The Darkest Crystals / Oblivivion Kings

Story-gist:

Five Oblivion crystals, tools used by the five demonic soldiers of Kanfrine in his first reign of the small kingdom of Janango. One of them has been found, tipping the first domino in a chain of events to shape the future of humanity. The crystals seek the power of their brethren to become more powerful, and the heroes seek them to help humanity, not knowing the fate that awaits them when finding one.

Once found, they will unleash their power to the holder and allow them to become stronger than they thought possible. Your fighting instinct will materialize from it in a demonic form, increasing it by tenfold, also influencing your personality slowly to a darker form. The power to fight evil could be in your grasp, but would you risk the chance of joining the evil you fight.

Also, there have been references to “The destroyers of Oblivion,” or “The servants of the Heavenly Jewels”, in the same writings of the Oblivion Crystals. They speak of the opposite of the crystals and if you should find them, you may become more powerful.

(P.S. When a character finds one in the game, send me a pm that gives the basic outline of the personality. That will give me a good depiction of the weapon that the Oblivion Crystal or Heavenly Jewel would turn into. You can also give a weapon you think it should turn into in the pm, and I shall consider it.)

There is no posting order, and anyone and everyone can play. Takes place in Janango, a neighboring kingdom of Hyrule, around 50 years before Ocarina of Time. (And will have something to do with his birth. Don't reveal your version in a post.) I'll start with a BA character known as Karpov.

Chapter One:
Treasures Bane

“Another world, huh? You must think I just came from my mother’s womb.” The slurred words of a drunk looking for a fight filled the bar Karpov was in and gusts of liquored breath flew into his face.

“Do you take me for a fool, Gerudo scum! I will not allow you to spread your dirty lies in Hyrule, do you hear me?” The pub was dead quiet as the drunk stood, puffing out his chest as if to impress non-existent females in the room. The drunk lifted his clenched fist as if with effort. Oh dear, thought Karpov, I’m going to ruin his nice coat. Hope booze here doesn’t stain.

Without moving from his seat, Karpov used his stores of psionic energy to lift a bottle from the counter over to behind the drunkard and bashed him in the head, alcohol going down his shoulders. The man crumpled, and Karpov had enough decency to stop the man from bashing his head on the table as he fell.

He payed the bartender with what money he had somehow scrounged up, knowing his would not work, also fixing the bottle he broke so he wouldn’t have to pay for that. He had never touched the drink himself, in this world or his original home of Russia, but he couldn’t resist any local cuisine, with looked suspiciously like mushrooms, one his favorites back home.

He walked out of the bar, using his psionics to use a quiet scan of the crowd for violent thoughts, but none came, though the greenish aura of fear and the blue aura of curiosity hung among some. He left the bar, hurrying through the storm that was becoming into a fine tempest.

Using a small amount of psionic energy that caused the rain to be pushed away slightly from his body, he went through the crowd, scaring a would-be pick pocket with images of horror projected mentally. I always did like the young ones. He gave a small chuckle as he entered a small inn.

On one wall was a large map of Hyrule, a red dot in the north-west corner indicated the town he was in now, and a border line next to it, with Hyrulean letters that he couldn’t read. He thought about how to solve the conundrum and memories that were not his ran through his mind. He was a man looking over a code that was very complicated, then looked over to a man in some sort of chair, channeling his psionics to read his mind, then transfer select pieces of information to his own. He could then understand the code entirely and was very excited. Karpov resurfaced from his memories and looked over to the bartender and found what he was looking for. Looking back over to the map, he read the words. But one stuck into his mind as he slept in one of the beds of the inn. The word that was on the border, next to the red dot. Janango.

OoC: I'll be using Rethir Longslash-Link in my sig

BiC: Rethir watched the man look at the map, then close his eyes, the look at the map again. He was perplexed, and he didn't know why. He got up from the private table he was at, and walked through the door to the beds. They had beds for all different species there, and Rethir walked to one of the Zora sleeping pools, the one closest to the man's bed, and slipped in.

The next morning, as the man got up, Rethir slipped out of the sleeping pool, and shadowed the man. He hoped the strange wouldn't notice, but something about him seemed dtrange to Rethir. He seemed to have something about him that normal humans didn't have.

The next day, Karpov left the inn, paying the man what money he had left, working off the rest with odd jobs. Its been so long since I’ve had to do an honest days work. Maybe I’ll do a few tricks in the main lobby for these, Rupees. Karpov stepped over a man who was lying in the street. They sound so much like the ruples from back home. Well, I better get this guy off my tail before I do.

Karpov stepped into an alley, sitting down on a stool, his back to the street. If I don’t scare him away, maybe I can make a grab. Just as he thought the stranger stepped into the alley, but the mental frequency was different from the other humanoids around, the ones with pointed ears. They had called him Gerudo, but what that meant, he wasn’t sure, though everyone seemed to hate them.

Karpov used his psionic to mentally paralyze the person, and upon hearing a thunk, turned around. He stepped toward the creature, keeping his concentration up. He noticed the large thing on the back of his followers head. Cute. A cloak with a fish tail. And here I thought only Japan had such strange clothing options. Karpov grabbed at the tail-hood thing, letting his concentration go at the same time.

“Aieee! Let go of my tail!” The scream the stranger let out was easily ignored, but the electric shock that hit him was immense. Karpov was pushed back into the wall by the blast of energy, hurting himself and putting a dent in the bricks.

“What the hell was that for?! Ow ow ow. . . .” The thing stood up, and Karpov’s gave followed, eyes becoming wider with every inch of movement from his head. What the. . . A fish? On a mans body? What creature is this? Karpov stood up, drawing his hammer from behind him.

“What are you and why are you following me?” Karpov readied his hammer incase of retaliation from the creature.

“Why the hell would you grab my fin! You would think that a person would know what is attached to a Zora.” The creature still held his tail in pain, looking a bit pathetic in a way, but Karpov did not let down his guard.

Karpov noticed the stares they were getting from the people in the street, and decided they needed a little privacy.

“Why were you following me?” Karpov spoke to the fish-creature by thought, but did not get a response. He remembered how the mental frequency was different, and tried several frequencies before the creature looked up in surprise.

“You’re in my thoughts?” He looked toward Karpov with a quizzical look and stepped toward him.

“Whoa, stay back or I’ll paralyze you again. Now, answer me! Why were you following me?” The fish closed his eyes and thought for a moment, which poured themselves into Karpov’s mind and he closed the link.

“You can speak now.” Karpov looked toward the creature, trying not to smile when the thoughts of the creature had turned to more, non-elegant things before he had disconnected.

“You peaked my interest. You seem to have a different sense about you. Your somehow different from other humans.”

“You mean my ears?”

“No, something else entirely. I just can’t put my fin on it.” The creature rubbed his chin.

“You called yourself ‘Zora’ earlier. Is that your name or species?”

“I am a Zora, but my name is Rethir.”

“Well, Rethir, it seems our roles have been exchanged. I’ll tell you all about my self if you tell me about you.” Karpov put away his hammer and pointed a finger at Rethir.

“Done, but maybe we should go somewhere a little bit more moist. Looking like a fish isn’t just a fashion statement.”

(OoC: Just for the record, I don't know if Ruples is correct for money in Russia. If it isn't, tell me. By the way, He's russian, from this world, but we are in HYRULE. Just a reminder.

OoC: Ok, and I think that's the Russian currency. BTW, in the future, would you mind not making Rethir swear? It just doesn't fit his personality.

BiC: "I know of a pond arond here, and it's also quiet, and far from prying eyes, and ears." Rethir glanced at an especially large-eared Hylian that walked by.

He showed the strange human who could read thoughts to the pool. He half submerged himself. "Now then; my story: In short I'm looking for a boy in green to buy from him a mask that allows the wearer to become my father. I'm doing it for my mother. She's getting on in her years, and I want her to see my father one last tim, before she dies. Anyway, I figure the boy, being a hero, will be after the Oblivion Crystals of Janango. Probably to destroy them." Rethir flipped over in the water, so his back was on the bank, and he was looking away from Kaprov. "And you?"

Janango. Thats the name from the map. But whats this about the crystals? Karpov Sat on the bank of the pond, sitting american-indian style on the sands. The woods around them were calm, and the few tweets of birds could be heard through the warm, moist air.

“What are Oblivion Crystals?” Karpov leaned forward, laying his hammer on his lap and taking a clump of sand. Hoping the moist air wouldn’t rust the metal, whatever it was made out of, he began to rub the sand against the shaft and the head. Rethir watched until Karpov looked at him with impatience.

“You’ve never heard of Oblivion Crystals? They’re special jewels that are said to give the user enormous power. Unfortunately though, they warp the user’s mind unless the mind is pure and without malice. Once again, that is why I think the boy in green would do wonders when destroying those wretched things.” Rethir dived down into the water, then bobbed back up holding some grass and began to fiddle with it.

Enourmous power. Maybe that could get me back home. “When did you first hear about this boy?”

“Oh, my mother would tell me and my brothers about him when we were young. He had saved our little colony from destruction, along with a temple that held great value to the gods of our kingdom Termina.” Karpov stopped rubbing his hammer and layed it down on the sand. He watched Rethir play with the water grass and realized he was making some sort of basket.

“You’re making a basket?” Rethir looked toward him, almost angrily.

“I would appreciate you not reading my mind without permission.”

“I didn’t. I used to watch my mother make baskets when I was young. The weaving is similar.” Karpov took off his boots, the humid air making him uncomfortable.

“Where is your mother?”

“She’s dead.” There was a long silence, neither saying anything.

“Were, did you come from?” Rethir began to work on his basket again, floating on the water and exposing his webbed feet to the air. Karpov stared at it for a few moments before realizing how rude it was.

“Aha, mother Russia. True, after both my parents died, it was hell for me. Living on the street, dodging police. Still, nothing can compare to the beauty of my homeland.” Karpov leaned back, eventually reaching the sand with his head.

“Russia . . . Never heard of it.”

“I’m not surprised. It can’t be found in this world.” At that, Rethir stopped weaving altogether and dropped it, letting the unfinished container drift away.

(OoC= Yes, this is not another version of Karpov (and not the video game character) but a man who is trapped (in his eyes) in Hyrule. Say somehting about a bright light and then waking up in a field somewhere if you elaborate on that statement. Oh, by the by, this is fifty years before Ocarina of Time. Niether is the Link of majora's mask born yet, neither is Ganandorf. At least, not for a few years. By the by, how old is Ganon in OoT.)

OoC: I don't know how old Ganondorf is, and if OoT Link isn't born yet, then it could be that the Dome stuck him in another time, but in Hyrule. Rethir obviously doesn't know this.

BiC:"Did you come here through the Dome?" Rethir questioned.
"No." Karpov grunted, suddenly becoming untalkative. He spread out his sleeping mat. "We'll spend the night here, and start out for Janango in the morning."
"Fine by me." Rethir replied, and slid under the water.

The next day, the two beings set out for the border. It wasn't far, but when they got there, there were some Janangans there. "Halt! No one is allowed entry in Janango! The border is closed!" The Janagans, who looked exactly like Hylians in all but eye color, (All their eyes were orange) copleteley blocked the way. Rethir drew his sword and whisped to Karpov, "Let's get 'em."

The surprise that Karpov felt when Rethir had pulled a seven foot sword from a four foot sheath was greater than when he had first learned he was a fish, but he kept his composure.

“Rethir, I’ll handle this.” Karpov walked toward Rethir slowly, laying a hand on his shoulder.

“How?”

“I’ll show you if you would put your sword back.” A few tense seconds passed before he put away the oversized weapon. When he did, the guards also relaxed. Funny. They look more fearful of me than him. Karpov walked toward the guards, who then lifted up their weapons again. Karpov did not stop walking, but when he finally did he stayed four feet away from the maximum distance that a spear could be thrust.

“Now, ignoring my friend here, why would you not let us by. As far as I know, we are not a war and are not enemies. Why don’t you let us pass and we will be on our way.” That’s right, keep talking. Let me enter your mind and find the true reasons. Within five seconds he found it.

“You so not need to know why, only that you cannot pass.” Karpov alerted Rethir through his mind contact, and Rethir said he could here rustling in the bushes. Karpov focused a mind scan in the foliage and found men with the red aura of violent thoughts. His eyes had flickered to the spot for a few moments before going back to the gaurd, but he was sure what they were. And the thief knew that he did.

“And you only need to know that you cannot leave.”

(OoC= The gaurds are theives who want to gut us and steal our valuables. Just clarifying for those who did not understand.)

The thieves surrounded the two travelers, seeming to flow from the bushes. Rethir looked to his left and right, surprised at the sheer number. He drew his sword again, becoming huge as it left the sheath. Karpov left his hammer where it was at the loop in his belt. The enemy had blocked both paths of escape and there was only one option. Rethir, now!

Rethir rushed to the nearest man and gave a swing of the thin blade, easily slicing through the opponent. Another rushed to him, who grabbed Rethir’s tail. The one thing that went through Karpov’s mind was poor bugger. Rethir had shocked the man senseless and moved on to another target by the time a man got up enough courage to go after Karpov himself. Before he had gotten within five feet, Karpov had summoned up his psionic energy to do a choke hold onto the mans throat, lifting him up into the air until he stopped kicking. He dropped him and grabbed his hammer, throwing at another oncomer, resulting in the man being crushed between the hammer’s head and a tree.

Using his psionics again, he brought his hammer back to him, swinging it to throw aside another man, the snap of bones confirming the hit. I hope Rethir won’t need my help. The truth was, he didn’t.

Rethir was in his element. He rushed the biggest thief he could see, a massive brute carrying a club, and rolled between his legs. The brute was surprised as his club smashed into the ground, and even more surprised as the Zora's long blade seemingly grew from his chest. He was dead before he hit the ground

The fish-man parried an attack from a medium-sized thief's sword, and then electrified himself. The charge traveled up Rethir's blade and into the Janangan. He was thrown backwards by the force of the charge and passed out.

And so it contiued, until at last, there were no more. "Well this is an encouraging start," remarked Rethir dryly.

Karpov rolled his eyes at Rethir’s comment, putting his hammer into it’s loop. Scanning the area once more, the only auras he could see were ones of green peaceful thoughts of animals. Oh, how I wish people could be like that, then we wouldn’t have to do things like this. Karpov signaled to Rethir that the coast was clear and they went on. They had walked until noon before a village had come into sight, and another few minutes to get there. At the gate, the gaurds eyed Rethir and Karpov, stopping them with there spears.

“Halt! No weapons allowed past this point.” The guard on the left pointed to sign that neither of them could read. The guards noticed their faces and acted different than Karpov anticipated.

“Oh, would you two be with our neighbor country Hyrule? That would explain why you can’t read our writing, but didn’t you get ambushed by some thieves pretending to be border guards?” The guard relaxed his stance and leaned his spear against his shoulder.

“Why yes we did. Though the roles got switched as them losing something.” Karpov tried not to make it seem as though the thieves were still alive so as not to make themselves seem special and attract attention.

“Oh, really? Look’s like you caught them with their pants down, ha ha ha.” The guard nuged the other with his elbow. They both laughed.

“So, where should we put our weapons then, should we need them?” Rethir walked toward them, taking off his sheath and sword.

“There’s a storage shed inside the main wall. You can put them in safety boxes, but you’ll have to pay.” The two went through the gate and one of the guards led them to the shed. Rethir gave the man there a blue stone, a Rupee worth five credits, and gave him his weapon. Karpov had to search his pockets, but managed to get five green Rupee’s, each worth one credit. The man took them and Karpov gave him his hammer. Unfortunately, the clerk couldn’t lift it from the counter. They eventually had to call two guards to lift it up and bring it to the back of the shed. When they left, Rethir gave Karpov a quizzical face.

“Long story.”

“Fair enough.”

(OoC= Could someone else please join also. Thank you.)
