Leonna Fallenstar

Leonna Fallenstar

Name: Leonna Fallenstar

Age: 21

Race: Astral Faerie

Gender: Female

Hair color/style: Blond/Braided Bun

Eyes: Unnaturally bright blue

Weight: 135 lbs.

Height: 5'6''

Theme Songs:

Haru no Omoide (sample)
Wild Child

Weapon:

(Crystal Staff): Leonna carries a crystal bo staff whose height is about 5'10'' (1.8288 m), reaching even higher than Leonna is tall. The staff appears to be made out of glass, flawlessly smooth and transparent. It has a small, oval shaped orb at the top made from the same substance as the rest of the staff, though it glows more brightly than the rest of it when magic is present. Encircled about this orb is a small edge of green tinted crystal.

Along the shaft of the staff, there are various gold-tinted rings that are embossed (carved so that they stick out) into the crystal, which essentially breaks the staff into thirds (though it doesn’t separate). At the bottom end of the staff, there is a perfectly globe shaped orb, made out of the same green tinted crystal at the top, with golden patterns traced about its surface.

Despite its fragile appearance, the crystal staff is made from a substance that rivals the hardness of diamonds. When hit against something hard or metallic, the staff makes a hollow bell-like sound, and sparks are often created upon impact. The staff does, however, react differently upon meeting different kinds of metals (thus creating strange sounds and sparks depending on the qualities of the substance).

One last feature of the staff is its unique sensitivity to the presence of magical energy. Often times in combat, when Leonna's energy tends to leak out, that energy is absorbed into the staff, causing it to glow (generally light colors of green or blue). It is also capable of becoming a medium through which Leonna can intensify her power by storing it inside of the staff. This ability also makes it fairly easy for the staff to absorb different kinds of magical energy, since it also reflects the energy manipulation and control that Leonna has. She carries this wherever she goes.

Armor: None

Strengths:

Before going into what Leonna is capable of, it is important to understand Leonna's biology. Her body is made of the same phsyical matter as a human, with one significant difference. Leonna's very cells are partly made out of astral energy; an energy, or flame, that can be extended outside of her body. This energy is created and fueled in the same way a human gains energy (eating, sleeping, etc.), but its true strength is fueled by external light and heat that is absorbed into the body.

(Heat): Leonna has an extremely high heat tolerance. To affect her in any negative way, temperatures would have to reach around 6,000K (nigh unto the temperature of the sun). Of course, her clothes aren't quite as heat resistant, so it would distract her to have to keep them from going up in flames.

(Light): Leonna is also very resistant to raidiance damage. In fact, light attacks generally serve to fuel her energy rather than damage her (because she absorbs light). However, this doesn't mean that Leonna can't be blinded like a normal person, and absorbed light attacks don't give her much energy.

(Movement): Leonna's training in her particular fighting style allows her to move with great agility and flexibility, as many of her attacks require a lot of acrobatic skill. While she can move fairly quickly, most of her speed comes from the way she attacks (meaning that she can strike rapidly by spinning her staff). Her ability to fly also gives her an advantage over those who are stuck on the ground, giving her greater speed than if she were to run.

(Range): Because Leonna fights with a weapon longer than she is tall, she will be able to out-range anyone with a typical sword, though her combat style is fairly limited when she uses the full extent of the length of her weapon (meaning she can only lunge and stab, rather than use the full momentum of her staff by spinning it). This can, however, become a weakness, as the staff is not meant to be used in close up combat.

(Knowledge): Leonna's extensive study of animals allows her to percieve certain weaknesses of others fairly quickly, such as a favored leg due to an injury, or weakness towards a certain element. She is also quick to understand the attacking pattern of an offender, allowing her to adjust her fighting style to effectively fight them.

(Poison/Resistance to Disease): One other strength is Leonna's resistance to poison. Her blood, a solidly white substance, mingles with her astral energy, causing it to consume and destroy MOST invasive toxins (while her muscle, bone and skin tissue is very immune, toxins that affect the mind are generally effective, though their duration is significantly shorter than it would be on a normal person). This strange quailty also makes Leonna's blood poisonous to other living creatures. Oddly enough, when fused with weapons during the forging process, it becomes an effective medium for magic (though Leonna is not aware of this).

Weaknesses:

While Leonna's astral energy is the major source of her strength, it is also her greatest weakness. Without her energy, Leonna is actually much weaker than a normal human (by this, I mean that if her energy is completely drained, not only is she unable to use her flame, but she is also phsyically much weaker, hardly able to stand). This is because astral energy is part of her very being, and without it, she is incomplete. It is also important to mention that while Leonna uses flame attacks, they do not require air to burn (as long as it is feeding off of the energy in Leonna's body). Once away from her body, however, they can be extinguished in that manner. Her flame also doesn't create any smoke until she lights something else on fire.

(Cold): Leonna has very little experience with cold climates. She is not prepared in the least to deal with very cold temperatures, and her body is especially vulnerable to it. Icy attacks cause extra damage, and if it lasts long enough, it can calm the astral energy inside of Leonna, effectively reducing the strength of her flame. Another downside is that Leonna will struggle to regain energy in cold climates, seeing as she is unable to absorb heat from them.

(Darkness): Leonna's attacks are easily absorbed with dark energy, and her own energy is not only blocked from recharging, but absorbed out of her in the presence of dark auras. While this absorbing effect varies depending on the strength of the aura, it can effectively block and reduce the power of Leonna's light. She will also struggle to regain energy in areas of pure darkness, seeing as she is unable to absorb light from them.

(Personality weakness): Leonna's a sucker for the weak and injured, and will hesitate before striking a deadly blow, giving her target an open shot. It is also difficult for her to fight in groups, as she is particularly cautious and shy, also unsure of her abilities. She will never kill another whom she believes is not a monster like herself, even if that means giving up her life.

(Combat): Leonna is efficently skilled with a quarterstaff, which she weilds like a rokushakubō. She fights using the martial art of Bōjutsu (martial art of using a staff), which she was taught from a shaman, Hemanias. This technique of fighting treats weapons as an extention of the body, using it much in the same way one would fight with simple melee. There is great power, speed, and range in the way that Leonna can spin her staff, and those accustomed to typical European sword fighting are in for a bit of a surprise.

Leonna has not, however mastered it, and when put against a true master of the sword, she is at a decided disadvantage. Because her weapon lacks a sharp blade, it is that much more difficult for her to kill enemies, though she is still perfectly capable of doing so. Also, without her staff, Leonna can still fight, but she is not as effective in hand to hand combat as she is with her staff; nor can she fight as well with a dagger or spear (though she is fairly proficient with both, due to the fact that she knows the basis of martial art and has used spears and knives in hunting).

(Magic): Another profound weakness is the pull other magic users have on her energy. If strong enough, magic users can actually use her energy for their own attacks. This is because Leonna's flame isn't some sort of magic spell, it is raw energy (or mana) that can be used by anyone who knows how to manipulate it.

(Stature): Because of her light frame, Leonna's physical attacks are fairly weak and will take a heavy toll from physical damage. She has the body of an acrobat, not a body builder, which tends to make her look fairly weak when compared to battle seasoned warriors.

Skills/Magic:

(Offensive): Leonna doesn't have any specific spells, she simply has the ability to create and manipulate fire and light (which is not to be confused with magic. Her power is entirely energy-based, which flows from her very body, so while it consumes her energy when she uses it, she doesn't use mana or anything of the sort. When manipulating light or fire that already exists, she uses very little of her own power, as it is her natural ability to control such things [but of course, the bigger the flame, the more energy she must expend to control it]).

Leonna's power generally manifests itself as balls of fire or rays of plasma (that generate from her hands) and can reach temperatures hot enough to boil metal (around 3134K). As with any power vs. energy attack, the more powerful Leonna's flame is, the more energy she must use to create and maintain it. On an energy scale of 100, a ray of plasma would require 10, a strong fireball 5, and flaming arms would be a 1 (and their duration can last just about as long as Leonna wants without extending a whole lot of energy, about 1 per hour. This is because her energy tends to leak out whether she uses flame or not, so fire on her body is just one small step above that).

(Defensive): The energy Leonna uses to create fire and light can also be used to create defensive barriers made of sheer energy (this ability looks like a wall of color and light, much like an aurora borealis). Depending on its strength (3,7,10 on energy scale for weak, normal and strong respectively), the barrier can withstand different strengths of attacks, both magical and physical. The energy used must be used again to maintain a barrier if it lasts longer than a minute. Dispelling these barriers requires no energy at all.

(Healing): Leonna can focus her energy into any living being to speed up its process of healing. The more energy she uses to do so, the faster its wounds repair themselves. However, this only works on open wounds, and doesn't work to cure disease (this is because Leonna's energy revitalizes the body to promote growth, whether it be the owner's tissue or the disease itself). Because Leonna is quite inexperienced with her healing power, the healed wounds will generally be sore for some time. The only exception to this is Leonna herself, whose body has been repairing itself like this from the day she was born.

(Energy Aura): While this is not particularly strong, Leonna has an aura of energy about her, which is the result of solar energy slowly and steadily being released from her body. It is an unconscious action, which simply occurs as Leonna's body functions as a medium for absorbing elemental energy and releasing it in a particular way. This soft aura affects living objects around her, gently boosting their magical abilities, and overall energy to a small, but noticeable extent. People who are around her for long periods of time will find that they move with more vigor, and with years of close association, discover that they mature faster to adulthood and age slower.

(Aura Sensing): Leonna has an enhanced sixth sense, which ties a little bit into her sense of smell as well. She can feel the power of another's essence without even being near them, and can catch a scent of their true essence (kind of like flavors of a personality).

(Flying): Leonna's wings can be forced in and out from her body because of their unique composition. While Leonna's entire body is infused with what is known as astral energy, her wings are made up almost entirely of pure astral energy, allowing her to manipulate them like she does energy (the more energy she pours into them, the stronger they become as well as brighter). Still, her wings still have physical matter in them, which causes them to be very vulnerable and sensitive to physical attacks. Conversely, her wings will better absorb magical energy, reducing the damage of any given magical attack that requires any kind of energy. This does not automatically annul the attack, it just helps take away some of the "bite" of a strong magical attack.

(Recharge): Leonna has a slightly higher stamina than a normal human, due to her astral energy. She doesn't need to sleep as long as one, either, needing only 4 uninterrupted hours of rest to regain her strength. However, the less light and heat she is exposed to, the more sleep she will need. The moment she uses her flame, her energy starts to recharge, though it will take a good two hours of sitting in sunlight to recharge at least half of her energy should she expend it. If there is no sunlight or heat present, her astral energy will recharge at a crawl, relying soley on the food and sleep that Leonna gets. Also, any activity Leonna does while her energy is recharging will slow the process, depending on the amount of energy it reqires.

(Survival): Leonna doesn't survive in wilderness, she thrives. As a person who has spent a good portion of their life living off of what a forest has to offer, she knows how to hunt and cook well, making for very unique food to live off of. She is entirely at home in the wilderness, which turns into a weakness when she sees big cities and everything that goes on in them.

Along with repairing and making her own clothes, Leonna is also skilled in carving wood into brooches and charms. Though most of her time is taken up with traveling alone in unpaved roads and the daily activities required to survive in the wilderness, she still makes a concious effort towards recording and cataloging plants, animals, land terrain, and various other information that she comes upon during her travels. When staying in an area for a good few days, she also has the ability to dry and preserve herbs and food, and make many of the natural healing remedies she's so fond of.

(Herbal Concoctions): Leonna's extensive knowledge in herbology enables her to make effective herbal salves, pastes, and teas to aid with disease and soothe pain. This is not to be confused with healing potions; Leonna's medicines are not quick fixers that can cure disease instantly or immediately eliminate pain. While they can effectively soothe pain and reduce the effect of diseases, this can take hours, days, or even weeks to take effect by the doseages Leonna uses. These herbs also have multiple effects, and if the subject is allergic to them, they can do more damage than help. I have outlined the herbs she uses and the effect and appearances they have below.

Birch:
Delicate silver bark
Addresses skin conditions. Used as a birch bark paste. The birch is boiled and mashed into a paste by a pestle. This is then applied to sores, abrasions and inflammations. This has to be repeated daily to have an obvious effect within a week.

Chamomile:
Flower with big yellow centers with small white petals
Used in tea to relieve congestion brought on by allergies
Pale, sweet tea, often taken with honey. Cooled teabags relieve skin and eye irritations.

Cayenne:
Red peppers
Powder is added to juice or food, or applied to skin in cream.
Desensitises skin to pain and aids with food poisoning

Willow Bark:
White bark
Bark used to treat pain, particularly headaches, fevers, and colds. It takes longer than asprin to have an effect, but its effect lasts longer.

Passionflower:
Big white flower used in tea to help with anxiety and insomia. Very relaxing
Bitter taste, serve cold with fruit juice (color of fruit?)

Marshmallow Root:
Purple Flower
Crushed leaves soothe cough, crushed flower good for ointments.
Pale yellow tea, doesn't have much of a taste (mawkish)

Aloe:
Green Cactus plant
Used to treat burns

St. John's Wort (just called plain "wort" by Leonna, seeing as St. John probably didn't exisit in Hyrule):
Yellow wildflower
Herbal oil reduces pain, prevents infection, and reduces inflamation

Ginger:
Green plant with root
Tea helps reduce congestion
Golden brown, very spicy, peppery taste

Calendula:
Golden Marigold flower
Flower and leaves used in teas and creams to reduce skin irritations
Golden color, not sweet.

Spearmint:
Green leaves with blossoms at the end of the stems
Leaves used in flavorful tea. Can help soothe an upset stomach and heartburn.
Minty flavor, tea is a light brown color.

Other Equipment:

(Traveling bag): Leonna carries around a medium sized bag that looks very much like a large leather purse. She wears it on her side with its leather strap crossing diagonally across her chest. It carries many of the objects a traveller uses, which are listed below. It was also charmed by the village shaman, which enables the bag to carry a good amount of items without being heavy or bulky.

*Small knife-a plain metal knife used for cutting meat or whittling wood
*Herb pouches-samples of spices and herbs collected from Bren, which are commonly used for cooking or healing. (Spices: Cloves, Oregano, Cumin seed, Thyme Leaves, Bay Leaves, Basil Leaves, honey, garlic, oil, salt, and Mustard seeds. Also Cornmeal). Leonna keeps these in pouches and bottles marked with colored thread to identify them quickly.
*A roll of woolen gauze
*Traveling log-Written in the Elvish language(because Leonna is less fluent in reading and writing English), it contains the subjects of Leonna's studies. Contained are detailed sketches and information about plants, animals, constellations, and other such things. The most significant, however, is the detailed description of the ruins that exsist in the forest. Leonna believes they may have a connection to wherever she came from.
*Dried fruit-a small collection of dried fruit used to keep hunger at bay
*Metal glass-used to cook liquid items or simply to drink from. Also has a cheese cloth.
*Small metal deep pan-used for cooking, stirring, and other various things.
*Clay pestle and mortar-used to grind plants into pastes and powder
*Water pouch-used to keep dehydration at bay
*Comb-used to keep snarls at bay
*Peach soap-Soap made from herbs (especially peaches) for healthy skin and hair. Makes Leonna smell like a mixture of peaches and honeysuckle.
*Quill and ink-to write in travel log
*Thread and needle
*Twine

Appearance:

(Physical Features): Leonna's eyes are perhaps her most stunning feature. They are light blue, the color of a cloudless sky, with no apparent texture. Her oval shaped eyes are full of a distant sadness, which makes them appear dreamlike at a glance. The blue of her irises appear to softly glow, a feature which becomes more apparent in the dark. Her gaze is extremely soft, making it difficult to intimidate people even when she is angry (though some say her eyes appear to glow even more brightly when she is upset). Her voice also has this same quality, being unintentionally soft and smooth. The stiff language that she uses makes it difficult for her to use strong and offensive language, but her adept way of picking up weaknesses makes her able to sting where it hurts when it comes to words.

The features of Leonna's face are very soft, leaving no sharp angular shapes on her nose and chin. Her red lips are full but somewhat thin, rarely ever turning up in a smile. Her cheekbones are set fairly high, making her light peach skin smooth, though not tight. Her light blonde hair is usually pulled back from her face in a curly or braided bun, though she also leaves a few strands out to curl around her face. Her eyebrows are slightly darker than her hair and are nicely shaped around her eyes, intensifying the expressions on her face.

Leonna has the figure of an athlete, with lean muscles on her arms and legs. She has a small waist, though not obviously so, which gives her figure a nice curve. Though somewhat thin, Leonna has a full body, which appears quite soft despite her athletic appearance.

(Normal Clothing): The clothes that Leonna wears are homemade, but not tacky in appearance. Her bodice is made from homespun wool, but its weave isn't bulky. The sleeves barely come down far enough to cover her shoulders, and the length of the shirt goes down to her waist. The back part of her collar extends much farther down than her front, exposing the top part of her back (so that she can extend her wings out without tearing her clothes) She also wears a pleated blue skirt that slants at the bottom, reaching from the top of her knees to the top edge of her boots (which reach almost to the knees). Between her shirt and skirt, Leonna wears a small brown sash, which wraps snugly around her waist.

Leonna's boots are made from sturdy brown leather, and fit snugly from her heels up to the near top of her calves. Often times, Leonna also wears a long gray cloak that is tied around her collar and extends down to her heels. She also wears a large, purse-like leather pack that rests on her hip with its strap reaching diagonally across her chest.

(Frock): Leonna also carries a spare dress in the event that her normal clothes fall into disrepair. Because it is her best clothing and a memento of her mother, who made the dress, she rarely wears it. It works much better to show it rather than tell, so here's a picture of the dress. It's a pastel green halter top dress with large white flower patterns on it, made from very soft, homespun cotton fabric. It has no sleeves, but has wide (2 inch) straps that tie around to the back of the neck in a bow. It's fairly tight at the chest and waist, but the skirt flares out, reaching about to the knees.

Though somewhat scandalous given the time period (medieval), the design itself isn't considered to be very strange in the culture of Bren. Because their culture is much more liberal than typical European culture, women in Bren tend to wear more "radical" clothing for the time, but not quite to the extreme of clothing nowadays. This includes skirts that go down to the knees and short to no sleeves, but necklines and skirt lengths tend to be somewhat reserved (in other words, not "flashy").

(Wings): When Leonna releases her wings, they look much like dragonfly wings, though they have a slightly rounder, wider shape. They don't appear to be very substantial and are entirely transparent, but are easy to see because they glow orange with all of the astral energy within them. The delicate viens of these wings glow even brighter than the rest of the wing, outlining them beautifully as intricate patterns of thin lines.

Personality:

As Leonna has lived her life mostly in solitude, she is very stiff in social situations. She doesn't come off as timid or shy, rather, she appears to be more withdrawn and quiet. Her presence carries a dreamlike sadness, being soft, sweet, and entirely sad at the same time. While Leonna tries to appear somewhat tough and unapproachable, this presence is obvious to those who have good insight into other people.

Leonna also has a deep love and respect for nature. She loves animals, and also has a tendency to draw them to her. Leonna is entirely at home whenever she is surrounded by an untamed wilderness, content to observe and enjoy the things around her. Her knowledge of nature and ancient ruins is quite extensive, making her very intelligent in the ways of nature and ancient history. In contrast, cities are an entirely foreign environment to her, and she will often find herself confused and frustrated in such places.

With her love of nature, Leonna also has a love for all life. She will go out of her way to help those who suffer, always wanting to alleviate pain where she sees it. However, she often hesitates to do this, afraid that she will harm or scare people in her attempts to help them. Still, Leonna values almost all life above her own, and has no fear of putting her life in danger to do anything to help another.

Leonna's quiet presence does more than make it difficult to intimidate. She is easy to overlook despite her mysterious aura, content to remain silently sitting in a corner to be seen by no one. Her movement is always graceful and quiet, disturbing as little around her as possible.

Being a person of little notice, Leonna rarely goes on the offensive, and will stolidly ignore insults thrown against her. It takes great force to move her to anger, but a singular touch will shock her into confusion and vulnerability. She is also a natural follower, willing to do whatever a person she trusts tells her to.

As far as right and wrong go, Leonna cares little about laws and statutes. She values life and believes in alleviating suffering wherever it is found, regardless of whether it breaks laws or not.

Leonna's trust is easy to gain and hard to shake off; a kind word or gesture almost immediately gains her respect. While she can see through blatant lies and tricks, it is quite easy for others to take advantage of her unsuspecting personality. She believes that no one is entirely evil, and even when hurt, Leonna rarely bears grudges or anger against another person.

While Leonna is typically an honest and moral person, she won't hesitate to tell a little white lie here and there to conceal her identity and past. While she believes people easily, she rarely trusts them with herself, always worrying that her presence will endanger them. For this particular reason, she avoids the notion of friendship as much as she can.

Likes:

(Sweet Things): Leonna has a definite sweet tooth. She can't get enough of honey and fruit, and anything with a good amount of sugar in it makes her giddy. However, really condensed sugar, like candy, is too painful for her to eat.

(Cold Milk): Leonna doesn't drink fine wine and alcohol due to her moral ideas and the powerful effect on her body. She much prefers milk, which does a lot to soothe her nerves, and cold milk is an extra treat.

(Stories): Though Leonna hates a lot of noise and loud conversation, her curiosity is insatiable. While she is generally too shy to ask many, if any questions, she has a very sensitive ear for information she has not heard before. Her patience for listening is enormous, and if excited enough, she has no problem finding many, many questions to ask.

(Music): Leonna loves music. While she isn't experienced in any form of dance, and she can't play any instruments, she enjoys singing, which she does rather well. She also has a great respect for those talented musically.

Dislikes:

(Violence): Any violence, no matter how common or flamboyant, severely bothers her. There are few better ways to earn her disregard than to attack another person for selfish or "entertaining" reasons.

(Crowds): Leonna struggles in loud or chaotic groups of people, hardly able to stay oriented enough to even walk through them. Loud noises have a tendency to shock and annoy her to a great extent.

(Bitter Things): Leonna can't stand vinegar, or anything just as (or more) bitter. That's part of the reason why her cooking is notoriously sweet.

Biography (brief, see 'Demon Eyes' in chara fiction for full):

Leonna does not know where she was born, what family she has, or even what kind of being she is. She was a baby when her adoptive parents (Minerva and Erevan) found her, lying unconcious in the remains of a smouldering forest. Rumor has it that she fell from the sky, since the people of a nearby village saw a comet hit the forest on the night Leonna was found. It was this rumor that gave her her name, Leonna (named after Leo, the constellation) Fallenstar. Her staff was found along with her, leading many to believe that the strange object was also native to the same place Leonna came from.

Leonna lived her life being treated differently than other people. Her strange eyes, and discovery of her magic led to quiet discrimination in her village, ostrisizing her from her own parents. She was allowed to live in the village, but people were forbidden to speak to her, lest they be cursed.

Leonna took on the same beliefs that the villagers had, which was worship of a Hyrulian goddess, Farore. She became familiar with the village priest, Hemanias, who didn't seem to mind her strange abilities. It was he that taught her how to use a quarterstaff, how to hone in on her magic abilities. He also instilled in her the value of life and its connection to magic.

Unfortunately, even Hemanias began to suffer because of her differences, and after a particularly grisly event involving the villagers and giant spiders, she then decided to leave in order to protect Hemanias, as well as the other villagers from herself. It was then that Leonna went on a journey to find the meaning of her life, to see if there were indeed others like her...

History:

"Endless is the energy of the universe, as are its emissaries"
-Elven Scholar Nimdhor Sharondalan

When the world was created by the gods, some of its matter mixed with an astral flame, giving birth to some of the very first beings, Astral Faeries. They are living creatures infused with the energy of a star, capable of manipulating the energy that is part of them. It is said that they live in a world created in the same manner they were— it twas' a meeting of matter and force.

The realm of the astral faeries is rumored to exist in a dimension that occasionally touches the world, creating the phenomenon known as Aurora Borealis when it collides. It is a realm of sheer energy, where light and heat never fade. Supposedly, its close position to the earth protects it by absorbing the otherwise deadly energy streaming from other realms.

If one were to look into the realm itself, one would see an endless abyss of fluctuating color, changing as energy rushes from one end of it to the other. There are a few solid islands that exist in the abyss, floating crystal mountains where astral faeries live. Their cities are made up entirely of intricately cut crystal, formed by concentrated energy that pressurized enough to become solid. They get their nourishment from the radiance of the world around them, though it is said that they can survive on earthly matter, too, since they are made up of both energy and matter. Their lifespan is as infinite as the energy they absorb, and without it, they would wither and die as life does without mana (the magical force that creates and sustains life).

The role of these strange creatures is much like that of the atmosphere of the earth. Their very bodies function to absorb and filter incoming radiation, giving it off as energies of different kinds, generally flame. Astral Faeries, however, have been known to give off various other kinds of elements, including light, electricity, life energy, and even solid elements such as water and earth (in their case, crystal formation). The rarest ability of all is forming such energy radiation into dark energy.

In absorbing and regulating the flow of energy within the realm, these beings keep the energies that form the mana of other worlds from going out of control. When failures in this occur, multiple realms feel the effects of a mana rush, or sudden mana destruction.

While little is known about these etherial beings, there has in fact been contact between these fae creatures and humans. Only one has ever been recorded to exist on the earth, whose experience was recorded by mountain dwelling elves almost one thousand years ago. Its arrival was heralded by the appearance of the Aurora Borealis in the northern sky, from which a meteor was said to have fallen from. Upon investigation, the elves found that it was no meteor at all, but a fairy-like creature whose fall from the sky had been cushioned with a wall of raw force.

The creature found was described as having "bright, vivid eyes which give off an incandescent gold," whose clothes were made from an unknown fabric that was silk-like, though its luster was far too bright and variated with different "swirls" of color. Its wings were described to look like "those of a dragonfly's", and to the elves' surpise, it spoke a language very similiar to elvish.

According to their record, the Elven tribe was able to communicate with it, and found that the creature had no understanding of where it was. It described its own land as "much brighter and full," having much more energy than that of the "lower realm," which it assumed was the earth it stood upon. Though the creature spoke of its own realm as one might a typical human kingdom, in which there is an established form of government and cultural life, it was never able to communicate fully what its world was. This was due in large part to the creature's powerful flame.

In fact, this powerful flame was said to cover most of the creature's body, and began to grow as it spoke to the elves. Beginning to fear for their own lives and that of the forest, they urged the creature to stop, but not understanding, the creature did nothing to quench its flame. In the end, the elves were forced to kill it, driving metal into its flesh before it could defend itself. Its flame immediately went out, but no body remained. What was found instead was a white, crystal-like substance which the elves called star dust. Fearing that it might be used again to create flame, the substance was gathered into a small bottle and buried into the earth. Where this "star dust" is now, no historians know, for the ancient elves eventually left the area, the only trace of their existence being the stone remains of their city.
