ZU Artistic Photos Thread
Yup, sorry for the crappy title, couldn't think of anything better.
Anyway, just yesterday I was searching every corner of the forums to find a thread where people post beautiful photos they've taken. Since photography is such a common hobby, I couldn't believe nothing like this existed! Sure, we have the Scrapbook, but I thought we needed a thread where photos were considered and appreciated as art. We can also have a list of the Flickr accounts of ZU members. I will definitely post mine when I set it up properly, 'cause right now it's an incomplete mess of a collection. I also have to touch-up all the photos first. XD At the moment my camera is a really bad one that devours batteries, so I'm saving up for something better, but till then, bear with me. Since I don't have a lot of time in my hands right now, I'm only going to post a couple of pictures, and I'll add some more later. ![]() Taken in Central Park. ![]() Taken from the 88th floor of the Empire State Building. ![]() I'm pretty sure this is was taken where the 3rd and 57th Avenue meet in New York. ![]() Igoumenitsa, Greece ![]() Elassona, Greece

Re: ZU Artistic Photos Thread
I don't think most of the photos in this thread are particularly artistic... they're mostly plain landscape shots. The only really good one I think is Pani's of the Casino here in Brisbane. Mostly because of the lighting and the exposure on everything moving, with the lone person standing stationary.
Almost everything else seems like nothing more than a snap shot with a point-and-shoot camera. There's no feeling, nothing. Also, some of the colours in your photos, Sotiris, are too saturated. I'm not sure if it's your camera, or post-photoshopping, but it doesn't really add to the image much, rather it feels unnatural. If you're serious about photography I suggest buying a film SLR and starting to learn manual controls. |

Re: ZU Artistic Photos Thread
The photos above aren't too bad, but almost all of them are up close macro shots... the lighting still needs a bit of work.
Sotiris, just a suggestion, but post-processing should be natural and not so obvious. The colour saturation makes the photos feel more detached and unreal. |

For example: ![]() Also, the lighting. I'm not too sure how to change that. Like I said, I'm an amateur, I really don't know how to use much of my camera's capabilities. I do keep it on macro though, I'm not sure what its used for, but the quality of photos seems to be better when I use it. Could you please tell me some more on how to make them better? |

Re: ZU Artistic Photos Thread
Macro is for close up shots. When you bring the camera really close to something and want to focus particularly on that. The common effect is like your photos were one object in the foreground is in focus and the rest of the background is out of focus. It can be used pretty well for portraits and stuff but I find it's a bit overused.
What kind of camera are you using? |
