Does Anybody Hate Family Guy as Much as I do?

The difference is that Family Guy's humor isn't funny. I don't care if they all have the same kind of humor. The rest all do it better than Family Guy.

They don't have the same kind of humor. Like I said before, Family Guy's humor amounts to pulling balls out of a lottery wheel and then holding the joke for a long pause.

So many freaking minutes of screen time are wasted with the characters staring at each other stupidly in an effort to suck an unfunny joke dry.

That sort of thing is funny once in a while where appropriate, but Family Guy does it nearly constantly. It's so repetitive it's not even funny. Not to mention their whole "I remember the time when" schtick being the main platform for their jokes. That's real stale too, especially when they do it one after another. At least when other shows have somewhat random humor or cameos, they fit it into the episode. When Family Guy does it, they have a way to do it anytime, anywhere. "That's like the time when I was at the Knicks game with J.K. Rowling and Jay Leno!" *Cut to said shot*

It's so wildly uncreative and unfunny.

It's funny from time to time, but i agree with Tonchiki.

Yeah. Recurring jokes are stupid. I'm gonna go watch Bartman make Homer say "Doh!" now. Maybe eat some shorts while I'm over there.

Yeah, recurring jokes are stupid when they suck and are used constantly (and I do mean constantly).
And regardless of how funny you find "D'oh", it wastes no time and always fits the situation at hand. There's nothing more to it, it's so simple. It's nothing you can even bash if you hated it.

Alright. So basically what we've established here is that you recurring jokes from The Simpsons more entertaining than recurring jokes from Family Guy, and I find recurring jokes from Family Guy to be more entertaining than recurring jokes from The Simpsons.

Which kind of puts me at a "to each his own" conclusion.

Actually the Simpsons' recurring jokes are used much more rarely than Family Guy's. The only one used often is "D'oh!" and it takes up less than a second to use.

I love Family Guy.... or, I love a lot of the eps in Family Guy, but some aren't funny at all. Still, shows like The Simpsons or Futurama or South Park don't throw me into fits of hysteria like some episodes of Family Guy do.

I remember one episode showed a very hot summer day. A bird was flying through the air and caught fire. I lol'd so hard. Or the Star Wars ep they had, and Darth Vader's theme was made into elevator music. Haaaah! The other shows, while funny, usually only make me, "heh".

Typical Family Guy joke:

Seriously, that can't take very much effort to write.

Yeah, but obviously you can't expect a show to air that everyone likes.

I see your point, and it is a valid one, I'll admit this.

The thing is, I'd rather a recurring joke that takes up half the show if it entertains me than one that takes up less than a second and doesn't make me crack a smile.

Most of the jokes from Fam G have nothing to do with their original personality.

And the most redundant statement is
"What?"
"Huh?"
"Uh..."
and "You know."

I hear those at least litterally 75 times a day. Each.

That was actually pretty funny. I'd say writing it down on a script took longer to do than thinking it up but still it made me laugh.

I see your point here. At the same time, I feel that the personalities of the characters are still substantially developed in Family Guy, especially in the newer episodes.


Coincidentally, the clip Tonchiki has posted here isn't even a good example of something I'd laugh at from the show. It's just a miss. I'm sure I could sit here digging up stupid clips of dumbass jokes from Futurama too. A 13 second clip is kind of moot.

Even if I hypothetically found it funny, it could have fit literally ANYWHERE in the show. That's how 90% of the show's jokes are. They are so interchangeable they're meaningless. They have no tact, often waste too much screen time to prolong the joke, and have nothing to do with anything else in the rest of the show at all. That's something only Family Guy seems to do on a constant basis.

The writing consists of no talent.
That, and it still doesn't make me laugh.

My point was that most of the show's jokes are like that one. This is undeniable.
