The Earth Eater

OoC: A quest for up to three people.

I'm going to use Stitches in this one. Haven't used her lately. Decided to use her.

BiC:

The town of Balligar used to be a happy, peaceful village. However, ever since the Dead Sun siezed control of Daileon, Balligar was nothing but a ghost town. Burnt buildings were seen from either side of the street. Old, broken carriages and rubble dotted the sidewalks. Nothing remained... However, this wasn't really the case...

---------------------------------

Stitches was walking along the road, hoping to eventually come across the ferry that would take her to the Daileon Capital City, where she would confront the Dead Sun itself. She had already been traveling for several hours, and was quite hungry.

She kept searching for any place that looked like it might provide shelter or food for the night. She eventually saw what looked like the remains of a small village. She walked up to the village, and came across a large sign that read, "Balligar- Village of Green Grasses." Stitches stopped reading the sign, and entered the village.

It was dirty and deserted. Stitches sighed; there was no inn or anything around here. Stitches turned around, and was about ready to leave, until she spotted something in the distance. Inside one of the old houses, she spotted the movement of a shadow. Someone was there.

Stitches started to walk towards the house. Before she walked through the door, she saw a small sentence written on the door. "The Home of the Earth Eater", Stitches read aloud. Stitches then glanced inside the house, and noticed small patches of dirt everywhere. She slowly walked inside.

Stitches payed close attention to the surroundings. There was an old, broken stairway. There was a dirty old door with a lock on it. There were strange paintings of toads on the main wall.

Stitches approached the Toad Paintings. She stared at them for a little while, but suddenly floor collapsed. Stitches fell through a large whole in the ground, and fell in to a small cell underneath the old village. She looked around, and saw several paintings of toads covering the walls, and a couple of giant footprints.

Stitches turned around to face the inside of her cell, to notice that she wasn't the only captive...

Re: The Earth Eater

OoC: Hey Andross. I got a new character, trying to get him into a quest. i will be using Witer. link in sig

Witer struggled to grab his pack sitting right outside the cell, his steel fingers clinking against the cell bars, his small green arms stretching for all they were worth. Just then, the floor opened up and Witer drew back his hand and covering his eyes. He heard a small "oof!", and he removed his hand and his seeing adjusted to the dark, His eyes glowing an eerie yellow.

"Whoareyoulittlegirly?" Witer asked speedily. He could see her ok, but he knew she couldn't see him. He reached again and felt his steel fingers grasp his flare.

Stiches saw a pair of yellow eyes glowing and then a voice, but she couldn't make it out well. She heard some clinking and a scratch and then a red flare ignited, lighting the cell with a warm, friendly glow.

Witer gasped when he saw a small doll before him, and he poked it.

"OW! don't you poke me you goblin!" The doll said. Witer tryed to pick her up but he got a slap to the hand.

"Leave me alone!" the doll said and glared at him.Witer looked down, rubbing his hand. She was stronger than she seemed.

"Isorrymiss, inotknowyoulive.Ihopeyouforgiveme, meno thurtyou" Witer said a bit slower and sincerely, hoping the doll girl would understand and accept his apology.

She looked around, but then looked up and smiled. "I accept your apology, i am" but as she was about to introduce herself, there were grunts from up above and the floor began to open...

OoC: Yeah. You can post when you get the chance.

BiC:

Stitches was about ready to ask who this new person was, but something else caught her eye. With a little shudder, she noticed that some large, wet object had ran across the room, and in to the other room. There was a still silence.

Stitches decided to continue the conversation she was having. "I am Stitches. Who are you two?" she asked. "MeWiter", the goblin responded. "I am Emir, a Warlord. I-" as Emir tried to finish what she was saying, another creepy movement occured in the large, underground cavern.

An eerie old man walked out from the other side of the room. Half of his face seemed to be missing, and he had scars all over his body. The only clothes he wore consisted of a hood, a cape, and some old, torned shorts. "Who are you?" Stitches asked, loudly.

"AHH, wE hAVe sOMe nIce vIsItOrs, I sEE... EArth EAtEr wIll reWARd JAklAr gOOd..." the creepy old man said as he wandered over to the cell. "ErHH? A gOb, hUmAN ANd..." Jaklar said, as he looked at Stitches. He grabbed Stitches by the belly and tore off a small piece of fabric, causing Stitches to jump back in pain. "... DOll? WEll, a tOy for EArth EAter, I gUEss..." Jaklar said. Jaklar turned around, and started to walk towards a door. However, he dropped a key by accident.

Emir noticed the key, and pointed it out. Stitches had just finished repairing herself, and reached for the key with her extendable arms. She brought the key back, and unlocked the cell door. The three got out, and walked through one of the doors. It led to another large cavern, filled with old barrels. "Maybewecheckmoredoors..." Witer suggested. The group agreed that the only way to get out of the area was to search every room.

However, the cavern seemed to be a huge system of connected caves, and it would take a while to get out. Even worse, an ominous presence seemed to be watching them, moving swiftly through the tunnels, as well. And, they would most likely come across Jaklar again, and probably other figures similiar to him...

Re: The Earth Eater

((OoC: Here we go.))

Balligar-Village of Green Grasses.

The day was coming to an end, the air cooling down steadily as the sun drew ever closer to the bottom of the horizion. Though it had been breezy earlier, as Faolan had approached the sign at the edge of the town, the breeze had ominously stopped. He layed it down to coincidence, but he had to admit that it was a strangely fitting one. Almost like the cliche thunder and rain in the inevitable final showdown between a paladin and a dragon of the tales he used to love as a child.

The sign trumpeted the name of the town and its title, but the town itself was an ominous antithesis to what the sign implied. Well, mused Faolan, the grass is green at least. The young wanderer scanned the place, which was totally devoid of life besides himself and the aforementioned plant life.

“Hello?” he asked loudly to the ghost town in general as he stepped into it. He actually didn’t expect a reply, but a slight chill went down his spine at the lack of life nonetheless. He kept walking, peeking into alleys and inside dirty, decrepit buildings. After a fruitless search for life, he sat down against a particularly eerie building.

Suddenly, he heard some sort of scuffling from inside the building. Faolan shot up, hand on the hilt of his sword.

“Hello? ...Anybody there?” He asked tentatively. With no response, he walked to the doorway of the house. It was in a terrible state of disrepair; broken stairs, dust everywhere, as well as large mounds of dirt. Glancing at the open door, he noticed words scrawled on it.

“Home of the Earth Eater...” he whispered to himself. Maybe they’re a wizard? “Anybody in here?” Still no answer came from the hollow home. “I’m not here to hurt you.” He kept walking forward, when suddenly a few odd mushroom paintings caught his eye. A moment of inattention was all it took.

The floor opened up beneath Faolan and with a cry, he suddenly found himself sprawled out on cold, hard stone, aching all over. Cursing, he pulled himself to his feet unsteadily. He was bleeding in several places, but nothing major, and nothing was broken. He was good to go.

As he brushed himself off, he suddenly became aware of a trio standing at the mouth of a tunnel, looking back at him. Two of them were quite short, one of whom dashed toward Faolan and looked him up and down.

“Ohlookanotherone! Isyouhurtmisterhumanboy!?” the goblin chattered excitedly. Faolan took a step back – most goblins wanted to kill him – but if he heard this one right (no mean feat), he was actually concerned.

“Huh?” was the only nonplussed reply Faolan could coax out of himself. The other two figures stepped forward. One was a heavily-armed female human and the other was...

A doll?

“Well, looks like we’ve got another one.” Said the woman. Faolan stood blankly for a moment, looking around.

“Yeah... er, I’m Faolan.” He said, trying to sound official or something close. He bowed deeply to the trio. “What exactly is going on here?” he asked after another moment.

"That would probly be a good idea!"

"Witer, if you don't be quiet, the creepy old man will come back and lock us up again!"

The goblin shut up right that instant.

"Would you like out." Emir joked.

The key turned easily and the cell door opened. She greeted him with a friendly smile.

"May I ask your name?"

“Yeah... er, I’m Faolan.” He said, trying to sound official or something close.

"Well than Faolan, don't sound soo former. Lets try to find a way out!!

Re: The Earth Eater

Stitches and the group entered another room. This one had a large library, and barrels near the walls.

Faolan approached the bookshelf, and grabbed a particularly large one. He looked through the old pages, but they were all blank. He closed the book and put it back on the shelf. The only thing that can be made out was the cover, which depicted a strange, smiling figure.

Emir picked up another one. She read aloud the only words, which were on the inside, on the very last page. "Earth Eater, lead us to the Demon Soul. There, the serpent will play its role." Emir said, aloud. The group looked at her as she put the book back. However, as she put it back, the bookshelf started to vibrate.

Both sides of the wall seemed to drag the bookshelves in. It revealed a large painting. The painting depicted several people surrounding a giant toad. The bottom of the painting depicted a large three-eyed, smiling face. Both the toad and the face gave off a disturbing aura.

The group gazed at the large painting, until a strange breeze, with a fast, moving sound, caught their attention. They turned around, but saw nothing. "Methinkweleavethisroom..." Witer suggested. The group agreed, and they exited the room.

They entered another room. They walked a little while, until they suddenly stopped. In front of them was a strange-looking man, seemingly made out of a metal coat. The man, or thing, was trying to operate a couple of levers. The thing turned it's head, to reveal a strange mask. It was a rusted piece of metal with only to eyes, and a smiling mouth. It seemed to be bolted in to the thing's head, because of the several protruding knobs and screws. However, just as the thing started to walk forward, the lift that it was standing on carried it to the lower floor.

The group could here high-pitched screams from the floor below. "I know! Maybe the Earth Eater thing got him!" Stitches exclaimed. "How are we going to get down there, though?" Emir asked. They decided to look for some sort of alternate route the floor below.

Re: The Earth Eater

How are we going to get down there?

"Hey guys, what about using the same way that we used to get onto this floor level?"

They 4 looked around. Perhaps that was not such a good idea. Emir continued to walk around. While she was walking around, she accidentaly pulled down a light torch. As she pulled it down, a secret entrance opened up. Well would you look at that.

"Hey guys, I think I found our way to that guy!"

They all nodded on this way down. They all ran down the corridor. Emir was the last to run down.

OoC: srry bout the shortness.

Re: The Earth Eater

As the wall slid back, Faolon bravely went forward, followed by Witer and Stitches. Emir slipped in as the wall slammed shut and the darkness felt heavy as they stood in the dark passage. A small "clink" was heard and Witer's torche hissed to life. The red light filled the passage way and Faolon walked slowly on the trail. Pictures of mushrooms dotted the walls, and they stopped to examine them. Witer took a metallic finger and rubbed in on one, smearing the mushroom's red dotted cap. He sniffed it and then wiped it on his pants.

"Thismushroomchalk!" he said. A sound came from down the hallway, and the group turned their heads. breathing was heard down the hall, raspy and labored, and it was very loud. Stiches put on a brave face and pushed faolon in the back of the legs.

"Lets go Mr. knight" She said. Faolon started down the hall, and the breathing got louder and louder. a light shown through ahead and they started walking faster. As they reached it, the light shown through a small glass window in a large steel door. Sparks sprayed on the inside of the room, but nothing else could be seen, the owner obviously didn't care about smudged windows.

Re: The Earth Eater

The group walked in. To their disappointment, nobody was there. Nobody to be seen. "Whataboutallthebreathing?" Witer asked. "This is too weird..." Stitches replied. They looked around the room.

It was old, and metals and strange objects were on the counters. Sparks flew up from one of the strange, metal counters. The group started to approach one of the counters, until something caught their eyes.

A large painting, similiar to the previous one, was spotted on one of the walls. However, it was much more detailed. It depicted a giant, grisly snake with three dark, empty eyesockets. It had a somewhat human face, and a beak-like nose. It's mouth curled in to a malevolent smile.

Stitches started to shiver. Witer started to mutter frantically. Faolon kept quiet. Emir stepped forward, but her foot sunk in to the ground. Suddenly, the floor started to crack, and they all fell down, in to a deeper chamber.

Luckily, they landed in some thick mud, cushioning their fall. They could spot Jaklar off in the distance, of a large cave. "Ahh, mAstER wOUldn't dO thIs..." he said. On closer inspection, Jaklar was circling a dead body. However, it was not the smiling-mask man that they had seen earlier. It was a body, seemingly in a state deeper than death. It's eyes were pitch black and the body was as pale as snow.

Suddenly, Jaklar got up. "MAstER?" he asked. Suddenly, a giant, earthen, amorphous monstrosity jumped forth. It looked vaguely like a toad.

Re: The Earth Eater

Faolan lay perfectly still, observing the scene unfolding alarmingly close to the group. The... thing – he couldn’t think of a name for it – didn’t seem aware of their presence. Which, as far as he could tell, was probably a good thing. A few long, agonizing moments passed, in which Jaklar and the thing seemed to converse heatedly.

“wHy?!” exclaimed Jaklar in his odd manner of speaking as the thing seemed to look away. Faolan sensed the opportunity.

“Let’s move!” he hissed, and the four of them got to their feet as quietly as possible and scampered away. After a few paces, they collectively broke into a run, attempting to put as much distance between themselves and the thing. They took a turn at random, and found themselves facing a narrower corridor. Charging forward, they soon came to a fork and Faolan instinctively went right. Then left, and right again, straight – Oh, no. Faolan realized. They were in a maze, and now they were lost.

At this point, they were at a four-way fork, and the group was looking around at each other.

“Where are we?” Stitches asked. Faolan looked around frantically. Good question.

“I... I have no idea,” he conceded, “but I don’t think we were spotted – let alone followed.” A moment of silence washed over them, and everyone was looking in different directions. Argh, Faolan berated himself inwardly, why didn't I think before randomly taking turns!?

“Methinkswego... left!” Witer decided.

“Which left?” Emir commented amusedly. Unfortunately, she was right; everyone had a different left. Witer hesitated a moment, realizing this.

“Thisleft!” The goblin exclaimed, pointing down a completely random corridor. Evidently everyone figured they didn’t have any better ideas, so they made their way down the corridor. After another right turn, they came to a plain wooden door. Stitches prodded Faolan playfully.

“You first, sir Knight,” she teased. Faolan half-grinned as he stepped up to the door slowly. Maybe it’s a way out, he mused hopefully. He pushed open the door and took a step-

-into nothingness. His foot continued its downward path into the void, pulling the rest of his body along with it. He’d already tumbled down several feet before he even realized what was going on and that he was already yelling. He bounced against the walls and rolled through small tunnels, finally shooting out a small opening and landing in a pile of dirt.

“Bloody-- ... owww,” he moaned as he rolled over onto his side. His back throbbed with ungodly pain. He faintly heard someone yelling his name, but his thoughts were too scattered to really realize it.

“Faolan!” It was Emir’s voice. He brought himself to his feet quickly and strode over to the opening, shrugging off the pain.

“Hey... I’m all right! I... had a relatively soft landing.” He shouted back.

“Oh, thank the gods!” he heard the echoes of the group quickly chatting to each other, then “What’s down there?” Faolan looked around in the dark. He couldn’t make out much and all that he could really see was the dirt mound. There had to be a door down here somewhere...

“Lots of dirt.” He called back up. There was another intermission of echoes from above.

“We’re coming down!” he heard Emir call.

“No, no! Wait!” Faolan cried, “There's... I can’t find an exit.” Another pause, more echoes. “You three find another way. Mark your path or something so I can catch up later. I’ll look around in here for a bit, then come back up.” Again with the echoes, and then Witer’s voice cut in.

“Okay! Icanmarkourpathwithpaint!” It took a moment for Faolan to make sense of the goblin’s excited gibbering.

“Okay, paint... what colour?”

“Ummm...orange!”

“Orange paint. Okay, meet up with you in a bit!” With that, he heard the echoes of footsteps walking away and the fading chatter between the remaining three. Faolan took another look around at the room, getting a feel for it. He slid down the dirt pile to one of the walls, and began following it around the perimeter of the room.

He began to lose sense of his location in the dark. Great, he thought. He promptly began stripping off his armour – it was less painful to transform that way.
