DC Entertainment
Obviously anyone could see this coming. Marvel is purchased by Disney, its main competitor has to do some restructuring to keep up. While DC has been owned by Warner Bros for about forty years now, some big shake-ups came down the pipeline today.
As the press release reveals, DC Comics is now DC Entertainment. Former President and head editor and whatnot of the company has been dropped down to just writing, editing, and consulting while Diane Nelson has been made president in his stead. Nelson is apparently a marketing wunderkind of sorts, and will report directly to Warner Bros Pictures head Jeff Robinov. From this it can be gleaned that there is going to be a much larger focus of the film, animated and otherwise, aspect of the DCU and its characters. I don't know what this bodes for the smaller titles that don't have the cross-over appeal or for some of the titles that are on the DC imprint Vertigo. With major changes at the two biggest comic publishers, the world of comics certainly seems to be in a state of change. Thoughts? |

Re: DC Entertainment
If they are now focusing more on general entertainment as the title suggests, does this mean there will finally be a live action Wonder Woman movie?

Re: DC Entertainment
Ooh. A storm started to brew when Marvel was bought out, and now DC is preparing for war.
As stated, maybe this means we'll see some more of those films in development hell finally surface.

I hope not.

Re: DC Entertainment
Why not? Superman and Batman have gotten plenty of movies, and Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman represent DC as their best heroes. Why shouldn't the third member of DC's trinity not get a movie?

Re: DC Entertainment
Because she sucks. I hardly consider her part of any significant trinity anyway - she's a member of the JLA, but Superman and Batman are a duo (they even have a series of comics together). I don't see any "Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman" around.

Ahem? The Green Lantern?

Re: DC Entertainment
Green Lantern is getting one, but they're not really part of any "Holy Trinity". Superior to Wonder Woman in every way though.

Re: DC Entertainment
Have you not read Wonder Woman's recent stories written by Gail Simone? Those are really good.

While I do like the Green Lantern Corps. much more than Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman is by no means a bad heroine. She was important in that she helped pave the way for female main characters in comic books, and her recent series is, indeed, pretty good.

Re: DC Entertainment
No, because the very premise of Wonder Woman is uninteresting to me. She's Amazonian, has bullet-proof cuffs and a magic rope. Not my idea of an interesting superhero, but then again I'm generally opposed to magic-based superheroes as is. Hence my seething hatred of Alan Scott as the progenitor of the Green Lantern.

Re: DC Entertainment
I haven't read the recent Green Lantern stories due to financial reasons (on my to-do-list), so I can't compare him to Wonder Woman.
And I like Alan Scott, though that may be because I like the JSA and magic. |

Re: DC Entertainment
I doubt it. I mean, you hire Joss Whedon to pen the movie, then pull him off the project when his ideas don't match up with yours. But when you don't want Joss Whedon to handle a feminist icon, I have no idea who you would want to.
