Eye Color: Blue Hair Color/Style: Dark blue, usually pulled back in a ponytail with a few bangs hanging loose.
General Appearance: Her most noticeable features are her massive height, her large leathery wings, her gray stony and somewhat bluish skin, her muscular tale and the horns that protrude from the front of her skull that swoop backwards. If you are able to look past these inhuman features, however, you’d find she’s quite beautiful, or maybe a better descriptive, cute. She has large, bright eyes and an almost button nose and small mouth, her cheeks still showing a bit of baby fat. She has a well toned and athletic build, yet still attractively thin, her high weight being a result of her muscle and her rocklike skin. Despite her large stature and beast like features, she has a very kind and innocent look to her which matches her personality. If one can get past her draconic appearance they would find that she is oddly approachable.
Her wings have three small claws at the end and 2 ‘fingers’ that connect the leather membrane that form her wings. She has a ten foot wingspan, but because of her large weight, she mostly uses them to glide. She has dragon like feet with three claws and a high ankle, always standing on her toes. As most gargoyles find clothes cumbersome, pointless when their skin acts as armor, and a nuisance for flying, Rylia only wears slit skirt held up by a leather belt and a small sleeveless shirt.
You can occasionally find her squatted down, pulling off the quadruped look, as she runs fastest that way and it’s just as natural to her as walking on two legs as it is four. Although with her long stay with the humans she’s gotten more into the habit of being a biped
Weapon: Tooth and claw. Mostly just a brawler, but with her massive strength, she might pull up a street lamp and start beating people with it.
Armor: Her rock hard skin provides enough protection against swords and arrows. It takes an extremely fast and durable arrow to pierce her skin, or a massive force to break her. She’s equally resistant to most magic’s, able to withstand 200 degrees for an extended period, and is equally suited for the extreme cold. Most primitive and moderate forms of void magic will have a reduced effect on her as well.
Carried Possessions: She carries a thick clothe carrying bag that she keeps a few sets of clothes, a large hooded cloak in case she feels like concealing her wings and horns, plus whatever rations she might have on her. Other then that, she lives off the earth just fine.
Skills: Being a gargoyle, she is innately capable of holding a solid position for days as to mimic a statue. She can go 2 days without eating before she starts to feel fatigue. She can see very well in the dark. Like stated before, her stone-like skin provides great protection. She can also glide at a near constant height for a few hours at a time.
Battle Strengths: The gargoyles of her race are massive creatures, the males standing at 7 to 8 feet and with the strength to rip men in two. While Rylia doesn’t hold that same power, she is formidable for a female, being bread into a strong family. She has good reflexes and she’s very acrobatic. She can jump 30 feet high from standing and can glide much further. She has the strength to toss a small car and her punches can be devastating, able to lift up to two tuns with ease. Rylia can reach a running speed of 60mph for a short time and can run at a constant speed of 45 for a few hours, having a very high stamina. She has claws on her hands and feet as well as a muscular tail to give her plenty of natural weapons.
Battle Weaknesses: While she is quick and battle hardened, a speedier foe would have the upper hand, or a more intelligent opponent could outsmart her. She’s not all that skilled in the form of martial arts and someone could use her weight against her. As far as her attack power, she relies mostly on her claws and tail, which means a long range fighter could wear her down if they could keep their distance. While she can use her wings as a shield against weaker attacks, they are the most vulnerable part of her, and will cause her great pain if they are ripped or torn. She’s also not that great of a swimmer due to her weight, but with the help of her wings she’d be able to tread water for a few hours. Regardless she’s still afraid of open water.
While she doesn’t have many exploitable weaknesses, she doesn’t have the best attack power either and will mostly stand as a tank against her opponents.
Personality: Given her animalistic upbringing and the time she spent in the gladiator rings, Rylia does have a wild side to her and can become extremely ruthless, but with her long stay with a human family, you’d never guess she was a fighter unless you saw her in action. Rylia is good natured optimist who prefers the company of friends. She likes a challenge and will show off her natural abilities when acceptable. She has a mischievous side to her and can be more of a tomboy at times. She’s not too trusting, however, and it takes a while before she’ll warm up to people.
Since she has returned to her old tribe, she has lost most of her enthusiasm. Rylia has tried to revert back to her gargoyle instincts so she might be better accepted by her clan mates, but longs for the same friendship she experienced living with the humans. Now that she’s seen both worlds she finds her own race to be a bunch of uncaring beast. She would prefer to live with humans again if they didn’t fear her so much. Understandably, she’s conflicted.
Likes: Good company, a warm meal, a good challenge. Dislikes: Not fitting in to her tribe because she’s too human, and not fitting in with humans because of her appearance. Fears: Finding herself alone in life Virtues: She is a good natured person. Honest. Care free Vices: She has a wild side, ruthless. She likes to show off her abilities. Somewhat self centered.
History: Rylia grew up in the proud tribe of Grimstone that made its nest in the Dragon Mountains. Her people were a fearsome bunch that did mostly as they pleased. In the past they had warmongering and proud rulers that would try to extend their territory or just raid human settlements for supplies and treasure or for sport. Being that there are much more humans then gargoyles, however, this caused the humans to unite and at one point they almost wiped out all the gargoyles in the Grimstone tribe.
It was a few years after this that Rylia was born. Her early life consisted of wrestling with her younger siblings, gathering and was a decent hunter for a female. The youth of the Grimstone were left mostly to their own devices, expected only to help with the gathering of food, and when that was scarce, expected to follow the rules of survival of the fittest. By her early teens she was well battle hardened and as a result of her single track interactions with her peers, she was quite the ferocious beast.
At age 12 while out hunting at the base of the mountains, she was captured by a group of traders from Selton. From there she was sold into the gladiator ring as sport. For three years she was beat around and generally humiliated, usually being brought in as the beast to defeat or the dragon to slay. Being so young she lost her fair share of contests, but she managed to never lose her life, partly duo to how pitiful and the young gargoyle looked when defeated.
During one spectacle after her third year in the rings she got into a brutal match against a giant of a man. She was sent out with a few other beasts and he dispatched them all one by one. Before he could land the final blow on Rylia, however, a rich old woman had the match stopped so she could buy the young gargoyle. She was a peculiar old lady, being naive and perhaps too kind hearted, she took the beast in out of pity, hoping that Rylia would become a playmate/guardian to her granddaughter of about the same age.
For the next few years Rylia was brought up as part of the family and eventually become close friends with her playmate, Cassandra. There were some difficulties at first but they were eventually able to calm the beast and even taught her human mannerisms. As her native tongue is a butchered and somewhat archaic English, she was able to pick up human speech relatively quickly. The mansion was perched on a high hill with a small forest in the back yard. The young gargoyle never left the property and when they had company she’d stay hidden in the woods. After a few years, Rylia was well on her way to becoming a well behaved young woman, although still very much a tomboy with a mischievous side to her. She was taught under Cassandra’s mentor, learning to read and write, of world history and philosophy. She led a happy life, although she would occasionally find found herself restless for more.
At age 24 her dear friend, Cassandra became ill. Rylia stayed by her side as she died. Her grandmother deeply grieved, let Rylia go free, claiming it’s what Cassandra would have wanted. Rylia stayed a few weeks after the funeral but eventually decided to travel back to her home tribe in the mountains. While some of her cub mates were happy to see her return at first, most of them began to shy away and even mock her for the human-like personality she had adopted. Only her mother and one of her younger brothers showed her any respect. Conflicted that she could never belong fully with either race, Rylia stays eager for something to take her away.
