Richard Bremington, State Alchemist

Name: Richard Bremington
Nickname/Title/Alias: The Adamant Alchemist
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Hair: Sandy Brown
Eyes: Blue
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 142 lbs.
Theme Song: Art of Breakin by Thousand Foot Krutch (Amv contains FMA spoilers)

Weapon: Any weapon he creates using alchemy or just happens to find in his vicinity.
Armor: Any armor he creates using alchemy or just happens to find in his vicinity.

Strength: Richard is a proficient weapons user, and is also stronger, faster, and has more endurance and jumping ability than most people. A master of rhetoric and conversation, the young man can make someone believe almost anything he wants them to and gain their trust in just a matter of minutes. Thinking much more often and faster than most people ever do, Richard uses logic and inferences to achieve his goals and find out things about his surroundings. An adept alchemist, Richard knows many transmutations, both for battle and non-combat situations. Charming and mysterious in public, Richard is good at catching or avoiding peoples’ attention (depending on what he wants in the situation), and is also known for transmuting his uniform into the clothes of commoners to avoid detection. A skilled survivor, he knows how to live in rough areas and knows how to find his way back to civilization should he get lost.
Weakness: Richard needs to draw transmutation circles to perform alchemy, but to do so he must use either chalk (and a flat surface) or a paper and pencil (which breaks very often, to the annoyance of Richard). Without that, he is almost useless as a fighter, except for his above-average physical abilities and weapons skills. He does not carry a casual weapon (such as a sword), for he rather forms his weapons using alchemy, which leaves him at a disadvantage against foes who carry many weapons on hand. His diamond-based alchemy requires him to use (and only use) the fine carbon powder he possesses in a pouch in his uniform. Should he run out of the powder or lose it in any way he cannot use his diamond-based alchemy as efficiently as before.
Magic/Skills: Alchemy- Being an alchemist, Richard knows in grand detail the powers of alchemy at his disposal. He has been seen using a wide range of transmutations, ranging from creating temporary armors to perform almost-magical feats such as turning a pile of sand into a hard-glass spear. However, his most famous use of alchemy is to create weapons made of diamond, which he achieves with the aid of fine carbon powder kept in light pouch in his uniform. However, to perform this alchemy Richard must make a transmutation circle, which he does with the aid of a stick of chalk kept in his pocket and even a paper and pencil (which he became famous for as well). Drawing circles ranging in complexity from a square in a circle to circles remarkably similar to Fruit of Life (a mystic Kabbalistic symbol) or the Pentagram, Richard has been known to perform alchemy on a whim and without restraint.

The alchemic light that is produced when Richard performs alchemy is usually yellow, due to his wider range of alchemic skills that does not focus on one specific part of alchemy. Richard incorporates certain strategies when using alchemy, such as keeping a collection of papers with transmutation circles on them, so he can use his abilities as quickly and efficiently as possible. The most common transmutation circle he uses is two overlapping perfect triangles (one slightly larger than the other) circumscribed within two circles, which he uses for general alchemy. Although his style is flashy and graceful at times, Richard can use daunting transmutations against powerful foes (which he rarely does even against those kind of opponents).

Appearance: Full-body picture of Richard.

Personality: If there’d be one phrase that could describe Richard fully it’d be the foolhardy yet witty pacifist. A peace-lover at heart, Richard is an expert at negotiations and rhetoric, especially when it comes to avoiding and conflict. Although he became a State Alchemist mainly for researching the one thing he loves (alchemy), the young man occasionally sees the battlefield, only to be shocked and shaken by the bloodshed he encounters. It’s partly a miracle Richard made it this far in life, but when combat is imminent he is usually attempts avoiding it or dealing a cheap blow to prevent a lethal fight from occurring. Seeing the safety of other more important than his own, Richard has been known to put himself on the line for his comrades and even strangers very often.

A benevolent soul, Richard is very caring and friendly, but when he is angered he can do or say things to those he cares for and will most often regret later. Always thinking he’s looking for truths no one’s ever cared for, he has a sense of pride in his quest for knowledge and wisdom of the world. Richard tries to gain the trust of every person he meets, including those he knows to be enemies, which seems to be one of his greatest tactics at avoiding a fight. Seeing war as a foolish attempt to solve problems between people and nations, the young alchemist always looks for peaceful resolutions before resorting to violence. A man who appreciates beauty and elegance, Richard has been occasionally seen flirting with young women (much to the chagrin of his female comrade Alexis), which usually gets him in trouble.

Biography: "I was born for alchemy, I live for alchemy, and I shall die for alchemy."

That was the motto of the prominent State Alchemist Douglas Bremington. However, that motto would change once he became a father, and it would become the motto for his son once he would grow up to be a State Alchemist as well. Richard Bremington was a very odd child to say the least, and his curiosity about the world would bring him to become fascianted with alchemy, the chief science of Amestris.

Growing up, Richard was put into a private school by his father, who wanted his son to be very intelligent and have a high-ranking job in the military. However, it seemed that Richard had other plans, but he wouldn't realize this till he realized he was gifted with the ability to use logic and reasoning many times more efficiently than most people. At age 7, Richard had deduced the laws of alchemy merely by watching how his father boiled water up for dinner once, and learned how to use alchemy to dye his hair a dark black. However, his intelligence would catch the attention of the Military, and he would become enrolled into a military academy at age 10. There, he learned the basics of alchemy (which he had discovered on his own in just a few months at age 8) and learned to use both hand for writing and drawing transmutation circles on a number of surfaces.

While at the academy, Richard met a young girl by the name of Alexis Harrison, who was the daughter of a well-known politician and commander. The two met, however, under extremely unlucky circumstances: Richard accidentally spilled water on the floor of the hallways, causing her to slip and get hurt. The young boy helped her up (and was injured himself by the girl's fist) and attempted to make it up to the girl. Alexis did not accept his apology, but would later become good friends with Richard and become amazed at his amazing abilities of deduction and logic.

When Richard was 13, he discovered the full potential of his abilities: he could use his logic and inference skills to find out information on his own, use his latent rhetoric and conversation skills to find out information from others, and use his social skills to blend in with crowds and go places without being detected. He kept these skills secret from those that knew him, and did a very good job of it. Although he was on serious watch by the government mainly for being a high-ranking State Alchemist’s son, Richard managed to keep most of his ‘secret’ life out of the view of others.

At age 15, Richard’s personality had changed drastically from that of the curious young boy to the witty and intelligent teenager. Against war, Richard had become a pacifist and refused to fight in any war Amestris wages; he would resent any training with weapons such as guns and would reject any offers to join the army’s ranks. Although many people couldn’t realize Richard as pacifist, some suspected him being frail and non-violent, that is, until they got on his bad side. Quickly becoming fonder of alchemy, Richard began to have some sort of obsession with the art, going to the point of spending hours at the Central Library reading books on advanced alchemy. This behavior, which was partly a pastime and partly a tactic Richard used to make people recommend him to become a State Alchemist like his father, was very effective in his plan to become what his father was.

Taking the test at age 16 and passing with relative ease, Richard had become what he dreamed of being years ago: a State Alchemist. His rank allowed him to have access to thousands of files of research on alchemy, which Richard used to make his alchemic abilities reach their fullest potential outside of the battlefield. Although he had abilities that would make him very powerful on the battlefield, Richard only requested from the Military to have a near-constant supply of fine and compressed pure carbon powder. Although no one understood why he requested such a material, Richard was granted what he wanted. In just a matter of five months, the young man had learned how to turn carbon into diamond with ease.

A month later, Richard discovered that Alexis had become a Military Officer, and they were placed on the same squad (which was done by request of Richard’s father). Their relationship started to drift towards a casual friendship, and during this time period Richard had turned into the cunning, mysterious, and charming young man with a brain as sharp as the diamond weapons he forged. Although he was popular for his charisma and flirty personality, Richard was also known for his benevolence and kindness towards strangers, even those who did not trust him due to his occupation. Once, when he was stationed in Ishbal, Richard found a group of dying and sick Ishbalans and used his alchemy to treat them and bring them back to full health.

When he turned 17, Richard delved deeper into alchemy, and discovered that they’re many different forms of alchemy that even State Alchemists didn’t recognize existed. These different forms focused on travel and displacement, and Richard focused his attention to a specific transmutation said to transport the user to a different world. After some more research and attempts to find ways to control such a transmutation, Richard performed the transmutation, which sent him to a world unlike his own. He realized that the world he came to was unaware of the full potential of alchemy, and he set out to try and discover more about the world he was in.

Richard’s quest into a brand new world would begin, and he would come into conflict with forces he never could’ve realized existed…
