I'll put some other stuff up soon. I'm trying to think of some sort of drawing I can do that will help me work on some artistic problems of mine...any suggestions would be lovely. I started out drawing realistic, but I grew to like slightly animeified stuff...realime one could call it.

I can't really critisize your work since it's good and I'm terrible at art so I'm just gonna say what i think. I love your "Sin" drawing, it looks really cool. Also i like......Sams hair, lol XD

I still have to say that I do love that pic of Mesfido that you for me... Nothing wrong to point out with that. I have always wondered how you manage to keep your drawings so clean looking and sharp. I find I can never achieve that, probably because I love soft dark pencils show much.

I love that phoenix too, the one thing I would say is that the position seems to lack much movement for a phonenix rising from its ashes. It also seems like you spent a far bit of time working on the bird itself but when it came to the ashes you just wanted to finish it. Correct me if I'm horribly mistake...

Now the drawing of Sam...

The general shape and porportions is good enough but the blank facial expression and the lack of any intensity in the eyes kills it, for me (I believe eyes always make a picture be it drawing or painting.). The shape of the nose is also off. In my opinion, the buttons on the shirt and the ribbon of the cloak seem slightly out of place with the rest of the style.. Other than all that not too bad but I still prefer your anime style.

Oh, one thing, all that critism was what I found when I went looking for stuff to critic. I'm just trying to help you improve... even though your already much better than me...

I believe I may have add a piece in inspiring you to make this thread, am I right? Has the realism of my better work sparked inspiration in your mind?

All that said I still adore the style of your anime stuff... tis brilliant...

Yes, you had some sort of influence in me creating an art thread ... although I've been meaning to do this for a while.

And as for your comment on keeping stuff very clean, it just takes patience...alot of going over and shading very carefully. I use mechanical pencils.


The phoenix picture certainly doesn't compliment any skill in positions and angles that I may have. Yes, the ashes were very rushed, it's quite obvious. XD I was more or less just drawing the picture for the enjoyment, it was relaxing to color lol. (Cept for the ashes. X_X)

I showed the Sam picture because it's a good peice to get input from, due to the lack of certain things. I agree with what you said about the face, and also I may add I don't like the way I shaded the whole thing ... it's too weak looking. I may go over it, and edit it now that I have a better grasp on light. But yes, the eyes are a very big part in a face ... I think the mouth was my problem though. I don't draw real people portraits like this often, and I need to.

Here's a realistic horse I drew a while back as well, I'm going to go over it in mechanical pencil again, it's a little bland.

I really do love that horse. I love the fact that you have used simple lines to create such great shading. Unlike Sam the horse's eye do seem to show some form of emotion which is a great bonus. The one critic I do have though is that the left ear seems slightly out of place.

I can't say that I'm a big fan of using mechanical pencils. I find that they feel too restricting, I prefer to have the freedom of 4 or 6B pencil. Yes, I'm slipping in my old ones, I feel it appropriate to really analyze them as much as I can before I start new ones. (that's been my problem lately ... I jump around and draw things that I never finish)

I can see why you would want to use a bigger pencil...but I feel just as free with a mechanical. I also am able to get more tiny details in with the thinner point. Just depends what style your going for. I find myself roatating the paper alot when I draw, not sure if that's good or bad...or something.


I touched up the horse picture, added some finer lines and highlights. I actually like the old one better...maybe it's because the scanner did the lighting weird. Meh.

Great art (obviously). I have to thank you becaue its that drawing of Link swatting Tatl that made me think of doing my funny Zelda pics. Forgot to say that back when you posted it the last time.

DQ, your work is absolutely astounding! I just love your art style! If you need some more ideas more artwork, I have some. That is, if you want.

Ok, now that some other people have posted I have returned with all the critisism I can bring myself to make on such brilliant art work.

First off I think that the bigger version of the horse is actually of the original not the revamped drawing, you might want to fix that.

Ok now I have to say that I believe that going over of shading and what not on the horse turned out rather effective giving it more depth and making it jump off the page more. I'll tell you what has taken away from it though... The darking of the neck outline. The simple darking of one line has made the entire neck look out of place and flat thus taking away from the picture.

I don't know if you didn't on purpose but you actually added a slight note of your anime style into the horse, in the hair mainly.

Even though I am constantly pointing out the stuff that is wrong in your work, I ,by no means, dislike it or think it is bad. As you know I love your work. Just thought I should clear that up. I hope that my comments are of help!

No no ... please, I like these pointers you give me! Most people these days don't really post critizisms...because they think the artist will go spaztastic on them or something.

Ah, I see what you mean on the neck outline. I realize now that it looks akward, also because there is not much shading around it. If I darken the line, I should shade it like I did the rest of the picture. Good eye!

Anime style hair? Um, I just went over the hair a bit...made it more clean, it's just my way of doing hair. Although the shading is lacking a light source... And I wanted the eyes to stick out just a little bit more, but I think I may of made them too dark.

you may also want to fix the right eye, (veiwer POV), it may be anatomically correct, but the diamond shape of the eye is too different from the other eye, which makes the face seem lopsided. And the nose could use loads more work.

Thats really really really good stuff. The shading and everything is pretty much right on target and you're coloring is really good., you've got it down. Its better than I can draw too ><
