Re: Tonchiki's World of Doodletude and Artaphernalia

...what the art section? How did I end up here? Oh hai

Actually I look at stuff here from time to time but don't comment much :p. But I've been looking at your thread for a while now and thought I could also comment instead of being a lazy pants.

I really like your cartoon drawings and concepts, but can't really give much constructive critisism on it. You use nice facial expressions and stuff, and that's good because that's imo one of the things cartoon style lives from. So keep that up.
Something that might improve your skills and give you more possibilities to design characters wuld be trying out different body shapes some more. (another thing comic drawing lives from imo).
Try to draw a really fat guy, a really skinny person (although that might be hard to do since your persons often are skinny looking already because of your style), a really broad shouldered muscle man and a curvey woman.
Keep up the good work.

Yeah, this was in school, sketching from a live model (nude, but there's none in the sketches, I didn't get that far). These suck basically because I suck at drawing from life and I was rusty on top of that. But these are probably closer to being critique-able than the cartoon doodles. I also can't shake the cartooniness when I try to draw from life, and I hate it.

EDIT: ALSO I ****ING HATE CHARCOAL
HATE
HATE
HATE
I was suprised at these since earlier you stated having problems with shoulders and stuff.
I don't know why you don't like them (okay the upper left isn't that good really, but the rest is good), the anatomy was well captured and doesn't have any major flaws (yeah there are some minor things here and there but it doesn't slap your face and scream "LOOK AT ME I'M AN ANATOMICAL FLAW"). You also shouldn't be concerned about being unable to completly shed the cartoony feel. The angular lines give the sketch something special and that's good...unless you think that it's important to photorealisticly capture the person in front of you. Which would be ofcourse an impressive skill, but then you might as well just take a photo.

PS: I haven't bothered to listen to your tracks D: I have no clue about composing anyway
Maybe some other time.

Yeah, that's one of the problems with posting mostly doodles.

Yeah, like I said, I do have tons more characters and drawings than I show here... I just can't show them.
But a lot of my characters do seem to have the same body type. However, not all of my cartoons are drawn in this more stylized manner-- some are done in a more realistically-proportioned style (which I still need to work on because I suck at it).

I still do have problems with shoulders, especially when I'm not looking at someone to draw them from. Also, screw drawing photorealistically, that's boring. What I'm concerned with is getting better at life drawing in general because it's a completely necessary skill for drawing anything at all.

Don't worry about it, there's too much crap in this thread, I don't expect people to wade through it anyway.

Thanks for the comments.

PORN PORN PORN PORN

But yeah, great stuff, Poncho. I haven't checked out your gallery for awhile, as I accidentally hid the entire art forum from view.

You now how I feel about Crawdad. Please make a seriously finished full sized and dynamic image of him, as he's too badass not to get that. Hell, make a movie.

Also, do something with:

Because I LOVE that kid.

If I ever need to make a finished animation for a college project, he'll probably be it.

I just ad-libbed that entire drawing.
Although it was a concept doodle for something I might further.

You're a lot like me. We both have a ton of cool ideas but we rarely get very far with any of them. xD

(And also, for those drawings I said I was going to scan... well it turned out them my school doesn't have a scanner, only a copier. Lame.)

Your style is pretty original, and nicely done! I wish I could say more, but I am sure that everyone else has done a good job of that.

Keep up the good work!

Take photos! I dunno, even a crappy webcam could do.

But yeah, I have so much crap to do. I know for a fact I've bitten off more than I can chew-- most of the stuff I have "planned" I probably couldn't even accomplish in my lifetime (by myself).

I've said it a million times, the stuff here is probably some of my worst stuff (recently)-- all my better stuff is withheld until I deem desireable.

Re: Tonchiki's World of Doodletude and Artaphernalia

Baxter Blues and Roxanne Darrow, meant to be two characters of probably many named after musical genres. Because, you know, that hasn't been done a million times.
Baxter's obviously named after music via his last name, Blues, and Roxanne is due to her nickname, Rox. Rox's face is kinda weird because I initially drew it too big and had to erase it and do it smaller, thereby destroying any semblance of order it had. And don't ask me how Baxter can fit his huge hands into that tiny hoodie pocket.
Basically these two were just drawn off the top of my head, which is why they look so crappy and generic.

ZUCast News Intro
This is the music intro/loop used for the Zelda news section of this site's podcast (at least, I assume-- I haven't listened to it). I figure they wouldn't mind if I put this here.

Dude.

Their shoes are huge.

Like. Bigger than their entire torso.

I like 'em though, especially Baxter.

I like them, watch out for unintentional gender ambiguity though. Baxter looks like he's wearing a skirt and Rox could be a guy. (Although I am assuming the later part was more or less intentional tomboyishness)

Yeah, the problem with Baxter is just the stupid way I made the legs on his shorts overlap perfectly, and Rox didn't turn out quite the way I thought anyway, so yeah. Now that I look at it, I also feel like for whatever reason Rox turned out too much like Flannery from Pokemon.

Oh yeah, she kinda looks like that. Btw wouldn't it be nice if the associated kind of music showed in their character design? Or would that be too clichéd?

I was kinda trying to get that across in their demeanors (at least, with Blues being laid-back and such), but I don't really think there's any other way to do it. I mean, how exactly would you? Music isn't a visual thing, there's not really anything visually to do to them unless I just make them stereotypical of the kinds of people that play/listen to that music, which is lame and boring.

I'm not sure, obviouly you don't want to turn them into "scene kids"...it's late here. I'll think of something till tomorrow. :p

(Click thumbnail you dolts)

This was my crappy entry in the Halloween art contest here. It's my own rendition of Jack, King of Halloween, from Animal Crossing. God, that background sucks nuts. I'm terrible with Photoshop.

But I also have...

Jack's Theme
I've also got a theme song for Jack here. I didn't put it in the contest, of course, because that probably wouldn't have been allowed and they're two different formats, but eh. Gaaarbled compression, sorry. I'm running out of space on this drop.

Nice, simple background. How the horizon cuts off is kind of odd, but I'm liking the sun shining through the trees as well as the pose. =)
