Shadows of Mourn (Puck, Altamira, insaney)

OoC: Hope this is easy to follow. I tend to over simplify or over complicate. Figured I'd go ahead and post it.

“You said you would come back, but you never did. Why?” This voice kept echoing in Dybia’s head, “You left us behind, your own family!”

“Of all the memories I wish I could suppress. That would be one of them,” He said to himself, trying to shut out the echoing voice of his mother, but Strangely she had never said that. It was just what he thought she would say if he returned. “Gotta remember, it’s been a while, she’s gone now. There’s no way she could still be here.” He said walking down the road to his hometown . It was a small city with many mining tunnels out on the north side.

Dybia did his best most of the time to repress his memories of the town, but being so close to it he couldn’t help but remember when he lived here. Working in the mines with his father, listening to his mother’s stories, and playing with his younger brother, they were all memories tainted by what had happened in the town shortly before Dybia left it. One day the tunnels suddenly filled with thick gasses so quickly almost none were able to get out in time. No one knew exactly what caused it but it never dissipated so it was not safe to try to go in to figure it out.

“Here it is, the city of Mourn, I still don’t understand why he told me to come here.” Dybia said, staring out into the distance at a small city. It was at least 10pm so Dybia could see the city’s lights well. He kept walking down the edge of this road being passed by a car or truck every so often.

“I don’t remember there ever being this much traffic even back in the town’s boom days. What could they be doing here?” Said Dybia a little confused, “Oh, now I see.” He said looking a lit sign that said there was a lake formed nearby by a crater caused by a meteor that struck just close enough, and just far enough away. “I guess things happen in 30 years.” It looked like quite the tourist attraction. From the sign it looked like it happened a scant 10 years after Dybia had left.

Dybia kept walking until he finally got into town. Dybia was suddenly struck with pain in his head, he felt a message coming. It felt somewhat like he was having a stroke, but this was a pain so bad a person who had had a stroke wouldn’t recognize this.

"Ah, so you've finally made it." said an enigmatic voice that was blurry sounding at first, "I was wondering when you were going to arrive."

"Why did you tell me to come here of all places?!" Said Dybia starting to shake off the pain.

"Ah, well this place around you, it’s covered in shadows unseen." Said the god, "It cloaks its great power over this place with the memories of it's past, held by it's citizens."

"And that brings me here why?" Asked Dybia a little impatiently, "I left this place long ago."

"Strangely yes, because even then it was here. Odd that you were able to leave it as you did. Most of these people are just revisiting this place. It holds onto even stranger’s memories. Memories that don’t even involve this place. It compels them to come here and sustain it. This place is a consuming shadow.” Said the unnamed god, “Although you left, this place still holds power over you, whether you think it or not. A small leech on your mind and your power, no matter how you try to suppress it.”

“Hm, seems like a good enough reason to send me here, I’d have thought you would notice something like this sooner.” Dybia said.

“Well, not many people are qualified to deal with a problem like this darkness. Including you, but knowing humans, more will gather to get rid of it. But I don’t think you should directly pursue that, at least for now. You are different than most. This place may use your memories to leech off you but you can do the same with others that come here.” Said Dybia’s god, “That’s why I didn’t tell you sooner. I’ve known about this for quite a while. You can probably handle what you encounter here now though.”

“What are you talking about? What I’ll encounter?” Dybia asked looking strange to passers by on the street staring into space talking in his head to his god.

“Even though this place doesn’t affect you like other people, your sense will be clouded, it will know your intensions. It will use other people here to defend itself. They won’t know the real reason they’re attacking you, but the town will mess with their heads. Turn their memories around to trick them.” The god stopped for a moment to let Dybia think about this, “but you can wake them up. Breaking it’s connections with such people will weaken it. Let you attack it eventually. Maybe even make you stronger for the experience.”

“Hm, So tell me, What’s doing this to my hometown? How do you know so much about this?” Dybia asked remembering all of the details his god just gave him.

“I’ve been around longer than you could imagine, so I’ve seen a few things like this before. From where I am, I can see quite a lot.” The god said giving no real indication of who he really was.

“Well guess I should get down to things, so what should I do first?” Dybia said.

“Nowhere specific. The town will respond to you. I guess you can just revisit places you remember in your hometown.” He told Dybia.

“Ok, but this place seems much bigger than it used to. I guess I’ll get a new ride. Walking here wasn’t exactly the greatest experience ever.” Dybia said as he started walking down the street hoping to find a dealership to buy a new motorcycle since his old one was recently destroyed.

“One last thing Dybia, and this is very important. No matter who this town sends after you or whatever false motivation it gives them, the only real enemy you have here is the town itself. Killing them will do nothing to the powers here.” The god said concerned but trying to keep a calm voice, “I will keep watching what happens here. I know what to watch for if you do enough damage.” The god was behind his calm voice extremely worried with another thought going through his head as he saw Dybia walking down the street, “Don‘t die on me like all the others.”

Dybia felt his head lighten as the communication stopped. The voice of a god could strain someone’s mind in telepathic contact. He walked down the street and took a few turns seeing how his hometown had gown, and seeing how little traffic there was on the roads. He finally found a slightly worn out but still good looking shop where he could get a new motorcycle. He went in for a while having to fill out a lot of paperwork for it, but came out with a new motorcycle.

Dybia rode down the street thinking more about what he had been told about the town and said to himself, “If there are enough people here with memories of this place more people like me and Atton must have come back. Don’t see why they would, but I guess that was just told why.” He stopped in front of a large building that looked like it was pretty well kept. It was the museum where they kept the meteor that formed the nearby lake. Dybia had wanted to at least take a look at it, but the museum was closed. “Guess I’ll stop by tomorrow,” He said to himself.

He began to drive off wondering what would go down in his hometown with the next couple days.

OoC: Using Chaos, sixth one down. This should be interesting

Bic:

There was a pitter-patter of padded paws as a white blur rushed through the underbrush. The beast was panting, his tongue hanging carelessly out of his mouth, drooling as his sky-blue eyes spotted the lights of the town nearby. His ears twitched, listening for the vehicles passing on the road just below.

Yes! Yes! That’s the place. The darkness, I can feel it! It’s tantalizing; I must find the source. Take it if I must! Control it if I have to! If anyone gets in my way…

The wolf stopped abruptly, skidding forward slightly. The road below had taken a sharp turn, cutting off the current path he was taking. But right in front of him, he could see the illuminated buildings of the town. It was so close! Mourn was so close!

The wolf’s eyes rolled as his body shivered, embracing the presence of the immense darkness that settled within the town. Without any thought, as if the being were giving into its vessel’s beastlike nature, he cocked his head back suddenly and with his snout pointed towards the black heaven, he let out a haunting howl that echoed throughout the area.

Again, without thinking, he leapt down unto the road.

“Arf!” a loud whine escaped through his sharpened teeth as a two-door van smashed into him, sending him sliding up the windshield and into the tray. The van screeched to a halt as the two inhabitants yelped at the sudden flash of white. There was the sound of two doors opening and closing as both men walked to the back of the van, looking at the road.

“Holy crap, man! What the hell did I just hit?!”

“How the hell would I know, asshat? I wasn’t the one who was supposed to be keeping my eyes on the road.”

The two men kept looking at the road as another car swerved around the corner without even slowing down.

“Whoa…maybe it got up and ran away?”

One of the men turned around and looked into the tray of the van, “It also could have fallen into the tray; you hit the bastard pretty darn hard.”

The other one turned to look into the tray as well, while another vehicle rounded the bend, temporarily shining light unto the back of the van…and unto the large, blue-eyed white wolf sitting calmly in the tray, its tail swaying slowly from side to side.

“H…holy ****…What the hell is that?”

Death.

The beast lunged forward, knocking one man to the ground and leaping unto the other, burying his claws into the man’s chest while his teeth clamped hard down on his neck and most importantly, his windpipe. There was a small squelching sound along with spaced out gasps for air as the first person gave up his ghost. The other one watched on in horror, frozen on the spot…too bad for him. Another lunge, another set of scrapes from the claws and another crushed windpipe.

The blood-covered beast left the bodies there as he made a straight dash for the city once more. Only a few minutes more…

No doubt, my appearance may...unnerve some people. Going in mostly unnoticed would be best…I love sudden outbursts.

There was a small flash as the beast kept moving, a long sword briefly appearing in its mouth. After that moment, the beast vanished, and in its place stood a young man with silver hair and silvery blue eyes, complete with a blinding suit of white. With a small grin, the young man fixed his hair and emerged from a dark alley, stepping lightly unto the concrete sidewalk

Perhaps I’ll find some dolls to toy with.

A shadow floated across the fields, the grass withering away as the shadow passed it making a brown path running across the field. The dry leafs that got in the path was constantly whipped up by swift currents that appeared out of nowhere, and disappeared without any trace, almost as they were sucked up by the shadow. It was full moon and in the distance packs of wolves were out hunting, and their howls could be heard through the cold night air like invisible ghosts. The shadow took no notice.

The path of withered grass went in a straight line towards the unsuspecting village, bringing destiny with it, only the village was not unsuspecting towards the shadow. The village had called upon the shadow, and the shadow responded. The village was in control.

The scenery was all black and white, colored by the strong moonlight, and as the shadow closed in to the village, a slight wind started to blow from where the shadow came from and towards the village, and when the shadow had reached the outskirts of the village, the wind had grown to a strong current, carrying thick clouds that would block the light for the next few days, rendering the village in a dim moonlight. And yet, this was not the work of the shadow. The village was in control.

Slowly and unnoticed, the shadow progressed through the streets of the village, heading for the deserted graveyard just beside the old church, located in the south of the village. This was the shadow’s final destination. Here would the battle take place.

OoC: Something about a city that brings out the darkest in people right? Seems like the perfect place to debut my newest Character!

IC: How on earth did she get to this place. It seems wandering around aimlessly for weeks had lead her here, to this place, but why. As soon as she took a step into the haunted city her whole body went up in chills, and her bones stiffened. Something...Something...was wrong. This place reeked of evil, of suffering, of i justice. Smiling to herself she placed her walking stick and stomped it on the ground loudly, as if to challenge the city, she was a determined one. She would right the wrongs in that city, it would be her first achievement.

A sort of euphoria swept over her as she limped slowly into the city, she had lived with her injury for so long sometimes she forgot how much it slowed her. Then she realized, she wanted nothing more then to run forward and unsheathe her sword to challenge the evil, but she knew she couldn't. The almond haired girl could, but she didn't want to use her power's so half handily, so she limped. Each step she only wanted more and more to run, she had so much energy in her and it hurt to know she couldn't use it.

Shaking those thoughts from her head she stopped and looked at the grand city, it was a sight to behold. Even her old home town, though grand, was much more conserved, but the technology this town has was unbelievable, or at least would be if her master hadn't taught her about it. Her master, the man who died for her sake...no...Shaking her head she smiled brightly and started again forward, this city was trying to get to her, but she wouldn't let it.

"Stop Thief!" She turned to watch a dirty faced man clutching a women's purse running straight for her. Sliding one hand back she could hear the man laughing at her fighting stance, it seemed her limp gave away her disposition. No matter.

"Justice," Then something happened, the people watching would have sworn the man suddenly dropped clutching his stomach that was now bleeding, only Rukmini knew what happened. She simply drew her blade so fast no eye could see, a simple trick, "Has been served," She stated simply.

looking at the ground she saw the ever persistent thief reaching for his bag. Stabbing the point of her walking stick into his hand he screamed out in pain as a little bit of blood spurted out. Blood, now that was something she had seen a lot of in her life time, it seemed almost natural to her,"No you don't,"
She said in an almost over cheerful way, as she flicked the purse into the air with her staff and catching it with her hand.

"how...did you do that," The bewildered women said as she received her bag.

Laughing Rukmini simply continued on her way, raising her left hand in the air as she spoke loudly," Fear me, for I am a Demon," she simply laughed and walked towards the focal point of the city, the meteor site.

A mushroom cloud of sorrow seemed to loom over the city. A conglomeration of regrets and sad memories that had come together to form something...more. But there were undertones of lighter feelings--the prosperity and general enthusiasm that's often found in tourist spots new and old. An observant traveler might have noticed the difference between the glum houses that had stood there for decades, and the new, brightly-painted stores and restaurants that had sprung up since the meteor.

All of this, however, was completely lost on Louis Fritz.

To him, it was shaping up to be one of those nights where your body is trying to make for all the sleep it's ever missed--and while normally he was okay with this, tonight it was becoming somewhat of a problem, since this feeling was not setting on while he was warm and comfortable in bed, but while he was supposed to be walking upright into town to find a place to rest.

He thought nothing of the subtle, sinking sensation in his chest as he staggered into town. There were a lot of really awful memories that one could find if they cared to delve into the deep recesses of his memory--a whole mine-full, if you want to get into metaphors. The sinking sensation--it was like all of these memories were roused from their slumber. And even though they were in the back of his mind now, still beyond the lights of conscious thought, they were active again, so to speak...

Louis trudged on towards an inn, oblivious that he, too, was slowly becoming part of that mushroom cloud of sorrow over Mourn.
