Ralis 2.0
Updating my good ol' character Ralis because I used to like using him and don't wanna let him be forgotten.
Name: Ralis Alexander Lerin Age: He has failed to ever say his actual age, though it's easy to tell he looks around 20-22 years old. Race: Human Sex: Male Hair: His hair used to be a dark brown hair, goes to the back of the neck, almost shoulder length, now it's turned a snowy white, due to the adverse reactions of the darkness, Ralis will never answer why if he's asked. Eyes: His eyes used to be a dark brown, but now they're pitch black, again, due to the dark's corruption on his appearance. Sometimes however, his eyes color to an emerald green, due to an adverse affect of the darkness' corruption over his physical form. Weight: 157 lbs Height: 5'11" Weapons: Ralis disposed of his old weapon, he now carries several shafts of metal and several blades. Combining these seemingly useless tools, he can infuse his darkness powers into the metal and have them join in certain patterns. His favorites are: The Severer: A wicked, two handed sword that is sharp on one side of the blade and serrated on the other side. The blade is covered with seething darkness, empowered with all of Ralis' power, making it unable to be scratched or broken. Touching the blade with bare hands sends the tendrils of darkness at the impostor, it rejects anyone except Ralis. The Slicer: A cruel looking polearm with a long, metallic shaft and two blades at each end, both serrated and saw-like. The darkness crawls over the weapon's shaft as it does with the sword. The Spiker: Lastly, a metallic hilt with a blade at the end and a long chain, empowered with the darkness, attached at the end of a chain is the blade of the sword, the serrated saw part. Double-Barreled Revolver: Ralis also carries a rather large revolver that looks more like a sawed-off shotgun. The revolver is quite heavy but he can manage to aim and fire the weapon easily with one hand. The butt of the firearm is a dark black metallic material while the rest of the weapon seems to made of a silvery metallic metal. Armor: Ralis still carries his old black and hooded traveling cloth, with chainmail woven into the interior of the cloak. He wears and a dark black leather tunic and dark black pants with dark black boots and black iron gauntlets over his hands, he wears no actual armor other than that, he likes being agile and fast on his feet. To make up for not having any real armor, he conjures dense blankets of shadow and empowers his clothes, making his clothes incredibly hard to rip, tear, pierce, set aflame, etc. However, blunt weapons and such do a lot more than anything else and light magic heavily reduces the shadows. Regular attacks weaken his 'armor' with each hit and he has to conjure more darkness, which uses a lot of energy. Strengths: Ralis was trained very well in swordfighting, sparring, and is experienced with or without a blade in his possession. Used to be a common thief, and is trained to sneak around, steal. Using his own shadow, Ralis can turn invisible in dark places and his shadow can touch and hold real objects. Ralis can see, feel, hear, taste, and smell things in shadow form and cannot be hurt, he can converse with others in this form if they see him. Weakness: Ralis's armor is very lightweight, but still protective. However, direct hits from heavy weapons won't be shielded very well. When Ralis creates a shadow object or person, light will cause it to die and vaporize. Ralis cannot control trees, nature, light, or earth through magic. In shadow form, Ralis can be seen when a form of light and can been heard still. His real body is vunerable and unprotected when Ralis is controlling his shadow. Skills/Magic: Darkness: Ralis has a dark personality at some times and his powers are controlled by his emotions. When feeling sad, or depressed, anxious, nervous, or frightened, he gains full control over dark magic. Shadow Puppetry: Ralis can control all shadows around him for numerous reasons, to grab opponents, use shadows as a barrier or control a certain shadow, but concentrated light will vaporize it. He can manipulate shadows easily, making them bend or form into tendrils, hands, just about anything if he has enough shadows around. Shadow Storm: Ralis can manipulate the darkness all around and send it toward an opponent or a group of opponents. The shadows encircle them overheard and lashes down razor-sharp tendrils to strike down at anyone within. This technique requires a lot of darkness to be around the area, otherwise it would take a great amount of concentration to use. Army of the Dark: Ralis enjoys using this technique to baffle and confuse his opponents long enough for him to gain an advantage, or get a clear shot, whatever he needs. Mustering the shadows from around him, Ralis materializes several living clones of himself, made of darkness. The clones can only do one thing at a time, whether it be running forward, sending their right fist at an opponent, etc. Ralis doesn't waste his time or energy commanding them all (the number of clones depends on how much energy he decides to use) so he usually sends them in to confuse the opponents. The clones revert back into shadows when being struck with anything, a physical blow, light, fire, bullets, etc. Since they aren't used for anything other than a distraction, Ralis does not mind. Objects: Ralis can materialize objects from darkness or shadows. Small things such as arrows or daggers take small amounts of energy and concentration and can be made almost instantly. Larger objects such as shields, swords, or armor take a longer amount of time, energy, and concentration. Ralis can link his sword to whatever shadow weapon he creates and by using his sword, he can wield the shadow weapon as well since the two are linked. Ralis can use shadows to cover his body and they can protect small blows before vaporizing. People: Ralis can only materialize another living shadow when another person is near. He morphs their shadow into a 3 dimensional being and Ralis controls it. Ralis is extremely vulnerable while controlling it, because it is an empty vessel with his mind, but in the shadow Ralis cannot be harmed even in the light. Ralis can camouflage himself only at night, but direct light will reveal him. He can dominate another being's shadow and control it fully without transferring his mind into it, however. While it still makes him vulnerable as he needs one free hand to control the living shadow. Emotional: When Ralis is happy or optimistic (very rarely) he can wield the water element. Water: Materialize and shape water. Can be used as a projectile and freeze others in place. Ralis will need a larger body of water if he wishes to use more dangerous attacks. Ice Barrage: With a substantial amount of water, can morph water into large shards of ice to either use as a shield around himself or projectiles to an opponent. Water Vortex: With enough water can summon large waves against more than one enemy which knocks them backwards and then encircle around them in a vortex which won't do much damage, but it's more meant for keeping them occupied while Ralis uses something else. Fire: When Ralis is vengeful, angry, hurt, et cetera, he can wield fire magic. The angrier he is, the stronger and more potent his attacks will become. Blaze: A simple ball of flame, torrent of fire or shower of sparks. A small attack which doesn't take too much energy or time to use, and can be used easily in succession. Ralis mainly does this to simply mess with his opponents. Explosion: Ralis can muster his energy and ignite both his hands in flame, creating a rather large fireball in between them. This technique is a bit harder than the first and the fireball moves slower because of its greater size, but once it reaches its target or hits something before that, it will burst, spewing fire in all directions as it combusts. Inferno: When the caster is angry enough, his entire body will be coated in fire, heating whatever is close enough to him. At this stage, his fire becomes much hotter and more powerful, but at a great drawback. The longer he is in this form, the more energy it saps from him. Waves of flame and explosions of fire follow him as he throws his hands in the desired direction. Personality: Ralis has a very fragile psyche and does not control his emotions easily. His mind has been corrupted by the intense corruption of the darkness and it causes him to slip between attitudes at the drop of a hat. This however benefits him as the slight insanity allows him to more freely uses all of his powers to their fullest potential. Still, he cannot easily control just which emotion takes over him in certain situations. When Ralis seems happy, he usually laughs about things he sees, making small jokes to himself or out loud. He tends to march about and sight-sees, glancing back and forth, enjoying his surroundings. He takes full advantage of his power over water in this emotion. He will muster anything liquid nearby and have it make numerous forms of his choosing, merely as a form of entertainment. Around other people, he likes to converse with them, wants to know who they are, what they are doing at that same place he is, etc. When Ralis is angry or annoyed, he tends to heat up. Literally. His body temperature rockets up and makes the around around him steam slightly. If he's walking in water, it might bubble. In snow, it might melt, etc. He is usually more introverted in this mindset and won't go out of his way to speak to anyone. If they catch him in a conversation, he will most likely try to get out of it by lying or plain insulting them. Biography: Ralis is no stranger to grief and misfortune. His father was a demented man who spent most of his days locked upstairs in his study, fascinated about his experiments in the darkness magic. He would discover new ways to manipulate, new ways to bend it, new ways to harness the darkness for his own personal gain. Ralis' mother, was a reclusive shut-in because of what her husband was doing. The people of the city of New Haven despised Ralis' family for the sins of his father. Most of the city folk did nothing for the family. No one visited, no one cared to check on them. They were truly afraid to go near them in public. Ralis never quite understood this, especially as a child. Still though, Ralis' father had not done anything that granted them a reason to lawfully remove the family from the city. Until one day, when Ralis was near his tenth birthday. Ralis' father had murdered a man who was snooping around their estate. Fearful of what the town would do if they found out, he took the body and disposed of it. Apparently someone had seen him in the act. The townsfolk were in an uproar about this and became hostile towards the family. However, since there was no actual proof, the city officials could do nothing except begin a fruitless investigation. Ralis was often bullied and belittled by his young peers and one day he was even attacked by some of the other children. Angered by how his only son was treated with such disdain, his father began to teach the boy his powers and methods for "protective purposes." His mother, however didn't like this and continuously attempted to dissuade her husband from going through with this. After a series of heated arguments, he compromised with her and she helped train Ralis with fire and water, trying to help balance his teachings. Years passed as Ralis continued his training with his parents, soon nearing his thirteenth birthday. The soon-to-be teenager was wandering the streets on his way home one day when he was confronted with two much large and older boys. Boys with knives. They wanted to prove themselves to their peers, by carving their names into Ralis' skin. However, as soon as they brought their hands down to cut him... A tendril of darkness wrapped around each of their wrists in a vice grip, squeezing intensely which made the young men drop their weapons. Ralis made their wrists twist more and more until he heard sickening cracks and pops. The two screamed in agony and Ralis simply silenced them, having two more tendrils wrap around their necks and heads, hearing another set of popping sounds, followed by a pair of loud thumps. The two were on the ground, limp and cold. Terrified at what he had just done and the other people who actually saw him commit the act, Ralis sprinted straight home and told his father what happened. Ralis' father laughed, awaiting this moment. He ordered his son and his wife into the basement, and to barricade it. They did as they were told, wondering what was going to happen. There were sounds of hundreds of footstep, angry shouting, and his father. Those angry voices suddenly turned to shrieks. Loud thumps were heard against the floor and the walls. Wood was being splintered, skin was being torn. Every now and then, there was a splatter of liquid against the floor. After all of the noises stopped, Ralis began to clear the way out of the basement, emerging in the remains of their home. Furniture was scorched and broken, walls had gaping holes in them, the floor was littered with bodies of the city-folk. His father was not there. After a few minutes of rummaging around throughout the house, there was no sign of him. None of the corpses were him, he had simply vanished. At the sight of such carnage in her only sanctuary in this world, his mother trembled and cried, reaching down to grab one of the knives brought by the mob. Just a few moments later, it had pierced her heart. Ralis turned around, seeing what she was about to do. He froze in terror and disbelief. Before he broke out of his stupor, it was too late. She soon fell to the floor, joining the assortment of other city folk as a corpse, in their ranks now. Ralis trembled with several feelings all at once. Tears formed in his eyes, just as his hands clenched into fists. Running up to his father's precious study, he kicked the door open. Of course his father was nowhere to be found. Ralis decided to get the next best thing. Tendrils of shadow ripped down bookshelves, just as jets of flame ignited the pages of every tome, every log and book within the study. This was all his fault. He started everything that ruined Ralis' life, and he wanted his revenge. He began to tear down the bookshelves and kicked the desk over with his enraged strength. He blinked, seeing something shiny fall out of a box that was perched atop on of the bookshelves. Upon further inspection, it was revealed as a beautifully crafted revolver, wielding two barrels instead of one. The silver metal elegantly curved down to an ebony handle. Interesting. Ralis found the box which it fell from and nabbed the holster, putting it on over his hip, sheathing the firearm within. As he turned to leave the smoldering study, he glanced up at his father's coat rack. A black, hooded cloak was hanging off one of the pegs of the rack. Ralis reached up and snatched it free, donning the cloak. It was a little big for him now, but it helped conceal him, pulling the hood down over his head. Ralis made his way outside, crawling out of the wrecked doorway that led into his house. Ralis marched down the steps that led to the rest of the city, looking back at the home once more. He grit his teeth, turning around to face the building. With a flick of his wrist, another jet of flame hurtled towards the building and set the roof aflame. Soon it would be nothing. The young man made his way out of the city, wandering. He wouldn't stop until he found his father and exacted his revenge.
