After so long this thread has arrived. I have been thinking about making it since a while, but today I just decided to do it anyway, because Rhian/Tabby made me sing a Prussian song and I had so much fun with it - and it can be heard - that listening to it makes me chuckle wildly. And I don't want it to get lost in time. I want to chuckle tomorrow too.
As many of you know already, I sing - not professionally, but I have learnt how to sing from music teachers and in choir, and my entire family is made of musicians, so I sort of have a general grasp of it. I will share these random short singy-songies I record for personal/among friends use - keep in mind that most of them are not serious at all!* I sometimes chuckle in them or say random silly things - and put them here for all of you to listen to. Oh and they're often in random languages. Oops. :'>
*I pretty much hate to record my professional singing, as every crescendo sounds lame because of my crappy mic, lol. Upon request, in case someone really wants to hear what I can do when I'm actually doing my best, I might do it, but I doubt this thread would get such a high popularity. xD
I record these things with vocaroo, which might be not the best quality, but it's quick and efficient, and for these simple "sketches", it's perfect.
So the purpose of this thread is mostly entertainment, do not expect serious art here! But I hope you'll enjoy.
OR JUST LAUGH. THAT WORKS TOO.
At the same time, criticism and whatnot will be welcome too, if you feel like it. c:
One of the best known German military marches! All hail Prussia. (Surprisingly, it's in German. And yeah, no, I didn't pay attention to pronunciation at all, so it's a bit raw. :'>)
I don't even know what this song is from; Harrie linked me to a wonderfully made fan version that made me fall in love with it.
Spoiler: Lyrics
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where they strung up a man they say murdered three?
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it seem
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where the dead man called out for his love to flee?
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it seem
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free?
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it seem
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
Wear a necklace of rope, side by side with me...
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it seem
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.
This is a beautiful Norwegian song I sang for Lars. (And for Norway!) I probably horribly failed at the pronunciation for which I apologise; interestinly, I found Swedish pronunciation easier! It was a great thing to sing anyway. I love the song so much. :>>
OH LOL ADDITIONAL NESITALK OOPS.
Spoiler: Lyrics typed and translated by Moriquendi, TAKK <33
Millom Bakkar og Berg ut med Havet
heve Nordmannen fenget sin Heim,
der han sjølv heve Tufterna gravet
og sett sjølv sine Hus uppaa deim.
Inbetween hills(1) and mountains out by the sea
has the Norwegian found(2) his home,
where he himself have the toft(3) dug
and himself placed his houses upon them.
Han saag ut paa dei steinutte Strender;
det var ingen, som der hadde bygt.
«Lat oss rydja og byggja oss Grender,
og so eiga me Rudningen trygt.»
He looked out on the stony shores;
there was no one, who there had built.
"Let us tidy (4) and build our hamlets(5),
and so we own the clearing safely."
Han saag ut paa det baarutte Havet;
der var ruskutt aa leggja ut paa;
men der leikade Fisk ned i Kavet,
og den Leiken den vilde han sjaa.
He looked out on the wave-filled(6) ocean;
it was stormy(7) to go out to sea(8);
but there played fish down in the heavy spray(9),
and that play he wanted to see.
Fram paa Vetteren stundom han tenkte:
Giv eg var i eit varmare Land!
Men naar Vaarsol i Bakkarne blenkte,
fekk han Hug til si heimlege Strand.
Out in the winter sometimes he thought:
If I were in a warmer country!
But when spring sun in the hills shone(10),
got he love to his homely beach.
Og naar Liderna grønka som Hagar,
naar det laver av Blomar paa Straa,
og naar Næter er ljosa som Dagar,
kann han ingenstad vænare sjaa.
And when mountain sides becomes green(11) as gardens,
when it flows(12) of flowers on straw,
and when nights are light as days,
can he no place more beautiful see.
(1)
Bakkar. Hills or slopes.
(2)
Fenge. I've translated it to found, since it fit better, but it actually means something more like "received". Something he has a strong claim for.
(3)
Tuft. Toft. The prepared ground a house stands on.
(4)
Rydja. Tidy, clear. Chop down trees, remove rocks and such. For the placing of a farm in this case.
(5)
Grender. Hamlets. A small settlement of farms.
(6)
Bårute. Wave-filled. Stormful. Large waves at sea.
(7)
Ruskutt. Stormy. It's "ruskete" in present Norwegian. It comes from where I grew up, actually. It's a bit hard to describe, but: a day with strong winds and a lot of rain. It's raining horisontally and it's cold. That is "ruskevær" (ruskete weather). It's not necessarily very negative, though. It doesn't stop us from hiking xD
(8)
Leggja ut på. To go out to sea. Actually: to put a boat out to sea.
(9)
Kavet. Heavy spray. Troubled. Chaotic water.
(10)
Blenkte. Shone. Actually "glittered".
(11)
Grønka. Becomes green. It's an old verb meaning that it becomes greener. Like a field becoming green in spring.
(12)
Laver. I used, "flows", but it's a word usually connected with snow. Snowing heavily. It's something appearing in abundance. Overflowing, almost.
Enjoy~
I don't even know why I have this thread, but it's cool. :'>

Gotta admit, I was nervous when I saw you posted! I react weirdly to posts in my threads. xD
;~; <33 Thank you! :> YOU CAN SUGGEST ME SONGS, because I never know what to sing and I just randomly choose them anyway. I don't guarantee I'll actually do it, but I'll heavily consider. :3
[16:40:24 CEST] Virgin Jarmo: you rolled the R
[16:40:30 CEST] Virgin Jarmo: I will love you forever now
[16:40:32 CEST] Nesi:
[16:40:42 CEST] Virgin Jarmo: your finnish is good
You'll realise that it was a bit too high for my voice, because harr, it was meant for a man to sing and his voice scale. And I'm an Alto. But I deal with high stuff anyway. Just not professionally. xD
You'll also realise that this is... not the first recording and I couldn't find one position in which the music and my voice are equally loud. So I was all "screw this" in the end. :'>
So graceful and pure, a smile bathed in light
No matter the distance, a miracle of sight
Though I should have known, I could not turn away
When faced with your beauty no reason can stay
As you kiss him in the moonlight
With heavy words I say
If you love someone, follow your heart
‘Cause love comes once if you’re lucky enough
Though I’ll miss you forever, the hurt will run deep
Only love can set you free
Trivia: my dog thought this song was about/dedicated to her, because she kept trying to have sex with my leg. She's my number one fan!!
CANADIAN ANTHEM
This is a "let's sing it quickly for my thread" thing, Great White North sang it today on Skype and I thought I'd too, because I'm so unoriginal. Vocaroo | Voice message
I LOVE MY TONGUE
"true norsssthssstrong" <- decides to dance a bit on its own without my permission at this part
[no need for lyrics, everybody knows the Canadian anthem]
