Re: Jehanne's Drawing Thread

Oh, I see.

Hmmm~ well, I also found it very challenging to make her look like she had rosy cheeks and wasn't just wearing makeup. I'm not sure how Fantin-Latour does it; I made blotchy red areas, but it wasn't the same as what he was able to achieve.

I think it would have been easier for me to draw and paint an adult, to be honest. This was a little tricky since my default is the adult-proportioned head.

Re: Jehanne's Drawing Thread

She looked... what, 15? 16? At least 13.

It didn't look bad with the red, just overstated. I think the other picture showed it off well, though.

Re: Jehanne's Drawing Thread

I think she still looks 3 or 4 years older in my painting than the original. But I'm not sure I have any more patience to work on it. In the end, I am pleased that it looks like a person.

:]

In a couple weeks we'll be working on painting from a live model (no taxidermy chicken this time). So that should be very interesting.

Re: Jehanne's Drawing Thread

This morning I moved the furniture around in my bedroom so that my drawing table is near the mirror. So I doodled this while standing in front of the mirror and listening to Britney.

Re: Jehanne's Drawing Thread

I've been doing homework this morning; I'm a little irritated because I'd rather be drawing what I want to draw.

=_=

Only the arm drawing on top is done. I'm still working on the other two.

Re: Jehanne's Drawing Thread

In my school we never drew the musculature... I think I should try that.

We did bones but not muscles.

You drew them really nicely

Thanks!
I've just got a little bit more, thank goodness. When I do this stuff on my own, I make small-scale drawings in my sketchbook. But it's annoying to do it on the giant drawing paper and it takes so much longer.

Ah, yeah; you can put a piece of tracing paper over the bones you draw, and then draw the muscles on top.

Those are lovely gesture drawings there Jinny!
(I love gesture drawings *___*)
The crocodile especially came out lovely...the line weight and movement and everything. Simply lovely.

That's an alligator, not a crocodile.

It makes me so happy that you can tell what they are. These were the most easily identifiable out of the bunch. I draw really slow, so any sort of time crunch (like the baby monkeys -- not shown -- would not hold still for more than 1 or 2 seconds) forces me to scribble. But "gesture drawing" is a nice term for it.

I'll check their website to see which it was. I might have drawn it incorrectly.

Re: Jehanne's Drawing Thread

Oh, well it's an actual art exercise haha
you just try to capture the essence of the movement as best you can with little gestures, doing it a lot can reeeeally speed up your drawing speed.
(It's a super great warm up, especially if you're doing a more extensive drawing after)

They make us do gesture drawings sometimes in the figure drawing class, but 90% of my drawings come out looking like crap (trashcan worthy). If all we're doing is trying to capture the pose, I could probably do it with just a stick figure. But we try to put everything else on there to practice with the anatomy; like I said, they usually just look terrible. Especially since I sometimes get an extremely foreshortened perspective. =_= I guess it's all good practice. But it's also annoying to look at the page and want to burn it.

Jinny, I have to ask: what the hell is the last one? 'Cause I'm seeing a cross between an African buffalo and a porpoise.

Re: Jehanne's Drawing Thread

I kept trying to draw the lion, but people would see me doing something and try to come and peek over my shoulder. In the end, I had 2 drawings that were supposed to be lions, but lacked the defining characteristics (the mane, jaws, and paws should have been given more weight).

---------- Post added at 12:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:53 PM ----------

I want to know how you see a porpoise, though.

Oh, I see; so like the bottom part of porpoise with a buffalo torso/head?
