For what purpose?

For what purpose?
He stood up, his hood lowered onto his face, not many people would appreciate his presence in town, but that didn’t matter, he was here to see someone. He strode out of the tavern; he tossed a coin to the bartender. “Keep the change…” He stopped outside of a ornately decorated house, and walked to the door. He knocked, and waited, no answer, he tried the handle, and it was unlocked. Surprised, he walked in, she never keeps the door unlocked… he thought to himself, he started past the entryway, the scene that was laid out before him was gruesome. It looked as if a demonic ritual had occurred. There were large scorch marks on the walls. “Kari?” and then he saw her body, he could hardly recognize her. He picked up her body in his arms. There were long gashes across her face, the blood was still moist. Tears sprang into his eyes; “You promised!” he looked up, his eyes seeing past the ceiling, “Why!? You promised she wouldn’t!” He stood up with tears streaming down his face, picking up the body. He set her body tenderly on the bed, she looked almost peaceful. He walked back into the living area, and out the front door.
She had died, and someone was at fault, He had promised, promised that nothing would happen to her if he served. The promise had been broken and He had done nothing to stop it. Anger festered in his heart. He flew off into the sky, leaving the earth behind. The clouds rushing by calmed him a little. He thought of where to go and he was there.
“It has been a while Satharis…” a voice said.
“Praise be to… the Higher Power.” He said hesitantly with the customary bow, a pained look upon his face.
“There are many people’s lives that have been prolonged because of you, one in particular. With you not doing your assignments, people have been suffering, and committing horrible atrocities.”
“Where shall you send me next my Lord?”
“To a town called Tollenaar, there is one man there that you must kill. He cannot be allowed to live any longer. Go now and fulfill the sentence.”
“Yes my Lord.” He imagined himself back on Earth and he opened his eyes and looked around. He was in a lush green forest. He thought back to his wife’s body on the bed. Anger flared up in his heart again. He soared into the sky, the cold air against his skin. His heart grieved at his loss, he held back the tears, “Kari…” He landed outside of the town; he could sense the man’s presence. Then the cold realization hit him like a brick wall, when he went into the house, where was his daughter? He had a dilemma, he could pursue this man, and kill him and risk his daughter being killed, or he could set off to go rescue his daughter, her image sprang into his mind, her long brown hair, just like her mother’s, her vivid green eyes, her slender nose. And suddenly, he knew what he had to do.
