(Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

OoC: I will be using my character, Fenn Tirren.

BiC:The ground is cracked. A strange mist rises from the ground to shroud all things, living or dead. The terrain is completely barren, and there is nothing in the way of towns for many miles. There are strange trees all around, with reaching branches and horrific faces imprinted into their gnarled trunks.

There are black rocks all around that seem to be made of obsidian but, on a second glance, are made of some other odd material. These rocks are in many sizes and are scattered throughout the battlefield.

There is little to no undergrowth. The only plants growing are wiry, razor-sharp shrubs that are a tan-brown color. These pop up from the strange cracks that cover the ground.

Welcome to the Deadlands.

[----------------------------------------]

Fenn walked on to the battlefield, his boots making a hollow sound. His cloak was pulled around him, though the wind blew it around at the edges, and his hood was pulled tightly over his head. Eyes flicking left and right, he studied his terrain, scoping out any possible place that he could take cover, and noting places that would be a good vantage point. Fenn left nothing uncovered, nothing unobserved. This was the Deadlands; you could not afford to make mistakes, for any mistake could instantly be your last.

The wind howled overhead, chilling him to the bone. He shivered once, and kept walking. Stumbling over an unseen rock, he fell to the ground and immediately picked himself back up again. A storm was raging overhead; visibility was nearly down to zero. There was a small hut to the right, and he immediately took shelter. Looking out, Fenn stayed in the shadows and observed.

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

OoC: oh, i'll join. Usin Ryoko Dasta. link in sig

BiC: Ryoko walked through this ghostland. Very little lived here. Some small razor sharp bushes that, if you grabbed, cut your hand and contact. Ugh, I wouldn't want to even touch those things. There obviously deadly and only an idiotic person would even think of touching one of those bushes. Ryoko continued walking. Her dragon, Biconne, was slowly trailing behind her. Biconne was a blue dragon, and did not have the adaptations to live in a desert.

"Come on Biconne. I'm sure we'll find water soon."

Ryoko was worried. Her dragon could not live long in a wasteland without some sort of water. If I stay here too long, biconne will go into a shock from not being near water, and it could kill him.

The wind began to pick up. Luckily for them, it was blowing into the direction they were traveling in. This wind would be an aid to help them across the desert faster. What the- A small tricle of blood ran down her cheek. Oh no, this wind. Its a razor wind!

"Biconne, fly! Fly high and out of this wind!"

Biconne began to flap his wings as he carried himself in the air. He was weak from ehaustion though, and he was climbimg slowly, slower than Ryoko wanted. But she could not worry about her dragon at this time. She needed to find a shelter, and fast before she was cut to pieces.

Her eyes scanned the landscape as fast as they could, untill she spotted what looked like a small wooden shack, obviously damaged from the weather. Ryoko began to ran, the wind was getting even stronger and sharper. Some more cuts had alreay began appear. She picked up the pace, she did not want to die in a place like this.

Ryoko was closing in on the small building now. And finally she reached it, only to find it, occupied . . . .

OoC: lets get this thing rollin lol

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

Tera remembered what the strange man at the inn had said, "There is a wide stretch of plainlands just past the hills to the east; perhaps you will find what you're looking for there..." she had thought it was too good to be true, but now she knew; "but it can get a bit windy at night." he had said.

The sun was setting, and Tera had to assume her home could not be in this wasteland, and so she headed to the nearest hills; but moments after she began to leave, the winds picked up speed, and she knew she couldn't make it there before the wind tore her to pieces. Tera quickly emptied her left earring of the lightning it had held since the last thunderstorm, which was quickly dissapated by the strong wind, and set it to absorb a significant amount of the air pressure within a few feet of her, "Is something, or somebody trying to keep me here?" She thought aloud.

With the knowledge that her earring could continue as it was nearly indefinently, she had some time to rest and think about her situation, so she sat down and let her mind work; "perhaps that man had tried to lure me here, but why would he want to? I have no enemies... do I?" Tera looked around her; nothing but dust and dirt in every direction... except on careful examination to the east she saw something in the distance, only visible due to the reflection of light from the setting sun, and no bigger than a woodsman's hut... "And... people?"

Tera jumped to her feet and ran toward the glint on the horizon.

OoC: That should do it. First RP post FTW!

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

Hearing footsteps, Fenn dropped down behind one of the strange black rocks. He saw a strange woman run into the small, broken-down hut to escape the wind. He stared up, his hood nearly coming off, as the wind howled overhead. You could almost see it; it was an entity, it's own strange mystery. He shook his head of these thoughts and concentrated on the situation at hand. He could sense a strange being up above, most likely a magical one, and he could sense the woman in the house.

He looked off towards the horizon, where the sun was slowly setting. There was a shape, running towards the hut, apparently, and he sighed. More trouble, he guessed. This was always what it was like. There never existed Fenn without trouble. It was almost synonymous. Fenn equaled trouble. And not because he started it, but because it started in front of him and, being the person he is, he had to step in. He drew his bow.

This could be a long night.

OoC: Yeahhh. I'm waiting. >:]

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

As Tera neared the hut, she saw that it was not quite as big as she had thought, and that in fact majority of what she saw was actually a dragon flying above the hut. She slowed her pace, weary of the dragon, and when Tera was a hundred or so feet away from the hut, she looked around again to see exactly what was here.

Above the hut of course was the dragon, which was probably more dangerous than its calm-blue color implied; and then she saw a pale-skinned person sheltering under the hut, who looked just as fearsome as she thought the dragon might actually be. There also seemed to be a few more black rocks than where Tera had ran from, and at a glance, one appearred to have a small tree growing from it.
"Trees can't grow in rocks can they?" Tera's curiosity briefly distracted her, "but wait... Oh crud, that's not a tree, it's a bow!"

Tera took cover behind the nearest boulder, hoping that neither the bowman nor the dragon had seen her; she was not worried about the woman in the hut, as she was focused on the bowman, but Tera still occasionally looked out, to see who would react to who first.

Knowing that this probably wouldn't turn out well, she prepared her staff...

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

Rudo was having a good time, he had several wineskins which he had "acquired" from the villagers in the last one, but the path was beginning to dematerialize into a sandy substance. He also noted it was getting considerably colder, ah well no problems, he was on the right track to Ristanbull, wasn't he.

Along he went, walking, and walking, till he saw a small house in the distance. He immediately played the tome of invisibility( it’s a song that uses illusion to make him invisible ) and walked up to it.

There was apparently someone in the hut, and another was approaching on the ground, while a powerful dragon followed. Then he saw that a man was hiding behind a rock as well, with a bow drawn, if worse came to worse this would be a very interesting battle, a dragon, her master, a bowman, and himself.

OoC: sorry its so short, its my first post. =P
EDIT: =P i forgot he cant see, so i cant use colors lol
*fixes*

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

Fenn watched as the woman dived, knowing that he had a bow. He sighed deeply, and called up on his magic, as he would probably need it. Slowly looking out from behind the tree, he drew an arrow and shot it out, not really aiming at anyone, just to see how they reacted. He now saw the dragon, on top of the hut. He was puzzled by it's presence. How would a dragon find itself all the way out here, in the deadlands? He knew not.

Advancing on the hut, he hid behind another rock, hoping that no one had seen him. Suddenly sensing another presence, and a fairly powerful one, at that, he turned his head once more to see nothing, really, but a slight shimmer in the air. What could this be? He could sense someone there...invisibility. It clicked in his head slowly. He wasn't dealing with regular looters or warriors here..this would be interesting.

He shot out another arrow towards where he felt the presence that he could not see, and was disappointed to see it thunk into the ground without hitting anything. Looking out back over the rocks, he prepared to see who would attack first.

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

Rudo just noticed the bowman looking at him . . . or not exactly at him but you get the point, in his general direction. Then in moments an arrow flies out at him, almost a direct hit.
'Damn, that was close' he thought to himself.

After that he was more careful about where he stood, and took in the power of his foes, and any apparent weaknesses. He noticed that the dragon, and since dragons cant take long without water. . . 'Ah a dragon, in some waterless place like this, ill make him have water, or what will appear to be water.'

Next he made it dead quiet, not sound whatsoever except for the beautiful melody in the air, the dragon turned its head and right in front of it was an illusion, this was not any ordinary illusion though, It was an illusion of water, and right in the middle was a hole. Plus in this hole was a huge spider he had seen moments ago . . .
Everyone attentions on the "magicly appearing water" and the beautiful melodies coming from his lyre . . .

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

OoC- Maybe I'm a perfectionist, but you should always remember to double-check the spelling, grammar and punctuation of your posts while RPing.

BiC- Tera saw the bowman fire an arrow high into the air, but was confused at why; surely he would realize that the wind would blow it away? Next the bowman had shot an arrow against the wind, close to the ground. The arrow flew straight and true, but at nothing; this person was confusing Tera greatly, "for someone so obviously skilled at using a bow, they aren't very smart."

While waiting for the bowman to waste another arrow, she decided to meditate to think about the problems she now faced. Within the void of her meditation however, a melody began to play quietly (OoC- like the background music of a game | BiC-), slowly breaking her focus. Finally, a particularly clear chord had her awake, and curious as to where the sound was coming from, as well as why it was playing. With the sound surrounding her, and no one could be seen playing any musical instruments, Tera decided that it would be easier to look for anything out of the ordinary, as maybe it was something inhuman creating the music, which led to her finding a pool of water which the dragon was carefully eyeing. Musing to herself that some water might come in handy in a wasteland such as this, she quickly dashed from behind one rock to another rock a few times, and when she was close enough, she tried to use the Bolo at her belt to absorb some water, but was surprised that the water level did not lower.

Knowing the practical infallibility of her Bolos, the unchanging water was quite a shock, and had brought her to her senses; "Hang on... there hadn't been a water spring there before... so it must be some kind of illusion!" Tera realized (as she knew the similar effect of mirages do not happen at such a close distance). Thinking about the water she didn't have also let her realize that it must have been put there for a purpose (and recently), "But why?.."

Tera attempted to meditate again.

OoC: Not much of an ending, but I'm sure you'll manage.
Oh, and DemonKing, your list of people at the end of one of your posts didn't include Tera ("a dragon, her master, a bowman, and himself"); hasn't your character seen Tera yet?

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

OoC: This post will be mostly OoC, but I will put some IC things in the form of Tera's meditation.

BiC: Within the deep recesses of her meditation, Tera thought about who posed a danger to her here in this wasteland.

The bowman was doing very curious behaviours; he fires arrows at nothing, and sneaks toward a dragon.
The dragon was dangerous (as all dragons are), but has not seemed to show it yet. It appears to be aligned with the woman inside the hut.
The pale-skinned woman was watching the bowman, but has not noticed the illusion her dragon friend was watching.
There was also another being who had created the illusion and the music, but has not been seen by Tera's eyes yet.

Content with her assessment of the situation, Tera ceased her meditation and looked at the others.

OoC: I've looked back over the posts so far, and there seems to be some confusion as to what the weather is by everyone:

Musical Zombie calls the place a deadland and said the following:
-A strange mist rises from the ground to shroud all things
-...the wind blew it (Fenn's cloak) at the edges,
-The wind howled overhead, chilling him to the bone.
-A storm was raging overhead; visibility was nearly down to zero.

Avyuir called this place a ghostland and said:
-Oh no, this wind. It's a razor wind!

Tera was introduced to this place as a "plainland", but it was really a wasteland (This is me here)
-The sun was setting
-the winds picked up speed,
-...before the wind tore her to pieces.
-...lightning...which was quickly dissapated by the strong wind,
-...saw something in the distance, only visible due to the reflection of light from the setting sun,

DemonKing saw the location has being "sandy" and said:
-...it was getting considerably warmer,

I later noted:
-...the wind would blow it (an arrow) away?

Also some misc. aspects of the location which need to be remembered:
*Tera is in an invisible bubble of low air pressure
*There is an illusory pool of water nearby
------------------------------
There seem to be some contradictions in all this, even looking at just musical zombie's introductory post (mist & a howling wind wouldn't be nearby to eachother)
What is the real sitution?

Oh, and I suggest not changing the situation until avyuir has posted again. It's only fair.

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

OoC: There is no mist. I was lying. xD There's lots of wind, though. Not warm, cold, and there is no sun at the moment.

BiC: Fenn's eyes flicked to the side as he saw the woman run swiftly over out of view. He swore silently, and concentrated on the dragon. What was it doing here, anyways? It was blue, and he could only assume that meant water. Water? Way out here? What? He didn't quite know what was going on, but he would soon come to the bottom of it.

A strange melody was playing in the air, seeming to drown out other sounds, and it was starting to make his head spin. He concentrated solely on the source, but he really couldn't find one. He then tried to find where the energy was coming from. There was a presence, straight out in front of his rock.

"Show yourself!" He called out from behind the rock.

Not having a reply, he sighed. People were never obliged to listen to those who were usually right, or at least in his mind they weren't. Fenn peeked out over the rock. There it was again, that strange shimmering in the air. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see the other woman scamper back to a hiding place after emerging from wherever she had gone.

The dragon seemed to be staring blankly at a place he could not see. Circling, he dodged swiftly to another rock, seeing a strange pool of water. So this is what that woman and the dragon had been at. Something didn't seen right, though. Water, all the way out here? It couldn't be.

Fenn drew an arrow, and shot it towards the dragon, not really trying to hit it, but seeing how it would react. The wind buffeted it but it flew, for the most part, true and whizzed to the left side of the dragon's head. It seemed unphased, and kept staring at the pool of water. Fenn heaved a sigh. This would be a long night.

OoC: Remember to take into account the wind of everything you do. Sorry about the mist, I wasn't thinking straight. X D

OoC only: Fair enough I guess; who wants to kick her out of the story? (I know that I can't think of a way to get rid of the dragon without killing anyone. Not without unnatural coincidences anyway.)

EDIT: If nobody can think of anything, I think that I have found a way to get rid of Ryoko & the dragon, but I wasn't intending to give Tera this ability yet, So I would prefer not to need to use it.

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

OoC: DemonKing, you can get rid of your response; mine is not only longer, but it advances the story of my character. (Sorry avyuir, but I have to use your characters to do it)

BiC: Ryoko was tired of waiting for somebody else to make the first move.

"Biconne, it's time to go!" Ryoko yelled to her dragon through the wind.

Ryoko noticed that Biconne was not reacting to her, so she carefully left the hut she had sheltered from the wind in, and saw that the dragon was focused on a pool of water nearby, "That hadn't been there before, had it?"

She then saw a young human crouching near the pool, and came to the conclusion that it was this woman who had created the likely dangerous water, "I'll show her!"

Ryoko called to Biconne to get rid of the human by the water. Happy to get closer to the water, the dragon complied and flew at the woman.

Tera heard a few yells coming from the nearby hut; she looked up over the rock she was hiding behind and saw that the dragon was coming straight at her! Thinking quickly, Tera decided that her best bet would be to absorb the illusion and redirect it to frighten the dragon.

Quickly drawing in the illusion into the Bolo at her belt and reforming it into a mirror facing the dragon, the dragon tried to slow down, but was not fast enough. The dragon entered the illusion and disappeared from sight completely. The dragon's master then ran in after her, fearing for the dragon's safety, but she too disappeared.

Tera, wondering where they went, jumped in after them.

Tera saw nothing except the dragon, its master and herself. Tera slowly realized that she was floating within a void. There was no color, not even black or white; there was no sense of time or space; the dragon was somehow simultaeneously the furthest away from her, yet also the closest.

Suddenly, the dragon and its master disappeared; and fearing this might happen to herself, Tera willed herself out of the mirror illusion she had created.

Once again in the wasteland with the bowman, Tera took shelter. Briefly glancing back to where she had created the mirror, Tera saw her reflection... but it was not a reflection; it did not have her staff, and nor did it mirror the actions Tera made. Confused, Tera told her reflection that it should try to find another way out. The reflection floated away.

So that no one would fall into the mirror, Tera used most of the air pressure she had absorbed to create an impassable barrier around the mirror.

Tera looked back at the bowman, ready for whatever came next.

OoC: Just so you know, the mirror which Tera made is actually a portal which can take a person anywhere, although nobody (including Tera) knows this yet. The portal is made out of illusory 'magic' which Tera will absorb again at the end of this RP, so she can study it. (and later use it whenever she wants to) I'll put this into the character profile after we're done with this topic.
And yes, Tera still has an invisible bubble of low air pressure around her.
Also, the illusion of the pool is now gone. It can be made again, although that is rather pointless.

Oh, and my tip for your sig DemonKing was helpful, yes?

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

OoC: Word to that.

BiC: Fenn watched as the strange events unfolded, one after another people disappeared and then one reappeared, the woman who had created the strange void. Fenn had seen things like this, strange, arcane things, but had never dabbled in this sort of magic and didn't quite want to. Fenn drew up his magic, and shrouded himself in wind; all that could be seen were strange black shapes and darkness. Making sure he was completely hidden, he ran to the hut and took a knee inside it, ducking away from the wind and peeking out from the window. He needed that invisible one to show itself so that he could know what he was up against.

"Show yourself!" he once again called out, seemingly to no one. He drew a knife.
This would be a long, long night.

OoC: DemonKing's turn. : D

Re: (Anyone, only 4-5 characters) The Deadlands

This was becoming very interesting, every second posed something new, and he liked it.
The woman with the strange circles somehow took his illusion, and using his knowledge on the arcane arts of illusion he deduced that what she had made was a small portal to anywhere you wanted to go, will yourself to be there and you will.

Then he noticed the bowman, presumably an elf, quietly run into the hut, then yell out "Show yourself."

He then walked up to the window of the hut and said
"Why hello their how are you, nice weather where having, is it not?"

After speaking he took off his veil, and waved at the man, and the strange woman, then looking forwards the woman he said

"Why hello their pretty lady, I don't believe I got your name?".....

after waiting several seconds and not getting an answer he told them both

"Well anyway greetings, I am Rudo. I would like to examine those very intriguing circles of yours. Very interesting, sucking up my illusion, and changing it. Tell you what, give me one and ill tell you what my poor little illusion became?"

OoC: lets get this party ooowwn!
