Casshern Sins
So I finished this series today. It's a re-imagining of the Casshern franchise, where instead of having Casshern a super-hero fighting robots to protect humanity, he has before the events of the series even begin doomed it to extinction and suffered amnesia soon after, resulting in him finding himself in a rapidly decaying world with no explanation as to how. The series concerns him trying to recover his memories, as well as dealing with how he's the only immortal in this world of ruin who does not have to fear death.
Nearly every episode has him meet a person on his travels who isn't far from death, but the series' main theme is accepting death and dealing with it, making the most of life while you have it, and the series' message is apparent - Without death, life has no meaning. One of the saddest series' I've ever seen, with some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard, some brilliant artwork and animation, and generally just an experience I believe fans of Casshern or indeed any anime fan will appreciate. |

Re: Casshern Sins
"Caaaasheeerrrrrrn . . ."
After every episode I saw, I'd go around like a zombie, saying his name like all the robots did when they were "hungry." And that was the only way I could lighten up my mood after watching an episode. The church, the singer, the bell . . . To add upon all the tragics, the atmosphere was lonely and heavy. Though, it wasn't masochism that brought me back again and again: it was just the simple fact that everything was so well done. The storytelling, the animation, the music - all of them were just absurdly high in quality.

Re: Casshern Sins
There are some bits that went a bit over-deep for me, such as the entire episode dedicated to Ryuze coming to terms with her love for Casshern, but even despite that it managed to retain a serious mood, which is why it didn't break the atmosphere with the absurdity. It was just so well done.

Re: Casshern Sins
Casshan: Robot Hunter. This one's spelled "Casshan" because of a translation error but it is the four-ep OVA.

Re: Casshern Sins
Does the american version have a subtitled version or a dubbed version? (I hate dubbed 99% of the time.)
If not I'll probably try to find a japanese version with english subs.

Re: Casshern Sins
You can get both, and I watched the dubbed version I believe, so it isn't as bad as some dubs are.
