Blackshot the Crossbowman
For those of you who want to know, Atlantis is Hyrule: at least, that's how I have it set up on the globe. And it's above water, too.
Name: Jack Prien [Nickname: Blackshot] Age: 15 Race: Human [Frenchman] Sex: Male Hair: Blonde, long in the front, short in the back Eyes: Blue Weight: 132 lb Height: 5 ft 7" Weapon: Blackshot wields the Sacred Arrows, arguably the most powerful arrows imaginable. They have no flashy power, like massive explosions, they have no awesome effect like the Light Arrow: quite contrary, their only power is being able to pierce anything. At all. They do no more damage than regular metal-tipped arrows, but they will pierce anything. Combined with Blackshot's steady hand, none are safe. He also wields stereotypical long daggers for close combat. Yeah, and a crossbow to shoot his arrows. Armor: Blackshot wears chainmail underneath his clothing. This chainmail is Sacred, and is completely average unless brought into contact with a sacred or holy weapon. Against a weapon like that, blows are completely nullified. Strengths: Blackshot is practically invincible against one wielding a sacred weapon, for his chainmail will nullify the blow absolutely. At a range, Blackshot's steady hand can kill anyone. He's also an excellent jumper. His powerful crossbow can fire the Sacred Arrows at a massive speed. The goddess' blood within him lets him hear the thoughts of sacred or evil beings. Those are his main strengths. Weaknesses: If someone without a sacred weapon gets close, Blackshot is weak. He's a mediocre runner, and is only above par with his dagger skill. He will never beat someone solely trained with a close-range weapon. His crossbow has an extensive loading time. Appearance: Blackshot has blonde hair. It is short on the top, the back, and the sides. In the front of his head, his hair splits into several dreadlocks, some reaching past his eyes. He can still see well, though. He wears a black collared shirt, split all the way down, connected by buttons. His buttons were all destroyed in combat. He wears torn black jeans. Underneath his clothing, he wears Sacred chainmail. His daggers are kept on the inside of his shirt, and his bow and quiver are on his back. He wears a skull necklace, made from the skull of a real bird. Cleaned, of course. Personality: Blackshot, after all his adventures, has learned that words can cause nothing but trouble. Hence, he is a stoic personality and rarely talks. He hates to fight, knowing that through a reckless attack, he condemned an entire kingdom, but he is not afraid to raise his bow if provoked. He originally was a good person, helping people every chance he got, but after his 2nd encounter with the goddesses, he cannot help others, for fear of his own life. Bio: Blackshot was not always called that. His original name was Jack Prien, and he was born to a nobleman in France, in the fourteenth century. His father was a pompous man, obsessed with getting Jack a good education, something that he loathed about him. Jack's mother, though, was a skilled archer, and respected his wishes. She took up archery as a hobby, but after 16 years, became an expert at the art. Jack first and foremost wanted to be a warrior, and the Lady Prien taught him archery from the day he turned 4...secretly, of course, as there was no telling what Sir Prien would do if he found out. They could not overrule Sir Prien forever, though. There was an excellent school in Hyrule, called Hylia Boarder, and the moment Jack turned 14, the nobleman chucked him onto the ship, and shipped him to Hyrule, oblivious to the tears of the Lady. He was not fully upset, though, for Lady Prien knew what a dangerous place Hyrule was, and had given him a suit of armor, which doubled as an object to remember her by. Hyrule was a prospering country. A great country. It was a monarchy, just like other countries, but it was unique. Unique in the sense that magic was widely accepted, while in other countries, it was condemned. Strangely enough, about two months ago, it stopped communicating with the outside world, particularly England, which it was on best terms with. Sir Prien cared not: he probably wouldn't have cared if evil monsters took over the land (that's a hint). All was going well, two weeks later. They were approaching the shore of Lake Hylia. From there, it was a week-long carriage drive to Hylia Boarder. Everything was peaceful, until they got within a mile of Hyrule. Instantly, the sky darkened, and creatures swam around underneath water swiftly. The navigator should have then seen that something was wrong, but he did not! Only did he realize that trouble was afoot when the underwater creatures surfaced, to reveal a hard, spiky shell. These creatures, Octoroks, surrounded the ship. The ship was promptly torn apart by Octorok rocks. By a stroke of good fortune, Jack was carried to shore by a tidal wave. He didn't see if anyone else made it. On shore, the young archer met a group of spear-wielding, pig-faced creatures, who looked delighted to see him. Jack began to think he could communicate with them...until, that is, they started swinging and stabbing at him. Terrified, Jack ran at his slow pace, which was thankfully faster than the Moblins. At last, dodging who-knows-how-many Moblins and skeleton creatures, called Stalfos, he finally made it to a town called Kakariko. There, mysterious stories were floating about, and several reached Jack's ear. First of all, apparently Hyrule was created by three Goddesses: Nayru of Water, Din of Fire, and Farore of Forest. That itself was confusing to the Frenchman, because he didn't believe in gods. But these people spoke of the Three as fact. But that wasn't the most perplexing part. Apparently, the king of a desert tribe, who was also a sorcerer, had created all the monsters. Imagine how confusing that must be! Also, some Hero, the man who defeated Ganon, the desert man, the first time came through, saying he spoke to the Goddesses. Jack was surprised they didn't deduce him as a lunatic. He said the Goddesses were going to flood Hyrule, because the evil was too great. He also said they had overheard him, and Din blasted him to an inch of his life. Jack wouldn't have believed anything, if the Hero hadn't dropped dead at his feet, scorched and burned. That was all Jack could bear: he quickly asked where the Goddesses would gather. They answered the Temple of Time, the Goddesses' favorite Temple. And Jack grabbed a horse and raced for the Temple. Into the drawbridge. Past the Redeads, and into the path that the zombies dared not walk. He passed several strange eye stones and looked up. A very beautiful woman floated above him, blue-haired and dressed all in that color. A shimmering energy field surrounded her, as it did two other ladies. "The Goddesses," Jack whispered, never having seen a heavenly body before. The three waved their arms. "Let Hyrule be free!" A huge downpour of rain followed. Jack was not stupid: he knew the outcome. "NO!" Losing his head, he desperately fired an arrow at the closest Goddess: Nayru. He silently cursed himself for such a reckless deed, then reassured himself with the saying "Nobody can kill a Goddess." And he wouldn't have, if the arrow had hit her straight. Instead, it passed through the energy field, powering it up to the point of insanity. Once it reached Nayru, she was slain after first contact. She screamed in agony. A drop of blood fell from the wound, hitting Jack's bowstring. The string glowed red, and to Jack's amazement, absorbed the blood. Another drop of blood fell through his shirt, touching the chainmail he wore. That absorbed Nayru's blood as well. Just then, a cry: "SISTER!" Two other goddesses flew like wind towards Nayru's limp body. A goddess with red hair, that Jack guessed to be Din, was the first to notice him. "You...did this. HOW?" She cried out and elevated, pointing her arm towards the archer. The other goddess, a green-haired one, named Farore, stared at him with sorrowful, empty eyes. She was not angry, but shocked. "You...killed an immortal. That makes...no...sense." Din's arms flashed with fire, spinning spheres of flames in her hands. "Now, mortal, you PAY!" Jack desperately nocked an arrow, all he had time to remember. Din just laughed humorlessly. "Ha. How do you hope to defeat a goddess with an arrow?" She stopped, almost waiting for the arrow. Jack released his arm and it flew, towards the Goddess. "Sister, no!" Farore jumped in at the last minute and tackled Din out of the way. "Sister, are you mad?" the Fire Goddess cried. Farore shook her head seriously. "Din, that bow was touched...by her blood." She could not bear to speak Nayru's name. "Sacred Arrow," Din breathed. She scowled at the mortal. "Just remember this. You'll put those arrows down eventually, and when you do, we'll be there." The two goddesses transformed into small, spinning triangles. As they shot off to the heavens, Din's voice echoed back: "You cannot escape from the Goddesses!" Jack, slowly thinking about the situation, realized that Din and Farore had little to no power over the seas, so Nayru must've mainly controlled the flooding. At that point, an awful idea occured to him: the Goddesses would not be able to revive Hyrule, with Nayru dead. With that, Jack knew he had condemned the world of Hyrule. And then he ran into the Temple of Time, to escape the water. Once it had flooded a great deal, he jumped out and grabbed the fin of a passing Gyorg, and let it carry him to New Hyrule, the Great Sea, all the while making a vow to help everyone he forced to suffer. And he did. The Great Sea was not exactly flourishing, but it was fairly well-doing. Apparently more people had taken the Hero's advice than he thought. Due to the lack of government, though, the Great Sea was a haven for crime. Jack decided he would have to change that, and he was true to his word. Jack spent the next year traveling around the Great Sea, using his bow and Sacred Arrows to help those in need. And there were plenty in need. During his travels, people throughout the many islands taught him how to use the daggers in combat (only 1 wise old man, though, so not a cliche), until he rose to the skill of the Hero (which is mediocrity, if you've played the games). People didn't know much about Jack: he wouldn't tell them much. They knew he had done a terrible deed with his arrows, but had no idea of the real deed he had done. Because he was such a good shot with the arrow, and black is a color associated mostly with dark deeds, the people of the Great Sea called him "Blackshot". Jack cherished this name, and "Blackshot" became somewhat of a superhero to the people. When something went wrong, children would say "It's okay, Blackshot'll come and make it all better!" And he almost always did. He had all but forgotten about the two Goddesses, Din and Farore, dogging his footsteps, waiting for a moment when he let his guard down. But they had not forgotten about him, and no one can hide from the Goddesses. Not even Blackshot. They struck when he was least expecting it, on a boat trip to Windfall Island. He had plotted a course, and was taking a delicate nap. The perfect opportunity for revenge. Farore appeared first, snatching his Sacred Bow from his back. Din, coming next, decided to have some fun. She grabbed his ship and flipped it over. Needless to say, Blackshot was awake. "Ack!" He spit out a mouthful of saltwater. Blackshot angrily climbed into his boat, shouting at the inconsiderate people who had knocked him into the sea. His voice froze when he saw the Goddesses, staring at him angrily. Din leered. "Well, are you ready for retribution?" Blackshot reached for his bow...only to realize it wasn't there. He then glanced at Farore, holding it. "That's right," Din said softly. "No arrows to save you now." For all the stoic bravery Blackshot had gained over the past year, he was shivering in his boots. Well, sandals. You get the picture. Farore moved forward. "Do not worry," she said softly. As if that was any comfort. "You have been a help to our people, and we shall not kill you. We shall simply curse you instead." Curse? But before Jack could ask, a blue wave of light was flying at his face. Although there was no visible damage, it seemed to penetrate his skin and enter his body. There was no real pain until a moment later. His chest burned! It felt like flames had entered his body and charred his heart. He cried out and fell onto his back. Farore stared at him coldly. "Allow yourself to be cursed by the one you so slaughtered." Din entered the conversation at this moment. "The Hylians will feel the death of the Goddess. They will feel the evil. They will never trust you." Now Farore moved back. "Din, your turn." For the first time, Blackshot spoke. "That's...not all?" Din scowled. "Of course not! Killing a Goddess is an unspeakable crime." With that, her hands crackled with electricity, and she fired a bolt of red lightning. This was not like the first curse: it stung and burned on first contact. Din grinned. "Yes! Take this!" She fired another. "Was that...the curse?" Blackshot muttered weakly. The Fire Goddess' eyes narrowed. "No." Farore sighed. "Sister, just curse him already." "Fine," Din said reluctantly, conjuring a wave of red energy. It felt identical to the first, pain coming moments later. "What...was that?" Farore answered. "Have you heard of the...Holy Aura?" "The what?" Farore looked surprised. "You've been living in Hyrule, and haven't heard of the Holy Aura? Hmm...well, it's a supernatural power that gives one a good feeling when they do a good deed. If they do something good enough, it may even give them a temporary power boost." "So, what does that have to do with the curse?" Blackshot whispered pathetically. Din grinned wickedly. "I'll answer that. The curse set off a poison in your body, activated by the Holy Aura. The more powerful the Aura is, the more poison is released. It could kill you." Blackshot winced. "So...that means..." "You are forever forbidden from ever doing a good deed," Farore answered. "Come, Sister, let us go." "Wait!" the archer called. "Can't you...help these people?" Farore turned on him, eyes cold and hard. "I wish I could," she said quietly. The remaining Goddesses took off to the heavens, leaving Blackshot lying on his back weakly, looking towards a bleak future. But in the sky, he heard a whisper, and a flash of blue. "I am...sorry." Blackshot knew who this was, and his conscience relaxed. Nayru was not dead, and the story could have a happy ending after all.

Re: Blackshot the Archer
Interesting. Not a bad char, all told. However, there are a few things you need to clear up first.
1) You list his age as 15, then say he was trained as an archer for 16 years after he turned 4. That would make him 20 (which, incidentally, I prefer - we have too many kids floating around already). 2) Under Weapons, you say Blackshot has the Sacred Arrows and a long knife. However, ha apparently has no bow to fire these Sacred Arrows with, meaning that he must somehow run up to people and poke them. Perhaps you wish to change this? 3) You don't explain how or where he got his armour. I'd like you to add that in somewhere in the bio, even if it's only a sentence or two. 4) There is one major problem with your bio - killing Nayru. Yes, it' imaginative, and yes, it's relatively original - but killing one of the three Goddesses? With an arrow? I don't think so. Injure, KO, seriously hurt - fine. But not kill. 5) This last one isn't really important, so you can ignore me if you want, but France in the 14th century didn't have expert archers, let alone women. It was England that knew how to use a bow properly. Anyways. The first four are importnat, but the fifth one isn't. Sort them out, and I can see this being approved.

Re: Blackshot the Archer
Alright, edited. And also:
A. If you'll read carefully, it was Jack's mother trained for 16 years. Nowhere does it say he was. B: Lady Prien was English, and disguised herself as a boy in the army, so she learned archery. Are you happy?

1) What kind of bow does Blackshot use? That means a lot more than you might think. It'll effect range, the power of his shots, how much damage he can do to an opponant...the entire battle, basically. 2) His age, and when he started training with a bow. Simply put, a four-year-old just plain isn't strong enough to pull the string on even the smallest bow. Besides this, if you pick a bow worth having (eg, longbow), then it takes over a decade to learn how to use it properly. The only exception is a crossbow, whoch you could probably pick up and master in a few months.

Re: Blackshot the Archer
Okay - that's better. When you post in the Character Thread, though, you may wish to remember to add the excessively long reload time of a crossbow to Weaknesses, and change him into a crossbowman instead of an archer.
*approves*
