Shrub's Garden
This is where I shall be dumping all my art work. From old art class projects to Zelda and fanfiction related original works. That meaning, drawings of original characters I created for my Zelda fanfiction. To draw these I often use "models" from the pictures of others. Such as DNAngel for Ren's picture and Chobits for Leita's. What I do is use graphing on the original picture and then I change somethings according to the character I'm trying to depict. Well, here's what I got so far.
![]() The body is basically Leita's structure, but I need to work on her face more. It's just not Leita completely yet. I'm still working on her facial design. ![]() This is more or less, Ren, though I messed up a little here and there. I'd like to get out a picture of his face so I can show it off in more detail than in this one. His arms also could use more detail than I gave in this one. I have the perfect model for him. I tend to use Garaa, from Naruto, for Ren's facial structure. Garaa also has some creepy expressions when he was younger that fit Ren perfectly too. I tend to prefer abstract drawing and I have no titles for these. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Shrub's Garden
I love some of the stuff you go here. The "Ren" one is really cool, i like where the two guys connect with the coat.
The one right below it is very interesting as well.

Re: Shrub's Garden
These are all very nice. I love the way the hair encircles the woman in the Leita picture...The simple, soft linework is very beautiful. I agree with the comment about the two male figures connecting in the Ren picture being pretty cool. The one critism that I have is that maybe you could have the seated figure sitting on the curve of the wing, rather than having him float. All of your school work seems to have a dark mood but they look very softly...its a really nice contrast.

Re: Shrub's Garden
Thanks a bunch everyone. It's great to get some comments and feedback, it keeps me going with the drawing. I figured Ren would be most everyone's favorite. And now here's a new character picture.
![]() The model I found for this one was bunch of printed out anime and manga pictures from my sister's old collection. I have no idea which one the model came from, but it was good for my idea of what my character Sheinron, the Drow Emperor, would look like. The only thing I really changed out of the structure was his ear to make him elvish. Tsk, you can see the graph marks in this one It always does that with the black colored pencil.

Re: Shrub's Garden
I really like your abstract pictures, they are all vivid and original.
Your manga pictures are good too, you are quite skilled with both anatomy and facial structure but, even though for practice it is a good idea to use models, may i suggest you trying to do original poses, faces and hairstyles? Especially if you are making your own original characters. Its just, when i first clicked on this thread, i really thought the first picture was a fan art of Chi, I did'nt realise it was'nt until i noticed that you called the picture you drew 'Leita', and explained what you were doing above. Being original helps you be more confident with your drawings and does'nt limit you to copying certain poses and styles. :3

Re: Shrub's Garden
The reason why I'm using graphs and other pictures for models is to build up and practice my skills and getting good results at the same time. I'm learning while I copy, graph, and adjust the pictures. Don't worry, I do plan to eventually do my own original poses. You see, I actually had to change a lot in Ren's picture from the DNAngel picture. His face and hair were done by hand and scratch, I checked some Gaara picture for reference of what I wanted for Ren's facial structure. I also had to do his arm and wing from scratch. I checked some dragon photos for reference too. I'm learning while doing all this. Graphing is helping me take baby steps into drawing on my own. This is my preferred way of learning how to draw. I'm just doing this until I have more confidence. I don't really mind the limitations at this point.
It's okay if people recognize where the poses and models come from. Like the Chobits Leita. I explained what I was doing for a reason.
