The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is a short anime based on a series of light novels about a sarcastic high school student nicknamed Kyon and his misadventures with the titular character, who creates a school club to search for mysterious and unique events; specifically, to find aliens, time-travelers, espers and dimension-hoppers and hang out with them.
Who else here likes this show? I became a fan of it about a month ago. I think it's one of the better anime series around. I'm looking forward to the alleged new season that's supposed to come out soon.

Re: The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
I'm a fan.
Though, I kinda wish the show was known more for its creative plot and comedy rather than its ending theme song/dance. C'est Le' Vie. Second season stuff is rumored to appear in a month . . . so yeah. In the meantime, there's the Haruhi-Chan shorts that've been on Youtube for the last few weeks. They're addicting, to say the least.

Being a gigantic geek, I learned the entire dance. ^^;
The show has great comedy. I laughed during the episode where Haruhi got a computer for the clubroom.

Re: The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
Spoilers: Mikiru beheads Haruhi with a giant axe because Mikiru was getting tired of Haruhi being jealous.

Re: The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
I tend to find Melancholy one of the least self-consistent programs I've ever seen, both in presentation (half the episodes are calm and hilarious, half are flashy and grim) and in theme (apply allegorical interpretations of Koizumi's Agency to Haruhi's personal relationships, and they all become weirdly masterbatory). Still, I'm a fan; the characters are a lot of fun and there's a masterful utilization of Irony in nearly every ep. I'd be very happy if we were "surprised" with a second season.

Re: The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
I've seen a bit of it, and generally like it, but I always get uncomfortable whenever Haruhi abuses Mikiru.
I'm doubtless going to have to see the rest of it at some point, because it was fun, but it's not in my top 10 by any means.

Re: The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
REAL hardcores watch the series in broadcast order.
not that I really care about those types of things, though. i've watched a bit of the series, enough to pique my interest. but, unfortunately, it has suffered the same fate as other mangas/animes. i stopped midway. maybe i'll start watching it again sometime soon... |

Re: The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
. . . New "season" started today. They're doing the whole thing chronologically, so the old stuff and the new stuff will be mixed as we get down the line (they've already broadcasted the first 7 eps of the original, episode 8 is where we start to get some new stuff).
New ending:

Haruhi never appealed to me, never could get into the mediocrity. The characters are typical, mainstream and look alike. The episodes are also mixed up and allow for so many possible endings and storylines that you could even throw in plot details from Wolfenstein and have everything plausibly fit together. |

Re: The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
I really wanna see the first series man. Heard good things about the show. For some who doesn't really like new anime, would I enjoy this show?
Also, in honor of the second season being released or whatever, I decided to take a MIDI music file and remaster "God Knows" into both an full orchestra piece and NES/8-bit song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFdXL...e=channel_page

Re: The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
Definitely one of my favorites. Top five for anime guaranteed. (Although this isn't really a surprise, since I tend to focus more on manga than anime anyway.)
The anachronism doesn't bother me because I've read the light novels, and the only other notably bad bits are volumes 2 and 10, which haven't been animated yet (and hopefully the former won't ever be). Oh, and "episode 1". That's directly related to volume 2. Hindsight is amusing. :3

My friend keeps telling me that Haruhi and K-ON are basically moe crap. ;3

Re: The Discussion of Haruhi Suzumiya
I have that season (1) with me, although I have yet to watch it.
And... those dances are way too popular, for some reason.
