoon can easily get nervous. She tends to worry about what people will think of her, especially after a village attacked her simply because she wasn’t human. However, once she warms up to someone, or vice versa, Kai can become incredibly out-going. She’s not afraid to talk about most things; the one thing she might avoid is her birthplace, Grydon, but that’s mainly because of the fact that she doesn’t want anyone going there and breaking the peace the dragoon have. The dragoon is also extremely loyal and wouldn’t betray any of her friends, coming to their aid whenever she could. This loyalty also extends to her family. While she only has contact with her sister, Cila, Kai would do anything for her. In battle, Kai’s actions can easily change. If she isn’t sure about the reason behind a battle if she doesn’t know anything about the opponent, she can become hesitant, often waiting for the foe to make the first move. She can also become nervous and even hesitate about hurting the person. If she’s having a friends spar, Kai will allow herself to enjoy the battle and just generally have fun. She will try to restrain herself, though, and hold herself back so she doesn’t hurt her friend. The only time she would really go all out on an ally is if the person wanted her to and she was sure they wouldn’t get too hurt. Finally, if Kai comes upon someone who is simply cruel and wicked, she will fight without reservation and with complete conviction. She becomes serious and tries to plan in order to finish off the opponent easily. Kai is also careful not to let anyone get hurt in battle, which an opponent could take advantage of by attacking innocent people. Finally, it is worth noting that dragoons are taught to show reverence to dragons and anyone connected to them. This is because dragoons were brought into being by dragons; thus, the entire race owes the dragons their existence. As such, she will be formal and humble around dragons, taking care not to do anything that might be offensive. She would also do anything a dragon asked unless it completely conflicted with what she believes. Along those same lines, if met with a dragon that is evil, the dragoon would be in a bit of a rut. She is taught to show reverence to any dragon; however, she also is taught not to tolerate evil. Basically, Kai wouldn’t know what to do. Eventually, she would most likely come to the conclusion that she has to stop the dragon but, by the time she decided, the dragon could already be gone. Or have killed her. Biography: Kai was originally born in the dragoon city of Grydon. Hidden in the Yana Forest, the dragoon city was unknown to the world. Just how it was suppose to be. After an event known as the Hadraca Daemon World, dragoons cut themselves off from the rest of the world after the race suffered some of the worst casualties in the war. Kai’s mother was a lightning dragoon, like herself, while her father was an earth dragoon. It isn’t unusual for dragoons to have parents of different elements. Her family was about in the middle in terms of respect and power, so her life was fairly comfortable. Kai always seemed a bit of an outcast when trying to make friends which she attributed to her over-enthusiasm about new things. However, she did manage to make friends with an ice dragoon known as Terra. Terra was more of an outcast than Kai was, having been born with a defect that resulted in her having only one wing. The ice dragoon made up for this easily with ability to use her ice magic easily at a young age. Through Terra, Kai also became friends with Regal, Terra’s earth dragoon brother. He quickly warmed up to the lightning dragoon, practically adopting her as another younger sister. However, the dragoon made rivals, as well, A fire dragoon, known as Akira, always seemed to have something against Kai. With Akira also belonging the highest family in Grydon with power only outclassed by the Council, there really wasn’t anything Kai could do about Akira’s rudeness. However, Kai could almost thank Akira for being cruel, otherwise a wind dragoon known as Syk would’ve never stood up for Kai and she would’ve never met him. While Syk was older than her, 40 years to be exact, he appeared and acted to be her age and they became very close. Eventually, from seeing Syk train with his spear and from hearing tales from her parents, Kai decided she wanted to learn how to fight. Her parents were hesitant about this at first but eventually agreed to teach her. Her mother gave Kai her old weapon, a scimitar inlaid with a magical amethyst, and taught to her control her magic. Or, at least, to control it better. They soon both learned that Kai had a difficult time controlling her magic, which was slightly unusual. But the lightning dragoons persisted and eventually Kai learned several spells, including the powerful Ranarath summon. Her father, on the other hand, taught her to fight with the scimitar. She picked that up much more quickly and, with a little help from Syk as well, became fairly adept at it in no time. Wanting to share her fascination with learning to fight, Kai somewhat pushed Terra into learning. The ice dragoon took a liking to a bow and arrows and became good with them in no time. Slightly after this, Kai gained enough courage to confess to Syk that she had fallen in love with him. Afraid of what he would say, she was astonished to hear him say the same thing. While she was still young, the two decided to marry. They became engaged not long after. Akira, who also was in love with Syk, became infuriated by the news. Her attacks on the lightning dragoon became even more cruel, a few leading to actual conflicts. Unfortunately, Akira, armed with her katana, had much more training than Kai and always won. The fire dragoon never did manage to win over the wind dragoon, though. Despite this new interest, Kai still became tired of seeing the forest everyday of her life, especially when older dragoons told amazing stories about the outside world. Finally, her curiosity got the better of her. She was determined to see the outside world at least once. She only confided this to Terra, who was shocked. The ice dragoon abruptly reminded her that leaving the city was forbidden. If the other races realized dragoons still existed, their way of life could be put in danger. The lightning dragoon brushed the warning aside, arguing that she would only be gone a few hours and wouldn’t get herself caught. So, one night, with Terra bidding her a fearful good luck, Kai flew out of the city and out of the woods. Just seeing the end of Yana Forest was absolutely amazing. To see shorter plants such as shrubs and thin trees dot a grassy landscape was unbelievable. She found it hard to imagine that dragoon had decided to leave this beauty behind. Eventually, the dragoon came upon a village known as Kunia and saw that it was under attack by a wolf creature. Determined to be a hero and make a good impression, she swooped into the village and defeated the wolf, taking virtually no injuries. However, when she tried to talk to the humans, they started throwing rocks at her in fear, afraid that she meant them harm as well. Shocked by the reaction, Kai ran from the village, upset that the humans could think such a thing. All she wanted to do know was go back home. Unfortunately, that wasn’t as welcoming as she thought. As soon as Kai entered Grydon, a group of dragoons surrounded her and led her to the Council Hall. She was terrified, knowing she had been found out. The dragoon was brought before the Council, charged with the crime of leaving the city. Her trial and punishment was swift. She was to be banished from Grydon. After all, she had wanted to leave, hadn’t she? But the news was utter devastating. She had wanted to see the outside but not at the expense of never seeing her home. Kai couldn’t take back her actions, though. She given only an hour to gather any belongings she wanted. Nobody spoke to her, as she was considered to be an outsider now. Well, almost no one. Hiding away, Terra managed to get to Kai alone. There, the ice dragoon started crying and wanted to go with Kai. The older dragoon, of course, wouldn’t hear of it. So instead, Terra handed her a black cloak so that she would be able to hide the fact that she was a dragoon. Kai was truly thankful for the gift. Before she was to leave, the lightning dragoon searched for Syk to apologize for her foolishness but never did find the wind dragoon before being forced to leave. Her life outside of Grydon was bumpy, to say the least. She did what she could to make money, a concept she had only heard little about in stories. Most of the time, Kai had to live off of nature, which wasn’t too bad considering it simply a more primitive version of life in Grydon where the dragoon still lived off nature. She found that about the only thing she could do to earn money was kill various monsters that tormented the people. The dragoon found fairly steady work and managed to become somewhat accustom to the outside. It was on one of these missions that Kai stumbled upon a place known only as the Dome. In this place, she was brought under the tutelage of a powerful dragon summoner, Aurora the Ominae. The summoner put the dragoon through various trials in order to strengthen not only her fighting ability but her confidence in herself. Unfortunately, Aurora was called back to her own world before Kai’s training was complete. As a parting gift, the Ominae gave the dragoon a dragon scale she had acquired on a mission. With the scale’s power, Kai gained more control over her magic and was given the ability to use a spell known as Celestial Wings. With her teacher gone, Kai decided to explore more of the Dome and, more importantly, the other worlds it connected. While in training, the dragoon met another trainee known as Latio Scaptur. They met several times in the Dome and in other worlds. Eventually, Kai developed feelings for the foxfolk and vice versa. He became the first person Kai trusted outside of Grydon, besides her teacher. In one friendly skirmish with Latio, he became possessed by a curse he had been afflicted with. He attacked Kai in a bloodlust and eventually broke her scimitar in half. This released all the magic stored in the object and cause Kai to ascend into her Celestial Wings. She eventually managed to calm the foxfolk down, ending the battle. Not long after, the dragoon traveled to a place known as the Isle of Waterfalls that supposedly held great treasure. There, she found Raisen and a made it a replacement for her broken scimitar. Finally, while wandering around her home world of Runen’bayn, she was amazed to come across another dragoon. The two were wary around each other, Kai simply being rather frightened by the dark dragoon’s appearance which showed that she must have led an awful and violent life. The other dragoon, who introduced herself as Cila, was simply wary because she hadn’t been around another dragoon for years and last dragoon being her cruel father. However, Cila literally had to sit down when Kai introduced herself. After a bit of incoherent speaking, the dark dragoon proclaimed that she and Kai were sisters. The lightning dragoon was utterly unsure of how to take Cila, wondering if she had gotten something wrong. First off, Kai’s parents were an earth and lightning dragoon, neither one was dark. Second, why had she never even heard of having a sister. That was something parents should tell their daughter, right? Cila pressed onwards, however, saying that they were sisters and explaining why she had not been in Grydon; that their father had taken her away, leaving his wife and unborn child. Kai was still fairly skeptical, though. Finally, Cila decided a demonstration was needed. She took the lightning dragoon’s hand and told her to closer her eyes and think about summoning darkness. Incredibly skeptical, Kai nonetheless did what she was asked. After a few minutes, she was told to open. The dragoon did... and yelped. An orb of dark magic hovered lazily in her hand, awaiting use. That little event finally convinced Kai that Cila was telling the truth. The dark dragoon, despite her fiercesome appearance, almost broke into tears and resolved never to tell her younger sister out of her sight. Kai, however, was more amazed at the knowledge than emotionally affected. The two sisters spend as much time together as they could, exchanging stories and even practicing combat. Eventually, curious about the orb she had conjured that day, Kai asked Cila to teach her to use that aspect of magic. Generally, it is extremely difficult for dragoons to even notice another element in them, let alone use it. However, with her sister’s own magic as something of a guide, Kai eventually managed to use a slight amount of it. In return, she help Cila gain the ability to use a small amount of lightning magic. However, the time eventually came when the Dome called Kai back to its rooms. Cila, utterly determined not to lose her sister, followed and the Dome did allow the dark dragoon in, as well. Upon her return, Kai found she had a new teacher to follow. An elf by the name of Kira Greenthorn.
