Re: Anime Dub Vs. Sub

I have to say subtitled. Although I do watch dubs, I watch subs first if they're available.

The only subbed I've really ever had a problem with is DBZ. I know that FUNimation did a bad job dubbing it, but at least they gave adult Goku a voice that didn't make him sound like a toddler.

Re: Anime Dub Vs. Sub

I can only stand a good dub. That limits my options, but I just don't enjoy the original Japanese and subtitles. I won't bother with a bad dub either so spare me the examples.

also lol people arguing sub vs. dub over bleach/naruto/et al.

Tends to get annoying, I agree. Aside from the whole show, that is.

You, my friend, are awesome. Had Funimation not thrown Sean Schimel into it, I may have never finished it. Along with Christopher Sabot.

Re: Anime Dub Vs. Sub

if a Dub is available I will watch it. But I have no problem with subtitles. Either is fine, but because most of the anime I watch isn't available in Dubs I find myself reading alot of subtitles.

Which at this point I hardly notice anyways. So doesn't matter much.

Re: Anime Dub Vs. Sub

The Hungarian dubs of animes are somehow always pretty good. Of course, there are exceptions, but usually they are very good. However, the Japanese language sounds a bit unusual to me, if I'm watching something with sub. Soo, in every way, I prefer dub. :3

Yeah, well... I didn't expect a show like Kanon to get me so into subbed the way it did. XD So, I test it, and am loving it so far.

.hack//SIGN, GitS, Bleach. Yeah.

Re: Anime Dub Vs. Sub

to me I prefer Sub on most animes take one piece for an example the japanese voices fit all characters exacly were the dub just go and pick random people not even caring about how the characters sound.

Re: Anime Dub Vs. Sub

Yes, same with Kanon.

One girl in there just sounds annoying in English, as do a few others in similar ways. And all sounds a few others make are not even tried at. But in Japanese, hell yes.

Re: Anime Dub Vs. Sub

If I'm watching an anime I guess I sort of want to be absorbed into the imaginary world and since I'm confronted with people speaking english all day, every day the dub can kinda ruin that absorbtion.

I dunno, that's just a theory, but I could come up with a million. Like, I see animes as Japanese so when it's in english it just doesn't seem right. Or, simply, like most people here, I find the dubs are often rushed and of bad quality.

Re: Anime Dub Vs. Sub

The only anime that I can think of off the top of my head that has a particularly bad JP cast is DBZ (which IS still the best Shonen anime). And no, I'm not just referring to Goku/Gohan/Goten, I man just about every charracter that meant two ****s by the end of the series.

Everything else, I could probably go either way (Fullmetal Alchemist, for example), or I'd take the JP cast (as in a number of today's Shonen anime).

Nah, I'm just kidding. But seriously Naruto's not my cup of tea.

I usually go for the Dubs because I feel better connected the experience if I can understand the language being spoken. If I were more fluent in Japanese this might be different story but then I wouldn't bother looking for Subs if that were the case. The second reason is that there is invariably a moment where the text on the screen will pass before I finished reading it. That means I'd have to rewind and pause at some moment and that disrupts the flow.

But I'm still fine with Subs especially if the Dub is un watchably bad (which is rarely the case for me).

But you can find some pretty good voice acting in Dubbed work. Especially in more recent companies that opt for quality and fidelity to the material.

I get the feeling that it's equally quirky no matter which language you watch it in.
