October Snow [Insaney]

OoC: Sorry it took longer than it should have. The weekend was like, OMG, packed! *flips hair, smacks gum*. About the name- I couldn’t think of anything, but this takes place in October. And it’s snowing. So…yeah. Alright, here it is:

The day had ended. From red to orange to deep purple, the sun had ended its daily ritual of dying in the most beautiful way. The obfuscating clouds had only added to the beauty, providing a blank canvas for which the sun could bleed onto. But perhaps the void left by the death of the sun was even more attractive. The striking black, the twinkling eyes of other suns incomprehensively far off in the distance. The haunting splendor of a nigh-full moon, somewhat obscured by clouds visible only as dark gray silhouettes from the artificial light of the moon.

He breathed the air in deeply, expanding his chest for maximum intake. Held it for a few seconds. Released it in a contented sigh. He always had loved the feel of October. The cold air, the cool breezes, the sparse leaves on trees not yet ready to succumb for the winter, even the movies and month-long preparations for Halloween. It all brought to him a sense of nostalgia he couldn’t quite place where from. But, the origin was no matter; the feeling was all that he needed.

And then it started to snow. The whitest of white upon the blackest of black illuminated by the ghostly veil of the moon in the middle of October. It looked like a painting. Could the day have gotten any better? It was hard to imagine, and, as he would soon find out, impossible to happen.

He closed the window, latching it shut. Pulling the blinds all the way to, he turned and headed for the door. Such a night like this could not be wasted in some cheap, dank hotel room. He grabbed the coat that laid on his bed and disappeared in a hurry. Soon, he was outside, amidst the light snow. He walked briskly down the street, in search for an area outside of the city lights. The streets seemed oddly void of any form of life. No pedestrians wandering the streets, no cars driving along. The city was quiet, save the impeding sounds of the nature that surrounded it. If he had not been so caught up in how magnificent the night was, he might have found it eerie. He jogged across a street that glared back at him with deep red eyes, and settled back down to a brisk.

The faint ding of a bell pierced the silence. He looked towards the source to find the door of a shop opened, a block down the road. He couldn’t quite see what the person looked like, but he was sure it was a man. A small twitch was felt, a feeling of uneasiness. He couldn’t quite place it, but something just didn’t feel right about the man in front of him. The man turned and started down the sidewalk, away from him.

In a flash of impulse, he decided to follow the man.

Through all of this, his pace never changed. He kept on walking; just another stranger amongst the strange. A minute or two passed, and he continued on, making sure he stayed inconspicuous. As he slowly got closer to the man, the sense of uneasiness tingled stronger. He was now sure that in one way or another, he and this man in front of him had met before. He quickened his pace ever so slightly. A change so small, the man surely wouldn’t have noticed. Paranoia teaches caution.

Another minute passed. He was now close enough to the man to see details. The clothes, the dark hair, the way he walked, everything about him screamed familiarity. He grew quieter with every step, as not to attract the man he was stalking. Paranoia teaches caution. He was sure of it: He knew this man in front of him. And he knew he was an enemy. His heart rate quickened parallel to his steps. He no longer cared for stealth. Curiosity evokes stupidity. He now broke into a run.

“Hey! You!” Perhaps intentionally, his voice carried with is a glimmer of anger.

The man turned slowly towards him, a thin smile painted across his lips. “Being that there are no other people on this street, I assume you mean me?”

“Yes.” He met the eyes of the man, and a light, striking gold met him back. He stopped abruptly, as his eyes widened. It was not the odd, golden eyes that had stunned him, but the fact that he had met these eyes before. It was the fact that the owner of the eyes had given him the two-holed scar he now wore permanently upon his body. This man had fought him before and left him with the powers of the very thing he had hated the most.

“You’ve grown taller, Valkyhn.” His smile grew ever so slightly.

Wisps of black smoke surrounded Valkyhn’s right hand, materializing into his sword. Flicking the hilt off the sheath, he grabbed it, swinging the blade out in a long arc. The moonlight shone brilliantly upon it. The man raised an eyebrow casually, his smile never wavering. “Well, that’s new.”

“I’ve learned a thing or two since we last met,” through gritted teeth, he continued, “Rain…”

“Have you now?” Wings as dark as the backdrop from which he stood unfolded from Rain’s backside, and his eyes turned a deep purple slit. “Well, so have I.” Valkyhn breathed deeply, forcing himself not to get intimidated. Tightening the grip on his sword, he bent down ever so slightly and rushed forward. He struck at Rain, but found only air met his blade where once the man stood. He felt the presence behind him. Digging into the ground, Valkyhn spun around on his heel, raising his sword just in time to block Rain’s counterattack with his own sword. Pushing his blade up, he arched his blade downward to stab at his heart. Again, the man had disappeared.

“You’re faster as well, it seems.” The voice came from across the street to Valkyhn’s right. “But the end result will be the same as last time.”

The snow fell lightly.

OoC: If anything was out of character for Rain, feel free to tell me, and I’ll gladly change it.

Re: October Snow [Insaney]

The end result will be the same. Will it really...? I've fought him before, but he's quite different now. He really wants to fight. He's the first to pull his blade and attack, he didn't wait very long.

"Is it revenge you want...?" Rain, having shoved his hands in his pocket after his blades were made nothing but wisps of dark smoke, gently pulled one of his hands out of the spaces in his black cloak and pointed at his own neck, making sure that Valkyhn knew he was talking about the bite that he had inflicted on him so long ago.

Valkyhn seemed to be enraged slightly at this, but Rain could be wrong, it could've been the same flare in his eyes since the start of this little thing.

"Things really are different now..." Rain smiled, shaking his head, reminiscing a bit, "I'm... not up to fighting really. I finally have a home to return to... but... if you really insist on coming at me, you have to give me your best, no holding back."

Rain readied himself.

"Understand?"
