South Park: AWESOME SAUCE

I think it is, simply put, the greatest socio-political satire in this century AND last century. Cleverer than Dr Strangelove, more daring than The Simpsons, and although not QUITE as bizarre as Monty Python, its silliness always has a brilliant meaning behind it. It was ahead of its time when it was first aired, and only recently have people started to REALLY get it. I don't think there's a form of humour - slapstick, black comedy, sarcasm, farce, toilet humour, observational humour, parody, etc - that it hasn't thoroughly mastered. Its pursuit of taboo means that it will never be stale; as soon as people become bored with a taboo, it's not a taboo anymore.

The show's creators are geniuses. I mean, they filmed a parody of a movie that hadn't even been MADE yet! (Team America = GI Joe)

PS - I made this thread since the old one is undead.

I'm not going to argue with you on any of your points but to be honest I think the show has been going down hill for awhile now. Its just seems like they are running out of ideas and occasionally putting out decent episodes. The older episodes were way better.

Gotta go with LightHawk on this one. They'll always be at least a little funny, but not in the same way as the older days........I miss Miss Crabtree and Officer Barbrady.

Miss Crabtree was awsome but you also said that you miss Barbrady as well, what happened to him.

Ever since the South Park PD started making appearances Barbrady stop showing up for the most part. He still does once or twice but it's not enough for new fans to even remember who he is. Look back to the old days and he would have an entire episode based around him sometimes.

wat

The Imaginationland arc is easily one of the funniest things I've ever watched, and the more recent Peruvian Panpipes two-parter was pretty funny as well. Most of their recent stuff is still great, and for the most part, the only difference between the new and old episodes are that in the new ones they comment on and parody relative things.

Imaginationland was funny and I haven't seen the peruvian panpipes episodes, but most of the new episodes just don't have the impact like the old episodes. The older episodes made people think "I didn't think you could get away with that on tv" but now-a-days it pretty common. Another thing is that South Park just seems to blow everything way out of proportion like the Guitar Hero episode, I hate this episode. Like I said before in my origional post, I think that they are runninng out of ideas and that its just getting to get old. I have a feeling that South Park is going to turn into another Simpsons.

Re: South Park: AWESOME SAUCE

I never liked the show, nor do I think I ever will.
It does cover actual issues, but it tastelessly does them.

The show lacks class. South Park has a bunch of monotone, exaggerated voices, excessive swearing, and trashy jokes that aren't even delivered well.

Some peope like it, and hey, that's their choice. I just don't understand how a show like that got so popular.

It was something new and differnet at the time it first came out and alot of parents didn't want thier kid/s watching it so that made the kids want to see it even more.

The show went from random dick jokes and awkward situations to a show that has random dick jokes and awkward situations for the cause of political and social satire. I prefer the latter one, the jokes have gotten a lot more thought out and well done.

The China Problem is hilarious.

I'll admit that they have gotten more politically driven lately (But then again who hasn't), but it's just not the same as the good ole days. Even better, about mid way through to where they are now, perfect balance of crappy jokes and social satire. I mean, the Obama wins the election episode, I was highly disappointed with it.

I wasn't. Because it's essentially the exact reactions everyone had to it. I still have idiots in my class saying "Obama is president now, so of course we would stop a genocide if it happened in Rwanda again."

Butters as a pimp was great

South Park has and probably always will be a show i respected because of what it does. Makes fun of everything and uses humor to deliver some points. If only only some other shows would be more like that(anything Seth Macfarlane has created certainly needs to take a huge amount of notes).

The first couple of seasons were just about a lot of loud mouth brats, but now they grown into so much more. My favorite character is Butters for sure. He is naive, yet knows a lot at the same time.

I would rather watch episodes like "Butters Bottom ♥♥♥♥♥" than anything with mister hankey in it. Sorry, most of 1st season is forgettable at best, and 3 or 4th season is where the show hit its stride.

I can mostly agree that the first season wasn't that great, besides the premier episode.

I can't remain silent to this, Family Guy is better than South Park in almost every aspect. People say that its not that good because they don't get the references in the show.
Now lets get back on topic, did anyone see the latest South Park, I think that this episode is proof that the show has gone down hill, what you everyone else think.

It's not because people don't get the references in Family Guy that they don't like it. It's because every episode they flashback to some stupid event, generally involving Peter doing what some stupid celebrity did. And they do it about five times an episode. I don't need a million references to get a ♥♥♥♥ing laugh from South Park. South Park doesn't need that to be funny. The very fact that Family Guy has to animate what there referencing shows it's not a very good reference.

If you're not amused by the current episode, that's great, there's still a very large fanbase and a much larger one than the one Family Guy has, that does like it because South Park has consistency, story and somewhat of a plot for an episode.
