Ice Cold Emotions
OoC:Alright here is my third character fiction, hope you enjoy!
Ywen rustled her blonde hair as she walked in the door and lit the candle. Throwing her pack on the bed, she sat down, pondering the day and its many events. She stared in the mirror, her green eyes staring back at her in the low candle light. Frost formed on the window panes, even though it was august. Ywen pulled the blanket off the bed and wrapped up in it, looking out the window before closing the shutters. Down next to the fountain, a young man sat. He stuck his finger into the water, and suddenly it froze in mid-air, and Ywen gasped. The young man looked up, and Ywen quickly slammed the shutters.
The next morning, Ywen walked down the cold wooden stairs. She winced as the last step squeaked, and she turned to see if anyone was down here. The bartender as always was wiping glasses with a rag, but there was one other person with a glass of water and a scroll. He looked up as the stair squeaked, and chuckled. She asked the tender for a glass of water and she sat down across from the man. She noticed him too, sat as far from the fire as possible. She looked at him as he put the scroll in his pack. His eyes were bloodshot, yet they still held a crystal like appearance. He had pale skin, and she liked his cute face. She took a sip of water, and then cleared her throat.
“Sorry last night” She said, turning red slightly. He took a long drink, even crushing the ice cubes before speaking.
“No problem, I couldn’t sleep, I was just messing around” He said. Pulling off his glove, he held out a hand to her. She took his hand and shook it. It was ice cold, even though he had been wearing those gloves.
“Can I get some more ice tender?” Ywen called out, her water was warm. The young man stopped the bartender.
“No need, I got it” the young man said. He snapped his fingers and two perfect ice cubes dropped into her cup.
“I’m Rayce, and you might be…” Rayce said as Ywen examined her cup. He must be a wizard or something she thought. Ywen blushed and responded.
“I am Ywen, pleased to meet you Rayce. How did you do that?” She asked.
“I am an ice mage” Rayce said, conjuring a swirling blue ball in his hand. Ywen looked at the element. She had never seen magic at such a calm form, she had only seen it when Valan busted into flame or Earen shot lightning from his sword. He shut his hand, and the magic disappeared. Ywen stood up. She needed to go, but perhaps he would come with.
“I am heading to the next town, would you like to come with?” Ywen asked. She didn't see any harm in asking, he seemed nice. Rayce stood up, grabbing his pack.
“Sure, why not, I have nothing better to do” He said. They stepped out the door, and into the misty morning. The morning was cold, and Ywen almost immediately started shivering. Rayce pulled out an extra cloak and gave her the cloak, and she wrapped in it gratefully.
“Thanks” she said feeling the soft fuzzy clothe. They walked down the damp road; forests on both side, and the mist swirled all around them. An arrow shot between them, barely missing their heads and a figure lunged out from the mist. Rayce lifted his hand, and a wall of ice shot up from nowhere, blocking the sword, and a second ran at Ywen. The wall shattered and Rayce drew his sword. Smashing together, Rayce saw his attackers better. They were big, and they wore furs of all sorts and wore boar hoods. They had glowing yellow eyes but even when Rayce was so close he couldn’t see their faces. Side stepping a vertical cut, Ywen flicked a knife at the hunter and nailed him in the back. He stood up, and began to advance and Ywen drew her sword. Rayce swung low, and the man leapt over the blade, swinging at his head. Rayce brought his sword up quickly, and the hunter’s sword broke the blade half making a whistling sound as it flew through the mist. Ywen ducked a large swing from the hunter only to get a punch to the arm. She fell to the ground, and the broken blade pierced him in the chest. She rolled as the man fell forward, and the blade was push up and out of the back. The hunter threw the hilt away, and pulled out a long hunting knife. Rayce threw a small ball of magic, hitting the man’s leg, freezing it instantly.
“Enough!” a deep voice called out. Dark figures moved forward, surrounding Ywen and Rayce. Rayce sheathed his sword, and Ywen grudgingly sheathed hers. One stepped forward, a bear’s claw running diagonally across his chest like a sash.
“My employer wishes to meet you Ywen” The deep voiced leader said. Ywen pulled the dagger from the dead hunter’s back and wiped it on the dead hunter’s furs.
“What is in it for me?” Ywen said spinning the knife in her fingers.
“I can assure you, my employer will pay you handsomely” he said, and then he gestured to the mist behind him.
“Shall we?” he said. Ywen nodded and the hunters escorted them through the mist. It seemed like they walked through the misty forest forever, like they were walking in circles until they came to a wall, about 10 feet high and large double doors. The doors creaked open as the lead hunter approached them, and the others followed. They were in a courtyard filled with neatly trimmed hedges, and statues of nobles. They walked through the doors, and a maid led them to a set of heavy wooden doors. Inside in a chair was a large man, with a gold ring on every finger and a purple silk jacket. He had a small black mustache and a pathetic comb over.
“So, I hear you are the best Ywen” he said smiling.
