"KNOW MY NAME AND FEAR IT! I AM ONSLAUGHT!!!" X-MEN/Marvel Onslaught Comic Series

Ah Onslaught. Many of us fought off against this ****in' badass in the hit game "Marvel Vs. Capcom" as the broken, cheap SNK-like final boss of the game while some was introduce to this character in the Onslaught comics series (Marvel's X-MEN). Onslaught is consider to be the most powerful Marvel supervillian of all time. He is a mutant created by Xavier's foolish and arrogant mistake to erase Magento's mind and while Prof. X did this, his evil dark side merged with the darkest thoughts and ideas of Mageto, creating this monster.

Xavier calls upon almost every Marvel hero to come and defeat him right before he merges with Onslaught. Hearing this plea to help, the Marvel super heroes come and to aid each other in defeating this demonic being (hell, in the Marvel Vs. Capcom canon, even some of Capcom's heroes came to aid in the fight).

I have been itching to find this comic series online since it is an extremely popular crossover comic and is beloved by many fans. I wonder, is the comic good and should I read it?

B****s don know about my all-purpose-cosmic-antagonist? Onslaught ranks among the X-men's biggest baddies sure, but there's plenty of characters in the greater Marvel universe that could put him down with half a thought.

As to the question at hand... the Onslaught arc served more to shake up the X-men universe and showcase a giant brawl then to tell a really compelling story. If you're looking for a high octane smash up of Marvel's 90s stars, then go for it.

Ok, so...

I really don't care for the whole Onslaught arc of the Marvel universe. In fact, I didn't even read the whole thing because I just had no sustained interest in it. As an event I think it is one of the weaker ones story-wise, and the best part of most Marvel events, the fallout, is pretty much next-to-nothing in the long term. Everything caused by Onslaught's presence has been undone at this point, and the character is barely a footnote in the continuity of the books.

If you're looking for a lot of style but very little substance and don't really have an interest in reading anything in the Marvel universe outside of the event, then I'd say read if you want to. But otherwise it is entirely skipable.
