Dan The Half Demon: The Call of Destiny

Chapter 1: Dan's Beginning

It all started right after he left his hometown. His hostile nature prevented him from interacting with much people so he doesn't really talk much. Dan is an agile and strong fighter. He doesn't show much mercy at all. He will kill any and all who oppose his ideals. He traveled along the road to the BA when a mysterious old man jumped in front of him. Dan angry yelled, "GET OUT OF THE WAY OR YOU'LL DIE!" The old man spoke to him, "Just to let you know that a great and powerful foe will face you one day. Prepare for battle and you shall engage a duel against him. It is someone who is equal to you." The old man then vanished without any trace what so ever. Dan continued on his way into a nearby town. He stopped to see that a mercenary was for hire. Dan took the job right away as he had no money and was sort of hungry. The first job he took was a job to slay a group of bandits that were terrorizing the village. He quickly set out to their hideout and bursted in surprising the hell out of the bandits. Dan grabbed his weapon and slayed every bandit in one minute. He took their loot and returned to the office. This surprised the employers. They didn't expect to get all the loot back in just five minutes. The employers gave him another job to go and attack some ogres in a nearby encampment.

Dan set out towards the encampment and once again bursted in surprising his enemies. He slashed everyone of the ogres and sliced many of them into pieces. He was face to face with their leader. The ogre leader rushed at Dan but Dan moved out of the way and sliced the ogre into five pieces with quick slashes. The ogres five part self fell to the ground and Dan returned to the employer's office. They paid him what he earned and Dan went to a restaurant and ate till his belly was stuffed. Dan burped real loud and everyone in the restaurant stared at him. He didn't care as he felt good. Dan paid the bill and went to a lodging in the village. He went in and paid the man for a room. He went up two flights of stairs to get two his room. He went in and saw that the room was nice but the air conditioning was broke. Dan just shrugged and hopped on a bed and quickly went to sleep.

The next morning he went to the employer's office leaving his room a complete mess. He took a job to rescue a kidnapped girl of the wealthiest family in town. Dan being hostile went to where the kidnappers were and busted in. He made quick work of killing all of the kidnappers. He quickly cut the ropes on the girl and put her on his left shoulder. The master of the kidnappers appeared at the door but Dan just ran through slicing the kidnapper in three pieces having blood spill all over him. He went back to the office and returned the girl for a big sum. He accepted another job to protect a caravan.

He went on the caravan and was with the supplies. After about halfway they stopped at a checkpoint. The bandits were disguised as the inspectors. They started to take the supplies. When Dan saw them not returning the goods he jumped and killed the men. He put the supplies back and told the drivers that the supplies are all there and well. He hopped back in and they set off again. Dan was looking at the scenery from behind the curtains. He saw many trees and animals all over. Dan was quite bored now but he continued to stare at the scenery. As the destination came in view so did a whole army of bandits. Dan thought to himself. I could use some fun!

He hopped out while the caravan was still moving. Dan ran towards the army and started slashing at them. The bandits didn't expect this and were caught by surprise. Dan defeated 1/3 of the bandits before they tried to attack him. Dan jumped up in the air and two bandits stabbed each other killing themselves. While in the air Dan put his sword behind his back over his head and swung vertically and slashed a bandit across the face. Dan landed on the ground and quickly swirled around to slash and kill three bandits. He turned back around and killed the bandit with the bloody face. He killed the rest in a matter of minutes. The last bandit fell as the caravan reached the area. The caravan passed him by and he hopped back on with blood all over himself.

They arrived at their destination. As the supplies were being dropped off Dan was told he was to gaurd the place for a night. Dan stood their gaurding the whole night. He yawned as it was near dawn with no attack still. He sat on the ground and dozed off. Dan woke up and saw the owner standing over him. "Good job. Here is your reward," He said with a smile. Dan got up and accepted the hefty sum. He went back to the village and bought a house. Dan then settled there and awaited any jobs that came across. For now, he just waits for something more exciting to come along.

Several days went by with no jobs. A knock came on his door when he was still sleeping. Dan got out of bed and answered the door. It was the employers from the mercenary place. Dan rubbed his eyes and listened to what they had to say. "We havn't had any need for jobs in quite a while. We would like to relieve you of your job and have you do your own thing," the employers said to Dan. Dan, furious, slammed the door in their face almost breaking the door itself. What am I going to do for money? I have no job anymore. If I don't get a job soon I'll be thrown out of the house. I guess I could go out monster hunting instead. As it so happened that there had been an increase in monster activity. The mercenaries were supposed to clear them out but were just now gathering.

This is perfect! I'll go and slay all the monsters before the mercenaries got there! Dan headed out and spotted the camp of monsters. Dan saw that there was a huge amount and wouldn't be easy to slay them all. Dan snuck in through the front somehow and made it inside the camp. He got his sword out and started slashing the monsters. In a matter of minutes the monster number was decreased by half. The rest were air monsters so Dan would have a tough time. Dan slowly took down some of the air monsters that were there.

The mercenaries were coming so Dan wanted to hurry up. Dan hustled to try and cut down the remaining monsters. By the time the mercenaries entered the camp there was only five air monsters left. The mercenaries were shocked to see that Dan had cut all the monsters down by himself. Dan jumped up in the air and slashed the remaining five with great speed. He landed on the ground and looked at the mercenaries. Dan didn't say anything and just left. By the time Dan got back the whole town was cheering saying good job mercenaries. They were shocked to see Dan come in covered with so much blood. Dan just walked right passed them into his house. He washed his clothes and took a hot bath. While in the bath he was relaxing when the employers busted in and yelled at Dan, "Why did you kill all those monsters and leave the townsfolk to attack the mercenaries?" Dan didn't answer. If they thought about it the answer was real obvious. He was pissed about them firing him.

They left his house furious and Dan got out of the tub. He put his clothes on and headed out towards the edge of town. He was stopped by a woman about the same age as him. She was about 16 or so. She said, "Thanks for ridding us of those monsters." Dan just stared at her with an expression that said, No problem. He stared at her a little longer to remember her face. Dan thought that she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Leaving the town, Dan went straight to the old monster camp. He went into the locked area to see that there was tons of gold in their along with an old piece of paper. Dan picked up the paper and read it. It stated that the master of all monsters was coming to slay all humans. Dan tossed it on the ground and ignored it. Instead he picked up all the gold and took it back to his house. It was easy for no one to notice as it was night.

He put the gold into his closet and went to bed. The next morning the employers of mercenaries came knocking. "Since you did slay those monsters we will pay you," they said. "No need to. I found a gold stash at the monster camp. I'll accept the gold I found as payment. Give the payment to the others," he shouted back. After awile Dan got up and stepped outside. He saw that the woman who thanked him was standing not far from his house. Dan motioned for her to come over and invited her in. She was quite surprised to see Dan's house so clean. "Um... Do you want something to eat?" Dan asked the young woman. She nodded and sat down at the table. Dan got some eggs frying on a pan and bacon on another. "What's your name?" Dan asked suddenly. "It's Laura," replied the young woman. "My name's Dan. Nice to make your acquaintance." "Nice to meet you too," Laura replied. The food was done and Dan prepared a breakfast for two. "This is really good," Laura said. "Thanks. Hardly anyone comes over so no one tastes my cooking. This is the first time in a while that anyone has come to talk to me," Dan replied.

Dan finished his meal and shortly after Laura did too. "Well I guess you should go. I don't know what your parents would think if they knew you were over here. I hear the towns folk talk." Laura nodded and quickly left. Dan was smiling for the first time that made him smile out of battle. He left his house and quickly ventured to the training camp nearby the village.

As Dan entered the training camp he saw that the camp was unusually empty. The training camp had only five people there as opposed to the usual twenty. Dan asked the remaining five what happened. Only one of the warriors spoke to him. "The evil beast that comes for a week each year has come to feast on us warriors." Dan asked the warrior, "Where can I find his hideout?" "His hideout would be twenty miles that way," the warrior said pointing south. Dan quickly headed out there and surprised the warriors with the idea of fighting the beast.

After about ten miles towards the hideout Dan was getting hungry. Dan quickly snatched a nearby rabbit and viciously ate it. He continued going and eventually came along a large cave. The cave was big enough to fit a monstrous beast five times the size of Dan. Dan entered the cave unsure of the dangers that awaited him. He was creeping along slowly when he tripped over something hard and landed on a pile of bones. The thing he tripped over was just another bone. Dan scrambled to get up and made tons of noise. He came face to face with a pair of red glowing eyes.

Dan jumped back as the pair of eyes came closer. He ran out of the cave and the pair of eyes turned into a large creature with black fur. The creature dashed towards Dan as he jumped onto the back of the creature. Dan stabbed the creature in the back. The creature thrashed about viciously until it plopped on the ground. Dan jumped in the air from the extra boost and came down twice as fast slashing the beast in half. He chopped the head off and returned to camp carrying the head with him. The warriors looked to see that Dan slayed the creature and brought the creature's head back. "So you really did it. You have killed the creature that has terrorized our camp for years. Thank you so much," said the warrior happy. The rest of the camp cheered.

The celebrated by having a drinking party later that night. "I'm not old enough to drink yet," Dan exclaimed. "Who cares. Take a load off," said one of the training camp warriors. They sat at the camp drinking all night long. The next morning Dan woke up with a pounding headache. He stood up and threw up as soon as he stood. The other training warriors were already up and training. Dan didn't feel so good so he just sat back down with his head down. He sat there for a half hour. He got up and went back to his house.

He got there just to see that someone was dead inside his house. He went over to see that it was someone familiar. Just then Laura came in to see that Dan was standing over the woman's body. "My mother!" Laura cried. Dan tried to think how could she have died when he was gone. "Did I come home last night?" he asked Laura. "No one saw you enter the town at night but her blood is fresh," answered Laura. Now who could of done this? Dan thought as he looked at the wounds. These wound are different from the wounds I would inflict. Hmm... This is very peculiar. Just then the police force came busting through pointing their guns at Dan.

The police force immediately took him into custody. Dan was placed in the most hard to escape prison in the village. At least, that's what they thought. Dan was sitting in the jail cell thinking to himself. If I wasn't in this jail cell I'd go looking for the damn murderer. Dan's lunch consisted of basically crap. No one person could eat this stuff. Dan ate it anyways as it was supposed to be nutritious. Dan with a displeased look and his belly full quickly went to sleep.

The next morning Dan was put to work. He had to strike boulders. Dan was working faster than any other prisoner and got done quickly. The other prisoners hated that Dan got lots of breaks. Lunch came and the same crap was served again. This stuff reeked badly this time. It was also disgusting to look at. None of the prisoners ate it except Dan. What could you say? When Dan is hungry he eats anything. The prisoners saw Dan gulping down the chunky beverage and the hard to chew food. One of the prisoners threw up watching him eat. After lunch Dan was put to work carrying in boxes. Dan again worked fast and got lots of breaks. The other prisoners were weak from lack of food. One of the guards said, "If you ate the food you wouldn't be weak." The other prisoners moaned as they continued to work.

Later that night Dan was sleeping in his cell when he heard a ruckus. He got up and looked at what was causing the commotion. It seemed that one of the prisoners were trying to escape. A daring but foolish plan. The prisoner got caught and thrown into Dan's cell. Dan now had a cell mate. He went back to sleep leaving the lone prisoner to think about whatever came to his mind. The next morning there was no work to be had. Dan sat in the cell with the foolish prisoner. "So what are accused of?" asked the prisoner. "I was accused of murder even though I spent the whole night drinking somewhere else," Dan replied. "What's your name?" the foolish prisoner asked. "t's Dan. What about yours?" Dan asked. "It's Nick," he replied. "That was awfully foolish of you to try and escape alone," Dan said. "I know, but I just hate being accused of a crime I didn't commit."

"The same boat as me huh?" "Yeah. I need to get out of here. The food sucks and they make us work so much." "It's not all that bad. I get food and a workout." "ARE YOU NUTS! HOW CAN YOU STAND LIVING LIKE THIS!" "I've been in worse situations." With that said they didn't talk for the rest of the day. Later that night Dan was sound asleep. The prisoner was thinking of how he could get out. An explosion woke Dan up. Dan quickly got out of his uncomfy bed and looked out of the bars. This time the foolish prisoner was with him. It was someone from the outside. The person came to Dan's cell. The cell lock had been broken and the person grabbed Dan. They ran out by way of the broken wall.

The guards chased them through the hallway. Dan's mind was racing at the thought of someone breaking him out. While the guards were distracted the prisoner escaped through the front door. He made it out while Dan and the mysterious person were still being chased. Dan and the mysterious person grabbed Dan's weapon and headed out. With Dan's weapon in hand they busted through the wall with an explosion. Dan was coughing and the mysterious person grabbed him and hid behind a tree. Somehow the guards missed them when they were there behind the rock. As the guards passed by Dan's mind was riddled with questions.

It was nearing dawn as Dan and the stranger escaped from the prison. They went to a nearby hut. They went inside the hut. There were guards everywhere. "Quick! Hide in the closet," the person demanded. Dan had no other options at the moment so he obeyed. The person got out of the clothes the person was wearing and got dressed in a dress. Dan knew this person as her long blonde hair swayed back and forth. There was a knock at the door. "Good morning miss. Have you seen anyone running away from the prison? There was two of them," the guard had asked. "I haven't seen anyone officer," she replied. The officer left and she went over to the closet. "You can come out now," she said. "I never thought you would come rescue me. I thought you would hate me forever," Dan said looking at her blue eyes. "Well... I had a feeling that you were innocent. So I just needed to talk to you and find out the truth." "Well I'll tell what I did that day."

Dan told Laura everything from the fight to the drinking. "You see... I drank anyways even though I wasn't old enough. Then I went home and that's when I spotted your mother. Then you came in," Dan said finishing his story. "So that's what happened during the murder. You were walking home with a hangover," she said. "I have questions for you too. You never struck me as the fighting type. Where did you get a hold of explosives?" Dan asked. "I didn't. I have the natural ability to create explosions from thin air." "Hmm... How are you agile like the way you were?" "I have been training secretly. How about you? What brings you here?" "I just traveled here from my hometown. I'm not welcome in my hometown. I was rejected even by my own family." "That is kind of sad." "It's like a said to that prisoner in my cell, I've lived in worse conditions beyond that cell. I had to live in a garbage can once. It reeked and I didn't eat anything for a week." "So are you a demon or a half demon?"

"I'm a half demon. I wasn't always a half demon though. I was an outcast to society. People made fun of me and I couldn't do anything because I was weak. I was at the point of breakdown where my body would just stop working. Then I happened upon a mysterious light on the side of the road. It just stood there. I walked up to it and it sucked me in. I screamed real loud that everyone could hear me. Then I became what I am now, a half demon." "Wow. I never imagined that a human could be transformed like that." "With every good thing comes a downside too. I have amazing strength and speed but I also have a tendency to go into many frenzies."

"Frenzies?" "Yeah. I lose my sanity and hack people like a maniac. The type of frenzy depends on what I'm using. If I'm using my sword Frenzy of the Gods, then I use either Frenzy of the Gods or Dan's Frenzy, which is my own power into the sword. If I don't use my sword I do one of two things, I either bite and scratch my enemies or I use every element on the enemy. While I'm in a frenzy I take more damage then usual making myself become quite vurnerable. But all in all it's hard for most to even dodge me when I'm in a frenzy."

"God. That's an awful thing. How can you stand to kill so many things?" "Well... I learned to live with it. I try and keep it under control but it's so hard for me to do so. I have killed many a person in a frenzy. Just not recently." The two talked some more as nightfall came. "Well I guess we know quite a bit about each other now." Dan said smiling. "Yeah. I got to get home now. I'll come back tomorrow," Laura said leaving the hut. Dan lied down on the floor and went to sleep.

A couple of days went by with Dan laying low. After all Dan didn't want to end up in the hands of the police force. He met Laura the day before yesterday and hasn't heard from her yet. Dan thought that he could wait another day. Dan peeked outside then window and saw a most peculiar site. A rabbit was chasing a dog. Now that is most unusual! Dan thought staring at the animals. He decided to get some lunch so he left the house.

Dan looked in the forest for animals to kill. He took his sword and started searching the forest. He quickly spotted two rabbits and a boar. He killed them quickly and went back to the hut. He spotted Laura there and decided to wait to go inside. Dan watched her closely before she opened the door. He followed her inside.

Dan closed the door and surprised Laura. He plopped the animals on the ground and looked at Laura. "Well nice to see you aren't going hungry," Laura said. "Nice to see you too,"Dan replied. "Why are you here right now?" "I came to get you some supplies but I see that is not necessary. When should we go look for my mother's muderer?"

"I have been thinking about it for days now and I would need your help. I am a fugitive so I need you to gather some information. Once you gather the information I will head out there and take care of it." "No you won't. We will take care of it." Laura shouted. Dan needed the information but probably wouldn't get it if he didn't agree to take her with him.

"All right you can come. Once you gather the information come here to prepare. After preperations are complete we will leave towards are destination." Laura smiled and hugged Dan. She hurried out of the doorway and headed back to town. Dan made a fire and started cooking his meal.

It has been two days since Laura last talked to Dan. Dan was beginning to wonder if she would come through. He sat there eating the remainder of what he caught yesterday and sat back in the sunlight. Dan never thought how he could jeopardize Laura's life. Dan thought that what they could be dealing with what could be ruthless. Dan just then heard a knock on the door. He peeped out of the window to see that the police were there.

Dan quickly ducked into hiding. The police bursted in and searched the entire cabin. They couldn't find anyone. They left as quickly as they came and Dan ducked out of hiding. Lucky for him he made that hole under the floor as soon as Laura left him there. Dan looke at a flier they dropped and saw that they were on a massive search for Dan. Dan frowned and gave a heavy sigh. I wish they knew that it wasn't me.

Several hours later after dark the police declared the search over as they thought Dan was long gone by now. Laura came in through the busted door worried that Dan would be gone. Dan was sitting out in the open and Laura smiled with relief. "I have some information about the murder. Apparently there is another person that looks exactly like you but has a darker skin tone," Laura told Dan. Dan couldn't believe this. How can there be another just like him? He thought back to the day of his transformation.

A mysterious voice took hold of Dan's mind. "Don't be surprised if you hear of others like you. There will be three just like you. One is evil and the other two are good just like you." Dan quickly forgot most of the message. He only remembered the part of the evil just like him.

{Back to the Present}

Dan remebered about the evil that was like him. He only wished that he knew the rest of the message. Dan looked at Laura and said, "Let's get going. There is no time to waste." They quickly gathered supplies for the journey and headed out in the pitch black of night.
