Project: Given Gaiden

I've been planning on making this thread for a long time and I finally have gotten a chance to start it.

Many of you might not know it, but I love drawing. It has been one of my favorite things to do for many years. I love many types of styles and my favorite would have to be the simple, "chibi" style. But you didn't come here to read my art history so here it goes.

This is a concept drawing of the four main characters in my most recent comic project, Given Gaiden. I'm still in the planning stages of the story so there isn't much to say about them. I can say that the character with the long ears is the main character, Tae.

If I get a good number of responses, I will continue posting this project. Hope you enjoy.

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

OH!! Not many people draw chibi! I love to draw both ways, but not many other people do! I love chibi! I like them except the pants look like something MC Hammer would wear.... Sorry, it just looked that way to me. My favorite is Angel because she looks like an actual chibi character that you would see in a manga. The others aren't as chibi as they could be. I still like it a lot! Also it's harder to do chibi than some people think so I respect anyone who draws like that!

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

Decided to add this last one for now. It features the character, Tae holding his two "Arros" as he calls them. The girl on the bottom is 12 year old, Destana.

EDIT: IluvZelda, thanks for the comment. The baggy pants have been a part of my style for a long time now. They are actually holding me back abit. I use them to hide the fact that I cannot draw legs properly.

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

New picture everyone.

I'm really starting to like the character Destana. She may even take over as the main character of Given Gaiden. That, or I may start something new just for her.

Please give me some comments and critism. Here is my own personal critism:
The eyes are always alined correctly.
I still am horrible at drawly legs.
Body alinement isn't where I want it to be.

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

I'm working on getting some new art up by the end of the week. I've been drawing alot this month, so you might be impressed. Right now, I'm working on alot of characters, trying to get them as good as possible.

Will update soon.

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

The stuff is great, that's some of the best chibi-artwork I've seen drawn by a non-professional.

Are you planning to draw like a comic of it?

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

Woah, I just got a reply! *heart attack*

^ Yeah, I'm planning to do something like that, but I'm still in the planning stages and I also need more supplies (paper, sharpner, pencils). I'm going all out on this one.

^ Heh, I figured. I'm also planning on trying something similar by the start of the summer if I manage to learn how to draw better in the next couple months.

Hey, we'll just overload this place with awesome image-based stories

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

Very nice, once again.

Heh, see you give me hope for my own plans. I've been having trouble drawing hands (as well as everything, but you get the point), but when I look at yours, they're simple, and they look good.

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

I actually think hands are my weak point. Something about them just don't seem right. Maybe I'm being too hard on myself.

Expect more art soon.

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

Now, I have a question for you as I sit here and dabble with some designs.

When you draw your things, do you really take your time and try to get everything precise? Or do you just sketch away and edit in the details briefly afterwards? Because when I try going slow, I find that I take such a long time that I slip up, and I just can't keep my hand steady. Then, when I just wing it, it comes out like a mess.

Oh, and another thing. Is there any way to correct the inability to draw things symmetrical...?

I'll try to help you, but I've only gradually learned to draw on my own, so I don't know any of the fancy art terms people use.

To answer your first question, I can go back and forth between drawing slowly and rushing through sometimes. I tend to get a better picture when I plan it in my head before drawing. I suggest planning the picture in your head before drawing it for the best results.

For your second question, I guess it just takes time to learn. I still haven't mastered symmetry yet.

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

Geez, Linkprry. As many have said, the facial expressions are phenominal. The entire drawings are well done and seem different than a lot of art I've seen. And the fact that they are entirely your creation and done fully freehanded only adds to the impressive nature of these drawings.

I can draw, but not create. You have created.

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

i do actually like this style, as i have not really seen it before, or i may have but i just don't recognize the kinda parachute pants XD and i know it seems annoying when noobs try to suggest idea's as if they are pro's but if i may, i would suggest maybe not using the parachute pants for every character (unless that is the chibi style) but i would be glad too give you some sketch idea's for substitute pants if you would like.

Those "parachute pants" have sorta become part of my style. It started out because I just CANNOT draw legs, but now it's just become part of my style.

Re: Project: Given Gaiden

here is a suggestion of what maybe future pants for your Chibi characters could look like, and keep in my this is my first attempt at it and it was only a quick sketch, and i also have a feeling it will be deleted because i'm posting artwork in your thread.....

I tried it, but it just doesn't seem to work with my characters. I don't know but I just like the way the pants are now. Maybe I'll try regular pants sometime in the future.
