Finally got the scanner back! well anyway...heres a drawing i did of Snape.


critque PLEASE! I know theres things wrong like i made the face rather larger than it should but oh well.

Not bad at all, but there's a few things I'd like to point out. The forehead is a little too small. And the placing of your eyes is way off. They should be in the center of the face. What I do to help me with that is use light guidelines on the head shape and work from there. You're also right about the face being rather large.

Lastly, you should use more contrasting shading. I'm having trouble telling the darker areas from the lighter ones. xP

Actually ive noticed the eye on the right was a bit too off center. I am probably going to redraw Snape again because i am not really happy with how that turned out. Also i see i forgot to shade where the cloak lies near the middle part of the clothes.

That was Snape? I didn't read the entire post, so I missed you saying that.

Sorry lol. I'm no fan of Harry Potter, so that might be the reason I didn't recognize him.

Rubbish. the first one sucks. The only reason i keep it up is for comparisons sake. But thanks anyway

The face proportion is much better than in the first. However, I instantly recognized him as Snape in both versions.

It's a bit hard for me to see the body because of the scan, but I think he could use broader shoulders and a broader torso. I think that the neck should go a bit further back as well. His arm is also quite short in comparison to his head. Here is a nice example of hand-on-your-hip/in-your-pocket sort of pose just to give you an idea of how long the arm is.

All that said, I cannot stress how much I looove the likeness in the face.

Thanks. Yeah hes unfinished due to the fact i want to know whats wrong. Ive been mucking around with the shoulders a bit. I also been using this as a reference for the body.

I have bookmarked the link you gave since its pretty close to what i need!

I can't wait to see him when he's finished!

One thing I generally do even when working from a picture is measure my reference's body in terms of my reference's head and then do the same with my body and my head to see if it's proportioned correctly. This always helps me with the shoulder width, torso, hips, etc. since I start with the head first (This way I can make the body fit the head and I don't have to shrink the head down). Not sure if that helps you or if you already do that, but I thought I'd just throw that in just in case.

BAH! you don't know of what you speak! the colorful one is the best.

I too, must say I prefer the first one. Though the facial proportions are much more accurate on the second, I think the exaggerated ones of the first make it kind stylized. But perhaps if you were to color the second, then I'd like it more. Dunno.

I assure you the second one will be better. Im working on it now. Probably, by tomorrow, it'll be done.

Hate to point you out Loveable_Zelda, but folks, posts like these are not encouraged in the artwork section, when it comes to critiquing. Please, add a bit more detail to your posts. Small one liners will be deleted.

But, Florina, that's marvelous! It looks a bit unproportioned, but good nevertheless. It still looks like Snape, and the coloring is wonderful as well. You should definantly keep it up. Also, the left arm on the Snape resketch (the one hidden beside the cloak) looks a wee bit awkward. It shouldn't be showing at all, I think. It should either be showing a wee bit, or be hidden by Snape's chest/the flowing of his cloak.

.. unless I'm looking at it wrongly. o_O

Ha ha, I like that one. I like the old-school feel it has to it.
The only thing I notice that seems immediately off is that his legs are astoundingly short. Maybe his waist should be slightly higher up.
(Although I guess sometimes it can work....)

I think part of the problem here is that maybe his knees and feet aren't quite drawn correctly. I don't really know, it's hard to put my finger on.
But anyway, I like the style of it.

Oh youre probably right Tonchiki (about his knees).
His pose and everything was basically copied out of the A Link To The Past comic. (You know, the old Nintendo Power one?) So yeah his arms are like way longer than his legs. lol! Oops! good eye though! Ill keep that in mind when i do another cartoon style!
Yeah i found this one too, when i was going through my old Zelda drawings.
I think i drew her around the same time i did the Link.
