British Dubbed Anime

I was wondering:

Does UK have its own set of voice actors for Japanese anime? I doubt that the people in the UK get to watch Naruto with the pathetic American dub.

In Spain, for example, even the high budget Hollywood movies get dubbed by Spanish voice actors, and the same goes for all anime. Mexico and South American countries share the "Latino" dub.

I've been looking for British dubs of several animes in youtube, but I've had no success finding one. Maybe you guys watch anime with subtitles?

You're kidding... ?

But why? >__> British accent kicks ass.

Also, most of the american dubs feature cheesy dialogue/ slang that would be "funny" for the American audience. Doesn't that bother you?

Re: British Dubbed Anime

Because British people aren't quite as anime-appreciative as Americans.

I just wish they'd do Australian dubs. Our accents are a beauty.

*imagines hearing Bleach or Death Note with all these English and Aussie accents*

I'd pay to see (or hear, rather) that.

Re: British Dubbed Anime

Hellsing did have some excellent British accents even if Ceras Victoria's was quite obviously faked in some scenes.

Code Geass needed, NEEDED, the same treatment, so I'm glad they completely threw the idea out the window.

Re: British Dubbed Anime

I am so used to Japanese/American voices, that if I heard an anime character that I know with a British or Australian voice.....I would laugh.

But....I would love to see and hear it.

Ever saw an Asian with a British, or Russian voice?

XD

Funny, but awesome.

I'm half-Chinese, half-English, therefore I am Asian with a British accent.

But I'm far from the stereotypical posh. People say I speak like an American.

Re: British Dubbed Anime

There's already UK dubbing companies that do the things you're talking about.

And they're pretty bad at it. There's a lot of Manga Entertainment crap that is dubbed in the UK.

Who cares what the accent is? As long as it is English. English dubs suck in the first place though. The accent won't change that.

Re: British Dubbed Anime

They tend to cut a lot of things -- specifically the cursing and suggestive content. Plus I hate filler words for yelling characters which make sense in Japanese but are completely stupid in English. There are of course a couple of animes that get the English subbing done right (no cuts, non-annoying actors) though.

There isn't really any cursing in the Japanese version so how can they cut out something that wasn't already there. Unless it's an English curse word said in the original Japanese dialogue which happens sometimes, which then it's usually only edited for TV. Same with suggestive content. But out of the 1000+ anime dubs out there, pretty much all of them are kept in tact.

...Nuh uh, this is wrong too. I know what you speak of, but it sounds pretty stupid in Japanese too. Matter of fact if you spoke like someone from an anime in Japanese you'd probably get made fun of for it in Japan because that wouldn't be how it's accepted to say something. Anime tends to have overdramatic dialogue in both the original and any language dub, but that pretty much applies to every piece of fictional medium out there when it comes to the drama part of storytelling so I'm not trying to be biased at all.

Couple? Pretty much the MAJORITY of anime are released like that, which is usually DVD releases. The anime market is all about straight-to-DVD stuff which is due to still being a niche market (although a lot bigger than what it was in the late 80's and in the 90's). Admittedly however, in the 90's at least, dubs were pretty embarrassing in the fact that they would be full of curse words in just about every line and trying waaaaaaaaaaaay too hard to be edgy and cool, albeit still staying true to the original Japanese version.

Boom. Hedchot.

And on the other hand, who said Brits don't like anime?

I honestly don't watch anime enough to speak for the entire library. I'm just speaking out of personal experience.

To me, it sounds less stupid in Japanese since I don't understand the language in the first place. I usually just think: "Ha, those crazy Japs."

I watch the televised stuff. I don't care enough for anime to get the DVD's (download, maybe). Either TV or upload is the way I usually go.

Well then, don't say, "English dubs suck." because that's suggesting that you've seen 1000 plus anime and determined that they all suck. Instead you could say, "From what I've seen, all anime English dubs suck." with maybe explaining why.

Also, if people want an example of a Manga Entertainment UK dub: YouTube - Devilman ENGLISH DUB!!!

I haven't even played 1,000+ video games (I think). That number is a bit high, don't you think?

Why? Personal preference.

Re: British Dubbed Anime

Hey what's wrong with american dubs?
A lot of american-dubbed animes have good voice acters.
Such as:

Wolf's Rain.
Gunslinger Girl.
Naruto.
YU-GI-OH!
Dragonball series.

And so on...

Re: British Dubbed Anime

The American dubbing of Dragonball Z was stupid as hell. The Canadian one was where it was at.
