Favorite X-men TV show

Pryde of the X-men
I only saw a bit of it, and immediately turned it off. Good animation, but the dialogue and story sucks! And Wolverine has an Australian accent!

X-Men TAS
This one was pretty cool, though the voice acting sounds awkward. Pretty mature for a cartoon, especially with the theme of prejudice.

X-men Evolution
For me, its the best one. I like how it develops from light hearted to dark and serious. I also liked how the mutant powers were used as metaphors fo the struggles of adolescence. When one becomes a teenager, he has responsibilities. Some use it wisely, some abuse it.

Wolverine and the X-men
Did you know this was originally going to be in Evolution's continuity? Well unfortunately that never happened, but this one isn't so bad, though I feel Xavier speaking from the future is cheap writing.

Re: Favorite X-men TV show

They only made a pilot for Pryde, and that's it.

I think the original 90s series was the best, especially with the kick-ass theme song.

Re: Favorite X-men TV show

The original animated series is a classic, and pretty good in its own right.

But for my money Evolution is the best series. It took a season or two to really find its footing, but once it got there it was pretty much excellent across the board. Not surprising, since two of the writers and producers for the series (Craig Kyle and Chris Yost) have now become two of the best X-writers in the comic side of things (as well as, I believe, working on Wolverine and the X-Men). It was a bummer that it got canned, as it really had nowhere to go but up.

I saw the first couple episodes of Wolverine and the X-Men, and thought it was pretty alright, but haven't watched more that two or three episodes. I'll need to do that at some point.

Until I see Deadpool ouside of that stupid non-speaking TAS cameo, I refuse to see the new ones.

Deadpool does not need to be in every Marvel series of every kind. He's getting super over-exposed as it is already. Trying to put characters into a series as fanservice almost never works.

No, I mean he's RARELY in any series, and when he is, there's barely enough time for him. Look at Reynold's impression in the Origins film, or that guy morphing into him without saying a damn line.

I am a big fan of his and I'd like some decent spotlight for an animated feature. And yes, I already saw Hulk vs. Wolverine and that did fine.

My point remains the same. He doesn't need to be put into every Marvel series in every medium. Deadpool it at his best when he's in his own story, not in someone else's. The only time it really worked well was when he shared a series with Cable, just because it was just the most insane pairing ever.

If he's going to get a spotlight in an animated series, he should get his own little straight-to-DVD feature. And I'm willing to bet that he will at some point in the future*, because Marvel is really ramping up his exposure to start getting him ready for his own live-action feature. Deadpool is pretty much still a mid-level cult character, they need to bring him up to the big leagues. That's probably why he was in the Wolverine movie in the first place.

In any case, my point is that Deadpool doesn't need to be, and in fact should not be put in any of the X-Men animated shows, because a) he isn't a regular or recognizable antagonist for the team, so it would be total fanservie and b) a one-episode feature would not be 'enough' for most Deadpool fans. Basically, he shouldn't go in for the very same reason that the folks at Evolution didn't make Gambit a more recurring character: its too easy to have the character hog the spotlight, its too hard to walk the balance between featuring a fan-favourite and servicing the main cast.

Re: Favorite X-men TV show

X-Men Evolution was my favorite, for a couple good reasons. I really liked the animation style and quality. Like Avatar, it maintained consistent minute details that most shows wouldn't even bother with. Case and point: Kurt/aka Nightcrawler. The holographic disguise he used to blend with society in the first couple of seasons may have seemed like just a handwave for him to be apart of the main cast but then you notice how his hand are still just three digits. The device just makes it appear like his hands are in a permanent Vulcan hand sign in screens where he is hold objects or pointing.

Huh. I never noticed that. But one animation flaw I see is that sometimes Wolverin's claws look like they're coming out of his knuckles, and sometimes they look like the tips broke off

Re: Favorite X-men TV show

Evolution was my favorite. It's too bad it ended so soon. It could have gone on a lot longer than it did.

The original animated series is classic.. But I didn't care for it too much.

Pryde was great.. But they only did a pilot for it.

Re: Favorite X-men TV show

The Animated Series pretty much defined the X-Men for me. The Sentinels could easily have suffered from the Conservation of Ninjutsu (where uniform enemies that come in swarms tend to be incompetent and useless), but each one was BAD-ASS and every time they showed up, you knew that things wouldn't go well for the X-Men. As an example, in the very first episode 'the plan goes to hell' when the Sentinels show up and the X-Men are barely able to escape... but Morph and Beast aren't so lucky.

All of the characters get plenty of development and even better, you see how they interact with each other (Cyclops and Wolverine are at odds over Jean and Storm often has to intervene, Gambit and Rogue have definite chemistry but Rogue's power makes things difficult and often funny, many of them coddle Jubilee, Wolverine and Morph are best friends gone wrong, Beast... well Beast's in prison).

All the best storylines get covered, too... the Registration Act, Sabretooth and Wolverine's war, the Savage Land, Jean becomes Phoenix, Phoenix becomes Dark Phoenix, Bishop and Cable's time-travelling, Apocalypse and Genosha, the Weapon X program, Omega Red awakes, Juggernaut's vendetta, the Shadow King escapes the Astral Plane, and all of this without even including any of Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants storylines.

The show was possibly the greatest cartoon of all time.
