Re: My new portrait of Link and Zelda, took two days to paint
oil painting please
also I can see some anatomy mistakes mainly the size of Link's and Zelda's body also I recommend you to make some hand sketches (those hands don't really look like hands and they seem anatomically wrong, mainly for the fingers position) the MS blade seem kinda weird on the bottom of the painting, I think you should have made it more angled, or add some depth using different colors same goes for Zelda's hair, use some darker colors for depth or do the same you did with Link's hair, but more gently over all it looks great for a 2 days painting ;D

Re: My new portrait of Link and Zelda, took two days to paint
Well I know I couldn't sit and do a painting like that in 2 days. I just don't care for patiently painting.
Good... though inconsistant in some ways. I thought oil painting looks better when it's blended with more colors instead of just one pure saturation of green, but maybe it's just the camera quality or so. Still, interesting project. More shading maybe... |

Re: My new portrait of Link and Zelda, took two days to paint
I made some necessary corrections, and it's hard to do much more since I'm really low on paints. Still, now that I see that this painting is still racked with too many flaws that work to hinder it, I just took it off the wall and threw it into the corner of the garage in my storage area.

Once you get paints, you should have a sufficient motivation to fix it/start over and make something even better. Looking up different ways to utilize (it looks like acrylic, is it?) the medium can also help and get you more excited to start again. That's how I do it anyway. ...But don't give up! ![]()

Re: My new portrait of Link and Zelda, took two days to paint
Ah, the lovely oil paints.
First off- it's not bad. I'm not sure weather this is your first try or not, but if it is your first try with oil paints it's not bad. Of course, there are many things that you would need to improve from color theory to anatomy and over all composition. When I looked at the final product, I wouldn't help to think that it wasn't finished. So, it looks unfinished, even though you say it is. It just needs more work. I'm going to start with the colors. It looks boring, and it seems that you added black to your colors to make it darker. Adding black to your colors makes it darker right? yes, it does, but it's pretty boring if you ask me. If you want to give that green some life, add red. Red is opposite of the green in the color wheel, which makes them complementary colors. You can mix complementary colors together to darken either color. A color wheel will really help you: ![]() Complementary colors are your best friends when you want to shade, and also give some life to the colors. Though I wouldn't recommend using complementary colors for clothes ;P With anatomy, it's not bad at all. What I recommend is to draw from real life as much as possible. Get more familiar with the human body, and even ask some people if they can model for you. Getting to know the human body more will help you be more accurate when it comes to drawing the human body. I see that you used pencil to do your sketch. It isn't always the best to use pencil with oil paints because if you're say, using a yellow, the lead will smear and eventually mix together with your yellow, creating a really ugly yellow, and not the one you desired (I speak from experience, it wasn't good :p). I recommenced to replace the pencil with a orange pencil crayon, or if you're a more experienced painter and decide to work larger, you can use conte (but you won't be ale to do such little details with the conte) The background could definitely use some work. I understand some people have trouble doing backgrounds, but maybe try to look at other images with backgrounds that may suit what you have already. Don't give up! The more you practice the better you get. You'll only get better if you take your time, realize your mistakes, and fix them. I know, because I speak from experience. Hope this helps! ![]() -Felix

Hey, I don't know what people are complaining about. I think it's beautiful. You could use some practice and what-not, but nobody's perfect. I know I could never have painted that! Don't get mad at the first post: constructive criticism helps. Here's mine: Link's arms look short. however, I wish I knew you so I could get you to paint me stuff. The world needs more people who paint like you
