Retro Link?

First of, I want you all to note I did not draw this.
I found this picture, as i was roaming old school pictures of Link.
I couldn't find out who actually did this picture, but I would like you guys to see it! I think it captures it all...

ULTRA UPDATE!

The artist's name is Aaron Poe!
That's all I know!

EDIT: if anyone DOES know who drew this, please let me know!

I liked it SO much, that I decided to go and color it myself!

Fire away about the coloring, took me a few approaches to color it.
Apparently I color better than I draw =/,

Who ever did the picture on the top draws good, I think.
Anyway, nice coloring of the picture super-fergus! Did you do it in photoshop, or did you print it out, and then color it?

That colouring... awesome. What more can I say? You made everything fit perfectly, the texture of the shields look very realistic, for one...

EDIT: xD should have taken the time to check all the comment. Photoshop it is.

wOAh! =O

TEACH ME HOW TO COLOUR SO! ;__________;

I espECIally love the way you rendered the shield and the trousers - it;s like .. they have so much .. tEXTure to them and you manage to show weatherness and age of them fantastically - HOW DO YOU DO IT!?!

Are the colour layers on "colour burn" mode or multiply?
fantastic stuff

And the original artist must be TRACKED DOWN AND FORCED TO BE STARED AT REVERENTLY! xD

Yes! Most of it was the magic of 'Colour Burn'
Unfortunately I haven't quite grasped the technique of layering,
so this is actually all just one layer.

It's all just being weary of colors for a realistic look.
Link isn't going to have a neon green tunic in real life, so I gave him something that is still green, but believable as a piece of clothing. Like wise with the under clothes , I gave it that coffee stain color to make it look believable.
Just keep to that thought, and you can't go wrong! Try making tones darker or lighter with de-saturation in mind of original game colors.

As for the weathering, most of that was just a bit of the trick of color burning. color burning basically pronouces anything dark and makes it darker, leaving lighters light giving the contrast.

Unless you mean the color again, it's back to de-saturation. For example, you're never going to see a life like Link carry a shield with a crazy bright red cross on it. Do we loose it? No, just work around it to make it look believable!

I think I've giving myself too much credit on this, hahahaha.

My good sir, you mUST stick around and stick with colouring - I'd love to see what happens when you DO grasp layers =O
*digs self a trench to be able to watch safely for then* :3

Also - aye, the colour choices are also something I ALWAys have trouble with >__<
but yes, you're right!
desaturated colours always! =O
*makes quick wee notes*

Many thanks! ^_____^

Tell me!
Where can I learn about masks and layers?!
I saw several people tell me about how they achieve theirs,
and their work seemed flawless!

THIS IS ALSO A HINT TO ANYONE THAT WISHES ME TO COLOR FOR THEM, AND I SHALL DO IT!

Ahem...yeah.

Hey!

it just ocCURed to me ..

How about, every week or two, we have someone from the art forum here make a wee step-by-step tutorial about something?
The first can be about colouring! ^____^

Would have to see if some of our fantastic colourists here are prepared to make one *looks over at Hitokiri and smiles sweetly* :3

But if no, we can look for colouring tutorials online and direct each other to them! ^___^

*uses layers herself but doesnt think she's at the level where she can give tutorials on it*

simply amazing, I dig the classic Link with brown hair and and Cross shield, I beleave that if the origninal LoZ was ever remade, it would look close to that.

UPDATE!
I'm a step closer to finding out who this artist is.
All I know is that the art was ripped from a site called. 4colorrebellion

Maybe you guys can help me track this fella down!.. ( or Lass! )

Hmm... I wouldn't mind giving tutorials, but I don't think I'm equipped to do one, eh?
I don't even know layers! ARGH!

I like this idea, but to avoid people who aren't actually that good, There should be a vote in on who should give a tutorial.

Well, I had already noticed that he had clothing under his tunic with the arm sleeves,
plus he shoulder sleeves too. So I figured, it would make more sense just to give him the ol'white. Plus brown against brown wouldn't show up too nice.

AND Theoretically, white/cream clothes would of been more common , periodical speaking.

If anybody needs a GIMP tutorial on that, I'm your man. I've known how to add layers and whatnot for the longest of time. Really easy to learn. The same basic idea can go for photoshop I believe, as well.

fabulous work on the colouring job ^_^

It's good because its just a tad grainy but its adds an interesting texture to the overall image - and I can so picture that in a movie with the film grain effect and a wobbly camera happening.

What I really love is how the cieling has been blacked out and then the colour just kinda seeps into it and down, making a really lovely contrast ^_^
