Coldeye

Name: Its unpronounceable alien name roughly translates to ‘Coldeye.’
Age: Unknown to anyone (176)
Race: Translates to ‘all-knowing phantoms’ or ‘sipep’ (SY-pep)
Sex: None. It reproduces by splitting (approximately every 500 Years)
Eyes: Very dark, change colour when seeing in a different spectrum.
Weight: 90 lbs
Height: Seven feet tall, with a one-foot long neck.

Weapon: Two nearly unbreakable silver-coloured spikes.

Armor: It’s cloak is partially woven together with the metal used in the spikes, creating a nearly untearable fabric.

Strengths: Extremely quiet when it wants, almost too quiet for human ears to pick up. It can see in multiple spectrums: thermal, x-ray, and visible light.

Weaknesses: Due to it’s light weight, it can be tossed around easily. Warm places are hazardous to it’s health. If it’s blood temperature rises above 60 degrees it will rapidly decrease in energy and die within ten minutes.

Skills/Magic: Coldeye has the ability to communicate with others telepathically by heating and cooling different areas of their body. It also has a cold aura around it, which can slow down opponents in close range. The control over thermal energy gives it the ability to control the temperature, making it drop, but only by 60 degrees.

Personality: Coldeye keeps to itself, and will either avoid a fight, or kill the person it fights. It does not make friends, and follows the moto ‘non-interference is the prime directive.’ It is an all-around passive creature.

Appearance: It has a long, narrow face which points at the chin. The face is featureless save it’s two dark narrow eyes, which change colour depending on what spectrum it’s seeing in. It’s neck is about a foot long, and is almost always at a low slant. All along the top of it’s neck is decorated with dark blue tattoos, which creep up part-way up the back of it’s head. The rest of it’s body is covered with a neutral grey robe, covering a thin, flexible body, and two silver-coloured spikes, which when wielded point down. It’s back is covered with the sharp, intricate tattoos displayed on the neck, and creep down to it’s boney wrists. It’s hands each have five fingers, plus an apposable thumb, equaling six in total. It’s feet resemble talons, with three toes at the front, and two protruding from the back. It’s skin is a very pale sky blue (which to the normal eye seems to emit a glow, though it does not), it’s tattoos a few shades darker, to make them stand out. It’s eyes are nearly always staring directly ahead, as if concentrating on something in the distance, and while stationary, it seems like a statue.

History: All humans have goals. The scientists and researchers of Glaciterra XII had one particularly difficult goal, which was to reach absolute zero, the coldest temperature ever conceived. And what a better place to do it than an ice planet? They had read on their various devices and scanners a very cold area was present on this planet, and so they strapped on their bulky heat suits, and started a trek towards the super-cooled ‘splotch’ of pure, solid black on the digital map they carried with them. There were three, a female, a younger man, and an older male. It wasn’t very far, for the frozen planet was very small compared to Earth, but once there, the three found a cave, with odd grooves carved along the sides. They couldn’t discus what their next move would be, because that would waste oxygen and heat, so they all just went in, delving into a cold darkness.

Once in, they turned on special glow receptors which used their own energy to power themselves, but the artificial light only stretched a few feet ahead of the group, only enough to avoid tripping, or running into a wall. They walked down the circular tunnel, until reaching a large, perfectly circular room, ceiling held up by four very dull-looking pillars, either coated with, or made of, a shining silver substance, which, after being struck by a diamond-pointed chisel, wouldn’t scratch. The young male pulled out a small device, similar to today’s blackberries, or palm pilots, and started taking notes on it. The other two decided to explore the rim of the room, and once there, found odd statues. Their faces were blank, save two eyes which seemed to stare endlessly forward. They had long necks, which protruded from robed bodies. The female took out her chisel and pounded on part of the statue’s long robe, and heard the sound of ice cracking. She hit it again. Another piece of ice broke off, fully exposing a square inch of the cloak. It was dull grey in colour, and felt like a manufactured cloth. The two explorers, plus the one who was scanning the pillars, set to work chiseling the entire statue out from the negative fifty degree ice. Once they were done, they sampled various sections of it’s body, prodding them with the ends of highly sensitive thermometers. The older male poked what they believed to be it’s forehead, and a bright flash appeared in front of his eyes, as well as the others, and they were suddenly in a massive city, made of pure ice.

They could not move, or rather, someone else was in control of their bodies, as if they were watching a movie in a first person perspective. The first thing they saw were hundreds of biped creatures, not unlike the statue they examined beforehand. They all wore the exact same thing- grey hooded robes with seemingly no partings for arms. They all just walked doing their jobs, like robots, but with actual intelligence. Nothing seemed to excite them, and they seemed to communicate through some sort of telepathy, or by a very hard-to-see body language. Another flash in front of the researchers’ eyes lead to the same scene, but the whole thing was a lot gloomier. The creatures’ faceless heads were much droopier, and their once sky blue faces had a greyish tint. Their narrow eyes had a bored, tired look, and the scientists detected a decline in the social unity of the place. The creatures ‘conversed’ less frequently. Something very depressing must have happened, perhaps there was a war... Fwooosh! A small ball of what seemed to be fire blazed into a crowd, and exploded. The creatures not caught just kept walking, those who did accepted death. Whatever controlled the explorers’ bodies turned so they could see the attacker, or rather, group of attackers.

They looked like flames with limbs. They were biped, as well, and their heads were hidden in their fiery-looking coat of hair. These are what caused the depression in their city. Another flash, and a battle scene came before the scientists’ eyes. They were in the same chamber they were before these illusions started, but a giant flaming creature, like a lizard, with one of the attackers from before mounted on top, waited in the center for the statues, which were now obviously frozen corpses from this fight. A veil took place around the researchers’ eyes, and they could see the thermal spectrum. Black streams, emanating from the blue creatures’ six-fingered hands (which stuck out from the front of the cloak, through an unseen slit or opening) signified cold, and one of the ‘statues jumped at the creature, sending cold from all around it. A ‘black’ explosion occurred, and the fiery beast and it’s rider were frozen in place, the temperature of the ice probably approaching -200 degrees Celsius. But all the ‘statues’ were frozen as well, and another bright wink brought them back to reality. They looked around, and instantly noticed an eerie blue glow produced by the frozen corpses. They walked up to the beast frozen in the center, but didn’t make any contact with the ice, and found that there was an imprint of a biped creature punched into the frozen obelisk, and they all felt chills slither down their spines. Then, suddenly, the glass of their helmets shattered, and they were quickly consumed by the cold. They had revived Coldeye.

Thanks to Alek and his inspiring ‘Mysterious Being’ sketch.

Re: Coldeye

Hm...interesting character you have here. Just one problem with it that needs clearing up; Coldeye's main weakness appears to be his vulnerability to 40+ temperatures, but you say that he can control the temperature around him, effectively nullifying the weakness. Not good.

Thoughts?

Re: Coldeye

Erm... The 40 degree temperature nullifies the temperature control, not the other way around.

Re: Coldeye

That's not what it looks like. If Coldeye can control the temperature around him, then he can stop it ever reaching 40 degrees. So maybe you'd like to change it to reflect what it should be?

Re: Coldeye

Okay, I've edited it to show that any temperature above 60 degrees will kill it, because it can only decrease the air temperature by that much.

Re: Coldeye

Well, that was all I wanted you to change, so...
