[Dump] Lio's Sporadic Art Thread.

UPDATE: So, I failed the challenge. :< Gonna use this thread to post random art at random times instead.

Alrigthy doodle, hello fellow artists and other people browsing this forum.

I'm currently being challenged by my oh so beloved boyfriend to present at least one piece of art every day. Well, technically, all he wants is that I set aside at least 30 minutes of my day to draw, so I won't slack off and actually make my damn portfolio so I can apply for a program I really want into. I'm quite forced to draw things, or my man will dance and sing and do all kinds of evil stuff to me whenever I try to go to sleep. Yay motivator.

tl;dr (lazy bum, you): I'm gonna post one piece of "art" every day. Hopefully. Or at least WIPs of things I'm working on.

It can be anything, in any style, for it is to practise my drawing I'm doing this.

Today was the first day of the challenge and I finished with this:



I call it a pikmin, although it doesn't look like one. Woot.

The little guy is adorable! But what is that thing next to him, a camera? A tin can?

It's going to be interesting to see if the quality can stay this high day after day. How long are you going to be doing this one art piece a day thing?

This is a great idea! Not only is it productive for you, but it's also fun for us to get to see a drawing each day. I've contemplated trying to do something like this (still not sure if I can).

It's supposed to be a tin can. :3 Wanted to put something next to him to give a sense of proportion. Now he lives in it.

I'm hoping quality will improve, actually. X3 It is for practise, after all. And I'll have to continue doing it until my boyfriend grows bored of tormenting me, I think. So... forever?

I've found that the best attitude for tackling something like this is "I draw whatever, who cares if it's crap". Mind you, I've only been going at it for a day, so what do I know.

Hm, so for today, I worked with the theme "Stranger in a Strange Land". I'm not sure I got it right, I think the strange land part might be somewhat on track, the stranger part... not quite. Ah well, it was fun to draw anywhoo, and a good practise of enviroment.



If anyone wanna help with suggesting ideas for me to draw, feel free to do so. :3

Draw a penguin. Or draw many penguins. Something penguin-related would be ideal.

And add something to spice it up. Like me, Bender.

I really love this one, the colours are so lovely. It reminds me of Skies of Arcadia a lot.

The background in that is wonderfully colored. The girl kneeling in the ship looks kind of odd though.

That actually reminds me a lot of the setting for one of my games I'm never going to finish.

Yeah, the girl was a rush-job, thrown in at the last minutes of work because the bottom of the drawing was a bit... empty. I'm not too fond of her, if I go back to this picture later, she'll just have to go. Thinking of making it into my wallpaper, I'll just have to remove her layers.

Thank you very much. :3 I tried a few other color schemes for the image, but that one really stuck with me. I'm glad people seem to like it too.

So, as I mentioned to Fishy, I chose "Penguins in Space" as the theme for today. Unfortunately, it was a bad day to draw, so I'll only post a WIP for today. I'll have to finish it when my brain comes back from its vacation.

The pikmin drawing is beautiful. I love the subtle colours in the background and the tin can. For the second one: wow. Really atmospheric. The little girl seems out of place to me so I think you have the "stranger" part down. Is that a domed building on the closer island?

EDIT: You've got a penguin-head-shaped helmet! What species of penguin did you use?

Are you planning to finish it?

That is pretty sweet. I can't wait to see the finish version, since everything looks pretty fine at this point.

Thank you, on all accounts. ;3 That domed swirly building on the island is a light house. I think. It could be a candy factory too, I guess. X3

As for the penguin, I used the gentoo penguin as a reference. Found some great pictures that really helped with anatomy and such.

Haha, glad you like it. I'll either keep working on it tomorrow, or return to it at a later date. Not letting it go, don't worry. :]

Yeah, I wanna see it finished too. I would do it today, but it feels like anything I do to the image at the moment only makes it worse. Yeah, I know I said I should just draw and not care about the end result, but I dun wanna harm the penguin. 'sides, I got something done today, and that's the important part.

Worked on the penguin today. It turned out nicely, I think... might still need some work though, but I feel an itch to move onto something new. If I have the time, I could always return to it later to touch it up a bit.

Did you do that by hand, or on the computer?

The penguin's head seems to blend in a bit with the dark background. Of course, this is likely my fault due to viewing a cheap LCD monitor at a slight angle, but still...Also, the flag of Antarctica is a brilliant touch, but its placement doesn't match the curvature of the rocket, you know what I mean? Another point: I'm not sure if that's supposed to be outer space in the background, but it would likely benefit from a few starts or planets to help the theme.

Overall, though, this piece has made my day, or my week, even. Thank you. <3

Hm, yeah, now that you mention it, his head is a bit dark. Can't do much about that part, it's just his appearance. Unless I lighten the background of course. That could work. ^^ I'll mess around a bit, see what I come up with.
As for the flag. Yah, I threw that in at a later point and then forgot about it as I reworked the rocket. It looked better before. XP I'll have to edit that one as well. Good thing it's a layer of its own.
I'll also take your comments about the background into consideration. I haven't quite decided where the little fella is, but adding some planets isn't such a bad idea. :3 Thank you, fishcake.
