Hyrule castle

Okay, so I got thinking, and if you remember my previous 'Hyrule Castle' drawing I'd done,...well I never was satisfied with the design, just seemed a bit too convienent.

But now... I finally got something I liked!
I like it so much , I bashed up different moods to them...

Day

Night

Corrupt!

Ooh, nice! I especially like the corrupt night one. The lighting from the lava is such an amazing effect that you achieved quite well. Maybe it's just because I'm a huge fan of red and black, but I like that one much more. The Day version is good as well, but I don't think it has nearly the same amount of drama the second version holds. I look forward to seeing more landscapes like this from you.

Anyways thanks you guys!

A night-time version was meant to go in the middle..but I don't think
It wanted me doing that....

Of course you like the lava one... us humans are naturally attracted to bright and colorful objects.

Well, what can I say? I'm in awe. I love how you can draw 'loosely' not really putting in all the tiny details but they all seem to be hinted at and just make it a great image to look at.

As most people have said, I also really like the Corrupt picture. It jus seems to have more depth in it than that Day one. It has more drama, more feeling in it. That lava looking flow is dazzling.

Perhaps what is lacking in the day time one is more contrast? Something to make it look warmer and bright and happy. I'm not sure what though ^^;

I agree!
The day one can be a bit, bland.
When I was creating the lava one, i was using that day one, and started to color burn it red, the red actually gave it a better look, but i just seemed to leave it. I'm a bit scared to touch it to contrast it though, because I can get carried away, and make it worse that it is =/

I guess my disclaimer is that as long as it captures what I'm trying to achieve, I'm not to worried about detail. I've always tried to mimic some spectacular concept art which uses simple strokes, yet creates something with the asumtion of what it is. Eg. Ryan Church...got a while to go before I get that far though, heh.

But thanks very much for your praise and comments!
EVERYONE's gotta love lava stuffs!

Thanks for all your comments, I really am grateful =]

I'm trying to create the definitive 'Hyrule Castle', that looks like it could fit into any Zelda game... but it's hard getting that 'adventure' look and still being grand, but not in a way that looks too much like Lord of the Rings.

It must have a bridge! It must have water! it must have the tallest tower in the kingdom! What else....

If you wanted to make it less bland, make another copy of the file to play around with. I'm assuming you work in layers and that the green stuff growing on the mountains is seperate from the mountain itself.

In that case, maybe you should try shading in more richer earthy tones to the mountains. The reason the lava one works so well is you have clear shadows and highlights in contrast with each other. Adding deeper shadows might help make it look more dramatic.
