Story Help

I'm drawing a comic called I Shall Be. I really need help on my plot. Here's what I've got so far.

"I can never forget...what she said to me..." says main charecter, Ashley. She is reflecting on what has previously happened in her life. Her parents have gotten a divorce, and shortly after her dad dies in a car accident. Her mother exclaims, "This is all your fault. We divorced...because of you. He died...because of you. I hate you. You ruined my life...your friend's life...everyone you know...go away. Now!" So she ends up in her room with the door locked...staring out the window crying. Watching the rain clouds roll in.

Hmm...as you can see, I need help. I need a good reason for her to be the cause of everything. I would really appreciate your help. Constructive criticism please.

Anybody? Anyone have any ideas?

I think you should get into -why- the mother hates Ashley. It seems unlikely that a mother would hate her child, so you need to explain the reasoning.

That's the thing, I need a good reason for the mother to hate her. Or at least be mad enough to say that...

Well, you could say that the mother is verbally implulsive and just took it out on her, the anguish from her divorce and his sudden death sort of overloaded in her brain?

well, you could say that its ashlies foult the car crashed. Like she asked here dad to come to here dance residal (something like that, I dont know what here interests are) and he crashed on the way. And if Ashlies mom suffers from depression, or somthing like that it would be an excuse for here to hate here daughter. but I still don't think that any mother should truly hate hate there son or daughter, its just wrong to hate your family.

Agreed. Maybe the mother being clinically depressed would help.

lol! well i guess so! why not. although that might mess with the storyline. what if ashley wasn't just angry about what here mom said. what if she has been rejected by a friend, or her best friend moves away or something. I think here mom shouldn't be the only reason for here sadness and anger.

But it's her mother that's yelling at her, so I don't think that's work. ^^;

then maybe here mom is under a lot of pressur and/or stress. She could have lost here job, or her pet died. something like that, Im just brainstorming here.
