The Siege of Topaz

OoC: This is my first time using my second BA character, Matthew, so it's just a fight for me to get used to using him. Its a one-on-one fight.

BiC: Matthew dodged out of the way of an incoming fireball as he surveyed how the war was going. He had been hired as a mercenary for the siege of Topaz, which had been going on for a week now. The enemy city Kazuz set up siege on Topaz, and they needed more reinforcements to drive the offenders back. They had hired Matthew, and about a few hundred other mercenary's to bolster their forces. It paid well, and so Matthew accepted.

It seemed that Topaz was winning the war. They were driving the armies of Kazuz back. But then, someone came into the battle from the Kazuz side. Matthew didn't get a good look at the person, but he had a feeling that he or she was someone of incredible power. The new solider stepped into the fray, and that's when things started to go bad for Topaz. The figure darted back and forth, slaying people left and right, killing many, many soldiers, until he or she had driven the entire Topaz army back. Matthew jumped thirty feet into the air to get a better view. The mystery soldier was wearing a standard issue Kazuz helmet, but it was obviously uncomfortable. The soldier was staring up at Matthew, who was now about twenty-five feet up, and motioned for him to go to a hill about a ten minute walk away. Matthew started walking, aware that if he slayed this particular soldier, he would get a lot of money.

Matthew got to the hill, and started to climb. When he reached the top of the hill, he found the mystery soldier waiting for him. The soldier removed its helmet, and Matthew came face to face with Kazuz's finest.

Re: The Siege of Topaz

OoC; Kazaisu link in sig.

BiC:

“Well that was boring,” The figure mused to himself waiting for his opponent to find his way up, “Never killed a single one, but they wont be up for a while,” Impatiently the caped figure walked back, and forth across the grassy hill. “Why do I agree to do this for next to nothing,” Sighing he watched gentle grass sway back, and forth, dancing their beautiful dance with the wind, “Hmm, he’s here”

Turning around he saw the figure through his extremely aggravating mask. A young boy he guessed, no older then fifteen, by ones sight he could not see any abnormalities, just a normal kid. Yet when digging a bit deeper he could feel a strange power emitting from his body, not the strongest he had ever felt, by the weirdest. Matthew in his wisdom spoke a few words of welcome, but his mystery solider did not reply, instead the masked figure grabbed his stuffy helmet, and removed it revealing his face.

The man’s gray eyes seemed to sparkle with the new challenge, as he brushed his blond hair out of his eyes. All the while a wind swept up his blue cape revealing its glory, “You just can’t talk in those things,” He laughed abruptly, then stopped staring sternly into the young eyes of his opponent, “I think you must be mistaken child, I was motioning for a much taller person, “

“What the hell where like the same height!” The boy said his eye twitching.

“Yeah but usually they put up more of a fight when their taller,”

“Your insane,”

“Gladly,” The Man bowed slightly, then stood back up, “If it is a fight you want, then doing other wise would be difficult, I am Kazaisu the Archmage of wind, The bringer of Storms, And the master of the waves,”

“Long title, but how do you plan to fight without a weapon,” Matthew sneered, moving his legs further apart into a fighting pose.

“Oh deery me, it seems I have forgotten something, Excuses me a sec,” turning his back, he bent over to make it appear as though he was searching through something in the grass. Now Matt Deciding the money he would receive was far greater then the code he would be breaking chose to attack the man’s back. Charging forward he lashed down hard with his katana, now here is when the fun starts, as soon as the speeding steel made contact with the man’s cape, Matthew was sent flying backwards by an unknow force, landing hard on his back with a resounding thud. Then standing up as if nothing happened the man turned to see what had befallen his opponent.

“Rule one,” he said with a strangely twisted smile, “Always expect the unexpected, further more expect the expected if the unexpected doesn’t happen, just to be safe,”

“What are you blabbering about?” Matt groaned picking himself back to his feet.

“Elementary,” The Archmage laughed at the boys aggravated look, “You strut up here expecting me to be a great swords man, and I bet you even thought of several strategy’s to defeat said swords man. But you completely ignored the prospect of me being something other, and you believe I would let my guard down so quickly. Silly little boy, I wield no weapon, but my words, I need naught your physical means of battle, for mine are far more useful, now…dance” As the man of wind spoke with rapid movements of his left hand, o distract the boy he rose his other into the air, and about halfway through several arrows, made completely of ice surrounded it, unbeknownst to the kid, that at the last second he sent them flying towards the boy, who as a reaction leapt out of the way in a humorous fashion.

“What the…”

“Magic, now bring it on, your boring me,”

Re: The Siege of Topaz

Mmm... Maybe the money isn't worth it. Maybe I should back down right now, and keep my life. So thought Matthew as he awkwardly dodged several ice arrows. But then Matthew had a sudden thought. Maybe... of course! Matthew stood, arms spread to his side, ready to summon armor.
"Ha! Is the little boy going to play dress-up?" teased the archmage, as more Ice Arrows began forming around his hand.

Matthew smiled. "Not dress-up. Legendary dress-up," and with that, the beastplate of Archmis, a legendary chestplate with magic powers, appeared on him. Then, the legendary warhammer Vallua appeared in his hand.

"You can barely lift that heavy thing!"

Matt grinned. "That's the point."

He then jumped high into the air, until he was but a speck against the sun.

Kazaisu squinted up in the sky, wondering how those weapons had appeared. He knew he had absorbed the knowledge of the hammer and breastplate somewhere, he just couldn't place his finger on it.

Matthew was now about a mile up, and was preparing his strategy. He saw the war below, just a small dot against the ground now... then he started to fall. At first it was slow, but then began to pick up speed rapidly. Dodging stray arrows, he put all his might into falling.

Now Kazaisu was sure something was up. He waited for Matthew to get close enough, about 20 feet off the ground, and fired his ice arrows. They sailed through the air, and met with Matthew at ten feet. They suddenly veered of course, and a round circle of blue appeared on Matt's chestplate. They got sucked straight into the disk, dissappering. Matthew was now five feet away from the ground, and the Breast plate of Archimis's disk dissapered. Matthew came down at a huge force, Vullau directly above Kazaisu's head. But Kazaisu wasn't scared. His wind knock back the boy as soon as the hammer so much as touched his hair, Right? Wrong.

The wind blew through Matt's air at a huge force, slowing him down dramatically, but after about three suspensful seconds, Matthew broke through and swung Vallua at the archmage's head. It hit with a satisfing THWAK! Matthew then kicked Kazaisu's stomach, setting of the wind again and flying Matthew back to a safe distance. Kazaisu looked stunned as he held his blood stained hair.

"H-how?"

"The chestplate absorbed your Ice Arrows, sending them to god knows where, and I had jumped really high, that combined with falling with such a heavy hammer allowed me to gather enough speed to break through your gale. Expect the unexpected." Matthew sneered as he de-summoned the heavy hammer, instead just going with his nice, light, plain old Katana. Time to teach this man a lesson. Don't mess with a guy who can use time to his advantage.

Re: The Siege of Topaz

“Unless the expected happens,” Kaze made sure he finished, as he scratched the part of his head the hammer had struck, ‘Nice shot, lucky for me the wound has already healed, Magic of course, a healing spell, really you should have expected that. I guess its time for lesson two,” The Archmage brought his hands together, as if to pray, and as commanded the earth shook violently, causing the younger to stumble, but catch himself before he fell. “I will admit you got to lesson two far faster then the others,”

“Enough chit chat,” the younger charged forward slashing high for the head, and without so much as a second thought Kazaisu brought up his hand. With a flashy light show ice not only stopped the blow, but engulfed the entire blade up to the hilt,

“Look before you leap, don’t go flaunting your abilities before you test your opponents,” With a swing of his left hand the Archmage summoned a single Ventus Vesica towards the boys stomach. The blade of wind cut up the boys stomach, and sent him flying backwards, shattering the ice around his blade. Landing with a thud, he rolled out of it, and landed back on his feet, with his weapon holding hand holding the ground. Looking up through his hair, he gave a deathly glare before charging again.

“Still leaping,” Kazaisu mocked as he leapt over the boy’s stab. Then doing a cartwheel in mid air he landed beside Matt, and gave a hard palm thrust to his face. Shaken, but not actually hurt he slashing sideways, but the man just made a tiny leap backwards causing the blade to swipe right in front of him. Still continuing the attack the younger turned his blade to a backhand position stabbed backwards. With the tip moving closer, Kaze made a rash decision, forming a Darkness Magi shield to his right hand only he placed it on the oncoming blade, and using the blade for support did a one handed front hand spring over the blade. Noticing he would end up in front of his opponent with his back facing, he while finishing the handspring did a landing kick to the boy’s knees causing him to do somewhat of a face dive towards the ground.

Instead of falling straight to his face the boy used the momentum to make a shaky flip landing in a kneeling position. As his caped opponent turned around Matthew leapt up, with his blade pointed towards his opponents chin. Kaze’s silvery eyes saw the sparkle of metal just in time, and in reaction did a smooth backhand spring, causing the katana to miss by just centimeters. The Archmage stopped several feet back his hair flowing lightly with the wind. Sigh he laughed a little and looked towards the obviously angry boy. The grass wavered from side to side as the two just stared at each other, it was already getting dark, the sun would soon set which could add a different aspect to the battle in question.

“Hey you almost got me there, wanna play some more,”

“Stop mocking me…”

“Or what? You use your little trick, and summon another weapon, more powerful then the last. Yeah can’t say I’m that scared, how much they paying you to take me down anyways?”

“None of you business,”

“No need to be snotty about, impudent little runt,”

“Enough, time for me to win,” the boy said his katana glowing brightly, and changing shape.

Re: The Siege of Topaz

A gleaming Sunsword appeared, after Matthew had sheathed his katana. The Sunsword once belonged to the founder of Flaris, the city Matthew was born in, and was said to have great and terrible power. Then, in his other hand, the Lunersword took form. It was the sister of the Sunsword, wielded once by the brother of the founder of Flaris. Both blades were forged by a powerful magician, who was so powerful that he transported himself to a planet far away in fear that he might hurt people accedently with his might. Each sword could rip holes in space when used by the right people. Sadly, Matt was not the right person, and could not use the full extent of the power trapped in the blade. Matthew raised the sword, and charged at his opponent.

"Fangs of Stars!" he yelled as the sword's obeyed his command. With a bang, a black shockwave and a light shockwave emitted from the swords and blew Kazaisu back, making
him fall head over heels on the ground. He groaned an picked himself up. Matthew raised his swords, ready to strike again.

Re: The Siege of Topaz

“Nice work kid,” Kaze groaned, as he lifted himself to his feet, “However, those cheep parlor tricks may amuse a circus crowd, but you are dealing with a real mage, who knows real magic,” Kaze brought up his arms to a boxing position, “Allow me to try something new,” The boy didn’t seemed that amused at the speech, but he did seemed intrigued by the man’s knew spell, so he kept still, his eyes weary.

“Go on,”

“The artic wind freezes as far as any eye can see, what is this pain, this destiny, Water- Frozen touch” Kaze muttered as he threw his black gloves to the ground leaving him bare handed. The air suddenly grew cold, and Matthew could see his breath in a frozen puff of smoke. Not only that as he watched Kaze he saw the same frozen puff swirl around Kazaisu. The frozen air swirled, becoming more dense, and moved towards his hands till it was but a blue swirl surrounding his hands, as the weather returned to normal.

“Ok now what,”

“We play,” Quickly the Archmage dropped to one knee, placing his right hand on the ground. Of course matt looked on in confusion, till he felt a strange chill be his feet, when he looked he saw a most unpleasant sight a frozen trail of grass, starting from the icy hand of Kaze, all the way to his now frozen over feet. Yes his feet where sealed in a block of thick ice, securely fastened to the ground. The wide-eyed small pupil boy looked up in amazement, to see that Kaze was already upon a frozen blad dawned in his left hand.

“What,” The boy quickly brought up his blades in an “x’ shape catching the ice blade in the middle.

“Don’t look so surprised,” Pushing forward with the blade of ice that engulfed his left arm, “I play for keeps,” he grunted as the tip of the frozen weapon inched closer to the young warriors eye, “If you can’t keep up,” The blade was so close at this point, the chill of the blade was so cold that his eyes started to water, “I’ll let you leave, and spare your life,” So close that it was actually pushing against his eye lash, “Wouldn’t want to lose an eye would we,”

“Nice try,” The boy grunted, pushing the icy blade back slightly, “But not enough, Fangs of stars,” The shockwave sent Kaze flying head over heals again, but this time Kaze had scouted the attack, in mid air he launched one of his patented Ventus Viscera. The air blade ripped through the blood stained air, connecting hard into the boys chest sending him backward shattering the ice that frozen him down. Both warriors landed hard on their backs skidding in different directions.

“****,” Kaze mumbled holding his back as he stood up, “I’ve fallen down to many times today,” looking towards the boy who was at the opposite end of the grassy hill they stood on he gave a very, very creepy smile. Dropping to one knee he once again placed his right hand on the ground, but Matt saw this coming, running forward before he was robbed of that privilege. As the boy charged forward he saw the ice trail stop directly in front of him, so with some fancy footwork he dodged the ice spike that emerged from the ground. Charging forward, he had to imaginatively maneuver out of the way of four more spikes, before he was close enough for a physical attack, slashing downward with both blades, Kaze was just fast enough to block with his ice blade that he still kept intact. with both blades

“Not…good…enough,” He panted. It was then one would figure the boy came to realize something, every spell he used slowly tired him out, the stronger, or faster the spells where used or manipulated the more it drained him, those ice spikes moved faster then kaze freezing his feet, so it took more energy.

“I spy with my little eye…a weakness,” The boy taunted, pushing harder.

“I’m…just…getting started,’ he said engaging in a staring contest with the boy, one matt had to return. The tow stared as the each tried to gain the upper hand, and get their blade through the others. They did that for what seemed like hours, but in reality, was about five minutes, which is considerable time for any battle.

“Haven’t you noticed something,” Kaze said with a smile, his cold eyes piercing into his opponents, “Aren’t you getting cold?” A sly smile crossed his face, as Matthew just listened, “Aren’t they freezing,”

“They…they are,” Looking down he saw a sight that made him cringe, his hands where engulfed in ice, seemed that while the two where locking blades, he had used that time to freeze his opponents hands to his blades, and his blades to his, which was attached to his arm. Standing to his feet, matt had no choice but to follow, even as he rose Kaze rose his left arm, both of Matthew’s swords followed.

“Looks like I get a free shot,” He said smashing the younger in the gut with his free hand, as Matthew struggled desperately to free himself, “Keep trying it wont do any good,” Socking him again, Matthew could feel his knees weaken, but even if he wanted to he couldn’t fall down, “Hurts don’t it,” it wasn’t just the open full force punch to the gut that hurt, which would kill anyways if done right, it was also that with every punch it froze his stomach, then an froze as he backed off causing it to sting as well, the boy could feel himself getting nauseous after the third punch, but as the arm went back for the third, he got an idea.

“Fangs of stars!” The shock wave was s powerful it not only sent Kaze flying, but shattered his ice blade, and most of the ice around Matt’s arm, but as soon as their bond was broken Matt fell to the ground like a limp rag doll, immediately grabbing his throbbing gut, he knew it wouldn’t really make it hurt less, but it was a first reaction. Kaze landed hard on the ground…again making him see stars. Slowly both warriors got up, still raring to fight, but both significantly injured.

Re: The Siege of Topaz

Matthew held up his hand, and the weapons de-summoned in a flash. This was part of his new plan. To fight fire with fire. Matthew rolled back his sleeves, and put his hands through the folds of his shirt. He drew out ten shurikans, all extremely sharp, and threw all of them at once towards Kaze. The archmage easily dodged them, but realized too late what was happening. The shurikans pinned Kaze's cloths down against a nearby tree, and embedded t themselves deeply into it. It would take awhile to get them out. Matthew pulled back his arms, and soon a bright blue ball of energy swirled in his hands. Kaze was almost done pulling out the shurikans. One more...there! He had done it. But too late. Matthew brought his hands together, and a huge beam of blue light was sent straight from Matthew's hands to Kaze. The archmage himself held out his hands in a sort of reflex, and the light disappeared into them.
Matthew looked at Kaze's hands.

"The magic inside you must be countering my spell. No matter. Ill just apply more force."

The beam suddenly got brighter, and Kaze was pushed back a bit. But he quickly recovered and something strange happened. A green beam came out of Kaze's hands, pushing the blue one back. When Kaze applied more energy, he found that the push of his beam increased. So now they were in a struggle. Kaze was better at magic than Matt, but this magic was less familiar to him then Matthew, who used it often. It seemed everytime one of the beams came close to the other person, the other person just applied more energy into the beam and pushed it more into his favor. This used up a lot of energy, and since they were both tired already, it was extremely tiring for both of them. Eventually, they both just collapsed from exhaustion. The beams faded into nothing. For a long time they just sat there, so tired it hurt to breath, but they finally forced themselves to get back up. There was a battle to fight.
