The Time Djinn
Name: Tempus
Age: As old as time itself.
Race: Time djinni
Sex: Appears to be female
Hair: Long, dark and silky. It reaches down to her back. Turns white on occasion.
Eyes: Dark, dark purple, often mistaken for black. Sometimes shine ice blue, always when her hair changes color.
Weight: 80 lbs
Height: 4’11
Weapon: Golden pocket watch.
Second Weapon: Small, silver colored dagger, made from an unknown material.
Armour:
Strengths: Lithe and energetic. Can control the inner clock of her enemies. She can jump great distances, levitate and “travel” through time.
Weakness: She’s very inexperienced with battle, as well as having little to no defense to sharp weapons. She has to rely on her time manipulation skills and she’s still learning, which means that things don’t always work out the way she thought they would.
Skills/Magic: Tempus can control the flow of time. Or, at least, she would be able to, had she been a little bit older. She’s a fairly young Time Djinn and her powers are limited. She can only control the inner clock of one, or maybe two, beings at a time. Anything else stays unaffected and the manipulation is temporary. She’s learning to control the flow of time, as well as the weaves that holds it together. So far, Tempus possesses the following techniques.
Fast Forward – Speeds up the inner clock of her victim, who ages rapidly. Effect is temporary and cannot kill, unless the person was old and close to death to begin with.
Limits - Lasts for a maximum of 120 seconds, depending on how much energy she spends on the spell. The effects of her time tampering takes a little longer to wear off, and can take up to several hours before the victim is fully restored.
Reverse – Same as Fast Forward, just backwards. Her victim grows younger and younger. If Tempus is able to maintain the spell, the person exposed to it can become a newborn again. Temporary.
Limits - Spell can only be active for 120 seconds at a time. Cannot undo a person's existence. The effects of the spell takes up to 3 hours to fully wear off.
Side effects - Can force victim to go through puberty again.
Slow Motion – Tempus slows down the inner clock of her victim. For him, it will appear that the world suddenly moves faster, while in reality it is he who moves very, very slow.
Limits - Must be within a range of 20 meters for the spell to work. Can only last up to five minutes at a time.
Halt – Stops the victim’s inner clock entirely, causing them to completely freeze wherever they are for a very limited amount of time (60 seconds).
Time Warp – Using her dagger, Tempus rips open a hole in the weave of time. She can then make a jump through time. She isn’t used to using the technique in battle and at much she can jump a few minutes back or forth in time, often less than that. A defensive spell.
Personality: If time is a river, then Tempus is its currents. As old as she really is, she’s also very childish. She loves playing with people, changing about their inner clocks, but gets angry when they think too seriously of it and starts waving around their pointy swords. Tempus doesn’t like that at all. She can be calm and serious as well, when the need for it arises. Unfortunately, more often than not, her attempts at being serene ends in her bursting out in giggles. She’s sweet to those that treat her nicely and she likes gaining new friends, even though she seldom has the time to be with them. Tempus can’t even hold a grudge for that long, although while she’s angry, you’d do best to stay away.
Appearance: Tempus has been known to take on several appearances. Some has encountered her in the shape of an old lady, others has seen her as a child, no more than six years of age. Her most common appearance is that of a young girl who is just entering her teen age years. She wears a long, sleeveless white dress that can never be stained, except by her own blood. A belt of woven gold around her waist and on her left side hangs the sheath where her dagger resides when not used. Around her neck hangs her golden pocket watch on a golden chain. Her long, dark hair flows down on her back and is usually kept away from her face with a thin headband of silver. Tempus isn’t very tall, but she is slender and quite beautiful, even for her age. Her pale skin brings out the darkness of her eyes, which can pierce the soul of anyone and there are many who have lost themselves in those pools of shadowed mystery.
History:
This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel,
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down
- JRR Tolkien
As is the case with all Time Djinn, Tempus was born the daughter of Chronos. How exactly this procedure went by is shrouded in mystery. How the Father of Time is able to make offspring is a question still considered one of the greatest mysteries of (excuse the bad joke) all time. But what we do know is that for an eternity, Tempus was asleep. Nesting in a large cavern at the end of the worlds, she dreamt of everything that happened.
And so, one day, a group of adventurers in a faraway land set out on a journey to slay a dragon, save a princess and hopefully gain some treasure in the process. They didn’t succeed. The princess was killed during battle, the dragon set the whole kingdom on fire and the treasure turned out to be a Happy Meal paper crown and a coupon for free soap with every purchase. The legend does not reveal what you had to buy in order to make use of this gracious offer.
Of course, the adventurers had done more then receive this legendary crown and coupon. A Time Djinn had to give its life in the process, and thus, Tempus was awakened in order to maintain the balance.
"Oh, well" the adventurers said, with a shrug. "At least we killed some time."
