Shadow Birth: The Uniting Swords

Hermkay, I'm going to take a break in writing The Sentinal of Destiny for a while and start writing a new one. This one is entitled the uniting swords, and relates to Ora and his family. This will draw out a new character soon enough.

Now, without further adue, I present...

Shadow birth: The Uniting Swords

Ora…

There is only shadow. Bound by a never-ending link of stealth and unity, he will escape the land of this existence. Young lives should not be lost because of unbreakable pacts…

Ora…

There is another. Stronger. Wiser and with compassion. Yet again, there is shadow. How could one hope that a light would exist in such a place? Yet there are many, Spread out across the darkness. One radiates the brightest of all, calling the lost ones to join with his light, and spread away the darkness.

Ora…

Two must join and pass ways. They are naturally together, yet parted. Destiny is calling…Will the blackness bow down to a more refined shadow? A shadow…Destined for righteousness. Now the two shadows are joining, and the void trembles. Together, with the lost ones, and with the single, brightest light of all, there will be peace. Many hardships will await them, but they will look with hope towards each other.

Ora…

It will be time...very soon…For the one who is hidden to reveal a shadow lengthened by light and cross ways with…

Ora.

Re: Shadow Birth: The Uniting Swords

Chapter One: Shadow Stallions

Orakadeteif Serial awoke with a start.

The young teenager yawned and blinked his eyes, attempting to get rid of the build up at the corner of his eyes. He automatically held up a hand to wipe it away and adjusted his view to his surroundings.

It would appear that he was in a land he could not remember. The last notable thing that he did was fighting a small boy he had met on the other side of the mountains he had crossed. It was tiring and uneventful and an old man that had set up a camp there had encouraged Ora to join. He had willingly done so only to discover that the boy (who was in fact older than him) possessed unexpected strength.

The small sheikah yawned and looked to his right. He could see the faint outlining of a town where he had purchased some food and other things from, like a newer blanket. He had wisely decided not to sleep at the inn- he had experienced some bad things by sleeping at them.

To his left was some things and food sprawled out on the grass beneath it. Lying right next to them was the curled up form of Cloud, Ora's filly. Cloud had grown rather large since the two had met and was ready to size up to any enemy horse, that was for sure. Right now her sleeping form was peaceful and her body rose up and down with every deep breath. The white horse was the best companion Ora had ever met, even though the two fought constantly over the tiniest things.

That was the unique thing about Cloud. She was capable of mind-speech. It is a rare occurrence in animals yet Cloud possessed it. Even though the horse was young her instinct always surpassed Ora's wit and intellect (if he had any.)

Cloud would do unexpected things together humans when they weren't looking. Ora would often get the blame, leading the victim's to wonder why such a young scoundrel was in possession of such a fine horse. After they treated Cloud like a Queen Ora would be forced to stay away from them until Cloud had finished her rewards, then they were off back on their journey, with Ora scalding Cloud harshly for her actions.

Watching the beast sleeping gave Ora a deep urge to do something to her, but he knew she meant no harm. Sometimes Ora wondered who the owner of who was. The boy looked over to the blanket over his body and threw t off, then bundled it and placed it in a travelling bag where he threw all the other things that were strewn over the valley floor.

Ora was almost obsessed with sleeping under the night sky. He thought that it had something to do with him having sheikah blood, as the tales his mother told him were fascinating and heroic when she told him about the sheikah's ancient and seemingly forgotten history. Ora did all he could to live up to his ancestors and kept a brave face at all times.

Ora grabbed the bag he had just packed and leaned over to start shaking Cloud. The horse grunted and neighed softly before looking up at its owner.

it’s still night time.

“All the more reason to carry on.”

The filly rose up onto its feet. A few more hours of sleep wouldn’t do you any harm, you know.

Cloud’s feeble attempts at trying to make Ora let Cloud have a few hours more sleep was futile. “I know we’re closer to fining my mother, I can almost feel it.”

The white pony blinked multiple times before answering with a quick flick of her head and a grunt, and then turned to her side, a signal for Ora to get on. The sheikah boy threw the pack over her back and hauled himself up onto his horse, and then she sped of into the distance.

Riding Cloud had to be one of the most difficult things Ora had ever experienced. She was a very fast runner and enjoyed galloping as fast as she could. When Ora was feeling particularly excited or happy he would go along with it, but when he was annoyed he would scald Cloud for being so dangerous. This morning he was too tired to care and let Cloud run to her heart’s content.

Suddenly Cloud halted, her hooves grinding into the grass and ripping it from the dirt. She bucked into the air, almost pushing Ora off of her back. The teenager held on for dear life, his eyes closed firmly so he wouldn’t see the ground from so high up.

Cloud’s hooves hit the ground and a relived sigh escaped Ora’s lips, then he became furious.

“Why did you do that?! I almost fell off!”

Cloud was obviously still disturbed about something. but there’s other horses, over there! I think they’re wild as well! a small whimper came out of her mouth.

Ora looked to the left and sure enough a herd of brumby’s stood grazing in the distance. The boy sighed and jumped off Cloud’s back, and then fell over. He was still a bit shaken to stay still. Cloud missed her chance to make a remark about it and continued staring at the other horses, still a bit shaky.

if they recognize me as a member of another herd they might try and make me go away…

Ora was positive that Brumby’s didn’t do that and were relatively harmless; if anything they were scared of you. He got to his feet and looked back at Cloud.

“Look. Maybe if we quietly ride past them they’ll ignore us and we can go about out business.”

Cloud refused to become calm and whinnied in panic. they’re different, I can tell. I’m sure that they can speak to other people as well…I can hear voices in the distance and there are no humans around! You listen with your mind and you’ll hear it as well!

Ora was worried that Cloud was hallucinating but listened in anyway. Just as he had thought he could hear nothing except the wind softly rustling the grass in the breeze. He turned to Ora and smiled at her.

“I can’t hear anything. I think your just imagining things- they are the first lot of horses you’ve seen in a while, right?”

Cloud turned her gaze to Ora and glared at him. “I’ve seen lots of them, in cities we’ve been through. I know these ones are different though.”

Ora shrugged and pulled himself back onto Cloud’s back, then patted her soothingly. “We’ll just have to ignore them, and hopefully they will do the same to us. I don’t think there’s anything else I can do.”

Cloud reluctantly turned with the reins Ora held and they trotted forwards, Cloud throwing scared glances at the Brumby’s not to far off. Suddenly Cloud broke into a canter and he heard her voice in his head.

They’ve noticed us!

Ora looked back and surely enough the horses were staring at them. This time Ora could hear different voices in his head, though they were barely distinguishable.

Another?

Yes.

take them to Tiresis.

Without warning the horses starting galloping towards the couple. Ora urged Cloud into a gallop and she raced further, though the other horses possessed an almost demonic speed and quickly created a wall in front of Cloud. She abruptly stopped, eyeing them nervously. One of the Horses stepped forward. The horse was white like Ora, though it shined almost silver. It spoke to Ora and Cloud separately.

you are both shadow-folk. It has been a long time. You will be escorted to the last clan of shadows where you will be introduced to my master, the great Triesis.

Ora and Cloud exchanged looks. What clan? Who was this Triesis? Before they knew it, though, the herd advanced in on them and they found themselves following them, almost unwillingly and Ora’s hands steered the reins as if they were not his own.

“What have we gotten ourselves into?”

OoC: Filly is a female horse under 4 years old. Not a commonly used term.

Re: Shadow Birth: The Uniting Swords

I only read the intro and some of the first chapter, and I must say, you are a real good writer. I like it. The prologue sounded very ominous and the rest was well written with good and interestiong description. Very nice!
