Some of my army drawings.

I have friends from VGDC forums who I drew. They're cool drawings of even cooler people. One is The Guru who is the leader of the MS Paint Clan which I'm a big part of. Another is Kid Corruption, a really funny, n00b bashing smart ass. He cracks me up. And last but not least, Zonic. He's an awesome spriter and a good friend of mine. He's the coolest. These are the guys know in reality.

But in their pcitures I drew of them, they're tough. I even drew the Deanster.

Guru's is a bit large:

But the others are fair:

Notice all of my pictures lean to the right a bit especially Zonic's. I don't know why but my hand drawn pictures turn out like this. Weird.

Rate and comment. I'm prepared for criticism.

Re: Some of my army drawings.

These are good, but it seems to me that there are some elements of your anatomy that still need work. For example, the tendon in the neck is heading in the wrong direction - it should stretch roughly from the base of the ear to the dip in the collarbone. The legs also look stiff, and (particularly in the second and third pictures) the feet pointing directly at the 'camera' don't seem to be drawn at the right angle.

The poses in general look stiff, and the tendency to lean (which you pointed out) may also be resulting from a pose issue. The human spine curves like an S, and by including that curve in the torso, you can get a very natural pose - this also helps with other anatomical placements such as hips, shoulders, neck and arms.

There may also be some proportion issues in the arms. The elbow should sit around the waist (yours are kind of just at the end of the ribs), and the hand should fall about halfway down the thigh.

I want to say that I like what you've done with clothing folds in terms of the rendering on the flat surfaces, this looks really good in the first one. However, in the edges of clothing, mostly in the pants, your folds seem kind of random. For this, I suggest drawing fabric from life or from photos, so that you can get a good sense of the way the body pulls fabric and how it falls - this will lead to very realistic clothing folds.

Finally, the foreshortening on the the outward arm, and the construction of the hand, is strange in the final picture - it almost looks as though his little finger is bigger than his index or middle finger.

However, I don't want you to think that I don't like these - I'm just in the habbit of critiqing pictures. These are pretty good, and I like some of the elements of the designs, like the hair in the third one. I suggest you work on your anatomy, from photos and from anatomy books, really focusing on proportions, placements, and muscular and skeletal structures. Keep it up, and keep practicing!

Thanks a lot for critiquing it. You gave me some good tips that I'll be sure to use. Most go 10/10! WOOO!!! but you have something to say. Thanks.

Re: Some of my army drawings.

Sorry for the double post but I added another one. I was sure to follow your advice Mikshe. Thanks.

Re: Some of my army drawings.

Your shading is top notch. Do you use those special shading pencils? I like the character designs too.

Yeah. I really must compliment you on your shading job. It truly is vastly superior to most shading I have seen.

The drawings in general look great.

Your shading is magnificent. That was the first thing I noticed. It's probably your strong point. I like the intricacy in the weapons. I can't give you any advice other than follow Mikshe's advice...... Because it's all good advice. Hahahah! Keep up the awesome shading.

Re: Some of my army drawings.

Lol. I'm glad you like my shading. I have practiced shading a lot and I have great art teachers, not to mention, my parents are artists.

I added another. That's my friend, SoGGy. He's from Chile. And yet, he's a fire guy. Not only is his name ironic, but place he lives is too.

I have an interesting story. I live in the good old USA, SoGGy, as I said lives in Chile. On my birthday, he told his mom it was his friend's birthday. He went to school and when he came back, his mom had baked me a cake. SoGGy ate the cake and didn't even e-mail me some. The bastard.

Re: Some of my army drawings.

That most recent one is a huge improvement on the others in terms of pose, naturalness of stance, lack of stiffness and so on - well done on that.

I'm not entirely sure about the right (his left) leg, though - is it bent at the knee? It doesn't really look like it is, but if it isn't then that might be a bit of an awkward way to stand.

However, that's really just nitpicking. Good work! A big mprovement.

Thanks. Your tips helped.

And about Dean Talon, my arms are the right length. It just looks weird because my shirt is pulled way down.

Re: Some of my army drawings.

I'm not sure about that. If that's the case then I think the torso to leg proportions may be off, and the elbow does appear to be sitting kind of high - but it's a good picture, regardless.

Re: Some of my army drawings.

Thanks, anyway, Mikshe. Sometimes, I want to redo these. I make rough drafts and then final drafts. My dad, who is an artist as well and my my mom who also is an artist, make three drafts. I ought to try doing that to make everything more crisp.
