| Carcaroth v.2 CARCAROTH ![]() Name: Carcaroth Age: 24 Race: Human Sex: Male Hair: His hair is colored raven-black. He likes to keep it mid-long, with his fringe hanging a little to the right and hiding his eyes a bit, thus leaving his left eye more exposed than his right eye. Otherwise his hair falls down neatly over his forehead, neck and a little over his ears. Eyes: He has clear, sharp light-blue colored eyes. At most times they're well hidden under his hair. They are a little larger than average. Weight: 165 pounds. Height: 5'9'' Weapon: Carcaroth's main weapon is a shortsword called Calaim that he keeps sheathed at his side in a leather scabbard with iron plating. The blade is colored blood-red and is quite sharp. The hilt is covered in leather, and the guard is covered in gold. The sword is quite special in that it negates all magical energy that the blade comes in contact with. Its magic-negating powers are even strong enough to keep Carcaroth himself from using any magic, making it a double-edged weapon. In addition to the sword, Carca also keeps two long curved daggers with him, hidden underneath his cloak. Fighting style: Carcaroth makes full use of whatever weapon he has in his hand, and he is always certain to utilize every part of his body to combat his enemy. He is most fluent with a longsword and prefers to use it with one hand, with which he adapts an oftentimes defensive stance that allows him to counter very quickly against most basic, weak attacks. Although he now uses a shortsword instead, this strategy remains the same. Much of Carca's offensive strategy lies in waiting for an opening in the opponent's defense and swiftly countering, usually exhibiting a lot of patience in doing so. Carca relies on mental peace and harmony when combating his enemies, which makes Kerel a liability. Because of the demon, Carca's spirit becomes unbalanced and his concentration suffers for it, which directly affects his effectiveness in combat. As time has passed, the demon has eventually begun to grow on Carcaroth and he no longer lets himself get bothered so easily while in combat. Strengths: Carcaroth is very fast and decisive in his movements. Because of his calculating nature and his keen eye for details, he is exceptionally capable in discerning his enemy's moves and patterns. He is a master swordsman, being able to swing his weapon with deadly accuracy. In addition to all this, he is also surprisingly strong physically despite his less-than-impressive physique, being able to swing a longsword with one hand without any trouble at all. After acquiring Calaim he has also proven to be a greater match against magic-users, who he had a lot of trouble fighting with previously. Weaknesses: Carcaroth is not efficient without a blade in his hands, and is not skilled with magic at all (in fact he is entirely unable to use it without Kerel's help, and with Calaim in hand it's no longer possible to use magic even with the demon's help). Kerel's influence often throws him out of focus both in and outside of combat, something that results in a messier style of fighting that lacks precision and thought, as well as a lack of focus at all other times. Because he completely lacks a capable armor, he has to rely on not getting hit too often, which becomes a definite weakness against faster enemies that outpace him and get past his defense. Skills/Magic: Carcaroth, being rather inexperienced, is not very skilled in anything beyond his swordplay (which is formidable for one of his age), so most of the tricks come from Kerel, his demon counterpart. Carcaroth has shown in more recent times to be able to channel the demon's magic without having to let the demon take control of his body, but this requires immense focus and energy. However, he is only able to do this when he is not wielding Calaim, as the sword interrupts and negates all magic that is channeled through his body. As such, he has to rely on his sword skills more than ever. Appearance: Carcaroth tends to wear dark, simple garbs that are not too distinguishing. Colors vary from black to grey, and otherwise dark brown. He wears a long dark cloak outside his standard clothings, which include a thin torso, a shirt underneath the torso, pants and leather boots. His skin is very pale and smooth to touch, and his build is rather thin. He looks tired at most times with a hazy look in his eyes, as though he is always in deep thought. Some scars cross his upper body, namely his chest, stomach and right arm. There is also a smaller, nearly unnoticable scar on his forehead. Because he travels a lot, Carcaroth always seems to smell of the outsides. Particularly trees. Here is a general idea of what Carcaroth would look like to onlookers. Personality: Carcaroth is silent, but at the same time he is also well-mannered and respectful. He dislikes conflicts and negative emotions, but he also becomes easily agitated and irritated. He is calculating and perceptive; at almost all times he will stay alert of his surroundings. He appears to be rather apathetic when it comes to talking to others or faced with a tough situation, but the moment he becomes confused or frightened he drops his cold and cool facade, whereupon he will become nervous and frustrated. He keeps his sentences short and clear when speaking with his peers. His voice is by default quiet and dark, however it carries very well on those rare occasions when he shouts. Deep down he is a benevolent and sympathetic person who can't stand the idea of innocent people suffering, which is why he never hesitates to help out someone in need. However he will always act as though he doesn't have a choice and that he thinks of it as a chore. Few things can anger Carcaroth to the point where he will be furious - not even insulting his family (such as his late parents) will enrage him to such a point, which Kerel has tried to do many times. He is, however, very protective of his brothers and feels naturally obliged to take care of them. When it comes to love and friendship, Carca is a withdrawn man. He limits himself greatly when conversing with others, especially if it's with females around his own age. Upon being confronted with an awkward situation he will simply pretend to ignore all of it instead of blushing and looking away. He has a small group of friends who all live in his old hometown, however due to his travelling and withdrawn personality he does not make any new ones very often. Carcaroth is an understanding person - that is, at least he tries to be. He is very curious by nature, something that may annoy other people greatly when he wants to help them. He is not afraid of asking personal questions that may seem rather inappropriate. Likes: The outdoors, moments when Kerel isn't bugging him. Dislikes: Moments when Kerel is bugging him, Kerel in general. Fears: Being vulnerable, both to enemies and to Kerel. Virtues: Helpful, protective, selfless. Vices: Borderline self-destructive, doubtful of himself, indecisive, lets his guard down too easily. Biography: Carcaroth grew up in a small harbor town with his two younger brothers and his father, who served in the army for a time. Their mother died after the last child was born, when Carcaroth was five years old. Carca was then trained to become a swordsman by his father in the following years through excercise and hard work. His real training began when he was strong enough to lift a sword, which was at an age of eleven years old. After a few long years of hard training, Carcaroth's father was suddenly killed at an open street. The killer ran off immediately and managed to escape the town in the blink of an eye. Carcaroth, blinded by anger and lust for revenge, left his two brothers at home to pursue his father's murderer and avenge his terrible loss. Carcaroth came upon an abandoned village close to a forest during his hunt for his father's killer. He decided to search it, as it seemed to be an ideal place to hide in. While entering one of the houses cautiously, he was suddenly attacked from behind by something - someone - that gave off a high-pitched, screeching sound. Carcaroth, though startled, put up as much of a fight as he could with his honed swordskills. However his enemy was cunning and used the shadows well, and before much time had passed Carcaroth's sword was forced out of his hand. He struggled against his assailant with everything he got, but he suddenly turned out to be severely outnumbered as the enemy gained reinforcements by the douzens. The screeching creatures bound him up and carried him with them, and he was helpless to do anything at all. As the moon cast its light upon them, Carcaroth saw that these were not entirely human. Their faces were twisted and their hands looked like claws. They resembled animals more than humans. The strange creatures dragged Carcaroth with them through the dark forest. Some time passed - he was not sure how long it was - before they came to a halt, as they had reached a clearing in the woods. Carcaroth could spot other creatures like the ones who had captured him, watching them from between the trees with glowing eyes, and in the middle of the clearing was a great bonfire that illuminated the area. Before it stood a great throne made of rock. There, Carcaroth was put before a larger creature that he could only conclude was their chief. This large, ugly being was even nastier than its henchmen, sitting on the throne while clutching its crooked staff. It gazed upon Carca's subdued figure for a split second before grunting loudly, waving a little with its staff. The other creatures cried out together in unison, almost excitedly. The way they looked at Carcaroth told him that it was not good news for him at all. He tried to struggle but it was useless. The creatures heaved his tied-up body onto a large stone table beyond the bonfire. He could almost see Death standing between the monsters, eagerly awaiting the moment when it could claim his soul, as it had claimed his mother's and father's. And his two brothers would be all on their own... It was then that Carcaroth heard a voice in his head, like a whisper that had been there for a long time without him noticing it. I can help you. He did not know who it was, but he was too frightened to think over it twice. He asked: Who are you? I am a friend. I can help you. All you have to do, is to agree to what I say. Carcaroth knew already then that there was something wrong about this new "ally". But his will to live was stronger than his suspicion. Alright, alright. What do you want? You must share your body with me. Let me use you as a host. Carcaroth wanted to deny, but the executioner then lifted his axe. Panic filled his head and clouded his judgement. In his desperation, he saw only one option. Alright! Fine! Just get me outta here! Carcaroth was suddenly unable to move. Someone - something - had taken over his body and was in full command of every limb. It wasn't even his body any longer. A demon - large and terrifying - was now the one lying at the stone-table. He ripped the ropes away, laughing in a most spiteful way. He grabbed the axe from the shocked executioner and used it to plow through the crowd of raging monsters that assaulted him. Carcaroth could merely watch through his own eyes as his hands killed monster after monster, listening through his own ears as a terrifying laughter escaped through his own mouth. As he walked towards the chieftain who had ordered his sacrification, he could see the fear in the chieftain's eyes. What have I done? thought Carcaroth to himself in horror. KEREL Name: Kerel. Age: Over 400 years old. Race: Demon. Sex: Male. Hair: Kerel's hair is spiky and dark red while being a little shorter than Carca's hair. It's kept slicked backwards, exposing Kerel's forehead fully. Eyes: Kerel's eyes are either yellow or red, depending on whether he is using fire magic or not. When he is, his eyes will turn brightly red in color to create a flaming effect. Weight: 202 lbs Height: 6'2'' Weapon: Kerel is capable of summoning a weapon of his choice for use in battle. He prefers to use double-bladed swords, usually a specific one with a red handle that he can break up into two separate blades for convenience. Alternately he uses a flaming whip, perhaps as a token of his sadistic sense of humor and absolute gleefulness of having someone at his mercy. He is known to use a pair of flame-infused blades when he feels like playing around, and these happen to be the same blades that make up his preferred weapon of choice, the double-bladed sword. In recent times he has however been forced to wield Calaim, the magic-negating shortsword. Fighting style: Kerel in his full-power demonic form is an advocate of strength and might, using every opportunity he gets to deal as much damage as possible to his enemies, creating devastating results on the surroundings in the process. It is a very easy fighting-style to read, but due to Kerel's excessive amount of strength, stamina and speed, it is not nearly as easy to counter it. In his demonic form he is also able to master highly advanced forms of fire magic, creating infernoes and firestorms in battle at a whim to distract his foes. He is so accustomed to fire magic that it makes up an integral part of his fighting style, particularly during ranged combat. In Carcaroth's more fragile and weak form, however, Kerel prefers smooth and silent moves that surprise his foes. Because of his limitations, Kerel also prefers to make battles against more powerful enemies short and snappy, relying on speed and pointed attacks more than anything else. This style of fighting is much more unnatural to Kerel who is very used to unleashing huge amounts of power with every strike he makes, as well as using fire magic. In Carcaroth's body these are not viable options. After acquiring Calaim, magic has been entirely evicted from Kerel's arsenal and he is thus far more limited than usual. Strengths: Being very powerful, even for a demon, Kerel is superior in every physical way to his human counterpart as well as most other mortals. He masters close combat through his double-bladed sword and ranged combat with his powerful fire magic. His stamina is, when compared to a mortal's, near limitless, and when compared to other demons' he is still awfully sturdy. Because of this, he is capable of taking more damage than most others of his kin without collapsing or even slowing down. He is also capable of using much more power as a result of his high stamina and will very rarely collapse from exhaustion, though this is much more common while he is inhabiting Carcaroth's body. He is far from one of the fastest of his kin but his speed is still more than remarkable when compared to a normal human being's. Kerel's greatest strength is without a doubt his unique seal techniques, which are capable to take out enemies that are even stronger than Kerel himself. The most useful aspect of Kerel from Carcaroth's standpoint is his great amount of experience and knowledge when it comes to the rest of the world. Through his former mortal host, Kerel learned many things about the mortal world in which Carcaroth resides in and so he has become highly knowledgable, though a few things still remain vague for him. His many years of combat-experience allows him to counter most enemy tactics and predict their movements. Weaknesses: Kerel is a demon, which makes him incapable of moving in the world of mortals without a proper mortal host that can carry him. Because of Carcaroth's body, which is not optimally trained nor fit to house such energies, and because Carcaroth is a mortal human, Kerel is severly limited in how much power he can unleash at a time. Overpowering himself while in Carcaroth's body will cause the body to deteriorate from the strain, resulting in the death of both the host and the demon. Similarly to Carca, he is not as deadly without a sword in his hands in close combat but he has more alternate options than the human does (most notably his magic, as well as greater physical strength). His seal magic, the most powerful weapon in his entire arsenal, are powerful exactly because they are extremely risky. Not only do they require a lot of time to set up, they also need to be done exactly perfect to work. Trying to activate an imperfect seal will always cause catastrophic results, based on the power of the attempted seal. The stronger the seal, the more powerful the backlash becomes. Even successful seals carry a risk as they require immense amounts of energy to activate, and some seals also require the caster to keep feeding it energy to keep it activated over periods of time. Even Kerel, at his full power in his demonic form, will not be able to keep such a seal open for more than twenty seconds. As the seals need blood, it is also common for the caster to use his own blood and thus, massive amounts of bloodloss is a common problem with seal casters. Skills/Magic: The demon is capable of lending Carca power or special demonic abilities, like enhanced senses or much greater endurance, and at times he is even able to conjure powerful spells while using the human boy's body. Kerel's magic is heavily fire oriented as well as, predictably, some unholy magic. In addition to fire magic he also knows seal magic, which is the most powerful weapon in Kerel's entire arsenal and the most dangerous aspect of his entire person. However, Carca is not yet strong enough to provide a body that can tolerate use of such powerful magic, and the levels of energy needed to use seal magic far surpass the amount that the body can handle at a time. Kerel is familiar with all kinds of magic, having seen a lot of it himself. He is capable of growing large, bat-like wings from his back that he uses to fly, though he rarely ever does. Seal magic: Kerel is the only of his kin to master seal techniques, and as such he is also one of the strongest demons (Archdemons being even stronger). Seal magic is a form for blood magic, where the user draws use from his own blood in order to use powerful spells. Every technique requires Kerel to draw a different symbol in his palm (or on a wall, or the ground) with his blood. Stronger seals tend to require more symbols. This demonic seal magic serves the sole purpose of dealing damage, and as such Kerel has learned to adapt his techniques into combat. The seals that Kerel uses have proven to be so powerful that he has been forbidden to use them against other demons, or in the presence of other demons; the risk of a backlash is always high. Fire magic: Kerel is a master of the fire element, something he sometimes regrets because he means it makes him "a really stereotypical demon". Nonetheless, it's his most used form for magic, because he can draw massive use from the several fiery techniques he knows. Most of his skills within fire magic involves manipulating fire into taking shapes or forms he wishes, like sending a beam of fire at a target that is far away, or form a shield of fire around him. All form for magic has been cut off from Kerel as long as Carcaroth wields Calaim. However, Kerel is still able to take control of Carca's body and speak with him from his mind. Appearance: He wears a dark-red plate armor with large, thick shoulderpads and a long, black cape to go along with it. Dark tattoos cover his body underneath the armor, appearing as glowing light-blue symbols on his skin. When taking his own shape with Carca's body he becomes much taller and broader in size, and a lot more muscular. His face attains much sharper features, namely his eyes and eyebrows. His jaw is also broader and stronger. His hair also becomes red and slicked back, just as his demon form. Here is a general idea of what Kerel would look like in his real form to onlookers, without armor. Personality: Kerel's personality depends on his mood, more than anything. When angered, he will become furiously aggressive and cruel. However, at most other times he shows an apathetic, sarcastic and sadistic side. He delights in the pain of others, particularly Carcaroth, and he will never let an ideal opportunity to cause bloodshed go to waste. He comes off as arrogant, but he never overestimates himself. He has no morals or rules except one - if you wield a weapon and you cannot defend yourself, you do not deserve to live. Kerel despises weakness, which causes him to instantly look down on the entire human race. Kerel delights in combat, loving the thrill of battle almost as much as killing his opponents. He likes to toy with his foe at times, but most often he will simply go straight for the kill. He does not seem to honor any kind of "demon code", nor does he believe in things like honor, respect or glory. He presents his beliefs as simply as he can - in death you can achieve nothing. Therefore, Kerel goes through extreme lengths to make sure that he does not die. Despite thinking of humans as wastes of space and thinking little of their levels of power, Kerel has several times shown interest in certain human figures, most of them female. Most of the times his interest is purely superficial and based on looks, but he will also become interested if the person has an unnatural high level of power, or if they show rather ruthless or vicious tendencies. When Kerel becomes interested in someone, he is much less likely to kill them - though it shouldn't be ruled out entirely. Likes: Bloodshed, a decent challenge, bugging Carcaroth, sarcasm. Dislikes: Carcaroth in general, humanity as a whole, weakness. Fears: Death, losing his power. Virtues: Confidence, iron will, swiftly decisive. Vices: Arrogant, viciously cruel, easily angered, emotionally driven, quick to judge. Biography: Kerel's life prior to his encounter with Carcaroth is a mystery at this point. All that is known is that he was once bound to a human long before he met Carcaroth, but who this human was and what happened to the bond between demon and host is unknown. It was also revealed at one point that at the beginning of his life, Kerel - like all demons - went through a ritual which rendered his soul incapable of ever passing on, which means that upon his death he will simply vanish from any form for existence. He describes it as the "longest, most boring nap you'll ever have". ------------------------------------------ RPs that Carcaroth has appeared in, chronologically: Training (dead) Forgotten Shelves (finished) Power pushed to its limit (finished) Shrine of Mirrors (dead) In White (ongoing) False Knight (minor appearance, finished) Fragile Bonds (ongoing) Character Fiction: Shut Up |
