Everyday seemed to be the same. Each time the clock clicked twelve, or the sun struck high, the very same thing happened. And as such it happened, again, and again for weeks on end. For those who know to well of fear, and are to finely entangled in desperation, this was at first a blessing of the highest order. Peace.
However something turned in the stomach, of the child, as he walked slowly down the long dirt path. Peace was boring, he finally concluded, it wouldn't be bad if it was real peace, but it was more like the fake kind. In real peace, everything isn't always perfect, and time changed things, in this mockery of peace it was just repetition of the very same daily events down to a tea. Wake up, find food, rest, find some more food, sleep. It was getting nothing down, they where never any closer to achieving their goal then they where when the whole thing started well over a year ago now. With a huffed sigh, the child kicked some dirt in the air, and prayed to the gods, or whatever was out there for some excitement, and of course the mischievous gods Couldn't help but oblige the boys pleas.
“Get away from me creep,” Without noticing the girl he had been walking with had fallen back a few meters, and like a pack of ravaging wolfs they struck.
“Whats ta matter doll face? Aint cha glad tah see us,” Pathetic creatures the child decided with cold eyes, they saw a lone girl, with quite desirable beauty walking alone, and together they struck, probably to feed their primal animal instincts.
“Seriously back off,” The girl of fourteen said pushing the head of one of them back, as he closed in for a sloppy kiss.
“Enough is enough,” Devin murmurd to himself, “Hey Punks!” Devin called out to the three boys, who looked at least 16 each, “How about you stop picking on women, OR I'm going to have to teach you some self control,”
“Wuld cha look at tat, the little boy wantsa play,” One of the wolfs snarled, and stepped forward, presumable the alpha male of the group, “Then lets play, eh?” Arrogance never gains any ground in life, so these “men”, and I do use that term lightly were far back compared to the one they fought. As the first the Alpha male ran forward, his fist raised in blind rage, The looked to the ground lightly, then when he reached the perfect range, he struck.
Instantly the alpha wolf fell to the ground clutching his bleed stomach in pure agony, and when he falls the rest run. Cowards. The boy walked over the boy, and looked down at him with remorse, “Don't worry...your wound isn't fatal, but I suggest you learn from this,”
“Who...who do you...think you are,” The wolf growled through his teeth in agony, though more pain had been dealt to his pride then his body.
“Names Devin,” Devin said with a silly smile, and looking up to Cari,” You get in trouble to much, one of these days I aint going to be there to save ya!”
“Its not my fault. I attract boys like a magnet,” She replied with a playful wink, and quickly ran over to him, being carful to step on the wounded mans face.
“That wasn't nessecary,” he said quickly sheathing his blade.
“Oh, he deserved it,” She said sticking her tounge out at the fallen man, “Now what do we...” Then everything went blank.
><><><>One Hour Later<><><><
“CARI!” The boy named Devin sat up in a panic, his hand grabbing a particularly sore part of his neck,” Cari...” Feeling around he noticed a small hole just large enough for a poisons dart...
“I'm right here Devin,” The girl said calling from behind the boy.
“Cari!” Quickly turning, and getting to his feet, he ran to embrace her, “I'm so glad your alright,”
“Stop being mushy Devin, we're not alright,”
Pushing away from her, and looking in her clear eyes he gave a bemused look, “What do you mean,”
“Look around, we're in a jail,” With a quick look around to all side he knew she was right, the wall around them where heave brick, nearly impenetrable, the only way in or out where by the heavy steel gates on either side of the rectangular room.
“Judging by the anxious jeers outside, we are either about to be executed...or about to participate in some sort of underground fighting ring,”
“Lets pray its the latter,” Devin mused, as the gate slowly creaked open, “Well, I guess we can only go forward as destiny decides,” Devin took a few nervous steps, and then a few more until he sigh in relief. The latter was correct, it was an arena...but even still who knows the rules, not them, nor the fairly large man who stood across from them, as he looked just as bemused as them. Then everything became clear, as a tall skinny man spoke loudly to room, from an elevated platform.
'WELCOME!” The man roared as the crowds murmur slowly died, “Today we have an interesting match for you all. Instead of our regulars we dragged some well to do men, and a women off the street for your entertainment...now if either of the parties disagree, then it'll be even more so, as you get to witness a live execution,” Suddenly the crowd roared into a frenzy, and only the tall mans hands could settle them, “Now now... Well let the combatants introduce themselves...or else,”
Knowing the meaning of “or else” Devin Answered, “I am Devin, and This is Cari,” He said motioning towards his comrade, as he waited for the other man to speak...
