Due to the change in Modship around here, we're giving out a new OoC Thread.

Yay for copy/paste.

The Community Thread serves the following purposes as regards the BA:

1. The discussion of anything BA related such as characters, battles and writing technique

2. Writing in general may be discussed as well. Giving helpful hints about writing style and helping others to improve their writing are very welcome

3. Immersive situations can also be discussed in this thread wher a member may come up with a situation and ask other members to share their opinions or answers to such a situation.


Now, beyond that, the Community Thread also exists for casual chatting and general discussions on any number of topics. Serious discussions are also catered for, as writing often draws from internal reflection. Just remember that this is not the I:SB. The Community Thread may be somewhat lenient, but that doesn't give you the right to abuse it.

The Rules

The following rules are non-negotiatable and will be adhered to:

1. Posts that contribute nothing to the discussion will be deleted on-sight.

2. Posting without an approved character is not allowed.

3. Flaming will be severely frowned upon and may lead to an infraction.

4. Blatant sexual content will be met with an immediate infraction.

5. Excessive swearing will be rewarded with an infraction.

6. Evading the swear-filter will warrant a post deletion or editing.

7. Picture plugging is to be deleted on sight, this is not an image-board. Supply links instead.

8. There will be no exceptions or special favours. Those who deserve an infraction will get one, regardless of gender, status, popularity, pwnsomeness or Councilorship.

9. Mods are expected to fullfil their duties and you as BA'ers must demand that those duties are fullfilled and that any violation of these rules is immediately reported to them.

Overall, this is to be kept family-friendly. Smutty behaviour is not outlawed, of course, but not at the expense of intelligence. We're here to have fun, humour, discuss and socialise. Just don't step out of line.

Yay! post 7! A lucky number... which is just as lucky as every other number in existence!

I know what our first topic shall be...

Deciding a weapon for one of my characters! She's a water user, and I want a weapon which complements that.

Well, I know I'm late to the party, but that aside...

I'm a mod now. Funny. I've gone from brownnosing mods back in my newbie stages to actually being one in these three years (holy HELL it's really been that long) here at ZU. I was looking through join dates the other day, and it suddenly hit me that I've been active in the BA longer than anyone active today. It's an odd (and incredibly lonely) feeling. But hell, I'll make do.

Scratch that, no, I won't make do. I'll make better than do. I know someone very dear to my heart who has been in the same "lonely oldbie" phase, and she left ZU long ago. I respect her decision, because her life needed to have ZU removed from it. But mine doesn't. This place has been my home for three years now, the Battle Arena in particular, and I refuse to let it down. When my teacher, Ryorinin-san left, I made a pledge to her never to abandon the BA. I plan to keep that pledge. I'm going to get to know all of you who I'm strangers to, I'm going to become more active in the Battle Arena than I have been, and I swear to you that I am going to make something of this little place we call home.

The recent tragedy with Duke has shaken us all dearly, and I know I cannot begin to even touch the amount of emotions others that were closer to him than I are feeling. But what I want every single member of the BA to think about is how we can turn this tragedy into a glorious turning point in BA history--we can change the things that need changing, fix the wrongs, make things better. We can have a Battle Arena that puts all other online role-playing sites to shame! We'll do it for Duke, for Ryorinin-san, for LEA, for all the greats to ever grace us here, and for ourselves.

I'll tell you right now. Ranarath and I, as your new Battle Arena mods, are here to back you all up the whole way. Viva la revolución!

We just started a new IC Thread not to long ago. We can if you guys want but I don't see a need otherwise. Also, do the crazy one. Crazy is fun.

Damn it. I'm always late. However, I currently don't feel like caring. I have to wait the entire weekend to give a friend of mine a much needed hug. She made me read a series of very sad poems. By the by, she might start coming to ZU and the AT. She's a very good writer, and I'm sure she would be a good addition to our little family.

Anyways, the post I was working on, already in progress.

People were talking about Elements. I came up with a chart for that.

Yes, not very good, but they pretty much sum up my view on elements. If I could, I would make a 3D diagram. It would be cylindrical, getting lighter at the top and darker at the bottom, while showing each of the elements as it spins around. On the 2D one, Magic is only there to show what the chart is, and to show the point where dark and light are pure, without being touched by any of the elements. Dark and light are not elements, they are alignments.

In my personal opinion, there are only four elements, and each element has a sub-element. Fire has solar, earth has metal, water has ice, and air has lightning.

Edit: An example might be nice, I guess. Let's say your character has pyrokinesis. Do you go into a full description of remotely manipulating/generating combustibles and oxidizers? Or is it acceptable to just leave that to the individual reader?

I don't waste my time even trying. It would be a complete waste of time, since it would be wrong, whatever I do. Trying to explain something logically can get infinitely complex. Just saying that the character can manipulate a certain cell or a certian kind of material doesn't make any sense at all. How do they manipulate it? Is that even explainable? It may be, but it will eventually lead into another explaination. That, in turn, will lead into another. It gets infinitely complex. Magic is much easier to think about. It's easier to say that they can do it because of the pure potential that is magic.
